My wife and I dined at the Bog Tavern last night. We arrived to the tail-end of a magnificent sunset and were able to pick our own table near the window by the bar. Our waiter was attentive, friendly and had a spot on the recommendations. The food was really good and very reasonable priced. I had the cheeseburger and it was solid meal and fries were delicious. My wife went with the special poke bowl and she loved it. Very accommodating as we were traveling with our dogs and they allowed us to sit in an uncovered section of their patio away from most other folks. Had the Brookside burger which had good flavor, veggies were fresh, and accommodations I requested came out perfect--fries were very good too! Took my mother-in-law out for her birthday. This place had a lodgey vibe, which was nice with the fireplace. Our waitress was friendly, but wasn't as attentive as we had hoped. It was a Monday night and wasn't very busy. Mixed reviews on the food from my party. I had the Caesar salad and asked for no anchovies and the dressing tasted so fishy. I could barely eat it. The squash soup was very good. They didn't have something on the menu which we found out after the apps were on the table, so that person's meal didn't come out until way after we all got our food. He had ordered an app that he wanted to go with the meal he originally ordered, so it was just not ideal. No comps or anything. Someone had the fish and chips which they enjoyed, but the steak tips weren't great and the plating of the Caesar salads (we got 3) made it difficult to eat. Lastly, at the beginning of the meal I had asked if they do cake and sing Happy Birthday. She said they don't normally, but would be happy to, which I appreciated. Haven't been here since the name change and stopped in for an early diner with the family. We were pleasantly greeted and were the only ones there and we were placed at a high top table which had a good view outside. Our server was the bartender and she was very pleasant and promptly took our drink orders. We ordered 3 small salads and the fried pickles. The salad came and oddly it was only one small salad and 3 plates and sat in the middle of the table, it was a good salad but not what we were asking for but didn't make a fuss and just ate it. The fried pickles were good and everyone enjoyed them. My wife ordered the blue steak with blue cheese filled mushrooms and my daughter ordered the a shrimp and scallop mushroom ravioli and I ordered the steak tips. The food came out and my wife who asked for her steak to be well done had a rare steak come out and sent it back, it came back out 10minutes later and it was still rare, not even medium rare so it was sent back again. The third time it came back out it was like leather and had burnt mushrooms with it. Note: if food has to go back and forth do not keep the old stuff with it and serve it burnt. By the time my wife finally received her meal which was uneatable at that point my daughter and I were finished eating. My daughter's meal was also drowned in a mushroom gravy sauce with half cooked raviolis that were gummy so she traded with me when I was halfway through my steak tips which were very bland and flavorless. Our server did take off my wife's meal and comped her drinks so that was appreciated. Great setting with good service, but the food is subpar. read more

My family of 9 went there last Saturday and I have to say the place is beautiful. everyone at our table complained to me about how the food was not good. It tasted like they never cleaned the grill I had the Portuguese seafood dish. My husband had swordfish kebabs. My sister had fish and chips- had what are you doing taste, and smelled so fishy my regret is, I never complained to the server about it, which I should've because we paid a lot of money the burgers tasted horrible. was done too much and like I said there was a funny taste to it. The server was not attentive at all. We had to ask for everything and we had to wait so long for anything we asked for. . I would never go back to this restaurant. The only thing they have good for them. It's a beautiful area and the restaurant is beautiful. This is my second review and I still haven't been contacted. I decided to try the pig wings bc you don't come across that very often & everyone teased about them. They were moist inside & flash fried in a corn meal coating. Absolutely amazing experience. We went there after a funeral for a veteran at the national cemetery. They see us even though they weren't open yet and let it sit and relax service ice waters, and drinks until the kitchen opened at 11. They had just recently changed their hours so they were open on Wednesdays. What a quick of fate that that happened on the same day that we were going to be on the Cape. Everyone was amazing from the server to the hostess to the people that took the food everything was perfect never had such an amazing amazing meal, something were a little pricey, but we still got some things and had to drink relaxed. It was just awesome. Can't wait to go back down there again and try a few other things. The atmosphere seemed quaint and the food O had was not bad. I finished my drink and my meal at the bar and asked for the check. I got the check and quickly saw they had a QR code to pay with. I paid via QR said thank you and walked to my car. The bartender came out accusing me that I didn't pay the bill. I told them I paid by QR and showed them the screen on my phone to which the bartender said she didn't know they had that. First of all and probably the best part of dinner was location and layout of the restaurant. It looked out over the beautiful golf course and the water. The service was adequate but the menu said to ask the waiter for the craft beers on tap and he wasn't able to tell us everything available. The food itself quite frankly wasn't very good. The calamari appetizer wasn't very flavorful, my wife had a salmon burger that didn't appear to have any salmon in it but plenty of filler and the homemade chips were almost burnt with once again very little flavor. Finally I had stuffed flounder which had a great write up for the dish including hollandaise sauce but was very bland. This would be a great location for a drink and watching the sun go down but I would not recommend it for a meal. read more

I had the opportunity this evening to do some solo restaurant recon and chose to check out The Bog Tavern at the Brookside Club (11 Brigadoone Rd.) in Bourne, right off of Route 28. For those with a penchant for one-sentence reviews--and you know who you are--here is the "Cliff Notes" Review: Comfortable and causal venue, creative menu, good quality food at reasonable prices, and engaging, friendly service. For everyone else, please enjoy an actual review. I selected The Bog Tavern for two reasons--1 The posted menu seemed creative and not filled with the "same old, same old" dishes one tends to see at so many Cape restaurants; and 2. We had dined at the Bog Tavern more than four years ago prior to their move to the Brookside Club when they were a stand-alone restaurant(which is still unoccupied) and had a delightful, memorable meal. When I arrived, the parking lot was full and I was worried that I might not be able to find a seat at the bar. It turned out that they were hosting a wedding on the second floor and there was plenty of seating at the bar and in the dining room. The dining room, complete with a large gas fireplace overlooks the golfs course there and is just lovely. Really warm and comfortable. Natalie was behind the bar, a seasoned veteran, warm, affable and efficient who has worked at The Bog for nine years and has plenty of stories to tell. Just a delight. I ordered a Woodford Manhattan up and enjoyed watching Natalie prepare my drink, served in a stemless martini glass along with the "rocks." I took my time reviewing the menu, even though I had spent a fair amount of time reviewing the menu before going there. Two things of note. First, even though the online menu for The Bog does not contain prices, which is always annoying, their FB page does have a current menu with prices. Second, in addition to the regular menu, there were five specials this evenings which made ordering for me a little more complicated than I had originally planned--even though I appreciated the added choices. I liked the menu which is why I had decided to dine there solo. While there are many conventional things on the menu, e.g., meatloaf, steak tips, and almond crusted haddock, there are also some rather hard to find dishes like chicken and waffles, cedar plank salmon, crispy duck, and coconut crusted Mahi. Among the specials for tonight were fried whole belly clams and chicken fried chicken among other delights, They have lots of interesting appetizers and it would be easy to compose a meal just from them. Originally I considered doing just that, but then decided to go for three courses instead. started with the sesame tuna kabobs, then ordered the chicken and sausage gumbo from the evening specials menu, and for my main course I ordered the crispy duck with cranberry mandarin relish but passed on the spinach parmesan risotto to avoid the extra carbs. The tuna kabobs had a good flavor, but they were more "well done" than I would have expected. Natalie asked me what I thought of them and before I could give an assessment she said, "dry, right?" How did she know? Yes, they were dry and not as moist as I would have liked. She explained that they were breaking in a new sous chef and that she would mention it. They were still tasty, but not as good as I think they could have been. The chicken and sausage "gumbo" was delicious, very flavorful, but it was not really a gumbo since there didn't seem to be a roux binding the soup together into an actual gumbo. Moreover, the sausage in the soup was not andouille, as I might have expected, but a fennel-infused Italian sausage. Still, it was really tasty and satisfying. The crispy half duck was outstanding, especially with the cranberry mandarin dipping sauce. Beautifully crispy skin and very tender meat. The duck was rendered perfectly and the meat was absolutely luscious and flavorful. I enjoyed interacting with some other patrons at the bar who absolutely crushed the two dishes they ordered and seemed very pleased with the quality of the food. It was a really pleasant event and I would certainly dine here again to explore more of their menu as well as their evening specials. read more

Truly a wonderful place to go! We also tried the Coconut Crusted Mahi Mahi, which is great on its own but comes with a really good risotto, and I typically don't even like risotto! The lobster roll and clam chowder were the best we've had so far, with the latter being very unique! It was a lower viscosity (not as thick as others), and had whole clams and bacon in it. The macaroni and cheese was also incredible, certainly made to order as claimed, though the noodles were longer than you may think! Yummy crème brûlée, of course. The service was really great, too! Nice little spot located on a golf course. Main entrees seemed a little pricey, but the "pub" food was reasonable. Wife had the fried green tomato BLT. We couldn't believe how much bacon was on it. The tomatoes were cut thin so you could taste them and the bread seemed fresh. I had the Bog Burger. It was cooked perfectly, but nothing special. Pretty solid place. My boyfriend and I stopped in this past Friday night while visiting the Cape Cod area. The parking lot was completely filled but we got seated immediately and they had some tables available. We started with the pretzels special which was delicious. It came with an aioli mustard sauce! I got the short rib special as my main meal. It came with mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts. The short rib was super tender and had delicious flavor. The mashed potatoes were delightful. The brussel sprouts lacked flavoring. My boyfriend got the fish and chips and enjoyed them, especially the breading since they were different than most places in the New England. This never happened despite getting up and asking another waitress to tell our waitress we were ready to order. We are only here for 7 weeks every year. While here, we eat here 1-2 times a week. We LOVE this place! Last week for lunch, we brought friends, all of whom had never been. We all bellied up to the bar to hang out with the bartender, who is a sassy broad that we love! Every person was FLOORED by this place, and we all travel for a living. We make foodies look tame. This time, we got the Shrimp, Scallop and Mushroom Ravioli (I just can't stay away from this dish. I dream about it when I'm 2000 miles away), and the BF got the meatloaf. I made fun of him. My Mom, who cooks exactly 5 dishes, can make meatloaf. I don't condone coming to a place THIS good and getting MEATLOAF. But.....it was DAMN good! This is NOT yo mama's meatloaf! This was SO GOOD. Not sure what seasonings they use or what that gravy was, but dayum! Nice! One of our friends got their version of the lobster roll, which was a lobster sandwich the size of your head! I mean, a full half pound of lobster!??!?! It was so big, he literally laughed out loud at the idea of trying to get his mouth around it. After a valiant effort, he was able to eat some, said it was INSANELY good, then took more than half home. Held my mother's repass lunch at the Bog Tavern. Michele was so easy to work with, and really made a tough time a lot easier. Everything was as expected and they kindly wrapped up all our extra food to take with us. We ended up with a sunny day so we all were able to enjoy the upper deck looking out on the golf course. it is very convenient to Bourne national cemetery. I live and work here in Bourne so I recently started to frequent the Bog Pub. I go after work for a drink (or two!), an appetizer and sometimes dinner. I always sit at the bar. The bartender, Eitan, is friendly and welcoming. He serves the best red Sangria ever! My coworker and I went for drinks after work. We had two sangrias each and we paid $52 (before tip). First of all, we go there every week. It's our "CHEERS". The food is great, the service first class, and the drinks are a "good pour" if you follow me. The chef, Kirk, well. Needed Christmas dinner for ten. The theme was "Portugal". Don't ask. I needed it catered. Again, don't ask. Accident happened at prior to Christmas. I talked to Kirk. In two minutes he told me what he'd do for a Portugal themed Christmas. Couple of changes and delivered Christmas Day ...yes....Christmas day and spectacular. Off the graph. Beautiful soup. No big deal,but what was a big deal is the following Wife's ordered cold slaw waitress informed that it "came with the meal" would she like some frys? Sure! Why not! I had a Makers mark Manhattan it was well made. Skip to the bill,$16 dollars for the Manhattan,oh and those frys. Couple of bucks thrown on for those too. When we asked for a breakdown,we were informed that $4 was added for the makers mark, glad I didn't order a second! Bottom line, look we all know places are struggling, but this kind of gouging and clandestine up selling will not help places in the long run.
