I usually order the Avocado Toast, and my love will often choose a build-your-own omelet. I recently tried the Power Up Grains Bowl with vegan eggs as my protein. He said my dish looked "painfully healthy", knowing this was a compliment. I negated my clean eating by splitting the OMG French Toast with him. Batter dipped thick-cut multigrain French toast with layers of crispy bacon, candied walnuts, drizzled with caramel sauce and sweet vanilla cream frosting. WHAT? These bastards are fattening as hell, but you have all day to burn them off. OMG is right! This is a place where you're never searching for someone to refill your coffee nor bring you ketchup. They're on it! We've found that going early or late will increase your chances of being seated quickly. It's always worth the wait!

Review: Elsie's - Gloucester City, NJ…read more Elsie's is a charming, ultra‑small spot with true 1950s diner character. The entire place seats only about six people at a counter with stools, creating an intimate, nostalgic feel. Service is very friendly, welcoming, and exactly what you'd hope for in a classic diner-style eatery. The food hits the mark for comfort classics. The burgers are straight out of a 50s diner playbook--simple, tasty, and made to order. Crinkle‑cut fries pair perfectly with their excellent cheese curds, which are a standout. They also offer made‑to‑order sodas, coffees, shakes, and ice cream, adding to the retro charm. A small place with a big personality, Elsie's is worth the stop. I'll definitely be back.

A Burger Worth Writing Home About…read more I stopped into Elsie's Burgers & Shakes recently and went with their $15 burger and shake special, and let me tell you... this might be one of the best lunch deals around. I kept things simple and ordered a classic chocolate milkshake. Thick, creamy, cold, and topped with whipped cream -- exactly what a milkshake should be. But what really impressed me was looking over their insane list of flavor options. They have dozens of syrups and combinations available. Everything from cookie butter and cotton candy to lavender and pumpkin spice. I went traditional this time, but next visit I'm definitely branching out. Now let's talk about the burger. Absolutely outstanding. Perfectly cooked, juicy, with melted cheese, crisp lettuce, and a toasted bun that held everything together the way a good burger bun should. Nothing over-engineered. Just a straight-up great burger. Honestly, it's one of the best burgers I've had in many years. A quick heads up: seating is limited. There's one small two-top table and about six seats at the bar, so this is not a big dining room. Personally, I think it makes the place feel even more like a hidden gem. My advice would be to come here for a midweek lunch if you want to avoid crowds. What's really exciting though is that Elsie's is part of the bigger renaissance happening in Gloucester City. The town has been leaning hard into its American-Irish culture, and it's showing. This year marked the 11th annual Early St. Patrick's Day celebration, which happens in early March. The parade has grown incredibly popular -- I personally know people who travel from multiple states to attend, and it's not unusual to see the Governor of New Jersey and other politicians or celebrities show up. Along with that growth, the local restaurant scene is getting really good. Within walking distance you have places like The Bank Bar across the street, Pudge's, and City Public House just to name a few. Elsie's fits right into that momentum. Small place. Big flavors. Great burger. Great shake. And absolutely worth stopping in if you're anywhere near Gloucester City. I'll definitely be back.

Everything coordinates in a modern, farmhouse flair, down to the silverware and cloth napkins. Love the dish ware as well! I was the only one to have a beverage. I got a peach iced chai tea and it was sweet, but delicious. Perfect for a warm day! We then had breakfast, two blueberry pancakes that were so thick, they looked like a layer cake. They were topped with fresh blueberries, lemon zest, and lemon icing. Very good! My daughter had the peach, crème brûlée French toast. If you have a sweet tooth, you must try it! It was absurdly good! Soft. With a crispy creme brûlée crust. We also shared an order of potatoes that I'm unsure if they were actually made in house. But. They were very tasty all the same.
