I am ashamed to say that I have lived in this area for 25 years, drove by this place almost everyday to go to work, play softball next to it, and absoulutely LOVE a good piece of red meat. I never had any desire to go in. The Mezza Luna is legendary for its prime rib. Friends and strangers rave about this place, and I strongly visit local independent businesses to support the local economy. I only went because I got a gift certificate for Christmas. Shame on me! I am not a big italian eater, so I knew I was going to try the prime rib. It was seasoned perfectly and cooked the rare I expect it to be. The jus was so good I wanted to continue to eat it with my spoon. I honestly had the urge to hug my waitress Barbara! My wife and I stopped here for lunch. First, Thank you for being open on the 4th of July. This was not our intended stop but we were so delighted it's where we ended up eating. I had the linguine with meat sauce and meatballs. The meatballs were fantastic and I'm picky when it comes to meatballs. My wife had the cheese ravioli with marinara sauce and she enjoyed it. Saturday was my first time to this restaurant- my family has been there previously and wanted to have an early Father's Day dinner. We made a reservation as we wanted to be sure we had a table that could accommodate a wheelchair. I must say the portions are huge even the appetizers. The appetizer portion means no pasta comes with the meal which was good for us. The food was absolutely delicious! My mom and I had the appetizer portion for our dinner and it was more than enough. Started with wonderful bread and oil and/or butter to your tasting. I think our group of 7 went through three baskets of bread. My dad had the jumbo shrimp cocktail and it looked fantastic. He was more than happy! My mom had eggplant parm (appetizer portion) and she could not finish the portion but was definitely happy that she chose it. I had the Capri Shrimp Scampi and it was wonderful! Just the right portion for me. My sister and brother-in-law decided to try something different for them - chicken saltimbocca. They each had the salad. Again, more than enough, but they loved it. My sister said it tasted earthy because of the mushrooms. My nephew had the chicken parm with the clam chowder. He ate it all so that's a good sign as he usually leaves food on his plate. My niece had the baked stuffed shells with the minestrone soup. She took home a shell for later. We finished with two desserts to split. My dad had the spumoni with claret sauce. He loves spumoni and when finds a restaurant that serves it we know he's having dessert! He was not disappointed and shared some with my mom. We also had a creme brulee and it was fantastic! I did have a watermelon martini and it was tart and delicious. A couple of people had coffee and/or tonic to drink The restaurant filled up while we were there as I believe Mass Maritime graduated that morning. So I am glad I made reservations. The decor is lovely and elegant without being stuffy. I did notice they have a nice seating area outside - although I'm not fond of sitting where traffic flows by. . They have it set up nicely with beautiful hanging baskets. I have to say the ladies room was very clean. I got a kick out of a framed note from the owner that apologized for the small ladies room that the old restaurant had. I should have taken a picture, but I was not thinking. We had peeked in when they reopened after the fire but it seemed a little pricey and we were only having lunch so we passed. We decided to give it a try for our anniversary. Big mistake. The place looks really nice, however the grated cheese was in some cheap plastic shaker and the salad dressing came in plastic takeout cups with lids. We started out with the Antipasto salad. It was pretty basic, I have gotten the same or better at a house of pizza. The minestrone soup was thick and sludgy, the pasta was soggy it tasted like it sat in the steam table all day. I ate about 1/2 of it and gave up. They have better Minestrone at Toby Hospital.The menu had plenty of choices and they all sounded good. on every page of the menu it said sharing of an entree is not allowed. Not allowed? Where are we at a restaurant or prison? My wife ordered the Italian PU PU Platter. 2 Meatballs 2 spicy sausages. 2 stuffed shells, and eggplant Parm $17.95. There was an additional $3.95 charge if we wanted to share it. She said the Eggplant parm was good and the meatballs were good but she didn't like the stuffed shells at all. I decided to try the Veal Capone $24.95. Bad choice. It said 2 veal steaks stuffed with cheese and red peppers in a beef Au jus with mushrooms. It was a hunk of veal with melted cheese on top and another hunk of veal on top of it sitting in a bouillon cube tasting beef water with canned mushrooms. I ate one piece and that was it. I had a side of pasta with meat sauce which was fair. For dessert we split a molten chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla $6.95. It was fair. The waitress was adequate. We had to ask for water refills twice. A good waitress would have commented on the fact that I only had one bite of my meal, she just asked if we wanted it packed up. The bill was $68.60. I usually tip 25-30% but I couldn't justify more than 15% for her. She wasn't horrible she was just there. Maybe we are spoiled by Mama Mias in Plymouth but this wasn't good Italian. It all lacked any real flavor. last Anniversary we went to Carmela's in Kingston and the bill was about the same but with wine and a bigger tip. The food and service at Carmela's was outstanding. I would not recommend this place to anyone. It was overpriced for mediocre service and lackluster food. read more

Just had a nice piece of prime rib there and could swear it was still Moooing. Just how I like it. Wife had an Italian dish and loved it. Nice atmosphere and the wait staff was outstanding. I was SO excited based on the reviews but this is honestly one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to in my life. If you like anything that has flavor, this is the wrong place for you. My husband and I went last night and It was the most bland, flavorless food I have ever eaten in my entire life. The calamari was extremely plain with no sauce or seasoning on it, the Marsala sauce tasted like water, and My husband's fried eggplant caprese salad tasted like cardboard. Even my wine, the house Pinot Grigio, tasted like water! The only positive was the friendly service but I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I was baffled at why the restaurant was so packed until I looked around me and realized most of the clientele was over 65 and had probably lost their taste buds? I walked in to put in a name for a table. Nobody was waiting, one gentleman (in the loosest form of the word) was at the desk wiping down menus with his back to me. I stood there for almost a minute, he turned around and looked at me, then spun back around and proceeded to wipe more menus without a word. Then a minute later finally stopped long enough to ask what I wanted. I asked for a table for 4 and he told me it was an hour wait. Again, there was nobody waiting anywhere that I could see. I left. If you have the mushroom allergy you're eating rice,ziti and salad! Should have been more entries. Food was only ok, perhaps on account of reunion offering. Sitting at the bar with my friend we had great service. Both bar tenders made sure everything was perfect. My Caesar salad appetizer was very big and fresh. I ordered a chicken cutlet on top of spaghetti. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was fried so it was nice and crispy. The tomato sauce on it was delicious too. Nothing fancy but good. I ordered the baked stuff haddock that was surprisingly tasty. Breading was flavorful but it's texture was light. Side dishes nothing special - baked potato and steamed broccoli. The others at the table reported the clam chowder to be ok nothing special and the raviolis were good and filling. We sat in the bar today and enjoyed the nice view from the large windows of the pond across the street. Really wanted to be wowed by the food based on the mostly positive reviews and a relative's recommendation, especially after the 50 minute ride. But twas not quite the case. The husband had the lunch baked stuffed haddock. He said it was ok and I didn't try a bite as I usually do, so I can't comment on it. I ordered the veal rollatini from the dinner menu over linguini, shrooms and red sauce. Sounds delicious, right? Would be if the veal wasn't so tough and the sauce had some seasoning. I was so longing for some flavor with every bite. Even the grated cheese was bland, and the salt I kept pouring on it didn't help. People, put some salt, pepper, garlic, some herbs in the sauce! Even the salad that came with it was anemic. Really, 1 thin radish slice, 3 chick peas, 2 red onion slices, and mostly white romaine rinds. I would not serve that to anyone. Price: $25 If available, I would have given 2.5 stars and since this was our first visit , I wouldn't be opposed to visiting again to try something else on the menu. read more

Finally had the chance to stop here for dinner after driving by for years. Unfortunately we will not go back. Service was fine. My husband got the antipasto for one and several of the vegetable ingredients were out of a can. I got the chicken scampi - portion size was decent but the chicken looked like it had been boiled not sautéed. And any scampi I've had before had a creamy element to the sauce. I've been coming here since the mid 1980's with my grandparents. Although no longer here, they've been going since the ealy 1950's! I'm proudly carrying on the tradition. I've even met the original owner Speranza who they introduce in their menu. It was sad when the original building burned down, because you can't recreate that old time ambience, but they did do an excellent job on the new building. I do admit in all these years the only dinner i've tried is the Prime Rib. Its become a family tradition. My brothers and I compare every prime rib we eat to theirs and we haven't found one that is better yet. It beats out all the best steak houses in Boston and New York. I have no idea how they make it so good, but they've certainly perfected it. Give them a try, and I think you'll soon have a family tradition of your own. read more

Stopped by this restaurant tonight after a long day on Martha's Vineyard. Was not greeted by the host, simply asked rudely "Do you have a reservation?" When told we did not, he exasperatingly told us he'd see if they had anything. When he returned he grabbed the menus, didn't say a word to us, threw them on the table, and left. Apparently not even noticing there was a fork left on my chair. In what is considered a "fine dining" restaurant? Our waitress came by several minutes later and we ordered our food. The food came out in a reasonable time (one star) and our children seemed to like their meals (the second star). Our adult meals were over-sauced and the amount of garlic in mine made it almost inedible. Our waitress was fine but not around much - we had to flag her down for anything. Ok, Now I evaluate restaurants for a living and my main gripe over the years is receiving foods that taste only of grease. Not much to my surprise when the food was placed in front of us all I could smell is grease. I tried the Veal Parmesan and could not eat more than a few bites the grease taste was overwhelming. I tried some of my guests steak fries. Could only eat half a bite even covered in ketchup. My fingers were soaked in grease and the flavor of the fries were absolutely horrible and way over salted. To top it off the waitress never came back to see if everything was alright. The prices are very steep. No three strikes...never going back...TIP: chef's, managers, and owners! Taste your food and change the grease more often! The food is not acceptable when all you can taste is grease! read more

We have been going here for years. My husband loves their prime rib. I enjoy their seafood and pasta choices. My mother Ina's enjoys this restaurant a lot. The wait staff is normally very nice and attentive. In the summer or holiday months it can be busy, so having a reservation or just calling ahead to check may be a good idea. They have parking and some outdoor seating. The out door seating is on the main road so it can be a little noisy, it's far from loud. read more
