Cajun fries and the Chicago dog.

Delicious, fresh hot dogs and fries. Quick friendly service!! I've had several items on the menu over the years and I haven't found anything I dislike.

I've been here half a dozen times now. The short: Nathan's 100% beef, 1/4 lb. hot dawggs are served here. It is my understanding that they are Gluten free (please verify for yourself as I am not the manufacturer). The fries, chili (which seems to be bean free (I haven't found one)), and clam chowder (weekends only I believe) are home made. I do not find the chili to be spicy, just flavorful (and delicious). The long: The hot dawgg is fatter than my thumb and fits the full length of a bun. Buns for the dawgg and burger come toasted (and they are perfectly done). So are the burgers and dawggs for that matter. Both are cooked to perfection leaving all the juices to be deposited on your shirt if you are not careful. Hot dog buns are not New England style (as you can see in the photos). If you order a Junk Yard Dawgg you can get a rewards card. Buy 9 Big Dawggs & get the 10th free. This particular dawgg is pretty much a meal in and of itself. This is a great concoction (it includes sauerkraut). My favorite version of this dog has always been found in NYC, but no more, this is waaay better). Plus the ham, the bacon, the peppers.... oh, it's sooo good........sorry for the delay, I was just lost in a day dream about it. As for the Taco Dawgg, it's covered in fresh veggies and I think it really works. Super delicious. The crunch of the Frito's really makes it. I'll be getting more in the future. The burger is a good size at 5oz and has a good beef flavor. Not some cheap hockey puck you get from some places. Had one with cheese & sautéed onions, not on the menu per se but owner was more than accommodating and pretty much will put anything together. They are very friendly, even the young one was courteous & smiled, and didn't look like a suicidal mope, totally opposite. Very nice to see that as a customer. I'm going to try a few more items over a period of time before I give it that last star. :-P

Love that the kids have a place to play while dining--hot dogs, fries, mac n cheese, and ice cream for today's summer lunch!

Just not good. Fries are kinda soggy and undercooked. The dogs are not a good grade of meat and taste off.

They have their takeout service down to a science. This is one of those pizza places where it would be best to go with a large group of people order several different styles of pizzas and kind of do a tasting? However, I went solo and thoroughly enjoyed my Mamma Mia. Great pizza, cool bar and very old school pizza joint vibes inside.

I'm always looking for great pizza in unexpected places in CT. Earlier this year, I noticed Mama…read moreMia on a monthly Yelp List identifying the Most Popular Restaurants in Connecticut. That's how I first learned about @brickandbasil in Yantic. I visited several months ago, but forgot to post my review. There was a bit of a hiccup when I visited. I drove about 40 minutes to get there, and when I arrived, I learned that they were closed for their first ever private Baby Shower party. I was crushed. But this story has a rated PG Happy Ending. I called the restaurant and spoke to Amy. I explained that I had driven a ways and asked if they could make me a pizza to go. They didn't take long to tell me that they would make me the first pizza of the day before the shower got into Full Swing. I was grateful for their hospitality, and terrific wood-fired pizza. I was inside briefly. They have plenty of seating and a bar that with decor suggesting a love of music. I ordered the Mama Mia and ate a couple slices outside. It had sliced meatball, roasted red pepper, mozzarella and ricotta on a good chewy Wood Fired Crust. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. The red sauce had bright flavor. The ricotta was creamy and fluffy. Brick and Basil is well respected in pizza circles, and I can see why. It started as a food truck. But a food truck that starts with the word Brick, was bound to have a Brick and Mortar. And we're lucky they do. 5 Stars

Warm colors, wood accents, friendly staff. Not an overwhelming menu, I always like to see a place that is focusing on core foods and not trying to do too much. The blues may be a little too loud, but blues music is the soundtrack to BBQ food, especially Memphis style, so it's a good fit. I got a two meat combo plate, with ribs, burnt endz, bacon mac and cheese, and dill potato salad. Let's address the lesser aspects so we can end on a high note. The burnt endz. I assume they're spelled with a z in the same way spray can cheese is cheez. I know that there are only going to be so many true burnt ends with bark and tender meat inside per brisket, and so a restaurant is likely going to supplement with chopped point. However, there should not be huge fat caps on most of the cubes, or just cubes of fat. At least having some true burnt ends in an order would be nice too. The mac and cheese I received was delivered lukewarm, and I'm not sure what was up with that, so I didn't eat much of it. Now for the high point finisher! Those ribs man. These things were spectacular, and the light slap of sauce on them was just right to deliver the brown sugar flavor to your mouth without being excessive, or drown out the meat itself. When all these other reviews rave about the ribs being worth a drive, they mean it. Also, the dill potato salad is a win. Not heavy, not slap you with vinegar or mustard, but flavorful with dill and bacon. I scraped the bottom of my bowl to get it all. All in all, worth a visit, and another joint in Colchester that adds to the prestigious food scene that town is building.
