The…read morestore is staffed by friendly volunteers and purchases from the store go to supporting the Friends of Rookery Bay and their mission to provide resources for Rookery Bay Research Reserve's education, research, and conservation programs. At Palmetto Patch Nature Store you'll find carefully curated items for the whole family. They had t-shirts, hats, bags, accessories, tumblers, toys, books, sunglasses, mugs, figurines, postcards, glass art, and prints by local artists. I especially loved the nature themed earrings made from cereal box paper board from Jabebo Studio. They also had magic t-shirts that were black and white but when exposed to the sun turned into color. They had a number of interesting Florida themed books on the topics of history and nature including what just might be Florida's favorite book, A Land Remembered which covers 114 years of Florida history. Most importantly they sell sunscreen, bug repellent, and water if you plan on hiking any of the trails at the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center. Water was only $1 so make sure you stay hydrated. Items from the store can be shipped free to your home by emailing naturestore@rookerybay.org, Volunteers of Rookery Bay get 10 percent off purchases.

Not to mention a big variety of toys and books for kids. They have a good deal on local honey, so we bought a few jars!

If you are looking for a unique gift either for yourself or for someone else, come check out the…read moreClay Place. It is located at 1555 Shadowlawn Dr. on the corner of Davis Blvd. in Naples. The outside of the Clay Place is a beautiful garden with old trees that provide the perfect backdrop to the pottery pieces displayed outside. Inside you will find even more whimsical pieces to explore. The Clay Place has three buildings, a studio, a kiln room, and a gallery. The artist in residence is Jim Rice who I had the pleasure of meeting during my visit. Jim was born in Kent Ohio. In 1973 he moved to Naples where he opened his first studio. In 1980, he moved to his current location on Shadowlawn Drive. Jim creates environmental ceramic pieces that include fireplace tiles, wall murals, pool tiles, animals, planters, serving dishes, bowls, and house numbers. Colors used in the pottery are reflective of the nearby Gulf of Mexico. To quote Jim "Plattery will get you everywhere!" You can find his pottery decorating the The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club. Pottery ranges from a few dollars to the hundreds. The microwave bacon crisper ($35) would make a great hostess or shower gift as would the ($30) microwave egg poacher. While I was there someone was consulting Jim on their purchase of house numbers. This is a really unique and cool place to look around. You are sure to find something that you fall in love with.

Very cool pottery pieces. Lots of dish ware that are oven, microwave and dishwasher safe. Will do…read morecustom pieces as well. I liked the house numbers and the serving platters that also serve as wall art when not in use.
