This Greek restaurant has been around for a long time but finally was able to try. Place is very busy and you cannot make reservations during the weekend so be prepared to wait. There's also a few patio seating for ones that enjoy chilling outside during a warm summer day. We were a party of 7 so ordered various dishes including beef roll, dip platter with pita bread and my favorite fried calamari. Beef roll and fried calamari was amazing so must try. Most folks ordered pork souvlaki dinners which comes with a good portion of rice and potatoes along with an Greek salad. But I had to be different so ordered the Grilled Lambchops Dinner - grilled to perfection in medium and extremely yummy. Lamb is an acquired taste but for lamb lovers this is a must order! Overall great experience. Customer service was above par given how busy it was, food portion was solid and prices very reasonable compared to other greek restaurants. This place is a solid Greek offering. Got a chance to try the small kria poikilia (a platter with an assortment of dips), and a chicken souvlaki dinner. The dip platter was phenomenal, and would be reason alone for me to return. The four given are staples like tzatziki and hummus, and a couple of less common ones: taramosalata (red caviar dip) and melitzanosalata (eggplant-based dip) and provided excellent diversity in taste. The chicken souvlaki is typical souvlaki. Nice, large chicken skewer with a helping of rice and potatoes, which wasn't as much as I would've expected. When there's a long lineup for like the millionth Greek restaurant at the Danforth, it must be worth checking out. I'm happy to report that Mezes didn't let us down. We got: - Small Kria Poikilia: Dip platter with tzatziki, taramosalata, hummus and melitzanosalata. Each dip was tastier than the next, the serving size was huge, and the accompanying garlic pita was soft and chewy. - Saganaki: Who wouldn't like cheese flambeed in brandy? This one though collapsed a bit after it was fired up. Still tasted good, would just have wanted more. - Keftedes: Secret family recipe meatballs. Pretty good, though didn't really taste that unique and was a tad dry. - Fried Calamari: When choosing between the grilled or fried calamari, our server told us to go with fried since it was "the good one"... and he was right! Lightly battered so you taste the sweetness of the calamari, not overly fried yet also not soggy. I can easily see why they claim this to be their famous dish. With so many Greek restaurants in the Danforth, it's hard to stand out. I think Mezes has just enough to do so. read more

I have been coming to Mezes for many years. I have only ordered once since the pandemic (which was great) and went back for the first time to dine at the restaurant. Based on some of the reviews - I was a little concerned that perhaps things had changed... We arrived at 6pm on a beautiful evening and it was understandably busy, we put our name on the list and were told it could be up to 45 minutes. I was prepared for the wait but tables turnover pretty quickly and they have expanded their patio). Before we could have a discussion about whether or not we should look elsewhere or kill some time window shopping, they texted me that the table was ready (I think it was faster because we were flexible on inside or outside) I forgot to take pictures because we hoovered up the food so quickly! But my M.O here is to order all sharable mezes, in all times I have been here i have never ordered an entree - but I am sure they are great. Came to Mezes with a couple of friends on a weekend night and was extremely satisfied with the meal. We went a bit crazy on ordering and got the following: fried calamari entree, arni psito, tzatziki dip, grilled octopus appetizer, and one of the pies. The portions were pretty big and for one person a dinner entree would've been sufficient. The food itself was very delicious. My only complaint is that you only get one plate of bread for the entire table unless you purchase additional bread. As a bread lover, this made The servers are super friendly here and was very prompt with topping up our water. I had the Greek salad and chicken souvlaki in a pita. Was disappointed with the pita. Thin and greasy. I found the chicken a weird texture. Not sure if it wasn't fully cooked or what the problem was. We started with 4 small dips and more of that greasy pita. The taramasalata was pretty good. The others all reminded me of something out of a can. Kinda tasteless. My husband had the beef souvlaki dinner. Said the beef was done perfectly and he loved the potatoes. Also found the salad a little dull. Service was great! Never felt ignored. Food came promptly. I liked the octopus. Now for the main were told the portions are big so I decided to order the quails. Rest of the dc stuck to Souvlaki. The main come with a salad which was decent. Hmm the quails were just bland. Devoid of taste and not very meaty. The sides of potato was OK and the rice was forgettable. I did try the saganaki as dc ordered it as well. I ordered a chicken souvlaki dinner, and it was trash, the server was annoying not once did he check up on our table after the food was sent to our table. The salad was so mediocre with a random slice of green pepper, bread was hard and cold. I was shocked at how they even messed up the rice, horrible service and food. Ordered thru Uber Eats during COVID lockdown as the family was craving Greek and we've never tried this place before. Grilled calamari was great, wife liked that it wasn't too charred and you get a lot in the order. We also liked the brown sauce that came with it. Chicken souvlaki met sons approval. Greek salad comes with every meal. Not sure if I overlooked it but not sure it actually said that at Uber website. So I ordered a large Greek salad in addition for $17.50. A bit disappointing as the salad had a fancy name but was really no different from what you'd get a Mr. Greek or any number of food court Greek places. Couple of olives a few cherry tomatoes a whole bunch of iceberg lettuce and a decent sprinkling of feta. We got not one but TWO of the hard white stems found at the bottom of the lettuce head. Gee, thanks, that's my favourite part. Lamb chops were good size but a lot of fatty parts that you couldn't eat. You get four chops in the dinner, taste was good. Moussaka was probably the best dish of the bunch. Really meaty and tasty. Rice is solid so was garlic bread. Potatoes were a bit bland. Not sure I'd go back there were a few highlights but a number of things we ordered were just so so. We ordered enough for four people and I think it came to about $160 including delivery tax and tip. All the greek places serve the same menu but it's in the quality of the cooking. Mezes deserve the 5 stars. The Octapodi Skaras $20 - was grilled perfectly with lemon flavour taste. The presentation could be stepped up but overall tasted very good. We had the Beef Sovlouki Dinner $24 - medium rare was medium rare! So good. Potatoes that came with it was okay. We added Vegetables (+$4) - it was good as well and upgraded to the Horiatiki salad (+$4) - salad with a block of cheese. Traditional Greek food. It was good but we couldn't finish all the food. The ambiance was okay, noisy for my taste but the food was good. Recommend booking ahead on Yelp waitlist. A few weeks ago, I had a concert with some family at the Danforth, so (when in Greektown!) we decided to go for Greek before the show. Wanted to try this spot out and the 4 of us were lucky to get in with no wait! As a vegetarian, I was so happy for the number of veggie options -- there is an entire section of the menu just for us. :) You can do shared apps, which seems to be the typical Mezes way (Mezes means 'appetizers'), or go for plated meal. My aunt and cousin and I did a number of shared veggie apps while my uncle did his own thing. We did a dipping platter to start plus the stuffed potatoes, the beet filo, and a side of rice. This was more than enough food for 3 people and we couldn't finish it all! (Most of the apps come with enough for 4.) Greek isn't on my usual rotation so it was really fun to go and try something different! We tried Greek wine too, just to stay in the spirit. Delicious. Got the stuffed peppers , tomato and zucchini dish, calamari, shared dip, fried zucchini and moussaka. I was hoping to try the smelt dish but they were out. Next time ! Really divine food, from appetizers through to dessert. The Roza is a very special and delicious wine, especially with the grilled octopus. Seating staff are lovely, and while the wait staff are quite curt and "straight to business", they are never unkind. It actually kind of completes the vibe and I enjoy it. The new location is a little less cozy, but it is very beautiful. Lots of seating options, bright lighting, tons of outdoor seating for the warmer months, lovely decor.
