My wife found this awesome little hobby shop last night while hanging out with a couple of friends, and when she came home and told me about it, we ended up going back together the next day. I'm into all things nerdy, especially anime and GUNPLA, so I grabbed an SD model kit and a Thousand Sunny Bandai kit from One Piece. They've also got individual actual Pokémon, One Piece, Magic decks, and individual cards in binders for sale (at least for Pokémon, I'm unsure of the other cards games.) They had some Anime models, Manga, a bunch of stickers, different types of dice (for tabletop gaming), plushies, some older video game stuff, and I think there were Warhammer model kits. It's a small local shop, so prices are a little bit higher than what you'd see at big box stores. BUT you're supporting a local business, and that's always really worth it. There are some game rooms in the back where people can play tabletop stuff like board games or Dungeons & Dragons. They've got a bathroom (I didn't check it out), plus a little section with snacks and sodas to indulge if you get hungry while you're there playing. Big shoutout to the guy behind the counter. He was super cool to my wife and her friends last night, and even more so when we came back today. I watched him today helping other customers too. They have a huge selection of action figures, statues, used video games, retro video games, and, of course, comics. The comic room has a ton of back issues, organized primarily by publisher--Marvel, DC, and independent. There are also several random long boxes without labels, along with a table containing several boxes labeled "Keys." There were also 3-4 short boxes of "key issues" scattered around the checkout counter. Fair warning: these boxes aren't particularly organized. Saying they're "loosely alphabetized" would probably be giving them too much credit. That said, if you enjoy digging through boxes looking for hidden gems, this can be a fun place to treasure hunt--as long as you have the time and patience. I'm a Spawn collector, and the designated Spawn section only had a handful of issues. However, I ended up finding several more Spawn issues scattered throughout the "Key" boxes on the table in the back. I even found more in the "Key" boxes at the checkout counter. I think consolidating all of these boxes into one organized area would make the shopping experience much better. It's fun finding unexpected issues, but when you're specifically hunting for something, it can be frustrating when the boxes aren't organized or alphabetized. As for pricing, the comics are generally priced fairly. Some of the variants and key issues are priced a bit on the high side, though, so it's worth knowing your values before making a purchase. The back room also has a free-to-play arcade cabinet, which is a nice bonus and adds to the retro vibe. The staff was nice and very helpful, which made the visit even better. Overall, this is a great spot for collectors who enjoy the treasure-hunt experience. If you have some time to spend digging through boxes, you never know what you might uncover. By the end of our visit we had to pick up some items to help build up my pre-schooler's budding Pokemon collection and something for big sis too. Gateway literally has just about everything the comic or toy collector would desire. Staff were excellent during our visit and were very helpful. The selection is extensive of new and retro Star Trek, Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Masters of the Universe toys. Some items are kept behind counters and glass cases. Loose figurines are available without original packaging. Pop Vinyl selection was large. If they don't have the item you're looking for, other stores will not have it either. They don't do much with video games, however. What is preventing me from ending this review with five stars? Prices at Gateway Comics and Toys are top dollar and almost all items are priced well above market. The comic book section was also unusual. The new pull selection was huge, but I was having trouble following their organizational system. Dollar books were rough even for dollar books. Long boxes with books priced at $3 and back issues priced as marked were above market. They also have graphic novels and wall books are kept behind the front counter. Would I tell you come here? Absolutely. This place is an experience with the only comparable store I've seen being a New Dimension Comics location in Western Pennsylvania. They have more than some small comic/toy shows. You however are going to pay top dollar here.
