I do NOT recommend this office. The disorganization and poor communication puts his patients in danger of mistreatment and misdiagnosis. Full experience here: After I received my blood work results, I attempted to make an appointment at the doctor's request. Via phone call, the receptionist advised I schedule via text. Each of the 4 times I attempted to schedule via text, they responded as if I'd never messaged before, never giving me an appointment. This took a full week of trying and then finally they said it was best to schedule via phone call. I quickly called and aired my frustrations with the runaround they gave me, requesting to speak with the Doctor. The next day, when the reception team connected me with Dr. Hirt, he answered saying "Happy Birthday!" He thought I was a completely different patient. If this much poor communication is happening in this office between the staff and Dr - and he isn't even aware what patients he is speaking to - how can I trust him to properly diagnose me? This level of care is rare and life extending for chronically ill patients of specific chronic diseases (Lyme, EBV, etc). These patients typically don't receive adequate care for these diseases from typical western doctors, where short term care is considered adequate even when symptoms persist indefinitely. Dr. Hirt is a Harvard & UCLA trained internist, but he kept going, exploring alternative medicine, which treats the needs of these patients specifically. If that's not you, this shoe might not fit. They don't take insurance anymore, which makes sense to people with these chronic conditions, because the doctors who treat these conditions never take insurance. Dr. Hirt's rates are among the lowest for no-insurance doctors that I know in the LA area. $125 for Hirt versus $400+ (Holtorf, Miguel Gonzalez, others). Patients who were told they're fine, who were told their condition isn't life threatening and just deal, or weren't ever given a diagnosis but lived debilitated without a reason why--Dr. Hirt likely has something amazing to offer. If you're living with a typical illness that goes away with typical medical treatment, this doctor is too busy and too expensive to make any practical sense. Chronically ill patients don't mind as much waiting in long lines for that rare doctor who understands and listens and helps. This doctor actually gets what life is like for chronically ill patients and connects. Not perfectly. But better than anything else I've found. If you can afford $100,000 treatment in Germany, or some European chronic-disease treatment center, this also doesn't make any sense. This is for people who can't afford to do that, yet. (Maybe someday, who knows, go lotto!) Dr. Hirt is better than a regular insurance-taking doctor if you have certain extraordinary needs. Dr. Hirt is beyond understanding and caring. He does some special testing to find out the root cause of any symptoms you experienced. Its not about covering it with a mask called "meds" but truly healing so you feel better later on. I have had multiple issues throughout my life and no doctor ever mentioned to me that my immune system is below average. No one has ever tested that specific to find out the details but Dr Hirt at the very first appointment after talking to me figured that he needs to find out the underlying cause for my various health issues. I've dragged my sister and several friends to see him because of how talented and unique he is. Lots of tests, lots of supplements yes but HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT! HE IS A LIVING HEALER... Because of Dr Hirt and the whole body testing he alerted me to the high risk of breast cancer. He asked me to begin annual breast ultrasound screenings at the age of 34. He asked me to do daily breast massage and take several supplements. Unfortunately I didn't listen to him - busy life, getting married, ivf struggles. I also stopped seeing him. Well Dr Hirt was spot on because at the age of 41 I was unfortunately diagnosed with breast cancer. Yes - His office is extremely busy. For good reason. It's time I give Dr. Hirt a good review. He has been my doctor for probably ten years, I've lost count. Yes, you will need to wait to see him if you are a first-time patient, yes, you will have to wait when you are in the office bc he is SUPREMELY busy (this is a good thing, busy doctors don't lose patients!) BUT at the end of the waiting game you have Dr. Hirt and he is AWESOME! I'll cite a few examples so you know where I am coming from .. because saying he's great without EVIDENCE means nothing. There are two that stand out to me. First, I found out that I had a ruptured breast implant after a recent Mammogram. I had an appointment set-up to see the doctor who placed them to have them removed and new ones put in place. I was a little lost and didn't really know what to do so I called Dr. HIRTS office to set up a Zoom call (I still see him since I moved to Laguna Beach). When I explained my situation to Dr. Hirt he said, "if you were my wife, I would tell you to have them completely taken out and have nothing replace them". I was in shock. Wait, what?!?! Nothing to replace them??? He said, "we have been struggling for years trying to figure out why your inflammation markers are so high and this solves the riddle." I asked him who do I go to? He told me to research the doctors that remove implants and reconstruct the breast. I listened, I cancelled my plastic surgeon appt and found an amazing doctor here in Newport Beach. Surgery went well and he used liposuction and fat to reconstruct my breasts. Pretty cool. Thanks to Dr. Hirt and his direction I found a better alternative to my problem. Then in October 2020, I got Covid when moving my Dad in Arizona. I received my diagnosis and on Monday morning called Dr. HIRTS office. They took the message and called me back. Dr. Hirt needs to see you tomorrow in the office. Ok, I live in laguna Beach so I drove all the way to Tarzana. DR. HIRT IS NOT SCARED OF COVID. I came in through a back entrance and went right into one of his exam rooms. There are scrubbers in EVERY room. Most of his nurses have already had Covid so no worries there. He checked my lungs, ears and throat and said, so far you look good, but before you leave you need to do an IV drip. No problem. I stayed for an extra hour plus for his magical IV drip and drove back to Laguna Beach that evening. Covid was easy for me. Could be the antibiotics, IV drip, or hydroxycloroquine he prescribed ... I'm not really sure but I barely had any symptoms. Bottom line, I trust Dr. Hirt inherently! I think he is smart and out of the box thinker and I am proud to say he is my doctor! read more

I saw Dr Hirt for many years for as a general internist & for chronic illness. The last time I saw him I had not been feeling well at all and he did bloodwork. Weeks went by & then months, and I never received any results of my labs. I called many many times over the following 6 MONTHS, requesting my results & consistently got the same answer: "the results came back a while ago but Dr Hirt hasn't reviewed them yet, but would very soon & I'd get a call back". I never got any calls back, and got additional bills for the lab work that I NEVER got any results from. I ended up going to a different doctor, as after so long the results were too old to be relevant anymore, even if they were to send me results. This is typical of his office...you have to hassle them for weeks to months to get any test results (and he does a lot of expensive tests, many of which are don't in their in-house lab). Wait times at the office are a nightmare. And they push lots of very expensive supplements that are their own brand. You get very little time with the doctor. The entire operation felt like over time it degraded into a money making scheme, not a place that was there to heal patients. While I think he is intelligent & may have helped some patients, I would not recommend him and did not see much benefit from the thousands & thousands of dollars I spent. read more

I went to Dr Hirt in November of 2023 for weight gain and difficulty breathing (long Covid). The initial visit went well. I explained my issues and he ordered a battery of tests. One month later I returned and Dr Hirt went over my lab results and prescribed a bunch of supplements and therapies. Three were peptides I later learned are banned in the USA (three months later) HCG, NAD and MK-677. I had to inject the HCG and the NAD and I developed lumps in the injection site because they never told me to alternate the injection site to avoid this problem. When I received my lab results there was another patient's information and protocol attached to my results. I was also prescribed Vitamin C IV, Laser light blood therapy and Ozone blood therapy. i went a few times for the laser lite and the Vitamin C but soon after stopped going because the person doing the IV therapies was overwhelmed, he was doing multiple patients at one time forgetting to put stuff in the IV and having to added it afterwards placing needles on the counter without any protection on them I also learned that Ozone therapy is very dangerous if not administered by the doctor and is also banned in the USA and so is the laser light therapy. A few months went by and a couple thousand dollars later I was gaining weight, breathing was worsening and my testosterone had dropped from 267 to 163 and I was very tired and getting depressed. I contacted the Nurse Clorinda asking what is happening and why did Dr Hirt put me on banned peptides and never got an answer, still to this day the doctor will not tell me why I was on banned peptides he only wants a phone call he will not put it in writing why he put me on these banned peptides and will not tell me what he gave me to address the weight gain or breathing issues. A few more  months went by and going back and forth with the nurse I got frustrated because I felt the doctor just abandoned me and will not tell me what and why I was taking the supplements for. I threatened to make a complaint to the bar and all of a sudden Dr Hirt wants to talk on the phone but when I ask him to tell me in writing why he prescribed these banned peptides he refuses to send it in an email leading me to conclude he is hiding something or don't want to admit to what he is doing.  I had multiple issues with the staff trying to get the supplements ordered again and had to wait over a month after I requested a new blood and lab tests. The last appointments I had with Dr Hirt the nurse Clorinda conducted the follow up questions while DR Hirt sat there looking down at his hands It was an odd situation to have to talk to an RN about my situation. I don't think this Dr is well nor do I think he should be treating people this way. His office is extreaml;y busy, the staff is always putting you on hold forgetting to order and mail out your supplements and like I said It took over a month for them to order follow up lab tests and their excuse was they are too busy. However, waiting months for test results and sometimes days to make an appointment for weeks in advance is becoming increasingly frustrating. Great doctor, no way of direct communication. It's refreshing to see a doctor who seems to really listen, is knowledgeable in his craft, and who tries responsibly steer people away from big pharma solutions when possible. Regretfully, I won't be seeing him anymore for a few reasons, mainly for a lack of technology on the patients side: 1) There is no patient portal and any info you want to get info you need to call directly, and I'm assuming have them fax or print for pickup. I've asked multiple times about this because it took me by surprise, and it is indeed the case. 2) There is no way to pay online. You can send them mail with your credit card info, or go in person, neither of which I should be made to do in 2018 3) Communication is restricted to a phone call, or text message to the receptionist who then convey the message to Dr Hirt, and then it comes back to you from one of the receptionists. I don't know if this is some 1 degree of separation thing for covering your ass, but it's pretty ridiculous that you can't communicate with your doctor directly, especially one who takes notes on an iPad. read more

Dr. Hirt is a Harvard educated M.D. Let's start there! He has additional education in the most current and least damaging ways of restoring health and healing illness. He also cares and really listens. He is a blessing to our community. And our family is forever grateful for all that he has done for our family's health. I've had stomach problems since a child and have seen multiple doctors over the years. I started seeing Dr. Hirt a few months ago and he ran an ALCATE test then recommended a special diet. I noticed immediate changes and relief. I highly recommend trying him. A couple of suggestions, yes there is often a long wait to see him and I've had where I've had to wait 2 hours for my appointment (330pm). So, get the earliest appointment in the morning possible. If you do that then you can possibly get in and out in less than a hour. He's well worth the wait and will listen to all your concerns but he's only human and we are all prone to an off day. read more

Horrible Staff. I hope the doctor sees this. He may be a good a doctor, but I'll never find out. I called to book an appointment, and they said I would need to be approved before someone would call me back. I had a referral from one of the doctors peers, so they said ok, they would get back to me in a couple days. Two weeks went by, no call. I called back, told them what happened, and they said "who told you that?" She said she would look into it, and promised to call me back by the end of the day. No call back. Another two weeks went by, and the original receptionist finally called me back. This was now a month after the original call. She said, "did they tell you it takes 2-3 months before someone would call you back?" I said no, and that it was YOU that I first spoke to. I am suffering for many years from back pain. A friend of mine recommended me to go to see Dr. Michael Garrett the beginning was really hard to get somebody's attention at his office but I really wanted my back fixed and more of a natural way in a surgery so I had a patient that needs. h but unless I got an appointment with him and he asked me to bring my MRI if I have to. Met with the doctor with the MRI he was looking at it and said that I could be at Kennedy for his stem cells treatment. He said once I will do the stem cells injection in my lower back I should feel much better and all the pain will go away. Of time three weeks to three months. The price for it was $8000 which is a lot of money but obviously I didn't mind to pay that to get rid of my pain and get back to a regular life active life. After several weeks someone from his office called me to ask me how I feel and I said the pain is still there they said the doctor will communicate with me right away, it took them five months to call me back. Explain the doctor none of my pain went away obviously he started To explain why it's not working on everybody and all the sudden this is not a promise procedure like he stated before. I was trying to see if he might offer me maybe another shot or giving me another solution that it's not gonna cost me anything since I paid $8000 been washed in the drain. I waited almost 2 months to get into see him. My problem is that upon arrival, they absolutely refused to see me. Why, you ask? Because his financial policy includes a statement that you MUST sign - NO EXCEPTIONS - that you do not now, nor have you in the past, worked for the FDA nor do you have any affiliations with them. Huh? What legitimate reason could a doctor have for refusing to treat a patient simply because they work for or deal with the FDA. I asked to speak with him, thinking that surely just because I work closely with the FDA while employed at a medical device company this is no reason not to see me. His office staff explained that he had no time to speak to me (not even my appointment time) and that he never made any exceptions to his financial policy. I should have payed more attention to the negative reviews but he had so many more positive ones and he seemed like the kind of doctor I was to see. I know a lot of people complain about him selling his vitamins, but he discloses that he makes money off those sales that that you are not required to buy from him. So while I dislike the practice, I can make my own decisions about where to buy my supplements. I'll let you draw your own conclusions, but the FDA is not in the business of monitoring physicians. It is however in the business of monitoring those who make and market supplements, drugs and devices. Not only that I had to do my blood work at a lab in their building-mind you he is co-owner of this "lab." Gee I wonder why doing blood work in this lab is a requirement? So when there's abnormal results you have to keep forking over him money and keep going back there. Tested me for Lyme disease. For no reason. Then wanted me to come back for a $500 dollar urine test that would not be covered by insurance...of course why would they cover it because there's no medical indication for any of these tests! I just called the office to make an appointment as a new patient - I am totally appalled that he would not even make an appointment to see me unless I was referred by a patient. I explained that a few years back my Sister had asked a friend of hers for an integrative MD and she told me about Dr. Hirt. I had been a patient with Dr. Hirt for about 20 years. I regarded him as my Dr. and a friend. I took a yearly physical with him and called his office to arrange another for this year. I was rudely told that he was now only taking cash payments. I was shocked. Was this what you do to a patient of nearly 20 years? IMO, he also has an inherent conflict of interest in pushing his supplements which generate much income. One shipment I ordered was over $700. He is competent and knowledgeable in Medicine, but. obviously is more concerned with making a buck than taking care of his patients. I believe it is unethical to drop patients without a warning, letter or note after 20 years. I will never buy another of his supplements, some of which came discolored. read more

Rather than repeating what's already been said here, pro and con I'm going to try to give an honest look at who will benefit from Dr. Hirt and who won't. I do need to repeat what has been said many times so far and that is that Dr. Hirt is brilliant. He was number 2 in his Harvard Medical School class. He has a tremendous body of knowledge in both traditional medicine and integrative medicine. He has seen it all in over twenty years of practice. Dr. Hirt's practice is huge. He has almost 30 employees supporting just one physician. It's a bit of a mill and the employee turnover is high. His staff can be a little scattered and inefficient at times as has been pointed out. If you're looking for a warm, fuzzy medical practice, this isn't for you. If you want to be able to call your doctor to over test results, this isn't the place for you. What Dr. Hirt does best is keep people well and avoid future illnesses. He tests more than any doctor around. He looks at hundreds of things in my blood and urine. He also treats illnesses that other MD's have bad results with. Things like heavy metals, Epstein Barr, Lyme Disease, Chronic fatigue syndrome etc. I have been seeing Dr. Hirt for almost 20 years now and he has successfully diagnosed and treated more illnesses that other doctors would miss and then have no treatment. Yes, he sells supplements, lots of them. He does many treatments not covered by insurance and looked down upon by the traditional medical establishment. So, if you're not on board for this he's not for you. He's a diet absolutist and will ask you to change your diet. If you're not open to this, he's not for you. Someone recommended I see Dr.Hirt after being on medication and seeing different doctors for over 2 years for an esophageal ulcer. It took a while to get an appointment, and his office was pretty far away, but I made the drive out. I wasted three weeks trying to see Dr. Hirt as a new patient with a current patient referral. I called FIVE times during that three weeks and was told each time someone would call me back the next day, only to NEVER receive ANY calls back.
