Normally it takes me days or weeks to write a review. In this case I do not want to wait. I just finished my meal. It was more than good. It was absolutely enjoyable. It was delivered so I couldn't tell you about the service, but frankly I couldn't care. I'm more interested in the taste. I've been monitoring the reviews for some time and I'm in a quandary as to how the restaurant could rank number 24 in yelp. Especially since I've been to all the places in the top 10 and based on the information on line wouldn't step foot in the other 14. The whitefish dip was as good or better than the alleged state leader I went to yesterday on the northern lower. I don't know where trout comes from in Michigan, but it was very fresh and perfectly cooked and seasoned. The restaurant identity is based on local things cooked in the restaurant. Being cooked in the restaurant is normally not something you need to advertise. But in Bay City, where many places are just reselling and reheating what they get from their wholesalers with little or no value added, the model here is admirable read more

I've always liked MI Table but after my visit yesterday I will not be returning. I was in a wedding yesterday and in between the ceremony and the reception we wanted to come and get some drinks and some photos taken. We spoke to the owner prior to this and made sure this was okay and she was told that we were allowed to do so. We did not show up unannounced. When we arrived, there was a girl with reddish hair and glasses and we told her our plan. She was incredibly rude to the maid of honor and then began talking to her co worker about us while giving us dirty looks and telling us we were inconveniencing her. She told us they had a reservation.. in an hour! We wanted 20 minutes for photos. We didn't plan on staying long at all. Not to mention we spent around $300 in drinks, we were paying customers. Would we have been allowed in had we not wanted photos? I'm over this place now due to this one immensely rude girl. We were all very respectful and kind to her and she was nothing but disrespectful, rude and immature. Our family visiting wanted to come for a drink before they left town but after this experience we are planning to go elsewhere and none of us will be returning to this business if they're going to continue employing rude wait staff. read more

I don't know why, but I thought this was a farm to table type restaurant, It's not, I also thought it was "Fresh" food , this was also a fable If you say all the food comes from Michigan, I'll say Gordon's is in Michigan , I don't mind paying for quality food but this is far from quality and a farm in fact it wouldn't make a pimple on quality's ass. Now lets talk about the good, our waiter was very attentive , orders ( food / drinks) were delivered in a timely manner, if 1.5 hrs is timely I had a pizza with a garlic cream sauce , must have forgotten the garlic in that batch because it was bland with absolutely no flavor, the 50/50 burger was actually 100 % fresh thawed,over cooked, dry as sand, hamburger patties from a supplier, they didn't have venison for the 50%, at the end of the day, save your self the disappointment , I hate to say it, but you'll have a better meal at Applebee's read more

I have been here twice in two days. This place is spectacular. Definitely no other place like this in bay city. They are holding true to the farm to table experience. The prices are spot on for the caliber of food they are delivering. I would put this restaurant at the top of the list for top 100 restaurants in Michigan. Simplicity of the menu, execution of dishes, attention to detail, farm to table, and atmosphere all score a ten out of ten in my book. Highly recommended. Keep up the good work. read more

Good food in an old bank building with modern decor. Michigan cherry salad was very good-the chicken was cooked perfectly, which is a rarity in most restaurants. My husband had the whitefish sandwich-perfect combination of flavors on grilled bread. Topped off with a delicious crème brûlée. Service top notch. read more

First off, very cool building. We were set upstairs at the lone table, which was okay since we had a party of 5. Being that far from everything made the service pretty slow, unfortunately. We started with the smoked whitefish dip, which was good, other than only being given 5 crackers. When we asked for more, it seemed like we somewhat pushing the line. I got one of the cheaper lunch items, the venison burger. Came with one tiny tomato and onion and no condiments. That would be fine if the burger itself was super juicy. Unfortunately, the cook was more of a medium well. It had a faint venison taste, but it was nothing special. For $14, I expect something to set it apart. Had breakfast here while in town and it was great! Was way more appealing than any of the other places in the area. You pay for what you get-quality ingredients-made from scratch-will definitely be back next time I visit. My boyfriend and I decided to go out to lunch on Friday before we did some Christmas shopping and we chose MI Table. When you first walk in, the ambiance is pretty nice. The colors are cozy with some greens, blues and tans. Someone came to seat us and she was very friendly. First table she took us to was dirty, she noticed and apologized. Second table she took us to was also dirty but she sat us. Once we got settled in she said she'd be our server as well. We don't drink so I can't say anything about their cocktails, but their bar looked nice and appeared well stocked. Our server brought us waters and there was food floating in mine. It didn't bother me but she didn't replace it for a while since she didn't come to the table often. We ordered pretty quickly but the food took a little long to come out. My boyfriend got the burger and I got the falafel burger. I asked for no garlic aoili or cheese (since I cant eat either), server didn't write our order down so when it came out it had the aoili on it. I scraped it off because my egg allergies are mild, but that could have been a big mess up. His burger was bland (even though he added mushrooms, bacon, and an egg!). I visited with my family as I was excited to try a new place dedicated to Michigan sourced food. Upon walking in, I was impressed by the open interior and contemporary décor. We came a bit before the dinner rush so we were seated right away, but any later and we may have been caught in a decent wait. We started with the Amish chicken pot pie, which had nice presentation with the Michigan shaped biscuits and was also very filling. I had the butternut squash ravioli, which had a nice balance of sweet and savory flavor. Others in our party had the Cornish pasty and the forest green sourdough pizza, both of which were hearty and filling. Our server did warn us at the beginning that it make take a little bit of time to get the food, and while I noticed the wait was longer than usual, it wasn't unreasonable. With it being a newer restaurant, I believe they can work out some of the kinks with time. I stopped in with friends for a Sunday brunch...delicious! I had the Michigan summer eggs benedict and I was very pleased to find perfectly poached eggs and a yummy hollandaise sauce. My husband loved his 50/50 venison beef burger and the waiter was very knowledgable about the menu. Oh! How could I forget about their AMAZING coffee!! I really wanted to like this place as they try to promote the Michigan first theme. Although I should have listened to 3 different people who had horrible experiences there with service and food, I gave it a try. It was 5:30 on a Tuesday and you could have shot a cannon through the place. There was a family of 6 sitting at a table and a couple at the bar. I figured I would sit at the bar and get quicker service. Well that never happened... I waited 10 minutes to even be noticed by the two girls talking and chewing their gum behind the bar. Finally I was asked what I wanted to drink. I said I would like a dirty Martini shaken very cold with blue cheese olives (which they did not have). After two shakes and my drink poured into a glass I was handed my olives in a shot glass because they ran out of toothpicks! The drink tasted only of olive juice and I pushed it aside. I did notice that the bartender went between handling money and not washing her hands to making drinks and putting her hands in the cranberry jar, lemons and limes. I'd assume she should know better to wash her hands. I ordered 2 simple apps.... the goat cheese stuffed dates wrapped in bacon and the beet salad with goat cheese. I figured you can't screw That up.... WRONG! The dates came out and looked like dried up prunes on my plate with dried bacon. When I cut into it there was no cheese to be seen and the bacon fell apart. Clearly sitting in an oven staying warm and brought out as quickly as it was ordered. The server agreed it did not look right and took it back to be "restuffed". I'm not sure how that is possible. Well I got the second set on a different plate and nothing different so I just pushed it aside. The beet salad came out with dry wilted lettuce, dried beets (?) and the pork belly was cold. Again, I just pushed the plate to the side and figured it's time to leave. The manager was very kind and wanted my feedback... I said I'm not sure who is pushing this garbage out of the kitchen but it is unacceptable to eat this. She went on to explain it was the cooks FIRST DAY!!! The CHEF quit 2 hours before they opened. I said well that's a problem and quite honestly your owner should be here at this point. I explained the lack of awareness that I was even there by the two bartenders who kept walking past me. The fact that a man came in after me and sat 4 seats away and went through the same experience ... he was smart and got up and left. There are way too many people working here and doing nothing. There were groups of them standing around talking and doing nothing. I asked how do you run out of toothpicks for a drink at 5:30? She was embarrassed and said she would be taking things up with her staff, but again explained it's hard to get anyone to work because there are always call ins. Again this is a managerial problem, not a patron problem. If this place wants success in a small town they better lower their prices on their lack luster food and start paying attention to the quality of food they are trying to serve. I will not be giving this place a second try. It needs a lot of work from training, cooking and presentation. read more

We went for breakfast. Takes time to get food. Both of the meals we got were good. Enjoyed the flannel and meat hash. Was very tasty. Potatoes/beets well cooked. Very light on meat. Price not bad. However, I had some of my wife's pancakes to feel full. Not looking to be stuffed but expect to feel full after eating and not still possibly feeling hungry. So to me having hash with two pancakes for 9.50 would be better and I think draw more people to the restaurant. Nonetheless food tastes good. A lot of wait staff but wait for food a little long. I think we need more restaurants like this in the area. But free or more breads/starch to feel full will go a long way to get people back. Again tried again to go there last night, Friday, January 7, 2022, and although downtown Bay City was completely packed as were every other restaurant, this one had a sign posted on the door saying they were closed over the weekend to deep clean their place due to Covid! I'm thinking there's probably some other reason more like staff shortages. They could deep clean anytime, and in our current environment, no restaurants are doing this. I'm afraid that if they don't find a way to manage this place better that it will never get legs and remain open. read more

I ordered the Red Flannel Hash and Eggs with roasted beets, potatoes, pork belly, onions, red wine poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. This is not your typical hash. A slice of heaven and something I don't make at home. The bloody Mary was delicious...with a pepper rimmed glass worth licking, something I try to avoid doing in public. We visited the MI Table restaurant within the last week and were very happy with the ambiance, and yes the speak easy vault was a nicely added touch. The restaurant is very clean and very open. I like the Michigan sourced ingredients. I ordered the Mighty Mac beef and it was a very good burger, it was slightly overcooked, however not enough to return. A vegetable garnish or other small side would have been nice to have served at the price. I did order the side salad and fries. The fries were crispy and tasty, the salad was small and greens were bitter. I did enjoy the bleu cheese dressing. The others in our party had the Chicken Pot Pie, yes more like a stew, and also enjoyed their meal. They were not given a salad with their dinner, and our server told us that was for lunch portions only! So, we had to get up and talk with the hostess. The salads were brought over, however, their was no apology from the server. He had not been very friendly from the beginning, however, in this instance, I thought an apology should have been given. Wow what an underwhelming second meal! We had lunch here in early December 2019 and decided to invite 4 couples to join us for dinner. The service was poor with no obvious Manager on duty. It took us an hour to get our "family style" meal of cold whitefish that looked like someone had dropped it on the floor. The mashed potatoes were dry and almost uneditable. The duck meatballs were a highlight. We wanted the pork shoulder but we're told they were out of it...along with about 5 other items which became comical at one point! This place needs to step up its game before we come back to drop $400 on dinner! To end the evening, the dumb waiter could not figure out our bills he got them wrong 3 times! WE had heard about the Fudge Board and decided it was a great idea for my daughters birthday! We visited on Sunday and it was mildly busy, our service as AMAZING. My daughter is an adult and enjoyed a wonderful cup of coffee, as did my husband. Then we ordered the fudge board to share and a flight of floats for my husband. The flight was 5 little glasses filled with Michigan favorite pops and a scoop of ice cream in each. There was red pop, vernors, rock and rye and others. He loved it! The fudge board came and it looked too small for the price. NOT AT ALL, we actually had to do a take out box! 3 piles of fudge slices, apple slices, taffy, popcorn and little Michigan shaped candies, both peninsulas! Easily one of the strangest experiences and meals I've ever had, and I've been to Forks, Washington. Twice. I ordered the Cauliflower Steak, which came out on a sparse plate looking like it had been boiled. No seasoning. Was this a joke? Was I somehow an extra in the medically realistic film "Face-Off", where John Travolta ends up on an off shore oil rig prison and has a food fight in the cafeteria? Was my adolescent brother back in the kitchen, spinning up a wonderfully uncouth meal that we would laugh about for the next 200 years? No. This was real. And the presentation was something for the ages. Minimalism to the degree of Richard Serra but instead of architectural steel, weathered to perfection, it was wet cauliflower. Small cherry tomatoes lined the sides of the soaking wet, stark white organic matter. "Ooooh, what's that?" My friend exclaimed with a level of inscrutable sarcasm. "Oh boy." another muttered. "Happy birthday I guess." A pal asked the server "Could we get a side of bread or garlic bread please?" "No. We ran out." "Ok, thanks I guess." I wondered for the remainder of the weekend if I was dining in one of Dante's lower levels of culinary hell. I am still curious what happened. Was I in some sort of mind jail? Maybe. I hear Elon thinks we may live in a simulation. I think this meal disproved that theory. I'll close with my favorite quote from one of the people I was with. "Do you think it's supposed to be wet? The atmosphere was mix between urban and modern with a touch country farmhouse with the brass light fixtures that were chosen. There was no music playing while we were dining. We went there for lunch we had a party of nine. We waited over 40 minutes for our meals to arrive. We ordered simple items. No fuss lunch. My granddaughter who will be 2 next month was being a little loud simply being a silly, board young child sitting in her high chair with no food. Than sever who was not ours, came up to our table and asked if he could get her some fruit? The server was told, we ordered her a fruit bowl and we were waiting patiently. Keeping two children entertained for 40 minutes with no food was a challenge. Being that we were approached about one of the children, one would assume that he would have relayed the message to get the simple fresh fruit bowl for the child so she can eat. This did not happen. As for the food, the plating was nothing special. The breakfast dishes, eggs, bacon potatoes and French toast, classic breakfast foods, my son reviewed as good. My daughter and I had the Michigan Whitefish sandwich. The sandwich was good. Simple, toast with Chow, Chow sauce which the server could not tell us what was in the Chow Chow sauce along with a tomato slice and French fries that were not hot. The Bloody Mary was great! Hopefully the staff collectively can get into their grove, and each station along with the servers may flow with ease and definitely serve in a more timely manner. Adding a dash more of flavor and having hot French fries before serving would be great! Added note: Loved the restoration of the exterior of the building! I loved the vault door and the original area were the safety deposit boxes were. That room should be cheese and wine area!! All in all support your local small businesses! My fiancé and I were excited to try this new place out! It has a very open feel with contemporary decor. We went on a Friday evening around 6:30 and were told it would be about a 30 min wait. We were fine with this and went up to the mezzanine to sit and wait. Two other people waiting upstairs were served drinks by a server, but we didn't see any cocktail menus, or any menus up there for that matter. The server asked us if we were "good" and we said we were at the moment, and he never came back to check on us again. After waiting about 40 minutes my fiancé went to ask the host about our wait, and wasn't given much of an answer. About 5 minutes later we were seated. The main dining area was so cold I had to keep my coat on, and my fiancé was uncomfortable even in a thick sweater. It seemed everyone else felt cold too as most people dining were wearing their jackets. Our server was polite, not very aware of exactly how to answer our questions though. We decided on our meals, and waited patiently. He noticed his appetizer plate was not clean, so we had a server walking by get us a new one. My dish came with a side salad and after about 15 minutes it came out. I ordered the carrot ginger dressing, but I didn't taste why ginger. It tasted more like turmeric and carrot. Too earthy for me since I was expecting ginger. There were several pieces of greens that were slimy and transparent, leading us to think it was old produce. We told our server and he said he'd let the back know. Awhile passes until we get our food and by then we are starving. I enjoyed my vegan vegetable gratin, but it was under seasoned and very small for the price. My fiancé got the blackened whitefish which was good, but his sweet potatoes were cold so those were sent back for new ones. They are also bland as they were unseasoned. His dish was also a very modest portion for the price. Needless to say, we both left hungry and a little bit underwhelmed. read more

I am excited about the concept of having a farm to table restaurant downtown, a nice addition. I have been there three times now and I would describe it as uneven in service and quality. Today, I met a friend for lunch and we placed our order at 12:10 pm., and at 12:50 when it was not out, we asked the server about our orders. She did not fess up to us, but she had not placed the order, which the manager discovered when she checked the time on the ticket. Our order finally came at 1:10 and it was cold. I had only ordered soup, so no excuse and my friend's grilled cheese was cold as well. The manager ordered new meals and then comped us on the lunch and sent us home with a dessert, the right thing to do and we appreciate that. But clearly there are some issues that need to be worked out for this restaurant to be consistent. My friend had been there just the night before and the server did not know how to serve wine.
