This was our first time at the salon. She rushed through doing both of my kids, passed them off to someone else in the salon to dry their hair all the while saying she is running behind. Mind you, we came 20 minutes early to our appointment and she took us right away. I began having my hair colored and styled by Michael in June 2020, and have been very happy with all twelve visits to date. He takes time to consult with clients, provides great suggestions, and color is always fabulous. He did a fantastic job when I had a shorter technical cut, and has also kept me looking great during transition to a longer style. I have been having my hair styled by Jessica for several months now and am extremely pleased. The color and cut are always perfect. I have fine hair that is challenging to deal with and Jessica always has good ideas to improve the situation. My blonde highlights always look natural and I receive lots of compliments. I would highly recommend Jessica. The salon itself is very nice and currently undergoing renovations which look awesome. Everyone there is extremely friendly and eager to make you feel comfortable and offer refreshments. I usually get a cut and go home to restyle it. But...I found Mary thanks to another Yelp review and she is GOOD! I had my haircut there by the owner's wife. Fantastic. When I went back she didn't recall how she did it. I never had the same cut again. Had my hair colored by the owner who showed me a video of a full length model to choose my hair color. No color swatches. It was too dark. Had my hair colored by another stylist. Told her I wanted more red in it. No color swatches were shown. She put in fushia. I just stared at it. I should have said something. After someone told me my hair matched my pink shirt, I stopped going. I went to another salon. Manager showed me color swatch board. He said he would never use video to choose a color. I don't want to give this place a one because I don't think they are incompetent. We had a communication problem I couldn't overcome. read more

Jessie had the honor of artfully providing a first haircut to a very special young lady in my life! Some places refused to entertain the idea of cutting a 3- 1/2 year old's hair. Not Jessie. She embraced the challenge and we put our trust in her with good reason. Jessie greeted Ava and we all followed like ducks in a row. Being too small for the hair wash basin, Jessie used the spray bottle to saturate Ava's hair, smiling and chatting with Ava, like right out of a movie. Of course Ava was darling and taking it all in as she followed directions of head down, look this way, that way, etc. A great match in stylist and client this Saturday morning, a memorable time was had by us for sure. Ava was asked to stand for the final check of the back, the hair was finessed one last time before the blow dryer was summoned from overhead. Lastly, the cape was removed, and Ava was escorted to the full mirror for a look-see. The smile said it all. A visit to the Tootsie Pop bowl wrapped up the first-ever pre-school haircut. read more

As a brand new customer I was so pleased and comforted when I walked in Michael the Salon and watched staff sanitizing the front desk, entrance door, including door handles, even the bottle of sanitizer got sanitized. Everybody was wearing masks and there were signs all over about keeping 6 foot distance, masks required and "This area is disinfected regularly, your safety is our priority". Seating is well spaced out. On top of that I got an excellent haircut by Michael which I was really pleased with and all the staff were incredibly friendly and happy. They genuinely seemed like they all really liked each other and got along. It was an incredibly comfortable experience. I absolutely love this salon... I originally came here upon recommendation of a friend and due to some.... um, not so great circumstances. You see, I have a friend who I let cut my hair. The first time, it was amazing... the second time, we don't know what happened. Anyway, I let it grow out for a couple months and then came here. First off, the stylists are super nice. Mary, was the original stylist that saw me the first time I came here and she was lovely. They usually seat you and then ask you what you would like done with your hair or what ideas you may have for it. Well... I explained my situation and she was super sympathetic - I showed her what was going on with my hair and she also "went through it" as well to see what was going on. Then she suggested a few things we could do. We went through the usual process of washing it, then going through with the cut. She evened it out as best as she could, but it was going to take another 2/3 appointments before it was back to normal. Needless to say though, as I left that day... I felt MUCH better - although my hair was shorter :( but it had to be done. She was really great the whole time and made sure I was okay with what she was doing, as she was doing it. The second time I came back, I believe Kristin took care of me. She was equally as nice as I explained what was previously done and she expertly continued the process of what Mary had started 6 weeks prior to even it out. The third time, we did another cut and an additional color. Again, great job and my hair FINALLY was looking normal again and full. It is nice to come to this salon and know that they are going to do a great job every time and are efficient. I really don't like when I would go to other places and the hair dresser is constantly jumping around from client to client while you sit waiting. Everyone here is great! Obviously if you get a color done, they are going to do something else while you need to sit, but once that is done - they get right to work and focus on you. Which is nice. I love this place and have come back a few times since my original visits for trims and colors. The prices are pretty typical for what salons charge and definitely worth it. Needless to say, I will definitely keep coming here and recommend them for years to come. read more

Professional and qualified!! I have been going to Michael the Salon for over 4 years. Each time they give me the cut, color or style I am looking for. I have gone from long hair to a bob and back again. Just show them a photo and they can do it. Everyone is so nice. Sue is my stylist but when she was out Paulette took great care of me. Even stylists who have never worked with me know my name. Like Kristen who always has a smile on her face and I have seen her makeup work and it is fantastic. I LOVE Michael the Salon. I have seen a few different stylists and have always gotten an amazing haircut. They are so nice here, when you arrive they offer you something to drink, give great haircuts, and I think for a very reasonable price. I know they also do ongoing professional development which is great. Sadly, I no longer live in the area (I'm 2.5 hours away now) and I have seriously considered driving back for a weekend for a haircut after receiving not so great haircuts where I am now. I've been going for years, first for student cuts in high school and college and now as an adult, and always have a great experience! I finally had my first cut in 6 months in August, so I can speak on COVID safety. They took my temperature right when I entered, which I loved. The salon capacity was very limited, plus the salon is already large, airy, and very clean, so I felt very safe. They're super fast too so I was in and out in under 20 mins (minimal interaction !!) Definitely not recommended for curly girls! I'm giving them three stars is that I did call last minute for an appointment and was immediately accommodated - fantastic and the color was great. I did get some wonderful highlights (which I absolutely love!) The color matches my curls nicely. Now the haircut itself - I have different curl patterns through my head, it's not the easiest to cut. It's typically straighter towards the back, and curly/wavy moving towards my temple. I did receive a slight trim with layers added, but it did not translate well once my hair was no longer straightened. The soft, subtle layers now have 4-5 inches giving me a triangle effect. I would recommend this place for color. read more

Okey dokey - after going to see Mary numerous times since I first writing this review, I am very happy to say she does a consistently EXCELLENT job cuttin' and stylin' my hair (OH YEAH!) - even better than the woman I saw before! I forget about Yelp, but the last time I went in I was informed my (crackhead-ish) review helped a couple other curly headed women find her - ya'll know what a nightmrae it is finding a decent stylist! I tells it like I see it! Only one stylist better than Mary - and she was...well, an artist, let's just leave it at that =-) but back to Mary at Michael, you should give it a try. If you go and you hate your do, well, it's JUST HAIR! Hahaha - j/k (kind of) - I say that now, but I also know what it feels like to come out looking like you got a hair cut styled after a cross between Marge Simpson and an Oompa Loompah. read more

I love the treatment I receive when I go there. They are honest, genuine people. I also have never seen teamwork the way they provide it!! They side by your side and talk with you regarding your wants and ideas! I've never been to a place with so many nice and talented people. My daughter and I have been customers for over 3 years. My daughter was recently diagnosed with cancer. We went to Michael the Salon to get her long hair cut off to shoulder length so she could donate it. The stylists at Michael made it a great experience. A few weeks later, when her hair started falling out, I called to get her an appointment to get her hair shaved. I was told the price would be $35! I explained that we didn't need a shampoo, cut or style - just needed the hair shaved off. All I was told is that there was only one stylist available and the cost would be $35. I questioned why something that would only take a couple minutes would cost so much. I was told that someone else would call me back in a few minutes. I then received a call from Jennifer who only gave us a different time with another stylist who would do it for the student rate. This to me was ridiculous! I wasn't looking to have it done for free but really, how can they even justify charging $25 to shave the head of a cancer patient?! It's disgusting to me on so many levels! Luckily a good friend and cancer survivor called her salon and the owner welcomed us in and did it for free! We fought to give her a tip which she refused to accept. THAT'S how it should be done! And thanks to all the class and dignity they showed us, we will be going there from now on. Shame on you Michael the Salon!!! Apparently money is more important to you than your clients. They don't even deserve the one star I had to give them. I would never recommend this place!!! Terrible!!!! read more

Strange. Seems the review details the damage my stylist had done to my hair has vanished. It has been three months since I had my hair badly burned with a flat iron at this salon and it has not gotten any better. Yes, it has grown out somewhat, but what's done is done. Still, everyday I am just as upset about it. I find this kind of amateurish, to tell the truth. I would not recommend this salon. There are so many others to choose from in the area. Need to switch stylists because mine is moving to Florida . Looked up this salon and saw all the good reviews online, but when I saw the services menu and that Michael was charging more for a cut then his wife it turned me off as lady. In this day and age where we want equal pay it was very disheartening and horrible for her to work under that. No will give my dollars to an all female salon. read more
