My one disappointment was the customer service. They keep spindles and yarn winders in the back, and when I asked about them, I was just told they're made of a specific wood and hinted that I should touch them, even though they were out on display, no one mentioned they actually sell them. Turns out they're tucked away on a top shelf, easy to miss unless you really look around. We spent about 30 minutes total in the shop, arriving roughly an hour before closing. Street parking was easy to find but can be limited. Overall, a charming spot with good stock, but the staff could be more forthcoming and helpful when customers show genuine interest in a product.

The woman at the desk acknowledged me briefly but continued to scroll on her computer. Her eyes never left the screen. I stood there several minutes waiting for her to finish but she didn't look up or speak to me further. No one else was in the store. I started to look around on my own but the sections weren't labeled, so I was unsure where to look for the weight of yarn that the pattern called for. No help was forthcoming so I left. I had driven more than 30 minutes to shop there because I want to support local yarn stores, and I was kind of shocked to be treated so dismissively.

I would love to learn more and have wanted to take a beginner series at Second Spring for a while, but am perplexed by the class schedule. Everything seems to be on weekdays at 10:30 AM or 1:30 PM, with no Saturday or evening (even 4:30 or 5 PM would be nice!) options for people who have work (or school) on weekdays. As someone who has taught craft classes myself, I find this a bit frustrating. It's so important that incredibly special handicrafts like quilting be preserved and passed down to the next generation of makers, yet this schedule seems designed to accommodate only retirees. That aside, Second Spring is a charming quilt shop that manages to pack a ton of fabrics, notions, tools, and patterns into a very bright and cheerful little space. The front window display is always a joy to look at, with colorful seasonal quilts and other projects. I continue to hold out hope that I will be able to make it to a class eventually.
