I needed to find someone for my wedding dress alterations. I'm a tiny human being (5'1" 100lbs) so I was nervous about making this beautiful lace dress of mine fit properly. I did my due diligence and read a million Yelp reviews, which led me to Mia's. Let me tell you - I could not have made a better choice. From the moment I walked in I felt welcomed. Mia made me feel incredibly comfortable and confident in my choice. When I went back to pick up my dress, it fit like glove. My dress was all lace with detailing on the bottom, so when altering, Mia had to cut off the lace detail bottom, hem the dress, and then resew the lace detail on. Not once but twice, because I had a last minute shoe change. She took this dress I was swimming in and made it fit perfectly. Mia is AMAZING!! First off, she's the sweetest person and was a complete pleasure to work with. Secondly, she's SO GOOD at what she does! She altered two wedding dresses for me. My ceremony dress was very heavy with a long train and she made it fit like a GLOVE! I went to her at least 4-5 times because I was losing weight and she had no issues making it smaller each time. Because the train was so long, it wasn't possible to bustle it under the dress (french) or traditionally. She created a way of bustling it by sewing buttons and hooks all over the inside of the dress and even color-coded the buttons and hooks so my bridesmaids could easily bustle it for me. My reception dress simple but she completely transformed it for me. She adjusted the straps, completely changed the neckline (a week before the wedding) and added the most beautiful bow on the back. I brought her the material and it was no easy task to make the bow as the material was somewhat thick and hard to work with. She told me she made it three times to make sure it was perfect. It turned out better than I could have imagined. She was very responsive to all my texts and calls and was flexible scheduling me, even when I had to move my appointments around. I saw work that she did for other customers such as suits and pants, you name it, and all the work she does is exceptional. Don't look elsewhere!! After I made an appointment and walked into her cute studio, I could tell by how many other folks were there, that her services were in demand. She expeditiously moved through all her clients and I didn't have to wait long for a wedding dress fitting. I HIGHLY suggest not delaying your alterations, as she has lots of customers wanting her services - so allow yourself plenty of time before you need the final garment. I gave this review because Mia accused my body of gaining weight and judged me instead of TAILORING the clothes to fit me. Tailors can do their job without remarking at all about someone's body size. It's frankly none of their business- fitting clothes to it is. Also, bodies are allowed to change. If mine had, why on Earth did I have to be punished for it? At first I never wanted to talk about this experience again but I found out that the same thing happened to a good friend who was using her at the same time-Mia told her the reason her wedding dress wasn't fitting was because she gained weight and needs to lose it. This is impossible, as my friend is a collegiate runner. This feels like every woman's nightmare. I brought my wedding dress to Mia for tailoring 5 months ahead of time. It already fit great and had fit for the entire year that I had previously had it (Covid). It just needed a few simple alterations, cups brought in, a hemline, and the straps moved up. At the third meeting, it was so small I couldn't zip it up or breathe. She blamed me for gaining weight in front of all the other customers, and asked if I was pregnant. I have not gained weight for years and have battled disordered eating. I asked what happened and didn't get a square answer. She said it looked better when it was too tight. But I could not breathe! I asked for her to please take it out. The next visit, she didn't. My sister who was with me was speechless. I took it to another tailor to get last minute help, and they showed me that there was room to take it out but that Mia wouldn't want to because she would have to remove the lace and sew it back on. Because I paid her $600, I had to go back to Mia to demand her to do her job. It was heartbreaking to be so misunderstood. I really disliked dealing with someone who was so judgmental and pushy. With two days to my wedding to spare, I finally got it from her. It was still too tight but sort of workable. It was the most stressful thing I could have ever imagined.
