It's a well organized store and the employees for the most part, are very friendly and offer their assistance without you even asking. They also have curb side pick up which is handy (if you're lazy). Keep an eye on the buy 1 get 1 free deals and also buy 1 canvas get the other 50% off.

Anhinga Clay Studios - Coffee cup

Anhinga Clay Studios

My friend got a group of girls together for a pottery class to celebrate her birthday and I am so…read morehappy to have discovered Anhinga. I had never taken a pottery class and was so excited to learn the ropes. There are 10 wheels here, so our group of 10 was able to arrive a little early, drink wine and eat some snacks we brought before learning the ropes of ceramics. Victor was our instructor and he was amazing! He first did a demonstration on how to work with the clay and start to make your piece. Then he helped us to create our own pieces. We got to make 3 different things. One item is included in your class price and you can purchase the other 2 for just $8 each. It's a hands on experience but so awesome to learn a new skill and get to be able to take your creation home. I will definitely look into more classes as I truly enjoyed my experience with the class.

I did a deep dive into pottery classes in Miami, and I'm convinced this one is the best. First of…read moreall, you work with real clay and a pottery wheel--unlike many classes where you only hand-sculpt with air-drying clay. Second, they offer two time slots every day of the week, so booking is easy and doesn't require long-term planning. Third, while many classes only let you make your piece and require a separate booking for glazing, here they glaze it for you. And last but not least, the price is super fair compared to other classes that charge $100+. I booked a pottery class as an anniversary gift for my boyfriend. I was a little worried it would be too difficult, but we ended up loving it. The instructions were clear and detailed, and you could ask for the instructor's help at any stage. You get three pieces of clay to work with, and at the end, you choose one to keep (or pay just $8 for an extra piece). After two weeks, we picked up our fired and glazed dishes, and they turned out so adorable--I actually use them in the kitchen! Absolutely recommend this for a date, a girls' get-together, or even a solo, meditative experience.

La Retacera Fabrics

La Retacera Fabrics

I came to Miami to see some doors and windows at a showroom not too far from La Retacera ( which…read moremeans something like; she who has remnants). Those who know me know that I am addicted to buying fabric and I'm always looking for new places. I found this place through an Internet search and off I went. It is located in a very busy shopping plaza in Doral. Drivers around the parking lot are not very courteous and I witnessed a few "almost accidents" One must exercise caution and keep their eyes peeled when driving in this parking lot. The store itself it's not that big, narrow and long. It does have a lot of fabric. They have ryons, lycra, brocade, polyester, cotton, upholstery etc.. A good variety. It is run by two sweet old ladies that every time I brought something and set it on the counter to purchase, they would talk about what they could do with it, what they saw people doing with it, and what would look good made with it. It was the cutest thing. Then they would of course ask me what I intended to do with it and then proceed to talk about it for a bit. I would've taken more pictures if I wasn't so distracted by them. I loved it. The fabric seemed to be organized by price more than by type. Although all brocades and upholstery were in the same area. All other fabric seem to be arranged by price. I was told by the ladies who I think are also the owners, that the store has been there for the past 43 years. That is actually incredible. I don't know how much fabric people actually buy. I know now with all of the DIYers out there, and the mask craze last year, more fabric is being sold now. Hopefully this will help all these little brick and mortar places. I am very happy with my purchases and with the service. If I was not in such a rush, I would have stayed longer to hear these interact more.
