Lastly, we were greeted with big smiles, regular check ins to get us chips and water, and a hearty "thanks for coming" before leaving. In a fast food world, that kind of personal touch is lost 99% of the time. I really love this place and can't wait to come back soon.

Quantity- good portion amount Atmosphere- the room has plenty of seats and has nice decor. Service- this can use some improvement. The waitress was not bad but the thing that really irked me is that the owner would always stop by and ask ,"are you done with that yet" when I am clearly not done. I did not get my water or chips refilled much during the time here. I decided not to tip and the owner decided to follow me outside to yell at me while I was walking to my car. This is unprofessional behavior and an example of what not to do when running a business. This place is classless and I am not surprised by the poor reviews it gets.

We went full tapas mode and shared everything across the table, which is absolutely the right way to do this. The trio of salsas was a strong opener. The smoky Al Morita was the clear winner for me, though all three brought something distinct to the table. The Patatas Bravas were well seasoned and the sunny side egg on top added a richness that elevated the whole dish. Wanted a little more crisp on the potatoes but honestly a minor note on an otherwise solid plate. Tacos were a mixed bag. The Al Carnitas fell flat, the pork belly felt underseasoned and the lime overpowered everything else. The Al Fundido though was a genuine standout. Perfectly cooked butterfly shrimp, pickled onions, melty cheese. Every component earning its place on the tortilla. The Al Chulo got solid marks from the table but could use something bright to cut through the richness. The Chicken Empanadas were a highlight of the night. Shatteringly crispy, loaded with flavor, and the slaw alongside them was exactly the right call. The Al Mango Salad was fresh and balanced but leaned sweet and desperately wanted a crunchy element and maybe a little heat to round it out. Dessert delivered a split decision. The Al Platanito Frito was the surprise of the evening. Sweet, sour, bright, crunchy. A perfect final bite. The churros were perfectly fine and nothing more. Service was attentive and our server steered us well with recommendations. One heads up: this is not a casual weeknight cheap eat. It is tapas priced for the experience, so come hungry, come with a group, and come ready to spend. Worth it. The Plainfield location is next on our list and we cannot wait.

The Birria Ramen is some new that I have never tried. Think of it as braised beef with noodles. My fiance and I went here for dinner on a Friday night. This restaurant is a recent addition to the…read moreBien Trucha group, but of all the locations I have eaten at (Bien Trucha, Santo Cielo and Quiubo; have not been to Lil Donkey or A Toda Madre) this was the weakest one. Why? - We both thought the corn tortillas were too thick and flabby. These tacos are somewhat bigger than you get at other places, so the support structure needs to be there, but I have seen other places get around this with two thinner tortillas instead. These also barely seemed to have touched a comal: they weren't blistered and still had a doughy quality. - The thick tortillas translated into thick tortilla chips, and neither of us liked the salsa Verde. My fiance liked the house sauce that is in a bottle on the table better. - He got two tacos and a side of esquites (street corn), I got three tacos. We both thought the chicken (in his chicken tinga taco and my pollo pipian taco) tasted gamy. He liked the one better with steak and potato (picadillo), and the esquites was good. I liked the flavor of the rajas con crema quite a bit, with poblano pepper, cheese curds and corn, but it was rather messy to eat. Likewise, my birria taco was very flavorful but just poured grease out of the end...yuck. - For two of us for dinner with no drinks (both got tap water) it was right at $50 (48 and change). That is a LOT for tacos, especially considering that some weren't very good (looking at that chicken here). - A note on accessibility: I was encouraged because there's a ramp going up into the restaurant, but there are only a few regular tables: most are high tops. I wish this trend in restaurants would go away! Everyone can use a regular table; not everyone can use a high top. One accessible thing is that you can either order at the counter, or order from a QR code menu and they'll bring it to your table. So overall, Sweetchilango is only getting a middling grade from me. There are so many other good taco shops in this area that I don't need to break the bank coming here. I'd say it's an optional choice if you're looking for something different, but the inconsistency of the quality of the dishes we had make trying something new a challenge.
