All the hand painted artwork gives you plenty to look at while waiting. I ordered their love salad with chicken added. It was awesome. And huge. I will definitely be back and definitely want to hang out in their bar. Looks great!

I'm always looking for great pizza in unexpected places in CT. Earlier this year, I noticed Mama…read moreMia on a monthly Yelp List identifying the Most Popular Restaurants in Connecticut. That's how I first learned about @brickandbasil in Yantic. I visited several months ago, but forgot to post my review. There was a bit of a hiccup when I visited. I drove about 40 minutes to get there, and when I arrived, I learned that they were closed for their first ever private Baby Shower party. I was crushed. But this story has a rated PG Happy Ending. I called the restaurant and spoke to Amy. I explained that I had driven a ways and asked if they could make me a pizza to go. They didn't take long to tell me that they would make me the first pizza of the day before the shower got into Full Swing. I was grateful for their hospitality, and terrific wood-fired pizza. I was inside briefly. They have plenty of seating and a bar that with decor suggesting a love of music. I ordered the Mama Mia and ate a couple slices outside. It had sliced meatball, roasted red pepper, mozzarella and ricotta on a good chewy Wood Fired Crust. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. The red sauce had bright flavor. The ricotta was creamy and fluffy. Brick and Basil is well respected in pizza circles, and I can see why. It started as a food truck. But a food truck that starts with the word Brick, was bound to have a Brick and Mortar. And we're lucky they do. 5 Stars

Big Dawggs - Chili & Cheese Dog and the best French Fries on the planet!

For over three years, I would be driving to central Connecticut to ride the rail trails, and I…read morewould pass this food truck on route 138 in Griswold. Each time I've been heading out, I'd tell myself, "I'll stop on the way back." But every time, I'd be so tired from my ride or just really wanted to get into a hot shower, that I'd murmur to myself, "Next time." Well, after this scenario played itself out for the umpteenth time, I decided to ride out to it by way of Arcadia. OMFG! Was this place ever so good! The absolutely best French Fries I've ever eaten and after looking at the menu, I can understand why. Being a small food truck, they probably only have one fryolator. So everything gets cooked in the oil they use. The Hot Dog I ordered was the BBQ Dawgg. A beef Hot Dog wrapped in Bacon and then deep fried until the Bacon is crispy. Into a tasty, but not overly huge Bun and topped with grilled Onions and BBQ Sauce. So you get the Bacon fat and Hot Dog fat mixing in with whatever kind of oil they are using, which imparts all those flavors into the French Fries. Service is fast and friendly.

I look forward to testing more of their menu. The fries were well seasoned and perfectly crispy. I love the rolls and it's even better that it wasn't hot dog buns!! They should produce key rings for purchase - the number tags are awesome and I would definitely buy one.

I wish I had been hungrier and I wish I hadn't just come from a brewery because their seasonal cocktails sounded amazing. Their chips weren't my favorite, but that's a personal preference. I like thinner chips. The salsa was very good though. My fiance got the fajita trio and it was a massive amount of food. Please go here if you are in the area.

A-MAZING drinks, food, ambience and staff!! We used to travel to Westerly RI (Amigos, also yummy)…read morebut this is much closer to home. Went for date night first last week then brought the kids this week. The DRINKS: Both times the margaritas were so good and well-balanced. My fave is the "Perfect Margarita" and it did not disappoint x 2 (and I'm a snob when it comes to margaritas). My lady had the cherry and house margaritas both yummy too (yes I tried them both). The FOOD: OMG. Not kidding. Taco Tuesday is the day to go for those addicting Birria tacos with consommé dip! My 12-yo who loves Mexican food said this was better than Rio Salado's carnitas which used to be his favorite. My lady had the empanadas and that fried shell made the meal even more tasty. Another go-to entree. I also sampled my boy's mole burrito with chicken. That chicken was so tender and still juicy...the mole sauce was perfectly balanced between sweet with a mild spiciness on the back end. Good enough for my boy to gobble it all up. The AMBIENCE: colorful, cheery, vibrant, energetic. If you're still on a bad mood after a margarita and a live Mariachi band on Wednesdays, then you might need more than Mexican vibes to help you. The STAFF: you can tell the lik/LOVE where they are. I specifically want to shout out to STEFFI who has been there with us every time we come in. She knows our names, our story, and what we like to eat/drink. Her personality is infectious and the rest of the staff follow her lead to provide customer service that defines a small town restaurant where locals are family. If that's TLDR and you just scrolled down to the last line of this review: GO TO EL TRAVIEZO and thank me later.; you will not regret it. See you at the bar!!!
