Stopped in here last Sunday. I could literally get lost in this store and I mean that in the best way possible. Being and art teacher, this stores grabs me in all directions like, "oooooOoOoOhhh sparkly things over here, but wait fresh Sharpies over there!!" Today was the last time I ever set foot in this store. I ordered a pre made open back frame online for in-store pickup ONLY after calling to verify that this store's framing department could sell me a piece of glass as well as a custom mat for my item. The associate I spoke with stated that each item costed approximately $10-12 dollars. When I went into the store to pick up my frame and order these additional pieces, I got a completely different story. I was then told I would be charged $111!!!!!!! After I already spent $60 on a frame! For a piece of glass and a piece of cardboard? After the associate, who clearly had no clue what she was doing, called over the store manager, things got worse. She was complacent and unhelpful, and offered me no solutions and no apology that I was given incorrect information and wasted my time and gas! I would strongly recommend that if you're looking for framing, you choose to support a local artisan instead of this scam-y chain. Customer service and honesty, as well as proper employee training are obviously not a priority here. read more

I'm seriously in love with this store. The staff is very friendly and helpful (if you need them), and their sales are great. I already have way more hobbies than I can handle, but Michael's keeps inspiring to make me expand my crafts and techniques and make them truly my own. They don't completely replace fine art supply stores or niche art stores (like stained glass, which I do), but for more general genres of arts, they fit the bill! read more

Went to michaels today looking for frame I had purchased 2weeks ago. Waited 15 minutes to speak to someone in frame Dept. SAlesperson busy with another customer. Finally one of the people in back came out told me asle number it might be in said he would be back needless to say I waited and waited then left to bring my business else where. Won't be going back soon! read more

I love this place so much. I go in for one thing and come out with 150 items. I always to make sure I go in to shop right at 9am when they open...I like it quiet and find that everyone who works there is very helpful. read more

Guilford location...wonderful ,helpful, creative, user friendly staff! This is one of Michaels smaller locations, however they do have a really nice jewelry making section, and seem to be adding and improving all the time, Thank you, yes we have noticed! Keep expanding! They do need to formalize and publicize jewelry making classes to the Guilford and shoreline community. I suggest a manager sit in and make suggestions for positive improvements in all classes. What a big beautiful craft room! So many options! Thank you for encouraging, all individual projects! Your out of the box thinking, and cost effective prices, are so inviting and open to all newbies, as well as advanced. Guilford has another beading store, located in a small strip mall, in downtown Guilford. I understand it was once very popular, under its previous beloved manager, however the current staff, although highly experienced, is not exactly welcoming, especially to those who are novices, and do not know proper "beading terms" but are eager to learn. They are also rather pricy compared to Michaels, but do have some beautiful high end beads, The classes at this small local store, are unfortunately disorganized, with 2 teachers and 6 people in tiny little over heated room, the instructors appear overwhelmed, and never offer a seat at the table, to those who are doing unusual creative projects, and not using all Of the stores products exclusively! However, if you like standard beading 101, and like to do comfortable, "wear to church" or annual Christmas bazar type projects, you will enjoy the Bead Hive! With that said, This is a great opportunity for Michaels to get jewelry section, and classes together. Your big beautiful craft room, and highly creative staff, promote "do it your way". Also...I hear countless requests from locals for a sewing section, and sewing classes. This would be a big boost in business for the Guilford store. It would be worth removing a less profitable section, and adding a material and sewing section, with intro classes etc. I am ready to give you 5 stars Michaels, as soon as you formalize and promote your classes. I have a large group of local progressive friends that I speak for...we want you to succeed , and become a part of our local craft culture here in Guilford, local shoreline. We find the current craft culture rather dated and stuffy. This does not include the excellent formal classes at the fantastic Guilford Hand Craft center, or the extraordinary Sand Castle in Branford CT...with the best hand made glass beads I have ever ever seen, and friendly hands on staff. These places offer totally different experiences, and differ greatly from Michaels business, and offerings. read more

My complaint is not with the products they sell, but with the customer service - one person in particular. I shop at this location frequently (every couple of weeks). Each time, this one particular worker who is a male with long hair tied in a ponytail (didn't catch the name b/c I was so annoyed) mentions how expensive the items I purchase are. This wouldn't typically bother me except that his tone of voice seems to imply that I should feel ashamed or reconsider my shopping habits. I find this extremely odd for someone working in retail. I mean - the whole point of a store is for people to buy things. Just shut up and take my money. I am always polite to him but it's gotten to the point that I literally made a Yelp account just to complain. Not only that, but he breathes down my neck (and I'm sure other people) while I'm shopping. I understand that workers need to protect the store's products from being stolen. I get that. But obviously hovering over my shoulder while I'm trying to make a decision about which product or brand to buy is extremely irritating. I've walked away from products and not purchased them at all because the way he stands and stares is so annoying - he doesn't even pretend to be doing something other than watching me. It's especially annoying because I'm a frequent shopper there - they know me. He sees me often. I make large purchases (usually $200) almost every time. I'm sure that this is what he was trained to do - but if staff are going to watch customers to make sure that nothing is stolen, at least train them to have a little more tact. It's like being at a restaurant and the waiter is standing there looking over your shoulder for minutes at a time while you decide what you're going to order - it makes for an unpleasant experience. I will not be shopping at this location so long as this man works there. Wish I caught his name - the only identifying trait he has is a long ponytail. read more

The staff here is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. We went in with some very unformed ideas about projects. Each time, the people had good ideas about how to accomplish them and furthermore knew exactly, in that huge store, where to find every little thing. They even walked us over - in that big store - to find the little things. We were very pleased. read more

Was in yesterday for some quick Christmas shopping. I was amazed that they had already cleared out almost all of their Christmas items via clearance!! The store looked a bit ransacked but it was clean and tidy. The employees were very friendly and the man at the checkout was exceptionally patient with the elderly woman that checked out in front of me. Kudos to the staff! read more
