We celebrated our daughters first year anniversary rather than the traditional reception. Like so many weddings, our celebration was delayed a year. The tasting at Knowlton mansion was a perfect way to get excited about the wedding. I truly enjoyed sampling all the appetizers and entree choices. The cake and fillings were all amazing. My daughter, the bride, was well taken care of by the Bridal assistant, Danny. Danny offered champagne to us upon arrival. She was sweet and kind and helped us bustle my daughters dress which was no easy task! Not only did we enjoy the ballroom, but the bride gets full access to the upstairs rooms for changing, hair, makeup etc. there was an incredible stone wine cellar we took advantage of too. Let's not forget the outside tent and fire pit. The servers and bartenders were very attentive as was Chris, our wedding coordinator for the day. The service was friendly and kind. I visited for a baby shower but I also had a quick mini tour. Inside most of its historical integrity has been maintained. Outside the grounds are lovely and manicured to perfection with view for a almost spooky glaring lights shining on the house in the evening. This would make a perfect haunted house or a place to take your children for trick-or-treat. But truly the inside is a stunner it's decorated with decor that appears to be between the late 1800 and early 1900s. The attachment or extra space built at the side or back of the home is where you have catered events. This space is very large and can accommodate 200-300 people if not more. On the grounds there's a beautiful Pergola where I'm sure a bride and groom can take the most stunning pictures. The staircase inside can also make for a great photo op! The manager and server was thoughtful and attentive and did their best to accommodate our needs. Since our special occasion is a few months away, we expect to receive the same level of service, if not better. My only concern is the physical condition of the facility, especially the bathrooms. The appliances around the toilet are rusted. It seems there have been very few updates in a while. Also, the outdoor carpet at the front entrance is old and torn and there is a musty smell in the building that greets you as you enter the foyer. First impressions make a difference. Guests love to be catered to and catering goes beyond just food. It is about creating a beautiful atmosphere that people will remember for years to come. This is a great catering hall with potential to be even greater and I hope the owners will consider taking some steps to make that happen. For example the entrees were manned for maybe the first 20 minutes and then there was nobody there and I saw people just come up and take whatever they wanted. When the desserts were put out there were people touching the cake before it was cut and at least two women who just piled their plates high and left little to try for anyone else. They seemed under-prepared for the amount of people that were there and it was hard to catch someone to ask questions. They also seemed a bit overpriced for what's on offer compared to some other places we looked at for our wedding. I'd say decent for a banquet or birthday but probably not for something bigger.

We found out only after contacting Smithville about something else. They were not communicative. We tried quite a few times to set up a tasting. Once we finally heard back and set up a date, we found ourselves sitting in a cluttered, cramped storage room. Kevin barely talked to us since he was more concerned about discussing a new business venture with another gentleman. Showing how disorganized he is, he did not know that we already booked them to cater at Smithville, etc. I found him very gruff and unprofessional. It also took them forever to contact us back about who the bakery was and their contact information so we could order the cake. Speaking of gruff, the serving staff, except for a few, were also a bit rude. For instance, no one served the bride and groom hor de vours, so I, as the mother of the bride, cut in line to get some, saying why and who it was for. Servers were very rude until one agreed to help me. This could be because the woman who was supposed to be the maitre d was not able to do her job. They lied to me, saying that one of the bartenders did not show, but I found out that even though we paid for extra bartenders, they never hired/set them up, so she had to cover them. They accused me of providing a broken slushie drink machine when they obviously did not read even the 1st line on the directions about not putting ice into the machine. Once we arrived and corrected them, luckily, it was not broken, and then it worked fine. My husband and several others were told that they could not use some of our alcohol for mixed drinks because there was not enough... LIE. There were at least 2 bottles of every type, and we have PLENTY leftover. I had to correct this. They apparently were concentrating on beer and signature drinks only. My son-in-law also had an issue getting his cooler back from them. He delivered the alcohol using his personal cooler...a higher-end tailgating cooler... I was told that the catering staff asked several times whose it was, and they were told by several people whose it was. They took it with them and then gave my son- in- law a hard time when he wanted to get it back. This too could have been avoided if they communicated AND... IF THEY DID NOT CLEAN EVERYTHING UP AT 9:30 WHEN WE STILL HAD 1/2 AN HOUR LEFT TO THE RECEPTION!!!! I am saying they had pulled everything, tablecloths and all, off the tables, bars closed, etc., by 9:30. They pulled their truck up before guests were even off the dance floor. Compared to other catering companies I have used, what really sets them apart is how accommodating they are. Where other companies will charge us if we need to cancel an order if it's within 24 hours, Casandry's does not do that. They also don't charge us for delivery since we are local. We also use their services in our café for employees to purchase lunch. They offer a few hot specials each day and always provide a variety of sandwiches and salads. It's great that our employees can enjoy a great lunch and don't have to leave the building. I am very happy with their food and services!
