There was a time in my life when you could easily catch me doing the trifecta of stores here - Michaels, PetsMart, and Marsh. Alas, life changes and I don't really frequent this corner anymore with Marsh long gone and PetsMart no longer having as many live animals as they once had. While I'm not exactly a crafty person, I've seemingly always found something I like at Michaels. It's also always been a prime option for me when I've needed something framed. I'm not a fan of Hobby Lobby for a variety of reasons - so, on those rare occasions I need something in the craft arena this tends to be where I go. I'd been looking for an affordable Christmas wreath along with a couple basic decorations. I saw the Michaels Black Friday ad and decided to stop by after church today. This location has accessible parking, though it's not ADA (there's no actual signage). There's an appropriate curb cut and automatic doors. As is nearly always true for craft stores, the aisles tend to be a bit difficult for wheelchair users. I do like that they have the shorter carts. Store personnel tended to be friendly and I will say that craft-oriented shoppers tend to be friendlier than the "cut in front of me and you'll die" shoppers at your usual big box retailers. Michaels was definitely decked out for Christmas and it really dominated the store. They have pretty much all self-serve kiosks for check-out these days - I like that they have big screens (let's face it, Michaels has a high number of older shoppers). I didn't find everything I'd hoped to find at Michaels, though I did find a couple great items at great prices. Check out was quick and the rep was super helpful. Heck, I even signed up for the rewards club (3% back on all purchases, 6% once you hit $300). They also can look up your receipts if you need to make a return - great for folks like me who tend to lose receipts. Michaels has classes, events, and they still have a great selection of frames. They're great for knitting supplies, hobby activities, art supplies, and much more. For Christmas, you can get quite a bit at a wide variety of prices. This was a solid experience. It sure wasn't five star, especially because some of the aisles definitely had some accessibility issues, but it was a very solid four-star and I'd definitely go back. I will note they frequently have items outside their door - in itself wonderful, however, at times they do block the sidewalk in case you're wanting to go to PetsMart next door. Just about every type of craft and hobby supply imaginable. Additionally, there is a limited inventory of fabric and sewing supplies. The staff are very helpful though the store layout is a bit cramped for ease of accessibly. Aisles are well labeled. I find the pricing to be a bit high but the sales are very good (50%) and clearance (60-70%) even better. read more

Hostility about asking if a product has moved or if anyone knows if it has been taken off the shelves is ridiculous. I asked Bob up front and he referred me to a woman that far too quickly lost her composure and helpfulness when attempting to clarify if a product isn't sold in the store anymore. The correct answer to finding out my product isn't on the website is: "If it's not online most likely it's not in store but I can ask our department head" (Say that and I'm not here writing this yelp) NOT, what escalated to "hun I'm up front moving candy today(with a laugh) not sewing that was over 3 months ago" when I asked about things moving departments..... I bought this product a year ago in store it was completely different to me. I understand that I asked twice and that may seem like I'm questioning her knowledge on the situation but she did say "sewing was moved 3 months ago" and I was talking about a model glue product.... It is very hard to understand how she created such a hostile environment in so short of time. I just turned my head from her to show that that was rude and I shook my head at Bob and left. My personal experience aside.... Michael's also gets a 1 star for the reasoning that they just continue to remove products that are vital to artists and hobby people... The way this is going, for the company and this locations staff, I will be glad when I see the sign has changed to a TJ Max or Marshalls. Just hope I don't see that employee again. read more

I needed to have a piece of artwork custom Framed and my friend recommended I go to Michael's because of their great deals. She was right! Michael's had a 70% off sale on custom framing and I took advantage of it. The clerk Joshua was very friendly and helpful and demonstrated excellent customer service. He provided me a great selection of frames and explained my options for the framing. I went with a gallery style frame, very simple and attractive looking. The price was well worth what I paid for the whole custom framing with the 70% off discount special. I was very happy with the end result. Michael's has a wonderful selection of arts and crafts for the artist, as well as home decor for your home. My late mother was very crafty and loved going to Michael's for arts and crafts for her projects. When I go to Michael's, I am reminded of my mother and all the times I have spent with her shopping at Michael's. This is a special place in my heart, and I will always support Michael's and encourage people to shop at Michael's. It is an excellent store with a great selection!! Who doesn't recommend Michaels? They have it all. From glitter to decor it is amazing what you can find.

I went in with the need for some fabric to match a quilt a student is making. I never go here to Michael's for fabric because they have a limited supply and although that has not changed, I was able to find a piece of fabric that I think will work. It also happened to be on clearance, I got some help from a clerk and she was really nice that helped my experience. It was very empty on a weekday afternoon, but everything was clean and orderly and every representative I talk to was very friendly and helpful. read more

I've been to a lot of craft and hobby stores, including several other Michaels in the area, and I have to say this is one of my favorites! Not only did the store have a tidy appearance, but it was well stocked with the types of items I expect. Sure, there are some other places that are even larger and have items like furniture and faux antiques, but I wouldn't buy those types of things anyway. Here, they have rows of crafts, florals, accessories, and a few other items like toys. Basically, they had what we were looking for. When we had a little trouble finding a specific item in the craft section, one of the employees brought us directly to the item. My favorite place for all things crafty! It is dangerous when I come here for I end up spending tons of money on scrapbook paper, decorations, and other items that I clearly don't need but are too damn cute to pass. I went for some Halloween and Dia de Muertos decorations. I was able to find great items but nothing close to what I actually needed which was a sugar skull mold. After driving to two different Michael's and no luck, I had to go to Walmart. I found some good stuff there. At Michaels I bought two leggings that were mummy and mermaid designs and wooding coffins for my altar. They have a light inside that can be used to add a little color into the altar. I think my office altar will look good for this year's Dia de Muertos read more

I went in to look for fabric. I found exactly what I needed plus found 2 carts full of fabric that was $.50 a yard. I ended up getting several yards of the clearance. The employee who was helping me was a young named Benjamin. His scanner kept dieing on him and he had to keep starting over. 30 yards of fabric later, he was still smiling and polite. I could mosey for hours in craft stores like Michaels but no matter how great my time may be dreaming up crafty dreams - it can all wash away with a brief pissy cashier encounter. I recently found myself running to every Michael's store in the Indy metro area looking for a specific item, so this review should serve to compare those 6 locations. A little difficult to get to, but everything is neat, clean, and well laid out at this location. I don't think this is the largest location as far as space or stock, but certainly seems to be the best run. Friendly and attentive employees, good stock of items, and great layout. So, I'm at this store way too much! It's to the point that the employees recognize me now! What can I say? I love a good craft store with a ton of sales and coupons! The store can be a bit messy and that can be frustrating. I will assume this is because they are constantly swapping out for new supplies, changing things for new seasons, etc. I have seen some reviews that star the employees are not nice but I have personally never experienced that. I've frequented this Michael's store on many occasions (ahem sorority crafts ahem) and have really enjoyed the shopping experience! Everything is laid out in an organized fashion, and while they have LOTS of stuff it doesn't feel cluttered. Sometimes in the wooden craft area they're out of things I'm really looking for (ahem Greek letters ahem) and they don't seem to restock often. Also, the other day it was a bit hectic as almost every employee was on the floor restocking, hence making it difficult to navigate...but how can I blame them, they were just doing their job! It's a craft store, my really my forte'. But if I need something, I'm glad they're here. The pro: It's a good sized store, and they have a LOT of stuff. I can just about always find that item I need. The con: The last two times I've been there, checkout has been less than optimal. Even when there's a long line, there's only been one register open and we've had to wait an extended period of time to check out. I'd think they'd want to bring someone up front to expedite the check out process for their customers. It's a Michaels, so what's really to say. I love crafty crap, so yep, I like it. Glitter, stickers, scrapbook stuff, stamps, paint supplies, some decorating and jewelry stuff. A solid mix of all the sparkle and DIY stuff you can handle. I wish I found a way to be better at tracking what is on sale when, because that's when you can really clean up! This location tends to be very busy, and they changed the checkout line setup, so if it's a Saturday, bring a book for that. read more

They've got a little bit of everything if you are into crafts and this is a one stop shop if you are looking for holiday decorations to get your house looking festive. My wife and I found some good prices on Christmas items that were on sale. The only thing I dislike about this location is how cramped the aisles are. You can only have one person going down an aisle at a time if you are pushing a cart. The lack of space makes shopping here a little annoying since you are constantly bumping into people and having to excuse yourself. read more

Simply wanting to make it known that the store in Indianapolis, on 82nd street is a disaster. Last 3 times in, 20 mins wait in line, no one at store to assist. The one person who did, just pointed in a direction with a huge attitude. Won't be spending my money here again. I had to BUILD a product because they wouldn't help me locate the product. As I'm sitting in my living room gazing up at my framed maps of Great Britain, I'm thanking Michael's. If it wasn't for them I would have never found such great framing deals after Christmas. I wasn't aware of how costly it was to customize frame, but by golly... it's costly. Now that my maps are nicely framed, I'm so thankful I finally took the time to stop by this store. The folks in the framing department are talented and super nice. They do great work. Custom frames are extremely expensive, but the framers will work with you to find a deal that is on sale. Let me start by saying, I AM NOT a crafty person....at all! I drop in to Michael's when my kids need stuff for school projects and such. I always get good service and great ideas from the staff. This last visit was for something I was putting together for a friends birthday party. Once again I received wonderful customer service. I told the lady what I was trying to put together and she told me how to go about it and what items would work best for the project. The cashier that helped me, Robert, was very nice and very understanding when I told him a situation I had where the company had put the wrong plug in in one of the boxes of that store's products. He called his manager over (didn't see his name tag) and they both were very helpful, nice, and understanding. I had also cut open my hand a little before I had come in, they offered me a band aid and disinfecting wipe even when I said I was okay. Awesome customer service! Would recommend! read more

This is a craft store shouldn't everyone in it be happy? At Michaels the answer is no including me. I usually come on the weekend and typically during prime holiday crafting season. I understand this is a fail on my part and maybe this is where I am going wrong? This last time I came in looking for Halloween supplies. It was the Monday before Halloween, again my fault, but the store looked like it exploded (I mean like the fit hits the shan all up in here) with carts & boxes of Christmas merchandise blocking the very important spooky ghost I intended to purchase. So, we were already off to a bad start. Then, I went in search of blank plastic cat masks that I intended to decorate. This was like a scavenger hunt and there wasn't a sales assosicate in site that could point me in the right direction to the hidden treasure..sigh. I finally found the exact item I was looking for tucked in a small bottom shelf in the kids craft section. Kudos to Michaels because I had been to other stores in search of this item and I actually found what I was looking for here. Score! Next, acrylic paint. Call me crazy but I think it would be helpful to put all paints in the same area or even isles back to back? I first found the (fine art) acrylic paint then on the opposite side of the store I found the (craft) acrylic paint. I found myself walking back and forth across the store comparing paint products. Finally, time to check out and the staff just didn't seem like they wanted to be there which lead to me leaving with a frown face like Nick Miller from New Girl. Encountered a horrible cashier so I now go to another location. I also can't believe how expensive their poor selection of open frames is, even with 40-50% off. I do my own framing and go elsewhere for that kind of stuff. The west 86th location has more stuff and better service, I've found recently. I've shopped at this location now 5-6 times. The store is organized but I have two critiques. One being they don't stock enough of certain items. I purchased black party bags two weeks ago. I bought al they had. I came back 2 weeks later and they still hadn't gotten more in. Same issue with the halloween kids crafts, they stock 6-10 of each items and don't replenish the shelves. It's been a while anyways since the last one so I guess I'm giving you an up-to-date review. Their service is amazing! I don't know where they find these employees, but they need more of them around other stores! They have some of the best personalities and the upmost respect. They answer all my crazy questions. I love it when I'm asking a million question and I don't hear one huffs or a glance of agitation by my curiosity.
