I visited Michael's yesterday (09/22/2024) and was treated rudely by an employee ( name was Ching). She approached me while I stood in line and asked if I was using a credit card. When I replied yes, she ushered me to self check out. I explained I do not like self check out. She reluctantly began checking me out. I told her I had a coupon code and she interrupted me in a demeaning fashion & told me "We don't take coupons anymore!", She was hateful, rude and abrupt! Popped into this Michaels looking for some late Halloween decorations and perhaps some for Thanksgiving. A few days before the end of the month, the very few remaining items were marked down 70% which was nice. But the main focus in this part of the store is on Christmas decorations. So clearly, plan ahead. Pick up what you need and store it for next year. A was also able to look at the framing section and their prices aren't too much out of whack considering that it's ready very quickly. Especially when you need an odd size like 15 by 35. I'm not a crafter or a scrapbooker, so I couldn't really tell you if those sections are particularly enthralling. read more

I just wish someone was in the store helping me locate what I needed. My cashier was friendly and I did a whole lap around the store but finally found what I came for. The sale items are clearly marked. Join the rewards program so you get coupons and $$$$ off as you spend more in store. read more

This Michaels in Rivergate is pretty cool compared to the others in the Charlotte area. It is "newer" and I bet they had a part in planning the construction of the store since there's a craft room for classes located in the front.... glass windows and everything. The registers also seem carefully planned with one common line, instead of the normal panic you go into as far as choosing which register is faster at a normal Michael's location. Probably the only downside is that the location is on one end of the Rivergate shopping center so it took some hunting..... I knew it was there, but it was just a matter of navigating the parking lot (no easy task) to get there. Not sure if this location has seen a lot of change in seasons yet, but the floors and everything were pretty spotless. Not that your craft supplies need to come from a clean, sanitary standpoint, but it's nice to be clean and organized to begin with. read more

I have lived over in the area for a few years and frequent this Michael's as I am a baker. Sometimes 2-3 trips a day to get baking needs for orders, packaging, etc. As regularly as I am in this store you would think I would not experience this same interaction with the same few individuals. The younger teen staff are extremely engaging, nice and have great customer service. It is some of the older staff. You may call it an eager helper or a hovering employee. Upon entering I was greeted as usual. Over 6 times I was asked did I need help or find what I am looking for. Now again while it sounds helpful I am aware of energy and intent. I was followed every aisle between 3 older employees. Upon check out 3 employees stood by the front and registers just for little ole me to check out. Then an employee stood beside me and bagged and watch each item for me at the SELF checkout. Again while this has been done on busier days where staff will assist to speed the line up, for a single customer with less than 15 items I beg to differ. Also being in the store over 30 minutes not seeing any other customer receive this personal check out experience it felt isolated. I have had this experience a few times with this location. This time having my partner with me to witness what I speak about every time I return when these few work. Overall great store with a youthful bright few. Great selections. Flower section is a little sparse but the baking department is great when it's stocked. read more

I came to Michaels in Rivergate recently to get a painting (painted by my daughter) framed. Tiffany was working and helped me design the frame and the glass type. I was so impressed with her talent, helpfulness, and calm professionalism. I picked up the framed painting tonight. She was working at the table (5;45 pm on Sunday). This store is awful. The staff are never friendly or helpful at this location, it makes me not want to even go in. There have been occasions where they've been downright rude. Today I ordered a curbside order and they didn't give me the correct item. Luckily, customer service resolved the concern with no problem; however, I've emailed numerous complaints about this location and never received a response before. The store is usually dirty and disorganized. If you have a choice, drive over to the park road location, it is MUCH better. read more

I loves Michael. Yet I'm not a scrapbook expert or very crafty. I'm glad they finally open one near my home. This place is a hit or miss. They have good stuffs but very limited. However, I went 2 weeks ago and wanted something to hold my seem like thousand of makeup brushes. Unfortunately the one they had on the shelf is broken. Since it's more than 70% off they mention it have it ship to the house. Which I did. I was very annoyed when I received in the mail that it's completely NOT what I ordered. Didn't have a chance to take it back until today. And the sale is over. Michael staffs was very nice and priced what I wanted to the sale price 2 weeks ago. I'm happy. Even tho items can be limited. Staffs make things better by helping and very tentative. Nice to see so far no high turnover. I recognize some of the same staffs. Will definitely be back! read more

Do not order same day pickup from this location, order was not ready after 3 hours and when I did get "order ready" email, it gave me the option to do "Curbside pickup " I selected, gave number of spot I was in, it gave me a barcode stating someone was on the way, to show barcode. Waited 15 mins no one shows up, calls into store, Rep says "oh we don't do Curbside after 6pm" 1st off it was still daylight and I should have never been given option. System needs to be tweaked ,not very accommodating for those that work during the day between 8-6pm read more

If you are a crafty person or simply want to take a stab at a DIY project, this is the place to be. They have anything anyone could think of for crafting. They have so much of it, it can be overwhelming. Although they do have some signs, more would be better assisting the customer to find the items they need/want. But maybe this is their way of making you go aisle by aisle in hopes you will see other items you did not know you needed/wanted and toss them into your cart. The few times I have been here, I had to go to the front of the store to find someone to assist me and then I was made to feel like I was bothering them. I suggest they have a couple of staff walk the floor to provide assistance if needed. Come with a plan. If not, you will either buy things you do not really need and will never use OR you will walk out with nothing because it was simply too overwhelming. I have done both! Lol read more

My favorite location! This Michaels is newer, puts all others to shame. Looks like they've upgraded the fixtures and a few other things. So here's my story. I'm a former employee of Michaels Arts & Craft. Worked at the Mayfair location in Wilmington in 2007---Highschool Days---Dear Jesus I don't miss working in retail! Sales: There's Always a sale at Michaels. You have to move fast, theses customers are vicious. My item of choice is ribbon-- Lots and Lots of Ribbon. I have a million colors. Priced between 50 to 98 cents. You can't beat it. I've never had a bad experience here. The Michaels Staff is top notch--I always forget about their coupons--which they will give you at checkout. I've been meaning to takes one of their monthly classes. Maybe I'll do this after my wedding. Nothing wrong with adopting a new hobby. read more

I've been to this particular Michael's now a few times so I feel I can properly give an opinion on it. Generally speaking I end up coming in for fake flowers in the fall to make wreaths or some other Autumn craftiness my friends and I decide to make. Their selection is usually pretty good. Not as large as some other locations but the quality is there. Yesterday I went in looking for some ink pads and photopolymer stamps. The selection in store was pretty grim. My guess is they don't have much of an audience for it. That being said I was able to get in and out with only what I needed and no going overboard so my wallet can respect that lol. I was very tempted by their planner section as there were many. However I stayed strong and walked away. All in all the staff is nice, the store is clean and organized, and it's in a convenient location. So solid 4 stars... a full 5 stars would have to see them upping their selections! read more
