I can't in good conscience recommend Michael's Event Catering. The day of wedding the food was fine and many guests thought the staff seemed nice. (Although the servers assigned to me and my husband could have been more attentive-they were friendly but came over once during cocktail hour to see if we needed appetizers. Same with dessert.) My problem with Michael's was the communication, particularly with Glenda. They're surprisingly disorganized for a company that does weddings all the time. The Tuesday before the wedding she reached out and stated we didn't have a bar (by bar they mean the physical table the bartender stands at while serving drinks) on the proposal and asked if we were bringing our own bar. (Not really a proposal at this point as our bill was paid 14 days prior to the event date.) I replied that we were not planning on bringing our own bar and that cost was added on. The next day Glenda emailed again and said that they miscalculated the venue rental fee, which is paid to the caterer for Smithville. I had said at the time to my husband that many couples wouldn't have the money to pay at that point. Then the day of the wedding in the morning, I get a text from Glenda asking if we were bringing our own wine glasses as she's looking over the proposal and doesn't see wine glasses on it. I replied that no we were not. She then asked about champagne glasses. I replied that yes we were doing a champagne toast which is in our notes. My bridal party didn't want me to say anything further but I wanted to make it clear that we were not going to pay for the additional barware. She replied back "Dana, it was never on the proposal, I'm sorry you didn't catch it either. Excuse me-I'm not the caterer. I shouldn't be dealing with barware questions at 10 am when I'm getting married at 2 pm. We could not have been more clear when we talked to the caterers about what we wanted. We always noted that we were serving alcohol as I had asked several questions like if we could have a keg, if there were restrictions on any liquors, etc. I saw in another review that someone noted that they didn't list ice on the proposal so I made sure to ask about ice which had not been on the bill until that point. I had talked to her for over two hours about the drinks and bar and she still forgot to ask me or include the bar and barware on our invoice. At no point did I ever suggest we were bringing our own wine glasses or thinking of doing that. That week alone she had forgotten two expenses so why didn't they notice the barware missing before then? I felt during the process that it took forever for her to answer questions and she had terrible follow through with questions. I asked several times about the bridal suite at the facility. I asked about renting a cotton candy machine and, you guessed it, never got an answer. I could go on and on... If you go with them, I wouldn't assume any details are covered. Seriously ask about the ice, the coffee mugs, the wine glasses, etc because it seems like they will forget these details and you'll be bothered by them when you're getting your hair done. read more

Michael's was beyond amazing. I needed a caterer for my son's rehearsal dinner and read reviews. Not having ever used Michael's I was uncertain but reading the reviews I decided to give them a try. OH MY GOD am I ever so happy I did! The food was outstanding. My father said it was the best tenderloin he ever ate and all my guests commented on how delicious the food was. Kevin and Cameron was very professional and helpful with everything. Michael even worked with me on vegan options for the bride and other vegan guests. My husband and I used Michael's Event Catering for our wedding this weekend. Michael and his staff were excellent when it came to communicating with us over the past year. They have an extensive menu and multiple different packages. They even traveled almost 3 hours to cater the event and cooked everything on site. We rented all of our linen and chairs through them, and also hired a bartender as well. I heard many people praise the food at the wedding, especially the appetizers during the cocktail hour. Their wait staff were professional and friendly, and some of my friends and family specifically mentioned that they liked the bartender, Kevin. I would definitely recommend Michael as the caterer for your next event. read more

The food was excellent. Honestly, it was much better in every way than I could have hoped for. They made everything very easy. Michael and his staff were a pleasure to deal with, and extremely helpful, in the year leading up to my wedding, and they were simply exceptional on my wedding day. The food was fantastic and even my pickiest guests (including my 11 year old who refuses to explore new foods) were raving. I specifically wanted a meat carving station at my wedding, and Michael did not disappoint. The filet melted in our mouths, it was so good! I learned of Michael's Event Catering years ago when they catered my sister's vegan wedding beautifully and deliciously, despite the dietary restrictions, so I had no doubt in my mind who I wanted to cater my wedding. Michael and his staff went above and beyond and I can't thank them enough for everything! I would not recommend this company to anyone. I used them for my wedding in August and couldn't have been more upset by how unprofessional they were. We were charged an 18% service fee that was supposed to include site visits, however, they decided not to visit the venue. Then the day of the wedding showed up an hour late and tried to charge us extra for set-up and clean-up and an extra fee because they couldn't use the sinks. All of which would have been avoided if they had visited, or simply, called the venue like any normal professional would think to do. Especially if they are charging their customer for it. Additionally, friends from our wedding did the entire set-up because they showed up late. Groomsman were running chairs for the ceremony as our guests were showing up! My family and myself had to stay to help clean up after the event and we were still charged for a clean-up fee. Also, none of the tables were bused during the entire reception and our own guests started to bus their own tables. My husband and myself had to bus our own sweetheart table in order to make room for cutting the cake and we had to use a dirty knife since none of the catering staff could be found. I also had guests come and tell me that the staff members were starting to dress down while the reception was still going on! What was even more upsetting is Michael was coming up to the groom during the reception to try to talk about extra charges! Other guests had to intervene and told Michael how unprofessional he was being and not to bother the groom. Also, no caterer should try to tack on surprise fees on the day of the wedding. The food may be a little cheaper than other caterers in the area, however, it is well worth your while to pay a little extra for professionalism. Michaels Catering put together a beautiful backyard wedding in two months time for my husband and I, because of Covid-19. The tents, chairs, tables, and setup was so much more than we imagined. Especially the LIGHTS they helped us rent. The way they glimmered over the pool made our night especially magical. The caterers were awesome as well. They were friendly, professional, and on the ball with everything. The bartenders kept our drinks full and the servers made sure we had everything we needed. People were loving the food but most of all they were into the ice cream bar! Glenda was the main person we communicated with and she was excellent and keeping us in the loop, even with our last minute adjustments. The day could not have been more perfect, and this company was a huge part of that. If you're looking for a high-quality catering company, especially for outdoors, Michaels is the place to go!!! read more

Would give them 0 stars, but it wouldn't allow me to. Extremely rude and unprofessional company! They arrived late to the wedding, and interrupted the bride and groom several times to discuss prices. When the weather turned, they lacsidaisically allowed the groomsmen to set up the chairs inside. They were no help when questions were asked and made the event more work then needed. If they could not handle what was required they should not have agreed to do it!!! Terrible. Looking to congratulate the groom, I found him cornered by the caterers being argued at about time and prices, totally unprofessional. The groomsmen cleaned up the area as best they could before leaving, groom changed and stayed behind to empty trash and made sure everything was clean.
