It only took me 4 phone calls to schedule an appointment and 1 hour of hold in the waiting room to decide that I will never ever go to this place again, it is not the first time they are doing that but if you are late or not showing up they will bill you regularly... absurd!!! Dr. Tanouye IS a very good doctor. Professiolal, knowlegable and carring. But his sataff n the front gffice is terrible. They are rude, unfriendly, don`treturn calls. Dr. T is the absolute best. He's very patient-focused and incredibly good at drilling down to find the cause of your symptoms (rather than simply treating your symptoms like many doctors). His staff is very friendly, despite how busy the office is. I've only ever seen them get short with people who came in rude and hot (and I've seen them patiently re-explain Insurance issues to elderly patients who are agitated at something beyond the office's control). I can't recommend him enough, especially now that he's affiliated with Cedars. read more

Dr Tanouye has been our family doctor for close to 20 yrs. During this time, he has only been thorough, compassionate, and extremely knowledgeable. Dr. Gary Tanouye was recommended to me by a neighbor who couldn't say enough good things about him. When I arrived I had about a 15 minute wait before he saw me. He listened intently to what I had to say and asked what I considered to be the right questions and then told me he'd like to take an X-Ray and some bloodworm. The good thing was this was all done very quickly on the premises and then he took the time to take me into his office to explain thew results before prescribing me a medication. I found that both him and his staff had a great friendly manner and will definitely be going back for my healthcare when needed. read more

I have been going to Dr. Tanouye for years because he is a wonderful, kind man and a good doctor, but I can't deal with his office anymore. Over the years, they have been rude and haven't returned my phone calls, but this past week is the straw that broke the camel's back. I called exactly a week ago to find out if I need any travel vaccinations for an upcoming trip. I was told that they would leave a message for the doctor and let me know. It has been exactly one week and I still have not received a call back, despite calling every single day to follow-up with them and literally beg them to call me back so I can prepare for my trip. I just called to request my medical records be transferred to a new doctor. Lord knows how long that will take (if ever) with this office. read more

Dr. Tanouye is the PCP for my husband and I. He's an older man, kind hearted with a warm spirit. He seems to be very thorough with our physicals, which is all we have really seen him for. Recently, we needed some urgent blood testing to check the health of our unborn baby, and again he was understanding and his staff got me in quick and we got the results pretty timely as well. He deserves four stars, but I'm giving two stars because the two times I called to follow up about the blood results - I've been on hold over 40min. I understand I have the option to leave a message, but sometimes when it's urgent you want to just wait, and the hold time should not be over 40 mins. read more

The most unprofessional office, I have ever experienced in my life! From Dr Tanouye all the way down the totem pole to the Office Manager and Receptionists. Dr Tanouye does not return phone calls, unless his incompetent Receptionist Katie doesn't actually give him his messages. There's not one person in that office with an ounce of compassion. And if Dr Tanouye had any compassion for his patients he would give them 1 min of his time, after they drove 50 miles to see him instead of hiding behind his staff. I had gone to him for a check up the year before, but went to him the following year because I couldn't sleep for literary weeks at a time and asked for something to help me. Dr. Tanouye is friendly, knowledgeable, experienced and takes his time with his patients. He personally called me on a saturday to go over my lab results. Who does that!!! When I analyze my PCP, I want them to be experienced, knowledgeable, caring and kind. Check , check and check!! Do I care if Im hold for 3 or 30 minutes??? Heck no!!!. I dont care about any thing else. If Im hold for more than 4 minutes whether its my dr, a friend, my mom or whoever...im hanging up and calling back or emailing like a normal person. Dr. Tanouye is amazing!!!!! During my first intake session, he took over an hour to get a thorough medical history. He has amazing bedside manner and really individualizes his treatment. He is not one of those doctors and walks in and out of the exam room and throws medication at you. He cares! So sorry to hear of others' displeasure. We've been patients of Dr. Tanouye for probably twenty years and consider him a very compassionate, pleasant, caring and sensitive man. Knowing our medical histories as he does he doesn't panic with one unusual test result, he simply re-examines us to insure there was no cause for concern. His nurse came in pretty green, but is an excellent and talented assistant who we appreciate just as much. When hospitalized, Dr. Tanouye comes into my room and radiates confidence and optimism. He's not a 9 to 5 doctor. Rounds early in the hospital, office appointments, and more rounds. We cannot recommend him more highly. read more

My husband and I have been a patient of our general practitioner, Dr. Tanouye for 20+ years. At first, his care, compassion and good nature was very comforting. Then 6 years ago I had a very serious condition that ultimately rendered me disabled. I saw many specialists and underwent countless procedures and surgeries and still require continued care. He refuses to mail my prescriptions and canceled several of my other prescriptions that I rarely use but have them only as needed. I asked one of my specialist/surgeon as an emergency to prescribe them. Since then, Dr. Tanouye has been angry with me, throwing tantrums, extremely rude and harsh, refusing to answer or return my calls and going so far as to walk out on me when I was in the hospital admitted through the ER. I needed his help this week that could be resolved over the phone in 2 minutes and he had his receptionist tell me to go ask Dr. "Specialist." (Tanouye angry at him too.) WTH?! That's not his field, it's Tanouye's field. This has put my already fragile health in danger and I'm TERRIFIED. Extremely unprofessional behavior if you don't agree with his course of treatment. read more

Should have written this years ago. I tried to stay with Dr. Tanouye,and even came back after finding a worse dr. hoping things would improve. His staff and billing is just absolutely awful. I'm not sure why he doesn't see what is going on. It's a shame because he could have a great practice. Trying to get a callback from him, forget it. We tried to get my husband's blood test results for over a month and then they said they were finally mailing it to us and then it took 2 weeks. Office had wrong insurance one year and billed us continually, took a year to fix it. Last year went in for a physical which is supposed to be paid for at 100% through my PPO insurance, tests were added that cost me a fortune....even though I said I only want routine. I've lived here a long time, can't be this hard to keep clients. Their hold time and call back time is awful. Wonder if Dr. Tanouye ever reads his reviews....don't think so. He's a super nice man, just works in a horrible office that's completely unorganized. You just can't run a business with bad customer service...people want more! read more

I am a patient of Dr. Tanouye's and although he himself is a pleasure to work with, his office and receptionist are not. He only has one receptionist and anytime I call I'm hold for 5-15 minutes and getting lab results back is next to impossible and requires many days worth of repeated phone calls. Leave a message and you're promised a return call within "one hour" but that never happens. You can't email anyone or get any information electronically which makes their office stuck in the stone-ages a bit. I've seen Dr. Tanouye 4 times now and am really considering looking for a new doctor's office that is more modernized with a much better support staff... read more

My experience over the past 2 year have been unpleasant on so many levels. The staff is extremely rude and unprofessional. Dr. Tanouye doesn't seem to mind that they are driving business away. I know of 5 patients who have left and I now join them. My sister passed away from heart disease 2 years ago at a young age and my mother had a stroke in her late 50's. Every time I visited his office (every 4 weeks) he asked me if there was a history of heart disease in my family. I was being treated for thyroid problems and in 2 years, I was never weighed and I am still not regulated. So I am moving on and I advise anyone to look elsewhere for an internist. read more

5 Star Physician and 5 Star Office. Dr. Tanouye is a board certified Internal Medicine physician. He is approachable, knowledgeable, and very easy to talk to. He is punctual at all my visits and accommodating in fitting me in when needed, When I was hospitalized, he continued to care for me and all the physicians in his group were amazing. He does not use an outside physician service or hospitalist physicians that only work at the hospital for physicians that do not want to work at the hospital. In his group of doctors you are seen by your own physician who knows you and cares for you. This group offers a higher personal quality of service without paying a Concierge Physician fee. His office accepts Medicare and a lot of PPO insurances which is getting harder to find a physician that takes your insurance, so each physician has one secretary to answer the phone. If I leave a message, I have always gotten a call back within a reasonable amount of time. Even on the weekend, one physician that takes on call for the group does return the my call. For working patients he does come in with minimal staff early before working hours for physicals which is helpful. He does fit in emergencies. I highly recommend Dr. Tanouye to anyone who wants a caring, smart, accommodating physician and supportive office. read more
