Mike Lieppman is a doctor who loves helping people. Inclouding being a top rated ophthalmologist Mike has a genuine desire to be there for his patients. I am grateful and lucky to know Dr. Lieppman and to have him taking excellent care of my eyes. years ago I was told by another eye doctor I needed cataract surgery. Lieppmann and his office assistant Dawn, are a straightforward and efficient team. Dawn was especially helpful ahead of time over the phone and a real sweet person once I met her very eager to please. There is cool eyeball art all over the office and they have a place to do glasses and a separate waiting room. The doctor to is very helpful and down-to-earth and explains the procedures with a flash of dramatic Flair. He does extend sympathy and tries to make sure you understand the next steps. all-in-all in all I think this is a fairly solid outfit and is recommended. read more

This ophthalmologist is not my kind of doctor. 3 visits totaled way over $1000 in charges and he spent maybe 15 minutes with me in total. He rushed through the diagnosis explanation and talked down to me. When I later asked for a single prescription renewal his office refused and tried to schedule another check up. They did finally call it in, but when I went to pick up the prescription for a small, less than a 1/4 tsp of liquid, it was $122.00 at Sam's Club!! The pharmacist called his office and told them there was a generic exact equivalent for only $4.00 and he refused to change the prescription TELLING the pharmacist that it was because I did not make another appointment! Look up extortion. You'll find him there. Bottom line? Obviously money is more important to him than anything else. I have a big deductible and even with a small cash discount I spent a fortune at his office. And this was the thanks I got. I would give him a -2 star rating if I could! read more

Not only is he very knowledgeable about the eyes, he also knows a lot about health and the human body. There is nothing more frustrating than losing your vision. He literally saved my eyes and my vision. I used to get horrible headaches and did not know they were actually migraines. I was also unaware that I had both Glaucoma and Cataracts--I just knew I was having trouble seeing. I knew in my gut something was wrong and I am so thankful I went to him for a second opinion. I highly recommend Dr. Lieppman - he is the BEST ophthalmologist and eye specialist there is. I feel extremely fortunate to have him as my doctor. My advice is to avoid this doctor and find an ophthalmologist who actually pays attention to their patient, takes accurate histories (if at all), and prescribes treatment appropriate for the patient. The GOOD: Dawn, his office assistant. She's terrific and understanding and was empathetic as I experienced what is likely the worst treatment ever from any type of doctor. The BAD: Just about everything else. At best, Mr. Lieppman is condescending and arrogant. At worst he is potentially poorly diagnosing his patients and finding non-existent problems. My mother had been (no longer) a patient of Mr. Lieppman for years and she came in due to a recent eye issue. Michael did not ask her for any history of why she was there, what had happened recently, let alone what had been occurring since she had last visited. As her caretaker, I have to represent my mother in appointments with doctors. Michael did not acknowledge me once during the entire appointment and then ignored me when I asked what the eyedrops he prescribed were for. This was after not even seeming to notice or diagnose the actual issue she was in the office for - telling her she had particles in her eyes from the winds. His reckless behavior is beyond unacceptable. While my mother will not be returning to his office, I can only issue this warning to BEWARE AND FIND A RELIABLE AND TRUSTWORTHY ophthalmologist. read more

I am so thankful that he was so highly recommended to me by my Medical Doctor over 12 years ago. He gives out samples whenever possible with great tips on saving money when buying eye products. He always explains clearly what's going on with my eyes. Along with that, he gives step by step instructions for any medications, eye treatments, etc. If he diagnosis a condition he gives out a sheet to take home which tells all about that condition making sure I understand exactly what is going on with my eyes. All the while he has this warm and friendly smile which is definitely contagious. His office staff are the same wonderful, helpful people that have been with him for many years. The positive energy when I enter his office until the moment I leave I wish all doctor's offices had. Good treatment in order to have the best possible eyesight is extremely important. I'm not sure even where to begin, but weary of any doctor that insists you sign an arbitration form, which basically means if he screws up in any way, you are not entitled to a court hearing and must go thru do you arbitration process, as RN for 29 years, this generally means they are not confident in their skills and are afraid to get sued or they get sued often and do not want to have to go thru the the expensive lawyer route or both. I signed it, knowing I was going here for one thing, to get my eyes dilated bc of a headache I've had for 5 Wks. His response, I can't do it bc you have a headache, ummmm what, excuse me, that is part the ruling out process of a headache work up( I got it done a later that day from another doctor, the amazing Dr Herztog and thank God I did, bc there were abnormal findings). The doctor instead handed me 2 prescriptions and said come back Monday I need to see you. You have allergies. NO DOC, I DO NOT. I just got finished applying fake eyelashes for the first time and irritated my eyes, well there was no talking to him, he insisted and then proceeded to make fun of me bc I had a few tears over a headache that I wanted to throw myself over a bridge over, that's how bad it hurt n he said I had major severe anxiety bc of those tears. Omg! if you met me, you would realize how ridiculous that sounds. I can go on n on n on, he was incompetent and missed a huge finding by not dilating my eyes were change the course of treatment for me , he was insensitive and wanted to make more money by having me return a few days later for a Diagnosis I did not have, in which Dr Herztog said I had Zero allergies and to not fill the prescription. Sooo choose what you will, but as a nurse and a patient, there are many more choices on Yelp to choose from. Again, be wary of any arbitration form they make you sign at any doctors office!! Honestly he was so THE one anxiety ridden bc he was flustered if I asked him questions as we went along. I want to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude for the care I received from Dr. Lieppman. I arrived in California only to experience flashing and floaters in my left eye. A friend called Dr. Lieppman on a Sunday to explain my condition. He advised that I go to Long Beach Memorial Hospital Emergency Room to have it examined. When we felt I wasn't getting the care I should be receiving, my friend called Dr. Lieppman and he left his family party to open his office and check on me. In the world today, it seems we only take the time to complain and not honor the people who truly deserve our thanks. Dr. Leippman was unprofessional and had me buy way too many medications for the problem I had. He even charged me for the photos he took of my eye and didn't ask me before taking them. Dr. Lieppman scared me into thinking I had something that was way more intense than it was and was insensitive when explaining it to me. I went to go see another ophthalmologist who did not make me buy so many medications and was kind enough to listen to me as well as explain his actions before hand. read more

Dr Lieppman is a wonderful doctor. I have total confidence in him. I had orbital cellulitus and new exactly what it was when he looked at me. He had handouts to explain exactly what all that meant since I had no clue. He gave me antibiotics and ointments for my eye. I went in on a Monday and he had me better within the week it could have turned into a brain infection. I have always found him to be informative and very efficient. And the other reviewers complaint about how much they had to spend may be true but he has always tried to find the lost cost items. He has given me coupons galore and advice on what and where to buy certain items for my eyes. I also had another eye infection last year that caused a cold because of the effect on my immune system. I was having coughing fits he told me to go to the 99 cent store and to pick up a specific cough medicine. Also that last time I had an eye infection I went to urgent care because it was the weekend. The doctor prescribed the wrong medicine it didn't cause a problem but also didn't fix the problem. When I went to Dr Lieppman he told me I should have called him and he would have seen me at his office. He said once I was his patient I would always be his patient. I even had to call him after hours and is service put through to him. I talked to him on a Friday night! What doctor does that?? read more
