Food: At a table of five, the levels of satisfaction leaned more towards middle. We all had different dishes and while they were all presented beautifully, the quality and taste were off for few. I had had grilled chicken with rice and plantains which was fantastic. The seafood ceviche was good, the stewed goat dish was also good however the grilled steak was not at all appealing. I love me the food of my people, but I was sadly disappointed in not only that quality of the food, but also the service. Apparently they weren't sure if they would open, but they did for New Year's Day. The staff was rude and also looked overwhelmed but still we waited forever for our drinks, which included a cup of water. Also everything except for one plate was either cold, which makes me believe they took it out of the fridge and nuked it, or completely not cooked. For our main entrees half the table had to wait an additional 25 mins, basically everyone else was done with their meal, by the time we got our plates. It's almost as if they forgot about us. Bad service, bad food, bad ambiance. This place used to be decent before COVID. The shrimp ceviche is nothing like the Ecuadorian kind. This ceviche was made with a weird, oily purple juice. The sopa de bola had a piece of corn that was rotten. The manager or owner did not even apologize, all he said was "oh yea, they told me" and walked away. I will never come back again. This gives a bad name to Ecuadorian food. If people only knew how delightful Ecuadorian food truly is, but you will not get that here. (Passion fruit) The sexiest of all fruit, passion fruit smells like tropical perfume. It is very tart and exotic. (five stars) Much to my chagrin they were out of humitas (busy weekend!) so we ordered a bolon mixto and an empanada verde. I have read about the bolon many times in my favorite cook book in the world: "The South American Table" -Written by a woman, native to Ecuador, with beautiful stories woven throughout the book, alongside the tastes, travels and recipes of all of South America. I treasure this book. (most recipes are gluten free!) The bolon mixto is a ball of green plantain with stringy white cheese and chicharron in the middle. My friend did not love this dish. So I snagged the majority of it in trade for the majority of the empananda verde. My first bolon outside of Ecuador. Crunchy green plantain chunks with bubbling cheese center and the occasional extra crunch of extraordinary chicharron. (pork rinds) The Bolon mixto is not for vegetarians. The empanada verde (green plantain empanada) was filled with stringy white cheese, perfectly light and crispy on the outside. (five stars) In Central and South America empanadas are made with a variety of shells. Many, like the empanada verde, are wheat-free and gluten-free. For an entree we split the fritada. Garlic pork, sweet plantains, Andean popcorn, Andean corn and salad. I love this dish. This dish is like steak and potatoes to Americans. The pork was salty, sweet, and succulent. Carmel flavored , with onion, garlic and cumin. I do not love cumin, but it was neat to see a new spin on the classic Ecuadorian dish. The salad was lemony, with red onion and cilantro. The plantains were enormous, tangy and sweet. The Andean popcorn (choclo) was crunchy and savory. Like gluten free croutons! They soak up the tart lemon from the salad and taste even better. A suprising little jewel I found while looking a round for a place to eat while on a lay over. The staff here understands some English so I had yo resort to some pointing and charades but the food was just oh so worth it, being both very affordable for the amount and quality I received and being just so delicious. I've never had Ecuadorian food before but if its all like this then I'm a fan! We traveled from Coral Springs to bring my dad to have some Ecuadorian cuisine and because there are few to be found we traveled 40 mins to this location. It wasn't as busy when we arrived but I was not very pleased with the table service/ customer service. It was slow to get an order in and then we never got one of our side items so we had to cancel it. Shame because there aren't many Ecuadorian places but this one lacked warmth and attention. Food is actually quite good at this location but the service is incredibly slow. I ordered takeout, arrive 25 minutes later and my food still was not ready. I waited another 20 minutes and it still was not ready, it took almost an hour and a half to order one plate. Delicious food. Ecuadorean food gets very little recognition in the culinary world, but truth be told the food is amazing. Ecuadorean food is similar to Peruvian food and share similarities to other South American countries, most of their dishes are sea food based, Ecuador is a costal country with lots of sea food and you will find lots of sea food dishes on the menu. You must try the encebollado de Pescado, this is my favorite dish. I also recommend ordering the "Quaker", it is an oatmeal based drink with orange juice, apples and cinnamon, the drink is served cold but can also be served hot. I also recommend the "Bolon", they offer it with Chicarron, cheese or both. Make sure to try their Soda, called "Tropical" & "Manzana". Delicious. Their food is very unique to other "Spanish" style dishes, they offer more then your typical rice and beans. The food here is delicious and at the right price. I had the yapingacho which contains the following: 1hotdog, 1suasage, 2 pieces of pork, 2 fried maduros, 2 potatos covered with a peanut sauce and pieces of white cheese on top, and 1 fried egg. My husband had el caldo de mariscos which literally has a bit of all kinds of sea foods. The portions are pretty big especially their caldos. Oh and we also ate la empanada verde, yummy yummy. On ever table they have a small cup with a very spicy sauce, but it gives each meal a good kick. My ONLY complaint is that they try to charge you for water, instead of serving you a cup of water they will try to give you a bottle of water which they charge for. Places like this one, is what I LOVE about Miami. Owners seem to be an older couple. The lady works in the kitchen. The food is simple, but SUPER FRESH & TASTY!!!! What an experience. Terrible!!!!!! Terrible service and the food was not worth it!!! We drove an hour and half to eat Ecuadorian food, we ordered the caldo de salchicha and not only did they took forever to bring it out but once they did it was so watery and almost no salchicha, obviously they had ran out but still wanted to make a sale. I then ordered a plate of salchicha seca and instead of the lady being HONEST she brought me a plate with almost nothing on it and I still had to pay full price for it!! Instead of her telling us she didn't have any more she served me a plate full of plantains! What bothered me the most was the lady's attitude, she was sooo rude! We had ordered a salchi-papa and when they brought it out it had literally 5 French fries on it and when I told her about it she was like oh that's because we don't have any potatoes left, so I said then I don't think it's fair we pay full price for this, and she literally grabbed the plate and left mad!!! Instead of offering us a discount or something, I'm not exaggerating when I say there was literally 5 French fries on the plate!!! It was not worth it! For all the celebrated "cultural diversity" in South Florida, we still have a few culinary blind spots. From Key West to Tequesta, there is not currently one Ethiopian restaurant. You can count the number of good Indian restaurants on one hand and have fingers left over. The cafeteria and market at Ikea represents our only link to Scandinavian cuisine. However, in terms of the various culinary traditions of the Caribbean, Central and South America, it can't be denied that we've got it going on. I was recently marooned in Doral for a day, and while this has never been my favorite area of Dade County, I refused to accept this as a gustatory death sentence. No way, instead I'm going to channel my inner Andrew Zimmern. A Yelp search revealed Mi Lindo Ecuador, very close to my location. Ecuadorian food? Never had it before. Never THOUGHT to have had it before, I should say. Looks great in the pictures. I'm getting hungry. No English spoken? Who cares, I'll get by with my rudimentary Dade County Public Schools-taught Spanish. Sold. Mi Lindo isn't a fancy place. It looks like every other tiny family-run joint in every other western Miami strip mall. Unassuming would be an understatement. However, it looks clean inside, and is well-lit. There's an Ecuadorian flag, and a couple TVs tuned to Univision. As other reviews have promised, the level of English spoken is practically nil, so do bring whatever Spanish skills you may have to bear - any will be better than none, and will probably be good enough to get you by. I mean, we're just ordering food here, not building rockets. This is supposed to be "typical Ecuadorian food," and I have to say, if that is the case, looking at the menu, I may have greatly underestimated this particular culinary tradition. The menu is extensive. For those who are lazy and don't feel like reading the menu, the wall on the left has a bunch of giant pictures of some of what I'm guessing are the more popular plates, soups, etc. I went with the fritada, because I saw a picture of it on Yelp and it looked awesome. With it, I had to order a jugo de naranjilla, which the woman brought out first, and I greedily drank half of in about 2 minutes. I should have saved more of that, and I'll tell you why in a bit. But anyway, the fritada plate is made up of fried garlic pork, plantains, pink onions, corn two ways, and cilantro. Lemons are provided, and also a bowl of sauce. I proceeded to douse my plate with this sauce. I figured it'd be spicy, but no big deal. Wow, was I wrong. It's a good thing I love spicy foods and have a high tolerance for them. The heat this sauce brought was intense, a very focused heat that came on fast and lingered. The jugo de naranjilla did a great job of quenching the fire, but unfortunately I'd already drank half of it. Oh well. As I said, it's a good thing I can handle the fire, because this was no joke, no joke at all. This food is clearly not dumbed down for bland Anglo-Saxon palates, I can only assume this is the real deal. Fried pork and plantains sounds like a lot of fried food, which I am usually not into, but here, there was no greasy coating at all, very light and not so oily, which I appreciate. The kernels of corn provided a great crunch to the dish. I'm tempted to go 5 stars, but I'll leave this at a high 4 simply because I just don't have much of a frame of reference for this kind of food. It has some similarities with Peruvian, but then again, it's more than that. I need to explore the menu further. You should too! read more

Is it worth dragging yourself out of that sexy blissful cocoon of warmth you call bed and yanking your significant other by the baby orangutan hairs to satiate a hankering for late Ecuadorian chuchaqui breakfast? NOOOOOPE. Absolutely not. In fact, after that meal we just tucked ourselves back in bed and pretended nothing happened. If you've ever had the pleasure of rising to a softball sized hunk of partially fried mashed green plantains loaded with melted cheese and pork cracklings then YOU KNOW how perfectly well it goes with jet black coffee and a healthy christening of booty burning hot sauce. MLE's hot sauce is exactly what you'd find in a partially deaf Ecuadorian great grandmother's kitchen. You'll want to put it on absolutely everything. That softball I just described is called "Bolon" and be sure to specify you want it with both chicharron AND queso. Order it with a coffee and enjoy the departure of last night's shenanigans' guilt as it fades into obscurity. Unfortunately I'm docking stars for: -Being served instant coffee -The bolon was barely warm and was MICROWAVED after pleading for a quick visit to the hot top. -The skiddish waitress forgot to ask the kitchen to make our Bolon a crackling AND cheese one. Ceviche de concha at this place uses the large black clams and is definitely NOT what you'd want if you came specifically for black conch ceviche- save yourself the heartache. The broth in the Encebollado ( aka- what you get if you're sick/ hungover/impotent) is delicious. I went down the unholy route and got it 3 ways and it was a $20 bowl of regret because the ceviches thrown over it awkwardly cooled down the broth and just made it an incoherent up charge just for the sake of up charging.... Oh and they also charge for rice, chifles and garnishes like El Niño just happened and they really need the $2 here and there. I liken this to ordering Pad Thai and paying extra for herbs, bean sprouts, peanuts and egg...I found it a bit disrespectful to the preservation of culture and greedy. Their house Quaker drink is actually pretty pleasant and authentic tasting. Overall the meal was okay for someone wanting to skip the mess and step out but I'm sad that this place is apparently the best Ecuadorean available in South Florida. I wouldn't feel proud serving it to someone that's never known the delight of a leisurely late breakfast of terrific Ecuadorean food. Catered from here for a work lunch. My coworkers were demanding llapingachos and it was my job to get it to them. We ordered seco de gallina and chivo, guatita (tripe), bolon de verde, and llapingachos. Well to everyones surprise the bolon de verdes were the hit. I dont know what kind of hot sauce they use but that was also a huge hit. We put that hot sauce on the bolon de verde and it was delicious. I was disappointed with the llapingachos. They were lackluster but thankfully that peanut sauce was spectacular and saved the day. For those who dont know, llapingachos are (other than a dirty sounding word) mashed potatoes made into a ball with cheese in the middle and then fried. To be topped off with a peanut sauce that just creates a spectacular burst of flavors. This is usually served over a bed of rice with a fried egg!!! YUM! read more

If you are looking for an authentic Ecuadorian spot in Miami, this is it. I took some foreign friends along to try some of my homeland's cuisine, and they were delighted. The atmosphere is very casual, and the dishes are diverse. They offer food from every region of the country, and they stay faithful to the home-cooked flavors I grew up with. If you have yet to try Ecuadorian ceviche, you're seriously missing out. It's very different from our Peruvian neighbors' version, but don't let that discourage you from trying it. It is served in a bowl; the broth is what sets it apart. It is simply fantastic. The bolon de verde is another treat, as is the fritada. All in all, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. No habla Espanol. One of the few phrases I know in Spanish and one which I had to repeat over and over to every person at Mi Lindo Ecuador. They did not utter one word of English. No "hello", not "water", not even "check." Thankfully they have lots of pictures on the menu. Unfortunately, not every picture is matched up with a description. I pointed at a bowl of some type of brown soup, asked if it had "carne" in it, to which the lady nodded her head. So, as you might expect, after speaking to me in Spanish she returned with a bowl of yellow soup with some sort of fish in it. Luckily for me, it was Excellent fish soup. I never even figured out what it was called, because she didn't understand my question and I forgot I had "Google Translate" as a possible helper. Still, it was tangy, slightly spicy, with shredded red onions and chunks of what I think was yuca and a meaty fish. The spicy salsa-type dip they brought to the table was very hot and very good.
