Someone recommended I see Dr.Hirt after being on medication and seeing different doctors for over 2 years for an esophageal ulcer. It took a while to get an appointment, and his office was pretty far away, but I made the drive out. His approach was incredibly thorough, he was very good at explaining the causes and alternative therapies for my problem - without the need of higher doses of medications. I took some herbal supplements (I had never done that before) and met regularly with a nutritionist from his office (over the phone) who helped me improve my diet and health. Within 4 months my ulcer had healed, I was feeling much better (much more energetic) and I've never had any problems since (It's been 10 years!). I highly recommend him. I was recommended to Dr. Hirt by my neighbor. After some research, he seemed right up my alley. I called in, and after about a 3-5 minute hold time I was greeted by a very friendly and informative receptionist. What's unfortunate, however, is the waiting list for new patients, IE: ME. This is July, and I was told that I most likely wouldn't receive an appointment till after January. She also told me that people who had called in April didn't get appointments till December. Whaaaa?!? Unfortunately, my situation (as i'm sure most peoples) needs more immediate attention than that. I will gladly update my review if I ever manage to get in... We are so lucky to have a thorough, integrative, Board Certified in Nutritionist and medical doctor who can speak Dr. to Dr. with other more traditional health practitioners that may be a part of your team. Yes, there are often wait times. The best defense is bring a book or work, schedule when you aren't pressured for time, have patience knowing you will get great care. I wasted three weeks trying to see Dr. Hirt as a new patient with a current patient referral. I called FIVE times during that three weeks and was told each time someone would call me back the next day, only to NEVER receive ANY calls back. I'm a nurse and work for a big organization. I was miserable with stomach problems for five month, indigestion, severe gas and pain. I lost weight and looked sick. I was seeing two GI doctors from my organization that kept insisting I had IBS and kept giving me antianxiety medication and disregarding my suffering. I finally decided to see Dr. Hirt. He took the time to listen to my concerns and ordered several tests. He also recommended some supplements. I'm usually skeptical about taking lots of supplements so, i went home and did my research about each of the supplements and also read his supplements pamphlets. I was desperate and decided to follow his guidance with a combination of antibiotic after my test results came back and supplements. He got out of dealing with insurance plans. It's all cash now. Prices are doable, check the current price list. I think the prices are pretty fair, just the blood work could be expensive. Not sure how that goes. I have my HMO doctor do my bloodwork for my physical and take it with me when I go once/twice a year now. We discuss additional bloodwork during my visits. First off, anyone Who is having the problems that most of the people here are having shit contact the health department regarding the lax Covid restrictions, by having stuffed office space, too many people, and a Doctor Who downgrades Covid is not anything more than a cold. He should also be reported to the medical board. We can complain about the loose and goosy way of this office all we want but when you have a doctor that has so many people in the office at one time throughout the whole office area which is very large and then tells you the Covid is not anything worse than a cold there's a health department issue and there's also a medical licensing issue. Dr. Hirt Comes with really good papers going to find schools but unfortunately his work ends there. His office staff is inept, if he really knew how bad his office staff is to his clients you would think he would? His staff is so horrible you pay $250 to see this doctor and they can't even get your application together that was faxed over and they can't even get the referring doctors paperwork and blood work together so by the time the doctor sit down with you he has nothing in front of him! But I'll take your money when your blood work and you never get to talk to the doctor unless you wait weeks to find out what your blood work turned out like. You can have it read to you with millions of questions that the nurse can't respond to, but you have to make an appointment that are weeks out, and go to an office that is absolutely at full capacity with Covid explosion happening in our communities! People who go to this doctor are at their wits end suffering from ailments and hoping to get to answers to why they don't feel well and have the most well rounded care from an actual doctor and an alternative doctor at the same time is a good thing, if you have a Doctor Who is ethical that would be nice and this doctor is not. He needs to stop taking patients for at least a couple years did you see all those file folders up against their wall did you see how large that facility is on that floor and there's only one doctor you think he's giving us good care and hell no! So our only alternative is to report him to the medical board for lack of care. 1)The health department for putting everyone at risk to Covid, By having too many people in an office. 2)The attorney generals office for fraud, and I mean that fraud for taking people's money and not giving them a level of care almost non existent. 3) And the medical board for barely giving any care and asking people to shell out cash. They don't give you a piece of paper like they say they are when you first see them to give to your insurance company they don't give it so your insurance company is going to pay for an actual MD what kind of world is that! I feel pretty offended that Dr. Hirt would have someone call me, who didn't even give me her title (nurse, PA, MA, etc) to offer me $800 in additional tests that aren't covered by insurance. She also recommended me supplements of course. Let me back up though, to when I was making an appointment. I called once and was given some time slots that were available. I said, "Thank you, let me look at my schedule and call back". Then I called back to finalize the appointment and a different female said something like uh, no, that slot isn't open. Very adamant about it and gave me other times that I could come in. Then I called back based on the new times I was given and was told no, those aren't open but these other times are, including the ones that I was given the first time then told that they weren't available. It was beyond frustrating. The wait was very long to see the doctor. There is some type of quality assurance type woman there but she's not a very smiley, warm person. She did pop her head into the room while I was waiting to let me know the wait to see the doctor wouldn't be much longer, which it was. While talking to the doctor himself, I was hopeful that he might be able to find out what was going on with my body, in regards to my illness. I think he is well-mannered and comes across in a harmless manner which puts you at ease. However, after the phone call which I mentioned at the beginning of my review, I feel differently about the doctor and entire practice. When the person called me to talk to me about additional testing, she was trying to sell me on something that turned out to be applied kinesiology. Maybe my mind just isn't ready to accept this non-traditional type of treatment and when I Googled it, it was described as "pseudoscientific" "phony" and "bunk". I'll pass on visiting Dr. Hirt again. Dr. Hirt is the real deal. I've been suffering from miscellaneous ailments for years... I was seeking health from a Naturopathic Doctor who was throwing supplements at me much in the same way a traditional Doctor throws prescription pills to treat symptoms, but never willing to look closer and get down to underlying causes. By the time I found Dr. Hirt, I had been suffering for five years with chronic digestive issues, including SIBO and Candida, brain fog, forgetfulness, unexplained weight gain and difficulty losing weight, fatigue and loss of energy, and much more. Good doctor busy office. Unconventional which I love and follow. No problems with staff. However he recommended stem cell which I had wanted to do anyway. I do not know what happened but 2 months later and 4 thousand dollars out nothing. Hummm not blaming him of course just wondering why no results.???At least not yet. I'm sorry Dr. Hirt. You once had a wonderful staff of people. As a loyal patient for almost 20 years, you've guided me through illnesses and was always helpful through all my regular wellness checkups. Recently, there were more blips and bumps in dealing with the office management. I chose to believe it's just a "busy" office and maybe there's new people that need training, etc. The absolute last straw was the day of the Borderline Shooting. I live in the area and watching the news was gut wrenching. Everyone in this neighborhood lined up at the blood mobile and across the TV was a call for 0 negative blood. Rather than taking a flat of water or handing out sandwiches to the hundreds of people in line, I thought since I've had lots of blood work done through the years at Dr. Hirt's office, I'll make the call to get my blood type and if it's 0 negative, I'll run to the blood mobile. After giving my name and explaining why I needed this information, I was put on hold. The woman returned to the phone and said, "We don't have that information. You have to pay for that out of pocket." I can't express enough how shocked I was. I remember stuttering something like, "But I, I've had so many blood tests, I...I..." She repeated, "You have to pay for that out of pocket." I wish I could talk with the doctor about this heartbreaking moment. Dr. Hirt is truly knowledgeable and supports my belief in integrative medicine care. My sadness is that this new staff really doesn't care, or they are just too busy to care. My husband and I were both very sick and unable to find a doctor who had the knowledge, skill or compassion to get to the root of our ailments. I love Dr. Hirt! 5 Stars all the way! :) First and foremost, from the time you first call, you will be on a waiting list from 6-12 months. He closes his books and occasionally opens them up for new clients. That alone says something. Secondly, he is the best doctor I've been to. On my first appointment, I had a physical where they did everything from checking my lungs, heart, blood, vitamin levels, etc. I had an in-depth consultation with the doctor, and was amazed by his intelligence. Most doctors try to provide a quick fix, he does not. He truly wants to learn about my concerns so that we can work on solutions to fix them. Dr. Hirt prescribes medication when needed, but he tries to use herbal remedies whenever possible to avoid reliance on prescription drugs. His nutritional background and knowledge of herbal supplements combined with his medical knowledge make him one amazing doctor. Once your in the office, you can get an appointment usually a few weeks out, but he's always there if you need an emergency. He has a very large group of staff who is there to help you as well. I love Kim the head nurse(such a sweetheart), and another manager (who always tells me how much she loves my engagement ring), and many of his other staff. They are all so helpful and kind. Out of his 18+ staff, I've had so many pleasant interactions, I've only had one bad interaction with Susan, the billing lady, when she didn't return my phone calls and made an error in billing, but that's okay because we're all human and the rest of the staff is amazing. They truly make me happy to be a patient, and I will continue to be a patient of Dr. Hirt for years to come. I've recommended him to family and friends, and am so happy with all the advice he has given me. I'm a rather healthy person, but we all have areas of opportunity to work on, and he has helped me manage my chronic back pain and migraines. Dr. Hirt has worked miracles. I have been constipated since birth, hypothalamic amenorrhea, low energy, brain fog. Dr. Hirt found that my Epstein Barr virus was active. He mixed conventional and alternative medicine to treat me. In 5 weeks I have noticed a dramatic difference in my energy level and constipation. I am hopeful that my period is on its way back. He also already has me weaning off some of the supplements which is nice to have a doctor that doesn't keep you on things forever. He specifically identified one issue and treatment plan years ago, and then again identified another potentially serious issue wherein he provided referral and I was able to seek review and treatment from a specialist. I did not feel the same level of review from other doctors. I went to Dr. Hirt because I have been having fatigue and neurological problems since my trip in asia last year where I got sick. When I saw him he did a series of blood tests (most of which were done by a separate doctor which he failed to take the time to look at) and told me I most likely have "bugs". After not hearing from him for 2 weeks I call them and they said you need to do two additional tests a "Thermography" test where they take your body temperature at different points and an "ART" test where a nurse holds your leg, than Dr. Hirt holds her hand and pushes while waving different items around your body. Should have stopped here lol. Anyway he says I have parasites based on this test which I can still find no scientific evidennce of and he failed to take the time to explain to me why and recommended his Ozone treatments ($150/session) and about $300 worth of supplements that he manufactures (can you say mark ups?). He gave me parasite meds as well. I started the Ozone treatments and would get extremely nauseated and depressed after each on for a few days and was miserable. When i told them about it they said it was impossible for it to affect your stomach and to stick coffee up my butt (coffee enema) to relieve the die off (still have no definitive diagnosis). He just told me to up the treatments and when I did I got even more sick and couldn't get out of bed for 7 days. When I called and asked, they again said "Just do a coffee enema"....... This is where I drew the line, as I want to get better, but this stuff is killing me. Pretty much all of the patients I met there who were doing the IV treatments were not getting any better and the waiting room was usually filled with sales reps as the Dr. was usually too busy with those meetings (how to make more money) than actually tending to patients who had concerns. Overall my experience is borderline medical malpractice and Dr. Hirt's complete disregard for patient's negative reactions patients experience combined with his methods of recommending tons his homeade supplements in high amounts and IV treatments leaves patients sick, but still spending a ton of money. This doctor is "top notch". You won't find a better primary care physician in LA, I am sure. He incorporates eastern and western medicine alike. His Harvard education plus his expertise in nutrition will cure what ails you. You may wait a few months for the first appointment but after that, it is no problem getting in to see him. I have seen him for emergencies as well and he will stay as long as he needs to fix your problem. He calls you when you are really sick, and has a professional staff to fill in if need be. He doesn't push his brand of pills, but over the years I have realized that his brand is also the best quality. His red yeast rice works better than others I have tried as well as green tea extract, which strips out the caffeine. Other brands don't do that. His goal is to keep you off pharmaceutical drugs as long as he can but obviously there are times when one needs them. He is not arrogant as some doctors are and will listen to you. I make a list of questions each time I go to see him. He tests you for more than the standard tests, like vitamin deficiencies. As a result my family no longer gets colds, or flu. Dr. Hirt is a fine doctor, worth seeing, especially if you have issues that weren't resolved with other doctors. He has a problem with staff however. I have not been a patient for two years, just not convenient, however the office apparently does not check records carefully and continually calls me to remind me of appointments I don't have. Now, in their defense I have the same first and last name of another patient, different middle initial, dob. I've asked them in the past to please check the middle initial and dob BEFORE calling, they don't. This time I called and left a message with the office manager...still they called twice in two days. False advertising - Dr. Michael Hirt's website in Tarzana advertises that he is accepting new clients and is a provider for Screen Actors Guild/Producers Health Plan. Neither are true. Or, mostly false. He does NOT accept the health plan that represents the majority of working performers in this town. And, if one is not recommended to him by another doctor in his office, he will not accept them as a new patient. Perhaps the good doctor better do his homework as to the huge population of working professionals in the entertainment industry with lots of visibility that he is turning away. read more

This doctor is more of a salesman than a doctor. His office originally told me to fast before my appointment because they would be doing a blood test. I waited almost two hours until I saw the doctor and they never took a blood test. He then told me to come back at the end of my appointment another day for my blood test because he has to schedule it with his lab. I was told I couldn't go to another quest lab. He tried to get me to buy a bunch of vitamins that he personally sells with his label in his office as well as pay out of pocket for an expensive allergy test as his office which was unrelated to the original issue of why I went to him. I went to two other doctors for second and third opinion and both confirmed an allergy test would be unnecessary. I don't believe I got the help I really needed to focus on the heartburn issue I was having and left this office very disappointed. He also informed me that he would not be taking insurance anymore starting January 2020. I would not recommend paying out of pocket for this doctor and you'll get better results from a doctor that is covered by your insurance. read more

This doctor is the worst doctor ever I met in my life. I just had a sever cold and I wanted to have only antibiotics, however he requested so many awkward labs which cost thousands of dollars. Plus they tried to make me purchase tons of their supplemental products. I went to see different doctor immediately and asked him if these labs were really necessary or not. He said this doctor is crazy!! I just can tell this doctor doesn't care about patients, but only money. He even owns lab company and he sends all patients there. I've been using this office for over 15 years and have recommended it to friends and family. It's fair to say that the wait times are long both on the phone and in the office but the service is outstanding! The office staff is amazing and professional. They manage large numbers of patients without missing a beat. Often times I hear these patients and they are not feeling their best so they are short tempered or unkind and still, the staff maintain their professional demeamor. They may be quick on a call or speak a bit in shorthand because of the need to assist everyone, but ANYTIME you sense that you need them to repeat or slow down- just ask. They are all working so hard to be able to help as many people as possible and keep the quality excellent for all- it's not a perfect world, but it's top medical care and his staff truly, truly cares how each patient is doing. He is so well known for his excellent skill and care as a dr., that his case load is quite heavy. So if you catch someone on an off moment, try taking a moment to recognize the enormity of what they are providing and accomplishing successfully before you react. They help more people in one week, than most of us will ever dream of helping in our lifetimes- and they do it the best! I love Dr. Hirt. My family and I have been going to him for many years. He's amazing at diagnosing issues and figuring out the best method to treat an illness. He is very knowledgable. His office also does IV treatments which really helped me when I was dehydrated during pregnancy. read more

I never doubted he was a good Doctor. The thing that bothers me really bad is he uses basic supplements and relabels them to his brand and charges 4 times the cost of something you can get either online or in store. Really ashamed, some of the supplements he uses have actually go down as he DOES NOT use the highest quality ingredients. Good Doctor but I recommend you buy the supplements elsewhere to save money! read more
