Get a mambo! A wonderful mix of a margarita and sangria and VERY tasty! I came here with my friend who just moved to the Dallas area while I was there on business. The guacamole was very delicious....not spicy and not loaded with onions. Yuck! I ordered the chicken fajitas and it was more than enough food. The service was great and I really have no complaints. I was more focused on hanging out with my friend then really focusing in on the service or food, but both were very good and I would go here again when visiting the area. On a business trip and walking around the Legacy Shops area trying to find something good for dinner. In two minutes, I was instantly transported to Lincoln Road in South Beach when I walked into Mi Cocina. Tuesday night and a ton of guests waiting to be seated in this sexy and contemporary Latin restaurant. Enjoyed my dinner at the bar with Luis the bartender. Great suggestions, very good mojito and awesome personality. On this chilly night in Plano, I went with a bowl of the chicken and rice soup and it was as legit as can be, including the touch of cilantro with tortilla slices. Highly recommend. Entree was the carne asada - sliced rib eye steak served over a bed of rice with typical fajita toppings of guac, pico de gallo, tortilla and a cup of red beans. Steak was cooked perfectly, beans were outrageous and, when paired with Luis' hot sauce recommendation, it melded perfectly. To top it off, I went with the typical flan. Very rich and on point with texture and flavor. Only thing missing was the dulce de leche (caramel) on top but it wasn't missed. I ate lunch at Mi Cocina today (7/20) with my nephews and we had the best server, Andres. He was very attentive and very nice to me and my nephews. I take my nephews out a lot and not once have they ever said that they really like the waiter. All through lunch they kept saying how nice Andres was and even when leaving they waited for Andres to come out of the kitchen to tell him thank you and how nice he was. Love this location. I like the layout for this location. They have an awesome patio that is great for relaxing and overlooks a little pond. Not great for people-watching. The best part is the outside seating overlooking the little pond where you can be entertained by the ducks fighting for chips that people throw from their tables...or the baby ducks roaming between the tables. The wait on a Saturday night was about 30 minutes, not bad. The salsa looked a little tomato-juicy, but actually had a nice kick and flavor. The guac and white cheese dips were OK, nothing to rave about. Guac was fresh but needed salt and was a bit plain. Queso dip had the beginning of some spice from the poblanos but then fell kinda flat. Neither were bad though. The street taco was average, but the Habana chicken taco packed a punch of great flavor. Felt like I was eating tacos from abuelita down in Chihuahua, Mexico. YUM! So all in all, the outside ambiance is romantic, breezy cool on a hot summer night (they had a discrete industrial fan blowing to keep it chill), the food is average or slightly above, and the service is fair for the number of people in this restaurant. read more

I've been a major fan of Mi Cocina since the first day I moved to Dallas over a year ago. Always been a regular at the location in uptown, but upon meeting Pavel actually at my work, he informed me of the Spring Creek location right behind my office and instructed I come try that location out for lunch sometime. Didn't let me down at all! He is a wonderful server and has attention to detail, an outgoing personality that is fun to talk to, and the food was fantastic. Mi Cocina...upscale Tex Mex right in my backyard. (Literally) We live down the street across Preston, and while a bit on the expensive side for Tex Mex, it's still a great place to go. So far we've been twice to this location. First was while waiting for a table at Taverna next door - stopped into the bar and had some amazing Mambo Limos. I'm not sure what they pour in it, but we were a little tipsy leaving. Next time was with my in-laws. They pour a stiff drink - our Crown & 7 was strong, but should be given the cost of it. All in all, food was great, wait time wasn't too bad. My only hesitation about giving 5 stars is the space itself - a bit small and like others have mentioned, loud. If you're ever in the mood for more upscale tex-mex you should probably check this place out. The tacos here probably can't compare to all those gas station tacos everyone raves about, but its better than no tacos, yeah? They can satisfy your cravings for tex mex, but don't expect to be blown away by their average food. They have quite an extensive menu with lots of choices. A lot of mix and match...tacos&enchiladas, crunch tacos&soft tacos...etc. You always get chips and salsa as you order/wait for your food. The chips are most of the time warm, which is a plus. I usually get their tacos de pescado (fish tacos) or chicken fajitas. The fish in the tacos are pretty inconsistent. Sometimes they're okay, and then sometimes they're on the fishy side. You never know til you take that first bite. You'd think I learned my lesson after a couple not so great fish tacos, but then I find myself ordering those tacos once again. I don't know what it is about this place. I'm not the biggest fan, yet I still find myself eating here quite often. This is one of those places where I kind of stand in the middle. I've come to this location of Mi Cocina several times over the years and never been disappointed. My sister and I had dinner here last Friday and everything was great. We were told the wait for a table would be thirty minutes, which isn't unusual for a Friday night, but were pleasantly surprised when a table was ready for us within five minutes. It was on the patio, but the heaters were on and the plastic curtains were down, so it was still comfortable. Service was prompt and courteous. Food was delicious, as usual. Will return. read more

My wife and I went to Mi Cocina yesterday evening and are semi regular customers. My wife ordered the reliably good Ernie's Chicken and I had the equally reliable Milo's plate. What stood out for us this visit is the excellent service we got from Gregorio. He was attentive without being hovering and promptly brought us drinks with a smile. It was obvious he enjoyed his work and being with people. When my wife asked for a second glass of wine, he filled the glass; unlike most restaurants that consider a glass of wine barely covering the bottom of the glass. Gregorio packed our leftovers and gave us a fresh bag of chips and salsa to go with it. It was a pleasant evening and the good food was made better by the service. read more

Really, I would give this place 2.5 stars if I could but hey, it's an imperfect world. My boyfriend and I popped in here tonight for some good Tex-Mex, but I think next time we'll stick with Anamia's down the street. First of all, it was LOUD. We could barely hear each other across the table, which meant we ate most of our meal in silence. Then our server was weirdly unfriendly. At first I just wondered if he was having a bad day or something, but he was very smiley and jokey with the table next to ours, so I have to assume it was just us, though we were perfectly polite. I suspect it's because we both look like teenagers, and he figured that we weren't going to tip well, so what was the point in being nice? Despite our youthful allure, however, we are both mid-twenties professionals who are happy to leave big tips... if the service warrants it. My food was pretty good (and the chips and salsa were excellent), but my boyfriend's Tacos Habana had several burnt pieces of chicken in them. Overall, it wasn't the dining experience we were expecting (We DID tip, by the way, just not up to the usual standard). I've had good experiences at other Mi Cocina restaurants, so I hope that this was just a fluke and that if we should return, the service will be better. read more

We go out of our way to come to this location. Great service, fantastic food using fresh ingredients, it is our favorite Tex-Mex restaurant in the Metroplex. Jorge, who was our server today, has been our server previously as he's been there many years, and he is fantastic.
