My experience was really bad with this company. The people working on the phones have no idea what jobs the guys working in the field can actually do and schedule and charge for jobs that they can not complete. The service that I need done is to move a stack-able washer/dryer and replace the pan. I originally called Sears appliance people, and when they came to the house they said that a plumber needs to do this work (and did not charge us). I clearly Micheal and Sons what I needed done over the phone (twice) and they said that they can do the job. I scheduled an appointment for Tuesday, and they never showed up. I called them again, and they apologized and scheduled to come again on Thursday. When they finally came, even before the plumber came in the house he told me he could not do the job and that I would need to pay him $69 for coming out. I don't understand why he didn't just look at the job notes before coming over and calling and telling me he can't do it (or have the call center people call me). I am really frustrated that I had to pay for them to tell me they can't do the job, after they said they could. They wasted my time as well (by having me stay home 2 days), but that is forgivable as long as the job is done. I would not schedule another job with this company again. read more

They charge a $69 fee to come out and provide an estimate. Then you can't get ahold of anyone to schedule the actual service. I tried email and phone multiple times each. It's a scam. I notified the BBB. The company is supposed to have reimbursed the money, but they haven't. I have emailed Maurice multiple times without a response. read more

I wouldn't give them even one star but I had to in order to write the review. So I had a few small plumbing items I needed taken care of in the house and unfortunately called Michael & Son. When I say small plumbing needs I say that truthfully. I needed the faucet spout on the tub changed out it was dripping water to the tub when the shower was running. $190 later my new spout put on by Michael and son that looked similar to the one that was removed (Home Depot) was still leaking. Now at $190 this thing should have been made of gold! So I called them back to come and replace it with brand that actually works. I have made 2 appointments and each time they have canceled on me. The kitchen sink that they replaced is a Moen discontinued model that they charged me $537. They are ripoff artists to say the least. Overpriced and incompetent plumbers. I will never use them again and pray that they go out of business so that don't continue to rip people. 10/4 Have called them several times I have spoken to Maurice and he said he would call me right back. I am still waiting! read more

Tldr: Michael and Sons tried to scare me into purchasing a new furnace with cracked heat exchanger SCAM; a different and actually reputable HVAC company debunked their diagnosis and changed my dirty filter. Always get a second opinion folks! I scheduled a pre-season tune up for my furnace with Michael and Sons. Within 10 minutes of the tech being here, he called me down to the basement to explain that I had a cracked heat exchanger and that my furnace was unsafe and inoperable and would need to be replaced. He turned the entire unit off and then began discussing pricing with me. I told him that I would prefer to go through my home warranty company since my furnace was covered and also because I wanted a second opinion. He said that he could have a senior tech sent out to provide a second opinion as well. The senior tech arrived a few hours later and he wasn't a tech at all, he was a salesman. I take him to the unit and he immediately begins to tell me that the unit was older and needed to be replaced and began throwing out prices all without ever physically touching the unit. He only looked at the unit because I insisted that he do so to verify the tech's diagnosis. He didn't even have tools to remove the panels and had to borrow my power drill to do so. Here's where I began to call bullsh*t: he opened a completely different panel than the first tech, waved his phone flashlight around a bit and said that my secondary exchanger was cracked and he could tell because some minor rust was present. I thanked him for coming out and he said he would email over a written diagnosis that I could give to my home warranty company, which I never received BTW. Fast forward a few days; I put in a service request with my home warranty company and they send a different HVAC company out. The tech comes and as I begin to explain my experience with Michael and Sons, he stops me mid sentence and says "they said you have a cracked exchanger and the unit needs to be replaced, didn't they?" I told him that's exactly what happened and he then explained to me that M&S has a reputation of telling customers this, particularly women and the elderly, in an effort to scare them into purchasing new units. He then proceeds to thoroughly look at the unit and explains that if I really had a cracked heat exchanger, that there were several safety precautions they would have taken to disable the furnace, including locking and tagging it out. He further explained all the safety features built into the furnace that would have tripped if that were really the issue and showed me a few YouTube videos of what actual cracked heat exchangers looked like. He said the rust was caused by the naturally humid environment of the basement and that a dehumidifier would easily remedy that. He also said that the first M&S tech didn't even do a good job looking at the unit because he overlooked my filter, which was dirty, and he changed it free of charge. All in all, there was absolutely nothing wrong with my unit besides the dirty filter. I'm so glad I got a second opinion from a reputable company instead of taking Michael and Sons diagnosis at face value. read more

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY IF YOU LIVE IN BALTIMORE COUNTY: I hired this company to run a simple line from upstairs to the basement. The technician came into my house and proceeded to leave 19 holes in my ceiling and my walls. He put holes in walls that didn't even lead to where the wire would go in the basement and rooms no one uses. As he left he said I would be contacted by someone else to finish the job. After not hearing from anyone for 3 weeks I called them. They told me that they would send out the technician to finish the job. I requested a new technician because this one put 19 holes in my walls, they said they would send out a more experienced technician. The same technician came to my house extremely angry and rude as he told me they do not fix the walls after they put holes in them, a fact he neglected to tell me before he started the job. I called and spoke to the manager who explained that they do this type of work in other locations, just not in Baltimore. I explained this was not disclosed before they started the work and she said yes that was unfortunate but nothing they can do. I spent $3600 and it will cost $1600 or more to fix the walls. I'm not sure why this technician needed to make 19 holes to run a simple wire, but he obviously was not skilled in the type of work they sent him to do in my home. To be told they would send out a more experienced technician was an insult. Why didn't I warrant the more experienced technician the first time out, instead of the butcher they sent, is it because I live in Baltimore County? I cannot answer this question, but if you are wonder what company puts holes in a wall and does not take responsibility for the damage they inflict, apparently Michael and Sons Services does!!! read more

I will tell everyone I know to never call Michael and Sons. I called because the toilet wouldn't flush. They came out and snaked it for $165 and left. It worked for maybe three flushes before it wouldn't flush. Clearly something was still clogged. I called back the next day and someone else came out and offered to snake it again but would charge me again. They told me I needed a new toilet and that it would be about $900. I knew that was ridiculous so I told them I wanted them to leave it alone and I called someone else. They came out and snaked it and was able to find what was clogging it. It took about 5 mins and they charged me half the price of michael and sons snaking price. What a scam. I will make sure to always tell people to never trust this terrible company. I mean I get it's commission based but really? Never again. read more

RIP off - my wife in a senior community had our water heater replaced. She wanted to take care of it while I was at work. $2,200 is what they charged, when I questioned this charge which is $1200 more than my neighbors - I was told by a person who says he sets the price that this was right. BS . There was nothing in this closet except the water heater (50 gallon) - the job could not be easier. You do not have to get an estimate $2,200 is there good price. Do not let them give you that sales pitch that their estimate goes into their price - most companies count on you falling for this. GO TO A OTHER COMPANY - hey Len the plumber might be be more honest. read more

After my poor initial experience with the company, a company rep called me to explain that they are experiencing some growing pains currently. He apologized and offered to essentially price match any other estimates I had. While I decided to just have a handy man install the ceiling fan, I would consider giving Michael and Sons a second chance because it seems like they are genuinely trying to turn their business around. read more

Years ago in 2014, Michael and Sons installed a surge protector on our air conditioning unit. This year, we had another company come and do our annual check up and they told us that we have a surge protector that was recalled years ago. Well, Michael and Sons never told us about the recall and when we called, they blew us off, never returned the three calls and my husband finally found a General Manager who told us that he could remove it if we paid $89 for another checkup. It is our understanding that the recall on the surge protector is because it could explode. Michael and Sons work daily with electricity so they should understand the concern and danger. Michael and Sons annual checkup is not nearly as in-depth as the one received from H.R.Furr. You have been warned, find a more reliable company. read more

I feel robbed and taken advantage of. I was charged almost twice what my service should cost for a basic repair. The problem is that as you have an inch of water in your basement even if you know you are being ripped off it's hard to not just move forward. That's why you hope to deal with honest people that quote you an honest price. That's actually on their website but when I called them on it, their manager tried to liken their work to a doctor's office and then when I told him that was an insane comparison he went on to tell me but we have to come to your house. Actually, all plumbers have to do that so everyone's prices reflect needing to come come to a customer's house. The bottom line is a repair that should have cost about $350 TO $425 and if you google has a top end of 533, they charge 60% above that PLUS the cost for the emergency call. In other words, according to their management since they charge the emergency price they actually charge that normally. When you are in a vulnerable position where you need something fixed, people can take advantage of you. This company did, I complained and the manager who finally called me back ultimately hung up on me when his silly explanations were not accepted. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF AND CONTRARY TO THEIR WEBSITE THEY ARE NOT JUST EXPENSIVE BUT DO NOT OFFER ANYTHING RESEMBLING A FAIR PRICE. read more

Terrible customer service. Started electrical work in early October didn't finish till November. Tech kept showing up late leaving early or not showing at all. When called about issues they told me a manger would call me back. Instead the tech I had issues with did. Very awkward and uncomfortable. I had told them I wanted someone else to come complete the work before the tech called me then I had to explain to him as well that I didn't want him coming back. They were not prompt on sending someone else to finish the work. Had to wait a week for them to come out for a very quick fix. I waited 2 days for a manager to call me back upon initially reporting the issue...no call back. Had to keep following up to find out anything. That happened constantly. Really not worth the money you are paying for the service you get. Will never hire again after my experience. read more

For 1. Completely overpriced. 85 for the visit & 135 to re-light the pilot light lol. The guy started to look at the furnace & than noticed the pilot light was out. He then requested matches & proceeded to light the pilot light. Later during the cashing out period. He then stated that lighting the pilot light was an additional price. He never once stated that prior to acting on the light. We weren't given an assessment about the rest of the furnace. We were told "Yea it's old, it will need to be replaced sooner than later" the receipt states "full assessment & to test for consistency" which neither happened. 2. 50 mins late. 2pm-4pm was the window. Guy arrived at 4:50 pm. No apology or acknowledgment of being late Not happy with how the service went. Definitely will not be calling or referring them. & to be honest I would like a 135 dollar refund. read more

I have never encountered a company this unprofessional or disrespectful. The 1 star I gave them is considered a compliment and only because it's the only way to write a review. From the moment this man walked into my house he was disrespectful and rude. I've never encountered someone representing a company in his manner. He first began with his attitude and acted as though him doing his job was a bother and an inconvenience to him. Then because our landlord didn't answer her phone on the first attempt he came in and said that he was not going to perform the job, wouldn't be coming back and he would be considering this as a missed appointment. She answered the phone as soon as I called her. He proceeded to argue with my husband about his time being wasted. If it was up to me I would have told him to leave at that point. He then stomped around my house troubleshooting the problem. Once the problem was found he quoted an insane to replace a $6.00 piece. He was then informed by my landlord we would not be proceeding at that rate so pulls my front door open, stomped up to my bathroom to grab his tools and on the way out of the house he told my husband to fix it himself and left. I was glad because I wouldn't want anyone with such unprofessionalism to perform any job. This was my first experience with Michael & Sons and will be my last. I am going to post this review anywhere I can because that man should be fired. I would never have people like him representing my business to go inside people's homes to argue with them and then run out the front door telling the customer "to fix it himself." H read more

7.29.16 Final update- they came back to make things right.. I absolutely will recommend the electric division. They came back to fix a outlet in my kitchen and were super professional. I almost thought it was a different company. They sent me an email with a bio and photo of the guy that was coming to my home which was nice. I knew who to expect. When he arrived he clearly explained what needed to be done and gave me recommendations on other things to do within my house. The cost was fair and the work was great so I'm happy. **7.5.16 update- the management team has reached out to me via phone to apologize for the things that went wrong during the initial visit. I appreciate their response and their commitment to customer service and am hoping things get better from here. If warranted I will update my rating at a later time. Now I see why they have such low reviews and why they were handing out gift certificates like candy.. I "won" a pretty large gift certificate with them and was excited as I was a new home owner and it felt comforting having something like that in my pocket. Well a tiny leak presented itself in my bathroom and I figured I would take care of it while it was small so that it wouldn't become something large. I emailed them and should have realized something was off when the email communication was off. After about a week and a half of emails I was able to set up an appointment. The first time the plumber came out it was a quick diagnosis without doing any work since he claimed to not have any tools with him. He then scheduled a follow up for two days later. Since the first visit I was 5 mins late (and he made sure I knew it) I left work early and rushed home only for them not to show up and they didn't even inform me until I called them to ask questions. He finally arrived at 7:50am the next morning. The "leak search" caused him to cut three giant holes in my wall. He claimed he would cut neat holes but they were far from it. But of course he "knows a guy" that could fix it. No thank you!! Once he found the leak he proceeded to attempt to fix it, or so I thought. About an hour in he informed me that he could not fix it and I have to call a carpenter to remove my tile shower so he could work. I politely said no thanks and he cleaned his mess and left. I went to test the shower so that I could explain the issue to the next plumber and my bathroom basically showered on me, water everywhere!!! Ugh! So I called them back and requested that they send someone else to correct the issue. Because not only did he screw up but he left blood on the walls in my bathroom. I'm not sure what he was doing but the fact that I had to clean up another persons blood is disgusting! In comes Jason (the only reason they got any stars). After waiting and wasting most of my Saturday Jason came in to save the day. He was super personable and knowledgable. He came in and in 15 mins completely fixed the issue that the other guy made. He clearly explained everything to me and had me walk away a happy customer. If for any reason you decide to use this place I highly recommend requesting that they send out Jason. I don't know that I would trust them to do anything in my home again though. Thank you Jason because you completely turned that day around! I will say that they had someone follow up with me about the first plumber making the issue worse. I do hope that there are some additional classes or trainings in place for him. I work in property management and if one of my maintenance guys left an apartment bathroom like that I would have some serious issues with them. read more

I had read mixed reviews about Michael & Son but I had a coupon so I tried them anyway. I called on Monday and got an appointment for Tuesday morning. There is a $29 dispatch fee whether you get work done or not. I was given a time frame of 8-12. The plumber called around 8 to tell me he would be there in 45 minutes. When he arrived, not only did he wear boot covers, he brought his own Michael & Son doormat to place outside of the door to stand on while he put the boot covers on. I love this! The plumber was very knowledgeable and he offered additional home maintenance suggestions without being pushy or overbearing. He fixed my leaky pipe very quickly and the price wasn't too painful ($219 total for parts, labor and dispatch fee). Someone from the company called shortly after the plumber left to make sure that I was satisfied. I would use them again. read more

Overpriced and did not see the job through to completion. I called Michael & Son because of a burst pipe and water damage in my basement. They said they would take care of the job. Here's what happened: Two guys (very professional and courteous) came over, tore out the carpet padding and baseboards, set up a big dehumidifier and fans, did mold and mildew treatment, and left. This was only in a 6ft by 8 ft area. They came back a day early and picked up the equipment. -- $2,200. I should have went to an equipment rental place and done it myself. Lesson learned. The basement still smells like mildew. When I called back about scheduling to get the carpet padding and baseboards installed, and to get the drywall fixed, they said that I was not in the service area for those jobs. I live in the middle of Baltimore. If they can send techs out to do the first 1/3rd of a job, why can't they send out people to see it through to the end? So, my basement is in disarray -- carpet has no pad, baseboards are gone, furniture out of place, holes in drywall, and it still smells. They will not send anyone out to finish it. So, for about an hour and a half of labor and an incomplete job -- $2,200. Use someone else. read more

My furnace stopped blowing heat in the middle of February! I called Michael & Son. The service fee was about $85. My Dad needed a simple toilet replacement, since he was upgrading his toilet to a new chair-height model. We didn't have much time to shop around, so Dad told me to just hire Michael & Sons. When I called them, they wouldn't give any sort of estimate over the phone - not even a ballpark range, but they warned that if they came out to the house and then we declined their on-the-spot estimate, they would charge a $69.00 fee! This was a big red flag, but since we were short on time, we hired them anyway. On the day of our appointment, our technician (not a licensed plumber) was extremely late! He didn't arrive until 2 1/2 hours after the end of our appointment window. When he finally arrived, he showed me a list of fixed prices in his phone that he was required to charge for each type of service! To be clear, Michael & Sons has a fixed price for replacing an owner-supplied toilet that all their technicians are required to charge, so there was absolutely no excuse for them refusing to disclose that to me over the phone when I asked! And by the way, their prices are nearly double the going rate, which is why they don't want to tell you any pricing over the phone. They want to get the technician out to your house before you find out how much of a ripoff they are, so they can at least try to stick you with a $69.00 fee when you turn down their outrageous prices! read more

Updating my original review. The work they did on the day of installation was great. But about a week later, the patch in the driveway from where they'd dug down to fix the line started sinking. I had to make15 phone calls over two weeks (I know that's the number because I wrote down when I called and who I spoke with each call) to get a crew to come out and fix it. I called every single day, and each day was told they'd call me back within 24hrs to schedule the crew. In two weeks, I had zero returned calls. THEN, we realized they missed that our kitchen had a separate drainage system that comes down through the garage and that it needed to be attached to the new sewer line. The kitchen sink/dishwasher backed up, and still another crew had to come out and attach our kitchen plumbing to the new drain line. Can't recommend them. read more

I had to ask Maurice Noori to stop responding to me and contacting me with messages telling me they would fix my sidewalk for an additional cost. I also had to contact City Council in my district regarding my experience. An investigation was initiated by the Baltimore City Office of Demolition and Construction. Based on the feedback, the company has now improved greatly. I am taking this from a negative 5 to positive 3. Would never recommend or use them again. We called them because of a clogged kitchen drain on a Friday and our regular plumber wasn't available until Monday. After looking under the sink for 30 seconds they told us it would cost $375 to unclog it!! $375?!?!?!? I asked the technician about the $99 drain cleaning special on their website but they said that didn't apply. It was fixed and they were gone within 25 minutes. $375 for 25 minutes to snake a drain?!?!? When I called to ask how they came up with pricing I was referred to the plumbing manager Michael who took over a week to call me back. When I asked about the $99 drain special he said that because I didn't ask for it on my initial phone call they couldn't do that. But if I had asked in the initial phone call they "definitely" would have only charged $99. However after looking at their website again it does not say that it must be asked for during that initial phone call. This is copy and pasted from their website: $99 Drain Cleaning Special! *Restrictions apply, limited to one secondary indoor drain only up to main line. No mention of the fact that it MUST be mentioned during initial phone call. I figured mentioning it to the technicians would be enough but according to Michael there can be no change in pricing once the technicians are out. He refused to work with me on the price and honor the $99 special. If it wasn't that it was a Friday afternoon and I wanted the use of my kitchen for the weekend I would have asked them to leave.
