First time visiting with a local resident. The bar staff waited on us and there was one a chef. The staff were attentive. It was late on a Tuesday night. Our party of three ordered garlic parm wings, fish and chips and veggie burger with chips. The chips are homemade and tasty. Fish and chips were tasty. The wings had a different type of batter on them. Not bad, but not what we expected. The veggie burger was not what I expected. Didn't enjoy. Prices were reasonable. They close at 10p. Typical pub food, decor and vibe. I'd return, but not to order the veggie burger. read more

Been going to "The Rat" for years. With this change in ownership (some big time lawyer) I just hope the place doesn't become too litigious. Also, they must keep The Moon Sandwhich. One of my fondest memories was when my dad took me to eat one after I took Scott Biskup yard at South End. Hell of a day. Service was very good recently - the bartenders were fast getting me my favorite order - "snake bites." These are my favorite "shots." When i was in last week, I order fried potatoes which are cut "French" style. They were cooked and seasoned perfectly. The ambiance is perfect for a bar - clean and welcoming. The Rat is where my husband hangs out with the guys he grew up with. Tables are close together, there are TVs everywhere... so they sit and loudly reminisce about high school and drink a lot of Jager and beer. And they love it. Who am I to tinker with their perfection? Drink and food prices are cheap. The waitresses are nice enough. Parking can be a hassle if the area is hopping (tons of bars in this area), but there are two lots nearby plus street parking everywhere. read more

She came over to our table and was rude. Then had a good snarky laugh with her coworker as they glared at our table to laugh. Very unprofessional and insensitive to people with disabilities. We went down the block to River Rock and are enjoying a great meal and some nice folks. Tighten it up Rathskellar. Ate here for the first time tonight. My spouse had their signature burger and I had the crispy chicken wrap. The burger was huge and juicy. My wrap was a large portion also with fresh ingredients on it and the chicken was crispy and not greasy. For sure we will eat here again. Way more than we usually eat. read more

This is a really happening sports bar. They just added a special rooftop antenna so that the blacked out Lions games will be available. The food here is very reasonable and well done. Overpriced and strange priced beer. An import is $3.40 and the loose change builds up in you pocket and by the next hour you are paying beers with change inadvertently pissing the staff off and now i suffer from bad service. The televisions are discolored and not to mention the terrible fried food smell in the place. Hoping we just came on an off night. The place was pretty busy, but after seeing the price of drinks I can see why. Waitress was okay but not too warm. She brought us tartar sauce in lieu of ranch for the fried pickles and then acted annoyed when we asked for the ranch. Fish was okay but the mashed potatoes are some of the worst I've ever had. Tasted like they were straight from the box- almost inedible. I'll give this place another shot because I really want to like it, but I won't get my hopes up. read more

We were very disappointed!...Empty hand sanitizer container, BOTH waitresses on the floor were NOT wearing masks correctly. One had her nose sticking out the whole time, and the other cut an opening for her mouth!! The cook wore his mask under his chin the whole time we were there. Let me start by saying that I could write a novel about how wonderful this place is. But I will try to keep it brief. The food is always good, always consistent, and always inexpensive. It IS "bar food," but it is very good bar food! The staff ALL share tips, so if the bartender needs to pee, the cook will fill your drink, and vice versa. This leads to OUTSTANDING customer service. The Rat is like Cheers, where everyone knows your name (or at least your drink!). Alcohol is also very reasonably priced for the area. The atmosphere is much more laid back than the average crazy Midland Street bar, and you can actually have a conversation here without shouting. Finally, on a personal note, my husband and I had our first date here, got engaged here, and came here after our wedding- we call it our second living room! read more
