My wife and I were visiting Bay City for the first time and needed a late night meal. Being a Sunday night the kitchen was closing at 10pm and even though we only had three minutes to order, our waiter Pat, just told us he would get the order in. Although they were fairly busy the food came out in 10 minutes. We ordered fried mushrooms, they were the usual you get anywhere but for the price, it was above average in quantity! I love salads so I ordered a side salad thinking it would be small and a start to my meal, it was huge for a side salad. I was full after my salad and a few mushrooms. The grilled cheese and crinkle fries were tasty and portion size was way more than expected for the price. Now to the best meal of all...the Monte Cristo was AMAZING paired with sweet potato fries!!! My wife ordered this and I have never had it so I tried a bite, WOW! Portion sizes compared to price were outstanding! I can't say enough good about my experience. They are located right next to the river so be sure to walk over and take in the water. read more

Another home run for this long time Bay City staple! My husband is obsessed with the sweet chili wings... Says they're the best he's ever had! Everything else on the menu was amazing. My son loves the fish. My daughter loves the tenders and I love almost every sandwich they have. Service is always great... Sometimes sassy but that's what's fun about it! I got the hangover fries and my daughter got a gyro and seasoned fries.the hang over fries weren't bad but they could have been better they were not really hot and the bacon had that Gordon food service taste just ok. Okay, you like dive bars? This one fits the bill however it is pretty well lit, but you can't beat the bartenders. They're sassy, loud, and make you feel at home and comfortable the minute you walk through the door. This is a great place filled with regulars of course being in downtown Bay City, but it's definitely a friendly vibe and makes you want to hang out and do a couple shots. read more

Waitress was friendly, and service was quick even though they were busy. The food was so good. My husband and I both ordered burgers and they were cooked just right. He got a side of crinkle fries and I got onion rings. We both finished our entire meal - perfect portions! Nothing fancy. Place to go for fried pre packaged frozen food (Not an exaggeration when one of the cooks is walking through the restaurant with an armful of bagged frozen food). Good service, good beer selection on tap, infamous long islands. Mulligans is what I would call "just ok". It's a cool bar that has an old school vibe that I like but the food is so so and so has the service been the few times I've been there. It doesn't have the range of Irish bar food other Irish pubs have. ( scotch eggs, Sheppards pie, corned beef and cabbage, Irish pub chips, Guinness based stews, etc. ). Lots of sandwiches and oddly several Mexican type dishes like nachos and taco salads. I'm not saying it's bad. It isn't. But the menu does not reflect an Irish pub. When we went, the waitress was awesome, but she was the only one serving the entire bar/restaurant. Entire place. So... that made things challenging. She was super sweet and doing her best. The menu changed from online posts, so I'm attaching the one we got this week. There's only grilled cheese as THE vegetarian option, other than apps. We ordered all apps. Pluses: the appetizers were bigger than expected, especially the fries. Which were great. Also the cheese curds were surprisingly tasty. The onion rings & cheese sticks were good. Not so great: the garlic bread. Don't do it. It's saved by the sauce entirely. FYI: kitchen closes at 10pm and they're serious. The staff is Done by then, so get your orders in. They are Not Kidding. The weird: I echo the "Cheers" vibe, by which I think folks mean you get stared at the entire time you're there by everyone in the bar. But whatever. It's Essexville, nothing else is open except Jets, and you're hungry. Go for it. Be nice to the waitstaff, they showed up for this nonsense. Maybe bring cash so you don't have to wait if they can't make it back for the check. read more

This place is okay, but nothing outstanding! We have tried most other places in Bay City and even though the reviews were not good we thought we would give it a try. I knew to expect greasy bar food and that's pretty much what they have got. Our waitress was very good. She was friendly and service was spot on. My only complaint would be that when she told me the sides that came with my chicken dinner, I thought one of the choices was baked potato and that's what I ordered. When she delivered the mail it look like a little cup of mashed potatoes with bacon sprinkled on top of it. She said it was a twice baked potato. She quickly realized my misunderstanding and offered me a substitution after she delivered the food. I got the Santa Fe chicken dinner and since I wasn't sure about the barbecue sauce I asked for it on the side. The chicken was good and had melted cheese on it and then I just cut it up and dipped it in the barbecue sauce. That dinner came with a salad and I got thousand Island dressing which was pretty good. My friend got a captain jacks fish sandwich with a side of potato salad. He seemed to enjoy his sandwich and he had such a large sandwich that he brought half home. He also enjoyed his potato salad and when he asked the waitress if it was fresh made in house she said "no it was made by Gordon's"!! Too bad - since she could've said they slaved over the kitchen for days since he enjoyed it so much but she kind of ruined the moment!! read more

Burger was cooked to medium which was great, side salad was good as expected, they said they made their own ranch dressing but it wasn't awesome. Wings were ok, only buffalo sauce style, no rubs or other sauces. Not a huge deal but if you prefer dry rubs (me) then you prob won't like. I didn't have anything special to rec to foodies based on this meal but def decent if you're in a group, you can get something for everyone, and it will be fine. read more

I came to find myself at Mulligan's Pub on a frosty February Sunday afternoon. I was struck first by the overwhelming scent of smoked paprika. Turns out they smoke their own spices in house- nice touch! We were seated by our server in the middle of the bar, which allowed me to soak in both the ambiance of the restaurant, and the sounds of the bustling kitchen. My mouth began to water at the sound of crackling bacon. The bartender nicely asked me to wipe up the mess I had made, and the drool came off the enameled table cleanly. It pays to keep a clean place, and Mulligan's knows their stuff! Our server, Taylor took our order. She refused our first choices, so we happily dove back into the menu. I went with the "Ranch Face Plate". Sounded too good to pass up; albeit slightly less appetizing than my first choice. The plate arrived before my coworkers' mess- I didn't mind because boy was I hungry. It was halfway through my meal that my coworker, Saffron, pointed out that I was in a signed photo of Loverboy hanging in the booth adjacent. I had to see for myself! I don't know if they put all their guests in photos of Loverboy, but I thought it was a great touch. Taylor recommended the fresh baked Bunt Cake for dessert, and I said "Bring it on!" About five minutes later she returned with a plate of Tiramisu- delicious! I hope to return for "Disco Wednesday". For now though, I give Mulligan's 5 stars and pronounce it Best Bar in Bay City! read more

One of the ladies in our group recommended this place... Nothing special. Service was fair, the food was fair but not great. My girl ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich which had absolutely no sauce on it so they brought some on the side which tasted like mayonnaise and ketchup mixed, yuck. Gross. The wings were frozen and then fried in old oil and they were bragged about by the staff which is strange. The same staff that is too busy talking to regulars to be bothered servicing all of the other customers. I witnessed the same guy get up multiple times from his booth and get a drink from the bar vs waiting for help at his table. Yikes. So yep, the service was big time slow and confused. I asked for a Bulleit Bourbon "neat" and got it in a small shot glass. And also waited for a new beer for far too long. It was mildly busy. Just a poor experience all around. Where to start. Ordered a spicey bloody mary. Supposedly they make their own mix. Well . . .they should stop. No flavor, watered down tomato juice, and no taste of Vodka what so ever. Tried to order the salsa sizzler with shrimp . Waittess didn't think I could do that. Why? No idea. She would need to ask the cook. I told her never mind. Since I wasn't sure what I wanted next, she left. She decided to grace us with her presence about 10 minutes later. We were just getting ready to leave. I then ordered the ribs. She said she would need to check with the cook first. She came back and said we ran out yesterday. I then asked her how about you tell me what you do have. I then ordered the salsa sizzler. No shrimp, I ordered it medium rare. It came so rare and tough a chain saw was needed to cut it. So tough, I would need dental implants after trying to chew it. Potatoes were a side. The bowl it came in was hot, the potatoes were not!. The salad was just that, a salad. The salsa was just some pico with shredded cheese on top. To be fair, the bartender came over and asked us how everything was my suspicion was the wItress told him about my comments to her. He did offer to get us a complementary drink, we declined the offer. We weren't looking for anything for free, we just wanted them to know how bad it was. As we were strolling and deciding a place to eat, management invited us inside. We had a 1 & 3 yr old with us, which they said was fine. It really wasn't fine. Not kid friendly. We were there for lunch so it was not crowded at all. The kids chicken strips were delivered undercooked so had to wait for a new batch. Kids waiting for their food while everyone else has theirs... I've been to Bay City many times but it's usually because of a trip to Frankenmuth so I typically don't dine downtown. This visit my wife and I decided to eat lunch in Bay City. Came across this place on yelp and gave it a go. Pretty good. It has a dive bar feel to it, but a stocked bar and a decent size menu. My wife had a burger and I had the sub. It was good. Food tastes fresh and the wait staff was very friendly. Left there or spending a lot of money, and full. Will visit again. read more

A friend and I stopped in between appointments while we were in town. The steak/ribs place down the street didn't open until 4, and what we thought was a restaurant called Uptown Grill turned out to be called Uptown Girl (which we realized as we got closer walking to it). This pub is right next door, so we gave it a shot. Inside, it's very kitschy. Think Bennigans meets local homey sports pub. I think it would be a great place to watch the big game on a Saturday/Sunday. My friend got the soup of the day and the Divot sandwich, which came on an English muffin. She said both were really good. I had the Monterrey Chicken sandwich. The chicken was very tender and the roll it came on was nice and soft. The little touch of buttering and toasting the roll really showed. Our waitress was very attentive and prices were reasonable. Beers on tap were Bell's Oberon, Bud Light and Killian's. When I'm in Bay City again, I would definitely revisit here. read more

After perusing the many antiques we were STARVED! I wanted to head to Bay City to check the city out. We yelped up a couple of restaurants and headed back towards the east to get some grub. I guess even though Bay City seems like a large downtown area, it was a major ghost town on Sunday.. Several of the restaurants we looked at online, that said they were open, were in fact not. We settled on Mulligans, because any more time spent looking would have sent me over the top...I was on the edge of nausea as it was... We ordered up a couple of burgers....One was the THE KITCHEN SINK and the other was THE MULLIBURGER..... My friend ordered the Kitchen Sink medium rare, and I ordered the Mulliburger medium. Both came Medium rare...almost rare...I was worried...but ate it anyway, because I was so hungry. I was fine..never got sick...but it just didn't taste that great...with a large cold tomatoe and ice cold lettuce, my burger tasted sort of...well...cold... My friend liked his burger well enough.... The service was kind of slow...it wasn't that busy only a handful of patrons, besides us... I don't know...if in the area again, I would most definitely want to try out other places before having to go back here again. The menu really only consists of a bunch of sandwiches, burgers, and chicken sandwiches...portions were okay...prices were okay...just nothing really special I guess. read more
