On first impression the decor of the building strikes me as a hipster Brooklyn bakery so it is a bit cliche but fits what you would expect to be walking into. Prices are fair no complaints there. I ordered a cookies and cream cupcake and a salted caramel cupcake which is simply a chocolate cupcake and a vanilla cupcake respectively topped with flavored buttercream frosting. The actual base cake was baked nicely fluffy and moist firm enough to not crumble in your hands like a lot of cupcakes do but not too firm where you feel like you're eating something that has been sitting out for a while or just came out of the fridge. I enjoyed the cake. The frosting/flavoring was super underwhelming. After you taste it you realize it's more so there for the aesthetic and doesn't really contribute anything to the flavor. In a blind taste test you'd think it was just buttercream frosting with decorations. It doesn't add anything. I could've just gone with a plain chocolate and plain vanilla. The frosting was hard and felt like something out of the fridge and pretty much inedible because of the sheer amount of it. Quite the opposite of the cake that it tops. Not the best cupcake not the worst wish I tried some of the other pastries there because they did look appealing but the basics of what I got being so lackluster won't drive me to return. However if I do I'll try a cake slice or something and see how that is. read more

My family has been to Mia's at least three times now We've tried a variety of things from cookies to cupcakes, chocolate pudding, chocolate, ganache, lobster, tail, carrot, cake, macaroon, and something with Nutella We've tried so many things because nothing has been so incredible that we wanted a second time we shop at Derby Street a lot so it's convenient. My major drive would be that nothing ever tastes fresh the white cake that we've had most recently could only be described as tasting stale. Service is always interesting. Every time we ask for recommendations apparently the people that work there don't sample by or otherwise consume the food there so no one ever says this is good. Or I prefer that instead no guidance. It's all very strange. We want to love it for the proximity, but it's mediocre at best read more

I love a good bakery especially with my sweet tooth. I've had a variety of cupcakes at their NY location and frankly they were too sweet to me and most of my friends but that was years ago. Now this location has opened near me so I gave them another shot! I steered clear of the cupcakes in fear of sweetness overload again. The first thing I noticed was the staff was kind and checked in a lot. But then I noticed basically NOTHING was labeled..... eventually I ended up getting the apple tart and my partner just got a basic butter croissant. BIG disappointment. The croissant was dry and brittle rather than buttery and flakey. This made Costco croissants seem godly! The tart has a good flavor profile but was once again, sweet on sweet in sweet. It was way too sweet for my partner to eat and while I could eat it, it wasn't pleasant. Waste of my time and money for sure read more

I happily spotted the sign for Mia's while I was leaving Derby Street Shops, and I pulled into a spot right in front of the bakery. So far so good! The woman working was very helpful and answered any questions I had. Everything looked delicious, and I was struggling to narrow down what to choose. I opted for the eclair which is always a good standby. I'm a huge fan of trying out new bakeries, and I will definitely be back next time I'm at the shops based on the quality and taste of the eclair. I wouldn't mind spending $6.50 and waiting while several people tried to make a hot chai latte if it was hot, but it was cold. Made with chai tea from a box stored in the fridge. And no microwave. A sign for molasses cookies when ordered informed that they aren't molasses but oatmeal, we don't have a sign for oatmeal raisin cookies. Dry and terrible. $4.24 ridicules. The products are tasteless. The dough based products are all tasteless and very dry. They are in need of some serious talent in the kitchen if they are to survive. I purchased a scone and apple turnover. The turnover dough was tough and dry , filling was out of a can . It was difficult to determine whether it was pie dough or puff dough. Recently tried Mia's today - it was delicious! I got croissants for my family (butter and pistachio) and they were a big hit. The filling in the pistachio was perfectly sweet. It is very pretty inside the store and overall feels clean. It would be nice to have seating and enjoy their coffee with a pastry inside! The service was wonderful, I was greeted when I came inside. The woman who helped me (her name is Maeve) was very knowledgeable about their products and was overall friendly and kind. I would return again to try some of their cake slices! read more
