11/21/21 WOW WOW WOW!!! I can't say enough wonderful things about the Knowlton Mansion. It is so exquisite and just pure class all the way. We celebrated our daughters first year anniversary rather than the traditional reception. Like so many weddings, our celebration was delayed a year. The tasting at Knowlton mansion was a perfect way to get excited about the wedding. I truly enjoyed sampling all the appetizers and entree choices. The cake and fillings were all amazing. My daughter, the bride, was well taken care of by the Bridal assistant, Danny. Danny offered champagne to us upon arrival. She was sweet and kind and helped us bustle my daughters dress which was no easy task! Not only did we enjoy the ballroom, but the bride gets full access to the upstairs rooms for changing, hair, makeup etc. there was an incredible stone wine cellar we took advantage of too. Let's not forget the outside tent and fire pit. The servers and bartenders were very attentive as was Chris, our wedding coordinator for the day. The service was friendly and kind. All the food was such a treat. Artfully prepared and crafted special occasion food! You know you're at a special affair when you are served amazing creations. This is a beautiful venue. First thing, this is an historical mansion recognized by The National Register of Historical Places. Knowlton Mansion is a large gothic style multilevel home with large grounds. I visited for a baby shower but I also had a quick mini tour. Inside most of its historical integrity has been maintained. Outside the grounds are lovely and manicured to perfection with view for a almost spooky glaring lights shining on the house in the evening. This would make a perfect haunted house or a place to take your children for trick-or-treat. But truly the inside is a stunner it's decorated with decor that appears to be between the late 1800 and early 1900s. The attachment or extra space built at the side or back of the home is where you have catered events. This space is very large and can accommodate 200-300 people if not more. On the grounds there's a beautiful Pergola where I'm sure a bride and groom can take the most stunning pictures. The staircase inside can also make for a great photo op! The staff was friendly, the house and grounds are a stunner. I will have to do some research to see if they catered the event because everything I mean everything was delicious. read more

We not only set up a wedding at this venue (I'm a florist) but we also attended the wedding (the bride's parents are good friends) and we had a fantastic time. The venue is gorgeous and very comfortable. All the staff were so nice (both for during the wedding set up and as attendees) and my hubby and I were extremely impressed with the food. Everything was just perfect and considering that we just coming out of a pandemic, we could not have been more pleased with our day spent at Knowlton Mansion! I have never given a wedding venue 5 stars on Yelp, except for my own. The wedding I attended last Friday at this place was just so damn good it deserves 5 stars! I was very concerned that this venue would be a typical NE Philly banquet hall type of place, but despite its location, this venue is great! It's secluded, private, beautiful, and you don't feel like you are where you are when you're here. The wedding I attended was outside, and the way it was set up was gorgeous. The inside where the reception was held was rustic and pretty, and the food was to die for. All of the hors d'oeuvres I had were cooked very well. I couldn't get enough of the duck and tuna. There were also two pasta stations that were opened during cocktail hour, which I LOVED. You didn't have to wait for someone to pass by to snag a snack, and the two pastas were really darn good. I also was relieved that there were actually places to put your dirty dishes and toothpicks and napkins, and there were also staff bussing during cocktail hour. That's really one of my biggest pet peeves - not having anywhere to put your trash. That wasn't a problem here! The one thing that I was disappointed with was the chicken Marsala entree. It wasn't chicken marsala at all. It was...tomato chicken. Like, chicken covered in tomato sauce. It wasn't good. However, the eggplant entree was MAD GOOD! The eggplant may have looked like the flesh of a walker on The Walking Dead, but it tasted A-OK so I got over that pretty quick. Overall, I can't fault this place for having one sub-par entree choice. All of the apps were delish, the bathrooms were spacious and clean, and the staff were attentive. The Knowlton Mansion is a breathtaking venue, and the staff of Conroy Catering are unmatched. Our event coordinator, Rebecca, was incredibly wonderful and efficient, and helped produce an absolute dream of a wedding. Our main attendant Dani was SUPERB. She always made sure we had food and drinks at hand, she made sure we wanted for nothing, and she was so upbeat the entire time. Every server and attendant was professional, kind, prompt, efficient - I cannot recommend them enough. If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't change a single thing. read more

First off I want to thank Lori immensely for everything she did for my husband and I. I had my May 2016 wedding here. I'll never be able to say enough good things about Knowlton! They catered every single one of my needs. A year and half of back and fourth emails/calls with Lori and not one email went unnoticed nor phone call not returned. They work with you 100% with every last detail and they are happy to do so. I was supposed to get married outside in the garden area, but due to unfortunate weather I was unable too. Without hesitation they assured me they would set up everything inside and make it just as perfect and it believe me it was. On the day of my wedding I had Jeannie as my coordinator for everything. LOVE LOVE LOVE her! She held my hand right before I walked down the isle and told me to breathe and enjoy every minute. So sweet. When we finally got to our cocktail hour they brought us food and drinks the entire time we were taking pictures inside the mansion. The food is out of this world. So good and so many things to choose from when you do your tasting! -- There was never a point where someone from the Knowlton wasn't offering me something or trying to help with whatever needed to happen. My husband & I originally had our wedding reception scheduled for 11/21/20 at the Knowlton Mansion. Like many other couples, we had to push our reception out due to Covid. We ended up having our reception on 11/21/21, our wedding anniversary. The team at Conroy Catering were excellent to work with, whether it be with Jack Conroy himself, Eileen, Chris, Cara, etc. They were all helpful & understanding & made a crazy and stressful situation way less stressful. The Knowlton Mansion itself is beautiful & historic. The food was excellent. Our guests were talking for days after how amazing the food was, especially the cocktail hour, and the Wine Cellar we opted to have during our cocktail hour. The staff was amazing - Danny was one of the highlights of our experience. She was sweet and a wonderful bridal attendant, bringing a bottle of champagne up to us while we got ready, making sure we had drinks throughout the night, bringing us hors d'oeuvres during the cocktail hour, helping me bustle my dress upstairs since I didn't have a traditional bridal party, serving us our entrees, and helping us with our cake cutting. The night was perfect, and I really hope I get to come to a wedding or another event at the Knowlton Mansion as a guest. Thank you thank you thank you Conroy Catering! read more

Eileen and Danielle made our day perfection. On your wedding day, you don't have time to worry about details and specifics and with Knowlton, we didn't have to. Every single pinterest idea I had that i threw at them, they took with ease leading up to the big day. His and Her Cocktails? Last minute live music for cocktail hour? Private champagne toast? They took it all in stride. Lori was always quick to respond and super flexible when my hair and makeup people showed up a full hour before they were supposed to. Food was great, and everyone complimented how beautifully decorated the venue was. I would highly recommend Knowlton to anyone. read more

My friends had their wedding at Knowlton Mansion last weekend. While Knowlton did not end up looking like the type of "mansion" that I had envisioned (probably due to the brainwashing performed on me by the likes of shows like "Cribs"), it was still a beautiful venue that worked quite well for the wedding. Some general thoughts: - The ceremony was held in their garden, which was quite beautiful ... as long as you faced the proper direction. Do a 180 and you find yourself looking straight onto a busy intersection with a couple gas stations at the corner. Not exactly the more glorious view so, yeah, don't turn around. - There is something to be said about attending a wedding that's not in a generic hotel. The mansion had tons of character, from the vaulted ceilings to the tall pillars. The "homey" feeling set the perfect tone for the wedding. - Food-wise, the spread that Knowlton produced was quite delicious. The appetizers that were served during the cocktail reception included things like mini crab cakes, seared ahi tuna and lamb skewers -- all very tasty. Likewise, the actual dinner was much better than I thought it would be (I have a bias against wedding food in general). My strip steak was actually prepared decently well, fairly close to the medium rare that I usually like. I was definitely impressed, considering how many people they had to prepare food for (~150). For anyone looking to plan a wedding in the Philly area, I highly recommend that you give the Knowlton Mansion a look. read more

The sister property to Conroy Catering's Glen Foerd Mansion, Knowlton Mansion is a gorgeous venue for any special event. The place retains much of its character from when it truly was a house. Living areas are furnished accordingly and seem to flow into the ballroom area. A cellar that is primarily used for cigar smoking feels like something out of an old castle; gray stone surrounds and old barrels and bottles and books are all over the place. Probably for effect, but I totally bought into it. As always, Conroy Catering put out a fantastic spread at a recent holiday party. Hors d' oeuvres included spicy quesadilla slivers, curried shrimp salad, mini crabcakes and a fabulous sushi presentation. Dinner consisted of three stations; Creole, Italian and American. I didn't even hit up all three, going straight for the filet, green beans and scalloped potatoes at the American station and supplementing with some Caesar salad, gourmet cheeses and assorted charcuterie from the Italian station. While the desserts looked fantastic, I instead opted for a cup of coffee topped with fresh whipped cream... and Jameson. I highly recommend Knowlton Mansion and Conroy Catering for any large scale event for a lovely experience that will leave a lasting impression. read more

You could eat off the floor - literally - that was my initial reaction when I went to fetch a pail of ice. There were a handful of restaurants there but CONROY CATERING was the best. Absolutely stunning grounds and an ideal place to hold a wedding or reception. We went to our friends' wedding here, and we came away impressed with the property and its versatility. So, everything about Knowlton Mansion is five stars except the employees. They are in a huge rush and, frankly, quite rude. Twice, I needed to get an employee's attention for a pressing matter. One, the men's bathroom was completely out of paper towels. And two, a drink had been dropped, and glass had been shattered on the dance floor. Both times, employees walked right by me as I attempted to get their attention (including one time, even tapping one of them on the shoulder...she still walked right by). Luckily, I was able to get someone else's attention, but you simply should not treat your patrons this way. read more

My mother in law wrote this to The Knowlton Mansion after a recent bridal shower. The atmosphere is nice but that was about it- see below. Seems like they are more about the cost savings. Glad I didn't have my wedding here - First of all, the food was just fair at best. The turkey sausage looked like it was parboiled, certainly not grilled or roasted. It just looked uncooked, even though I know it wasn't. Very unappetizing. The salad disappeared quickly and people were afraid to take more because it seemed like that would be it. The grilled veggies didn't taste so good either. The quiche was very thin and somewhat watery. But most of all I was shocked that your facility would serve anything at all on styrofoam plates! I don't even use them at home with pizza. I could not believe it. I was surprised that at least pitchers of water were not on the table. And who would know that there was iced tea, lemonade or sparkling cider offered? No one at our party. Was it a secret? I only realized that after just looking at the menu now. For the money it cost me, I am extremely disappointed and honestly, the only thing Knowlton Mansion has, - is the mansion itself. And interestingly, we originally had wanted the wedding reception there, I'm so glad we decided on somewhere else! read more

I just attended a friend's wedding at Knowlton and was very impressed overall with the property. I have attended more than 20 weddings in the past five years, and this property goes down as one of the nicest. First, the property's address is not where the entrance is. It is on a corner and the entrance is on the other street. They would benefit from a much larger sign closer to the road. The valet parking was a nice touch. The mansion itself is from the 1800s and much of the original woodwork, windows and charm is present. When we entered (30 minutes before the ceremony was to begin) there was no one there to greet us, so we waited a bit along with other guests. A woman finally appeared and offered to take coats. She took one guests and came back and I handed her mine, and she asked "Would you like me to take yours too?" Um, yes, you just offered didn't you? In any event we were directed to an area that I would best call the atrium where the ceremony was to be held. It was raining that day or I am sure it would have been held outside in the lovely English-styled gardens. No matter, the inside was just as nice. Having an attractive indoor, as well as outdoor setting at a wedding venue is absolutely vital. After the ceremony we were directed back upstairs for cocktail hour while we waited for the reception to be set up. The food was absolutely delicious, seriously some of the best mac and cheese I ever had (it had bacon in it!) but my husband noted they could have done a better job of taking away used glasses and plates. One negative of the property itself is that there were several stairs between the upper and lower level and I noticed elderly people had a very tough time with them. If the weather had been nicer this would not have been a big of a deal as there were lovely paved walkways outside that gradually sloped with access to both levels. Guests really crowded the upstairs area - around the bar they saw - not realizing there was a much larger bar in the atrium area. I think some of the crowding had to do with the stairs. The event staff tried their best to herd people downstairs but to no avail. Oh well. Anyway, everyone finally meandered downstairs and to their seats in the ballroom. Clearly an addition to the original property the ballroom was a beautiful space with vaulted ceilings that was simple and elegant - not overdone like you see at a lot of hotels. It had beautiful woodwork slats in the ceiling - really nice. It blended perfectly with the original house. Dinner was served buffet style, but it was a nice manned buffet, with staff present who quickly cleaned, cleared and replenished items. A carving station was there as well. Staff was knowledgeable about the food and pleasant. And the food was excellent. The offering was a nice departure from the typical chicken and side dish. (Again, been to a lot of weddings.) Carved flank steak, Mediterranean style clams, homemade cheese pasta purses. All delicious. Staff was quick to pick up dishes during dinner. Only two minor complaints were I wish they had a water person walking around during dinner - we had to go up to the bar to get more. The other was that the dish cleaners were a bit over zealous and took my drink away three times. At the end of the night, the staff picked up things in an appropriate manner, where as a guest I did not feed disturbed or rushed, something that happened more often than not at most weddings. Only miss-step there is a guy walked through the reception with a wet mop 15 minutes before it was to end - you couldn't wait 15 minutes buddy? When we left when the reception ended - no surprise here - coat check lady no where to be found. We wandered and found our coats ourselves. Overall beautiful, unique property, some of the best wedding food I have had, and for the most part pleasant on the ball staff. We had our wedding at the Knowlton Mansion last month and we can't say enough good things about Conroy Catering and the mansion itself. We loved how different and unique the space would be for a wedding, and not only is the space beautiful, but the food is excellent too. I was so happy with our hors d'oeuvres, the entrees, our cake--yes, the cake is included too. Usually wedding food and cake can be bad and I really wasn't expecting much there, but our food and the cake were excellent. (One recommendation if you do have your wedding here: Schedule your food tasting in the same season as your wedding. We made the mistake of doing the food tasting in the summer and realized a lot of the things we ate wouldn't be available in the winter.) We also added on the wine cellar option and it was a big hit. So many of our guests came up to us afterwards and said how much they loved it, and since we had our wedding during the holidays, everything was already decorated for Christmas, so that was a huge plus and added so much to the room. We basically just had to bring in centerpieces for the tables. The staff at Conroy Catering is great to work with too. They answered all my emails/calls right away and were helpful throughout the whole process. On the actual day, our event manager and the servers definitely made sure we were taken care of. They made sure to bring us hors d'oeuvres while we had photos taken during the cocktail hour and just did a great job the whole night. In addition to the Knowlton, they also operate out of Glen Foerd Mansion and Laurita Winery in NJ, which are also both beautiful venues. I can't thank them enough! I can't say enough good things about this venue! I had my ceremony and reception here on 5/16/15 and it was magical. Jeannie was the manager who made sure everything went smoothly all day long. We had a bridal assistant named Dee who was the best! We never had an empty drink in our hands and she made sure we got to try all of the food which was delicious. I am still hearing compliments about the food and the service. The grounds were beautiful and they mansion felt like a fairytale. I worked with Lori to plan everything and that was such a pleasant experience. She was quick to respond when I had questions and was always so sweet. I have not one negative thing to say. This place was beautiful. I was there for a brunch wedding reception and enjoyed it. The food was tasty. Good beer options for the open bar. I liked the historical character of the building. If I had to point out something not so great it would be that the servers were a bit pushy. They kept trying to clear plates from people while they were still eating. I think it was because they were in a hurry to get us through and set up for another wedding being held right after ours. My wife and I got married here about a month ago. I really thought that planning a wedding was going to be an unpleasant experience, but they made it a breeze... Great looking venue, easy to work/communicate with, and all of our guests said that the food was fantastic. We also got lots of compliments about the venue itself. Having a "day of" staff is something that we would not have thought we needed, but having Eileen and Danielle help us out throughout the day was awesome. Beautiful space both inside and outside with a nice touch of history. Despite being situated on a busy road the mansion was tucked back enough that it was quiet and felt like you were a million miles away from civilization. So why three stars? Well the food left much to be desired. Standard appetizer selections but they were good. Dinner selections were bland, cold, and my chicken was completely raw. Drinks were on the weak side and for some reason they don't allow the bartenders to give out straws. Not cool for someone with sensitive teeth! Ok that may be a slight overstatement, but seriously...that mansion was headed for any number of fates like more crap housing or, gasp...an apartment. I attended a wedding reception here on August 11th. We've been to four weddings so far this year - all within the past two months - so I think I have a good base for comparing & commenting. For history buffs like me...this was among the best wedding venues I've been to. It reminded me of the Asa Packer Mansion (tours only) in Jim Thorpe, and my only wish was that I had more time to tour the entire facility. From the valet service at the front door through closing time, the quality of the waitstaff's service and the quality of the food served was definitely worthy of my 5-star rating. My only recommendation would be to NOT remove drinks from tables during the evening if the glasses are more than half full. Chances are the guests are on the floor dancing and will return looking for their glass. Observed this happening at our table several times. Overall, our family of 6 adults had a great time with especially favorable comments about the hors d'oeuvres and dinner. Hope I get a chance to tour the entire Mansion at some point in the future. read more

Knowlton Mansion hosted our May 2013 wedding. Overall, the event was great. The space is beautiful, the staff is easy to work with, and the food is very good for catered wedding food. The pros, in no particular order: While were hoping to have our ceremony in their outdoor space, the weather had a different idea, and their inside ceremony space turned out to be very nice. We never thought twice about it, and if you're worried about how the photos will look, ours turned out very good. The food was very good, especially for catered wedding food. Our menu had the Salmon, NY Sirloin, and vegetarian stuffed pepper. We personally at the Salmon and Sirloin, and both were good. The Sirloin was even a little pink (again, good for catering cooking!). The venue lets guests walk throughout the house during the cocktail hour, and that worked out really well in that the guests actually spread out and checked out the place. They'll set up your own decorations, in our case family pictures, and pack them up for you at the end of the evening. The wine cellar is also a very neat feature, and our guests loved it (when we went down to check it out, the place was packed!). The Cons: It's far from Center City. We based our guests in Center City, and with unexpected traffic, it took the buses forever to get there. Also, and perhaps because things started late due to delays with the buses, we noticed that some of the transitions weren't as crisp as we had hoped for. It took longer than expected to get everyone seated for our entrance, for example, and the little delays kind of trickled through the evening. Overall, though, we really liked the space and folks we were working with. read more

This is a follow up to my review of Conroy Catering, which works at this facility. I feel lucky I didn't work with them. My fiance & I toured their grounds to potentially hold a wedding reception at their facility. Generally we thought the mansion was nice although the surrounding area is under construction and frankly, I felt uncomfortable having my family in a hotel locally (and keep in mind locally is 15 minutes away, easily). We asked for a draft contract to review the details (Friday afternoon) for a particular date and called to book that Monday morning, at which point we were told they had another party scheduled. Needless to say, after an exhausting and frustrating conversation with the management team they were "unwilling to budge on their policy". Their management team was completely unsympathetic and unhelpful to the point that I felt grateful that we hadn't spent money with them. If they were that willing to treat us poorly prior to booking, I can't imagine what things would have been like on the big day. The food was decent but I'd really reconsider spending big money with them. After tax and gratuity are added in it's costly for a large party and the added headache of the management= absolutely not worth it. read more

I attended a friend's wedding at Knowlton this spring. As others have mentioned, the venue and grounds are beautiful and a great backdrop for any wedding or celebration. I was very impressed by the food during the cocktail hour, the food during the dinner was not as special but was still fine. The main problem with this venue is the staff. Champagne was poured at the beginning of dinner for all the guests, but most people waited to drink it since we thought there would be a toast. There was no toast, and the wait staff cleared all the full glasses of champagne at the end of dinner. They also cleared all the water glasses and the end of dinner, even though there was still dessert and dancing for at least an hour. There was some confusion with the seating arrangements, resulting in eleven people being assigned to our ten-top table. We asked a few different staff for an extra chair and place setting, a couple of whom just walked away and never came back with a response. One of the more senior employees told us that there was no way to seat eleven at the table, but didn't give any solution. This left us with an awkward situation, especially since all of the guests at the table didn't know each other. Eventually, one of the wedding guests went and found an extra chair from another part of the venue, which fit at the table just fine. We never did get the extra place setting or silverware so one couple ended up sharing a fork. Even worse was that they brought the problem to the bride, who shouldn't have had to worry about seating arrangements during her own wedding reception. Although the venue was beautiful, the staff's unresponsiveness put a damper on our evening. read more

I had my wedding at Knowlton. Overall I loved everything. I've been to many weddings in the Philadelphia area, and Knowlton is still, hands down, the most beautiful and unique venue that I've ever been to. There really isn't anything else quite like it. My wedding was on Halloween, and my menu included: tomato soup cups with grilled cheese dippers during cocktail hour (in addition to many other things), for dinner we had food stations with salmon, steak, pasta, turkey. Pumpkin Martinis, Pumpkin Cheesecake, Pumpkin Pie, apple cobbler. Lots of unique wines to taste in the amazing amazing amazing wine cellar... it was truly a spectacular event. Being a bride, of course, there would be a few things that I would go back and do differently, but I wouldn't change anything about my food/menu or the decision to have it at Knowlton. The only thing I would change is making sure I took more time the night of the event to really savor and enjoy everything. It all goes by so fast! read more

Knowlton Mansion is the perfect place for any important event, formal or otherwise. The structure itself is such a beautiful house that it needs little else to make it shine. The gardens are exquisite and lovingly maintained. However, , the mansion and gardens would not make the event alone without the fantastic staff. Our event coordinator, Jeannie, could not have been more helpful before or during our wedding. She anticipated our every need and quelled some last minutes concerns. The wait staff was pleasant, friendly and helpful. By the end of the evening all we had to do was drive away with our van loaded and the keyes handed to us. The food by Conroy Catering was delicious, plentiful and hot. My guests raved and the hors d'oeuvres were tasty and never ending. we attended a wedding and reception held here last Saturday. we were guests so I am unable to comment on the dollar value, but what I can say is the the wedding and reception were amazing the food was delicious the service was fantastic from start to finish. the hors d'oeuvres were plentiful with a nice assortment, the small bite chicken and waffles were a nice addition,assorted pastas that we could plate and two open bars kept things flowing nice and smooth, there was plenty of space both indoor and out to gather.the entrees were prepared and served beautifully. the deserts were the small bite style, there was many choices and all were very good, the wedding cake was beautiful and delicious with each layer having different filling the salted caramel was exceptionally good. Our grandaughter received her Holy Communion this past Saturday and her parents had a celebration party at Knowlton Mansion. Everything about the day was wonderful. The mansion, with the addition of the glass enclosed conservatory, is beautiful. The grounds are magnificent (be sure to look at the magnificent Copper Beach Tree-WOW!) and the wait staff could not have been more pleasant and attentive. Needless to say the food was superb. If there would be one negative to the day, it was that the music was a little too loud. That could be taken care of easily. Our daughter is getting married in the Fall and if we lived a little closer to Knowlton Mansion, I would encourage her to have her reception there. Rosemary F. read more

highly recommend!!! best food and service! my sister had her wedding here first ..i was totally impressed so of course i had my wedding ceremony and reception here too and they made my day go so beautifully even when the weather got really bad they quickly made sure that it wouldn't affect a thing ..such professionalism...so glad I choose this place ..some people think it's pricey but it was worth every penny.. people still talk about it .. I hope to go back again for another wedding so I can enjoy this place again.. anyone who asks where to have a wedding I always tell em knowlton!! read more
