I love this restaurant. The food is good, it's cheap and service is fast. I ordered the $20 combo that comes with a drink, appetizer, and entree. Very good, worth the price.
Great Chinese spot in SCP! They have some reasonable deals and the food tasted great. There have been times when the line was super long but usually it's not too bad to get seated. Overall all the signature items are probably safe to order.
Came here on a whim for lunch! Filling and not too pricy. My mom and I came here on a weekend lunch, small line but went quickly waiter only 10 min. They have table and counter seating, relatively spacious. They specialize in noodle and dumplings, have combo and à la carte option. We share the beef noodle soup combo with spicy dumplings and passion fruit tea, also ordered cucumber in the side. Beef noodle soup (8.5/10)-did less spicy and it was perfect large portion noodles were perfectly cooked beef was tender and chunky Spicy dumplings (8/10)-for the sauce on the side glad we did since it was spicy, but dumplings were plump and large wish skin was thinner Passion fruit tea (9/10)-refreshing and fruity good on summer day Cucumber (6/10)-not very crunchy but portion is large and good deal for $5.00 We spent $35 which is a good deal for the portion. Service is fast and food is delicious! Would love to come back and try the other noodle dishes.
Mian packs the heat and the flavor! Best appetizer: Chili Oil Chao Shou for its tender dumplings swimming in a tangy, spicy chili oil. For non-spicy starters, Shredded Tofu Skin, Seaweed Salad, and Pickled Cucumbers are nice, light, and refreshing. The Beef Roll Pancake was okay but with so many stronger dishes on the menu, it's probably not one I'd order again. Their noodles are amazing! The Golden Soup Chicken Noodle has the best broth - rich, savory, milky, and deeply comforting. The Spicy Beef Soup Noodles come loaded with tender beef. The Mapo Tofu Noodles carries silky tofu, spicy sauce, and a gentle numbing kick. The lively atmosphere, vibrant decor, and buzzing energy made me feel like I was dining in the middle of a bustling street market. Plenty of seating too - equally great for a solo noodle run or a group feast. Service was fast and efficient, though during busy rushes you may need to wave someone down for a quick reminder. Overall, a fun, flavorful spot that delivers on both atmosphere and Sichuan comfort food.
Came here on a Tuesday and were seated immediately. This restaurant chain earned a Michelin star in 2021. It is located downstairs from Din Tai Fung. They offer three levels of spiciness. Mild is already spicy and tongue tingling. If you are looking for spicy this is the place to come.
You know, it really is true when they say, "when one door closes, another opens". Because, as disappointing as it was to have our initial dinner plans foiled by the long line at Din Tai Fung (our fault for not having a reservation, but a two and a half hour wait on a weeknight?!), things didn't turn out all that terribly for us. After all, it's hard to be too upset when it led to us eating at such an awesome spot like Mian! Located on the first floor, directly underneath the perpetually busy Din Tai Fung, what prompted us to come here when we did may have been because it was the nearest alternative we saw, but I imagine we would have ended up here at some point anyways. For one, the decor and the artwork on their walls, in particular, are pretty eye-catching, but mostly, the menu is pretty enticing. Although it may not be super extensive, Mian has a solid selection of dishes to offer, from their Chili Oil Chau Shou, Spicy Beef Noodle Soup, and Mapo Tofu Noodles to their Thousand Year Egg with Tofu, Fried Pumpkin Pancake, and Spicy Beef Rib Noodle Soup. In short, there's plenty to choose from! -- THOUSAND YEAR EGG WITH TOFU I was super excited to try this, but, sadly, it ended up being more okay than great. The slices of tofu were decent, albeit really thin, and the eggs themselves were awesome, but the preserved vegetables on top were a bit overwhelming. -- CHILI OIL CHAO SHOU To me, the portion felt a bit light, but, to be fair, it's also because I just wanted more of this! The dumpling was perfect - the skins had just the right thickness (had a nice chew) and the filling was so meaty. Plus, the chili oil was terrific and had just a touch of heat! -- SPICY BEEF NOODLE SOUP Ehh...more solid than spectacular. The noodles were tender and the broth was decently flavorful. However, the chunks of beef felt a little inconsistent to me - some pieces were juicy while others were a bit on the chewy/tough side. -- CHENGDU ZA JIANG NOODLES While it wasn't the prettiest dish to look at, this tasted great. There was a good amount of meat and vegetables and I liked the slight kick that the sauce had. I just wish there had been more noodles to balance how much meat/veggies this had. Between how good the food is, the solid service (the workers were friendly and quick), and how convenient of an option they are, Mian is awesome spot, whether you're already going to be at South Coast or not. What's more, the prices here are relatively budget friendly as well, especially when compared to how much you might end up spending at Din Tai Fung (ignoring the fact that they're not exactly alike). Add all of that together and it makes me more than a little excited to come back whether it be here or at their outpost back home in the Bay Area!
pros: friendly service, clean tables cons: n/a we ordered the signature beef noodle level 2 spicy, golden chicken soup, steamed egg, pickled cucumbers, and iced lemon tea the signature beef noodle soup was not spicy at all, i felt like the broth tasted watered down/plain, just wasn't reminiscent of traditional beef noodle soups i had in the past. the golden chicken soup was ok, the pulled chicken was chewy and tough. the steamed egg was also ok, it was soft and silky but the flavor was just ok the lemon tea had a strong fragrance but the flavor was lacking everything was just ok, nothing stood out to me for me to want to return, if i was shopping at the mall and didn't want to wait at marugame i'd pop in here
Mian offers a really enticing combo meal option that is priced between $20-$25. I chose the $25 dollar combo with Chili oil dumplings, spicy beef noodles, and a drink. In today's economy, this is a steal! Portion is really fair and I had leftover. No complaints about the quality of the food. It's authentic and has good flavors.
4.5 stars I first tried Mian when they had their location in Las Vegas (with free mung bean soup!). I finally got a chance to try this location in South Coast Plaza. There was no wait for a party of two to be seated on a Saturday around 1:30PM. The interior is not that large but there are a good number of tables and the decorations are beautiful. Service was fine but minimal due to ordering via QR code. They have combination deals where you choose an appetizer, noodle dish, and beverage for $20-25 + tax, a pretty good deal. We tried two such combos and enjoyed the crispy cucumbers, golden soup wontons, hot and sour noodles, and spicy intestine noodles. We ordered passionfruit green tea and mung bean soup as our drinks. The food came out promptly. All of the food was tasty with generous portions. The golden soup has the tastiest broth in my opinion, and the mung bean soup was super refreshing. You can't go wrong with Mian for an affordable and tasty meal!
such a good combo deal. you get a drink, appetizer, and an entree! i got the boba milk tea, spicy beef noodle soup, and a chicken cutlet. the spicy beef noodle soup was very flavorful and the noodles have a good chewy texture. the noodles are on the thinner side but still good! the chicken cutlet was also really good and crispy! the only thing i would pass on was the boba milk tea. i'd get a different drink next time. you order on your phone and the food comes out pretty fast! will come back again!
I ordered the Combo B which comes with a drink, appetizer and a dish for $25.99. I ordered the passion fruit green tea, chili oil dumplings and spicy beef noodle soup. The passion fruit green tea was very refreshing. The chili oil dumplings and spicy beef noodle soup were both flavorful and cooked very well, but it was lacking a bit of spice. To order your food, you scan the QR code on your phone but the staff was very friendly and helpful making sure we weren't having any trouble ordering from our phones and helping us navigate the menu and giving recommendations based on our food preferences. They would clear our table of any extra empty dishes to give us more room. The service was very attentive and friendly.
Came for their Combo set deal and it was very filling! The potions are great if you're looking to share between two people and don't want to get exceptionally full. If you order the combo for yourself, you will definitely feel very satisfied. Beef Noodle Soup (8.5/10) Not very spicy, great noodle texture, and balanced broth. This is a great beginner beef noodle soup due to the rich flavors, tender beef pieces, and mild spice. Spicy dumping (6.5/10) Love the garlic flavor and chillies that compliment the dumplings well! However the wrapper was a tad too thick and the filling felt like it was missing something. Beef Roll Pancake (7.5/10) Great flakey texture from the pancake and wrapped tightly into a roll. I definitely enjoyed the balance of cucumber and onions. The sauce used was a tad sweet in my opinion. The service was fast and using the table QR code to check out made the experience accurate and efficient. I enjoyed that there were photos on the ordering page so you can see the dishes! I appreciated the servers for coming to check in with us frequently.
We had dinner here the other night. It is located inside South Coast Plaza on the level below Din Tai. So there is ample parking. The restaurant itself is charming and has a fun vibe. We both got the $25.99 Signature Combo. You get your choice of drink, an appetizer and one of the signature bowl of noodles. For an extra $3 you can add a dessert. We got the brown sugar ginger tea and the passionfruit green tea. Both were so refreshing and tasty. For our appetizers we got the chili oil dumplings. We loved the flavor and the heat on the dumplings. The dumplings themselves were soft and filled with pork. We got the spicy sparerib noodles. I loved the bok choy. The noodles were fresh and bouncy. The meat fell off the sparerib bones. The broth was rich, warm and delicious. For dessert we got the brown sugar rice cakes. Soft, sticky mochi texture and the brown sugar was the right amount of sweetness. The pumpkin cakes were soft and delicious. I loved the grated coconut on top. In addition to the signature combo, we added spicy cucumbers. They were crispy and just the right amount of heat. The vegetable fried rice was delicious and so flavorful that we ate all of it. We also got a cold combo with seaweed salad, wooden mushrooms and beef. It was perfect to break up some of heat from the noodles and dumplings. Wonderful service and large portions will make this your new soup noodle spot.
This place always seems busy but never too crowded where you can't get a table. You get seated and order at the table via QR code. Your food is brought to you and you check out afterward like normal. We got the spicy beef noodle soup and noodle soup with intestines. Also got chili oil dumplings to share. Soups were nice and comforting but the dumplings were just okay. Ambience is nice and service was quick. Will be back soon! read more

We knew that it was OC Restaurant Week this week and made plans to have lunch there today after an appointment elsewhere. Daughters had never been to the restaurant before. I believe that I have been once a while's back with my husband. Howard the staff member asked if it was our first time at the restaurant. He said that we could order using the QR code. I asked if the OC Restaurant Week menu would be on there. He said that he would bring the menus to us. He returned with the menus and a carafe of water and 3 cups for us. He gave us some time to look over the menus and came back once again to take our orders. Older daughter ordered from the $25 lunch menu Chili Oil Dumplings, Tomato Beef Noodles, and a hot brown sugar ginger tea. Other daughter ordered from the $20 lunch menu Pickled Cucumbers, Chengdu Zajiang Noodles, a lime passion fruit tea and added Pumpkin Rice Pancakes for an extra $2.50 for dessert. I ordered also from the $20 lunch menu the Seaweed Salad, the Golden Soup Chicken Noodles, and a strawberry smoothie. The seaweed salad and pickled cucumbers were delivered by a woman from the kitchen. Another man brought the strawberry smoothie and in error the brown sugar milk tea. We informed him of the drink error when he came with the last drink of the lime passion fruit tea. He went and redid the drink and brought back the hot brown sugar ginger tea taking away the wrong drink. Our noodles came out next. The Golden Soup Chicken Noodles was exactly what I had wanted on this cold, windy day. It wasn't salty and it was rich in sweetness. I liked the bok choy in the soup and would not have minded if there were more. I also liked how the chicken meat was shredded. The hot appetizer of Chili Oil Dumplings had been forgotten and wasn't brought until the person who ordered them was halfway through her noodle dish. She had to rinse off some of the hot spicy sauce. We had come at around 11:40 a.m. before peak lunch time and as we were eating the surrounding tables began to fill. The restaurant is modern with neon signs and clean. Tables line the sides with a high bar top in the center. Husband wasn't able to join us for lunch and we ordered to go a beef roll and chicken cutlet. The pumpkin rice pancakes were delicious hot. They were glutinous, fried, sweet, sprinkled with coconut and had lotus seed filling? Our takeouts were brought to the table. We needed to ask for to go containers. We were able to pay at our table with a mobile device that Howard carried around. Girls said that they would return again for soup noodles. We learned that mung bean soup which is served can help with any spiciness from dishes. read more

Mian in South Coast plaza serves some authentic northern Chinese style noodles! You order using their app and the orders come out to the same table. I really liked the pig trotter noodle soup. It wasn't too sticky and the flavor was bomb. It was the right amount of pepper and salt and not overly strong or overwhelming. Line is usually long, expect like a 30-40 min wait to get a seat. It's quite busy and bustling inside. The space is pretty small and the workers are constantly moving in between tables. read more

TLDR: It was just so oily... MIÀN is South Coast Plaza's newest restaurant! We were in the mood to try out something new and decided to give them a shot. My party ordered a variety of their noodle dishes. I personally went with the Chengdu Zajiang Noodle. Everyone found things to be overly oily. Almost to the point of being unenjoyable. I understand that chili oil is an essential component in these dishes, but everything just tasted like straight up oil. No other flavors. Maybe we just caught them on an off day? I would say that out of all the dishes mine was the best, but it was still just okay at best. read more

Went here for their OC restaurant week from 3/8-3/14 AYCE for $30 and drinks for $5. I've bookmarked this place for a while but haven't made it out. I had to stop by since it was such a good deal to try out many of their dishes. Ordered soy milk, steamed egg, beef noodle soup, beef rolls, cucumbers, spicy dumplings, brown sugar boba, and mung bean icy for a total of $56 before tax and tip but paid$35. I wanted to try more but their portions were all full sized and my tummy is only so big. I comforted myself that the prices are reasonable even without the deal so I'll definitely be back to try all the other dishes in the future. My favorite were the fresh soy milk and beef rolls. Came here on Friday around 3pm and restaurant was 20% full and by 4pm, all tables were taken except the long bar table. Nice clean ambience. Staff was friendly and helpful and food arrived within 5 minutes of ordering. read more

This is my third time trying anything Sichuan and I can 100% say it's definitely an acquired taste. Just like how everyone's palettes are different, the food here is good if you're into the wasabi sensational kind of spice. Unfortunately for me, I'm not a fan of the tingling sensation and peppercorn spice so this place was not it for me. I tried the cucumbers, Chinese donuts, chili oil dumplings, and mapo tofu with noodles. The cucumbers were my favorite because something about the way it was pickled was just right! The dumplings and mapo tofu had a very strong taste of the mala spice which after a few bites, I couldn't do it. I will say, the portions are pretty good sized and definitely shareable! The service here was fantastic! They were super busy when we came, but even then they checked up on us and we never felt forgotten. The restaurant itself is average sized and is located right below Din Tai Fung. We waited about 10 minutes for a table and maybe 15 minutes for food. You can order with a server or right from the QR code. Overall not my kind of restaurant, but I can definitely see people who are into this kind of spice really enjoying this spot. read more

Always passed by this place whenever I ate at Din Tai Fung located right above it and I was always curious about how it tasted, especially with that Michelin star award hanging proudly on their window. Finally got a chance to go to MIÀN with the wifey on Wednesday night. First thought upon going in was that it had a nice, clean, modern ambiance with a Asian feel. It wasn't busy at all, actually quite empty compared to the gigantic line of people waiting for their table at DTF upstairs but that's probably because we came an hour before they closed. If only the starving people waiting upstairs knew that they could have just went downstairs for some equally delicious Sichuan Chinese food and got sat immediately. I'm usually wary and skeptical of online mobile ordering systems but MIÀN's online menu was very easy to navigate and order items. We ordered the spicy beef rice noodle, beef roll pancake, pickled cucumber, chili oil chaoshou, brown sugar milk tea, and then the sweet iced jelly for dessert. Every single item was delicious. The sweet iced jelly was a bit too sweet but was still good nonetheless. This is one of those moments where the Yelp rating doesn't accurately reflect it's true value. This was definitely a 5-star Sichuan Chinese restaurant in my eyes that deserved its Michelin rating. I don't think I'll be going to DTF anymore tbh. Looking forward to coming back and trying other things! read more

Yummm! We got the spicy beef noodle soup with a side of seaweed. The beef is so tender and the broth has a lot of flavor. Gluten free and Fodmap friendly. Sit down and order via QR code. Food comes out quickly. Located down stairs near forever 21. read more

Located under DTF at South Coast Plaza, we tried this Chinese noodle place for the first time on Friday during late lunch. Not many people in line, so we were seated almost right away. You order online via their QR code and everything comes out all together. Pro tip: you can order MORE after you place your original order! I didn't know and the first dish to arrive was my dessert. All the servers were helpful- there isn't one set server for our table. The restaurant is a bit small & tables are close, just like a little shop in Asia! Food was solid- good flavor, served quickly after ordering, and good portions. I took off a star because some dishes were spicier than we anticipated (even though we got the same spice levels), and the jelly dessert had a little bit of an herbal taste to it (which I wasn't fond of). Overall, I'd come back again if I was in the area. The appetizers were my favorite. read more

Mian is fancy! Mian is Boogie! Honestly, Mian and Boogie should be synonyms, but is it scrumptious? Located inside the South Coast Plaza Mall, its no wonder that this place comes out as 'wannabe' boogie. Known for their Sichuan-Style noodles from China, Mian has locations all over the country. When we entered this local it honestly felt like we were transported to a different country. You have to order and pay directly from the QR code they give you, which is something I've done before whenever in Asia, so it wasn't anything out of the ordinary for me. The staff was okay, not stellar, but just okay. We started off with an order of the House Special Lamb. It was a good amount of meat, with tons of flavor, a bit spicy, but bearable. We also ordered the Chili Dumplings, they were okay, a bit soggy for my liking. We asked for the sauce to be put on the side. Descent, just descent. The main meal was the Chengdu Zajiang Noodles. They come with a sunny-side egg (no runny yolk), veggies, and I ordered an extra amount of noodles. This plate was definitely the best one that we ordered. There is a mesh of flavors, and the noodles are delicious. My only quarrel is that all this above was about 40 bucks! Absolutely boogie! Not sure if I'd return because it is pricey for what you get, but its worth trying at least once. read more
