Mi Abuelito was super average for me, nothing terrible, but nothing special either. I even tried to take on their burrito challenge (and failed), but honestly the burrito just wasn't that great to begin with. The food didn't have much flavor, and nothing really stood out. It felt like it was thrown together rather than made with care, and the overall quality just wasn't impressive. The chips and salsa were okay, pretty standard, nothing memorable. The staff was also very average. They weren't rude or anything, but nothing about the service stood out or made the experience better. The atmosphere was probably the best part of the whole visit. It has a nice vibe and feels comfortable, which helps bring the rating up a bit. But overall, I wasn't a huge fan and don't feel compelled to go back. I went here for lunch after doing a bit of shopping next door. They are located in the strip behind Kinkos. First of all I had THE BEST waiter- Carlos. I was having and okay day but man did he brighten it up! He was nice and attentive and funny. You could really tell he loved his job. I ordered the lunch fajitas and they were really good. I wish they came with lettuce and pico but I also could've asked too. I added a picture of the lights because I thought those were cool. The pics we took didn't do the colors justice. She ordered a mango margarita which she found both huge & tasty. We had an appetizer of quezon with beef which was okay nothing out of the ordinary. For her entree she ordered chick flautas which she found good. Nothing spectacular but not bad. Would have found some quest to dip them in a great addition. My nachos came out just as I ordered them. Chips, protein, cheese & sour cream. I found it very tasty! The chips are homemade. Service was hit or miss. No problem getting seated, served , drink refills but seemed to take forever to get our check. Like many Mexican restaurants around Indy, Mi Abuelito has a lot of color and flare in the decor. Though, I think Mi Abuelito probably goes well over the top compared to others. If you find lots and lots of color, sculptures, and art distracting, this might not be the place for you. The server was fine. And so was the food. Nothing here really made me say "Wow!" This restaurant had a very colorful decorated interior. It seems more so than I have ever seen before. Our server, ( and all of the servers ) were so friendly and upbeat. We ordered a beef wet burrito and a combo plate with a beef taco, refried beans and a chile relleno. My friend enjoyed her burrito. My combo plate was OK They didn't skimp with the beef taco because it was filled to the top with ground beef. I didn't get much else with it. Barely any cheese or lettuce. The chili relleno was satisfactory. The beans were not impressive. They were very runny and had an odd color to them. They weren't flavorful. The complimentary tortilla chips and puréed salsa were just OK as well. I felt the price for the food was a bit high. I probably won't return to this restaurant. read more

This is a fun and colorful Mexican restaurant. They have a huge private parking lot and an outdoor patio. There is also a full bar in the center of the restaurant. The restaurant is huge and very clean. I decided to stop here for a bite to eat while I was have my tires worked on at a nearby tire joint. You get the complimentary chips and salsa when you sit down and as I eluded to, the place is colorfully decorated from floor to ceiling. They offer lunch and drink specials. The restaurant has a friendly and attentive staff and a huge menu. They also have a large selection of margaritas. The menu was packed with your standard Mexican favorites and some exotic ones as well. I went the exotic route and got the Pina Loca, a carved pineapple filled with grilled chicken, steak and pineapple chunks.....mmmmmmm. it came with beans and rice. The Pina Loca was a delicious as it was unique. This restaurant seems like a family friendly spot and I highly recommend it. They have a huge selection of delicious food and drinks. If the salsa they bring to the table is too mild, they also have tomatillo and habanero you can ask for. I'd skip on the guacamole, it was really good but a small portion. Awesome decor and huge portions. This location opened up recently and we decided to stop in on a Sunday afternoon. It was fairly quiet around 12:30 but picked up as we were leaving. It's a little dark inside but the decor is beautiful. They brought a huge basket of chips and salsa out as we looked over the menus. I love when they bring out individual bowls out for salsa so I can double dip to my heart's content. The menu is huge and has plenty of items that aren't things you typically see. I didn't order it this time but they had a delicious-looking dish that was a half pineapple filled with chicken, steak, and vegetables. I had the vegetarian enchiladas and my brother had the quesadilla a la Diabla. Both were delicious and we would order again. The also have a burrito challenge. My friend and I stopped by for lunch at this fun and colorful restaurant that is tucked away in a strip center off Meridian Street. She uses a walker, and the sidewalk cut-out was easy for her to maneuver, but the adorable double wooden doors were awkward for her. A nice server held the doors, which helped her greatly. They have a nice patio you'll pass just outside the entrance. The restaurant is lovely inside with dark woods and muted colors with unique, low-level lighting in each area. A large bar is located in the center of the dining room. The atmosphere is warm and cozy and family-friendly. The kids-menu is very diverse with a nice selection of American and Mexican choices. We were seated immediately at one of the many 4-top tables. Chips and individual bowls of mild salsa arrived immediately. Our server was prompt and friendly and gave us some extra time to explore the large menu. They serve a nice variety of lunch entrees but we ordered from the regular menu. I love they offer many appetizers, steaks, and the standard Mexican entrees but serve several unique entrees I haven't seen before. A Tacoenchi, a taco filled with an enchilada or Fajitas Hawaianas, fajitas with grilled chicken, pineapple, bacon, ham, and several others. We started with the 5 Jalapeno Bacon Poppers. We were shocked when the poppers arrived as they were huge!! The jalapenos were stuffed with cheese and wrapped in medium, crispy bacon strips. The large jalapenos were still very crunchy, which I didn't care for, but the bacon wasn't burnt as often happens at some restaurants. My friend and I decided to share entrees, and she ordered the delicious Pina Locos which is half of a fresh pineapple stuffed with tender chicken, steak, peppers, and onions topped with melted cheese then served with rice and beans. It was beautiful and unusual plus the flavors were sweet and savory. I ordered the meaty Molcajete Mi Abuelito with tender steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, pork, Cactus, and onions. Served with rice and beans, sour cream, salad, and hot tortillas. It was a lovely presentation with a massive amount of food beautifully arranged in a large mortar. We ended up taking more than half of each entree home with us. I still had to try the fresh Flan (Mexican custard) since it's one of my favorite desserts. It didn't disappoint. The service was excellent, our delicious entrees arrived quickly and served hot! Dirty dishes were taken away timely and our server even helped box up our carry-out. I'm looking forward to bringing my husband plus returning with my friend. I'm glad I found this fun restaurant and can't wait to sit on the patio when the weather permits. read more

I heard about this Mexican Restaurant from a friend and gave it a try today!!! WOW, so glad we did! It's located behind Skyline Chili in the strip mall. When you walk in, it's so colorful and festive! The give you the urns full of salsa and lots of chips and refill it often. Really good salsa and the chips were warm. We also got some Queso and it was good! I got the Pina Loco as recommended here on yelp. It's served in a pineapple filled with yummy chicken, steak, peppers and onion topped with cheese, and the rice and black beans on the side, so good! Everything loved their meals and we will be back! We've been meaning to try this place as we've had problems finding high quality Mexican food in town. We stopped by with a friend from out of town with a dog and a small infant, and they were very welcoming on the patio. Got our drinks right away, the margaritas are HUGE! We just got the regular size as well. The menu is huge, so many options, definitely something for everyone. The salsa is amazing, fresh, and flavorful. We got a variety of entrees and they were all amazing! I got the carnitas and chorizo burrito, HUGE portions. I mean there's enough food for two or three meals. Second time here and I can truthfully say it was better than the first (for me) the food was always hot and delicious but I really feel like they got the refried beans going in the right direction . They had more full all around flavor. I ordered the Chimichanga Mi Abuelito. Which is a chimichanga filled with pork and topped with cheese sauce and served with lettuce, rice and beans. Sooo delicious. As someone who orders carnitas quite often, I really appreciated this being on the menu . My fiancé ordered tacos. Two chorizo and two steak. These also came with a side of beans and rice. For drinks we had water (they really have the best water it's CRISP ) and I had the Bonito Blue Margarita . This consisted of 1800, blue curaçao and margarita mix. So delicious ! My partner ordered the Pacifico.
