The owner and workers are awesome people. They engaged in conversation. They are down to earth and they put out some amazing food. Definitely stopping at their food truck again!! I look forward to testing more of their menu. The fries were well seasoned and perfectly crispy. I love the rolls and it's even better that it wasn't hot dog buns!! For over three years, I would be driving to central Connecticut to ride the rail trails, and I would pass this food truck on route 138 in Griswold. Each time I've been heading out, I'd tell myself, "I'll stop on the way back." But every time, I'd be so tired from my ride or just really wanted to get into a hot shower, that I'd murmur to myself, "Next time." Well, after this scenario played itself out for the umpteenth time, I decided to ride out to it by way of Arcadia. OMFG! Was this place ever so good! The absolutely best French Fries I've ever eaten and after looking at the menu, I can understand why. Being a small food truck, they probably only have one fryolator. So everything gets cooked in the oil they use. The Hot Dog I ordered was the BBQ Dawgg. A beef Hot Dog wrapped in Bacon and then deep fried until the Bacon is crispy. Into a tasty, but not overly huge Bun and topped with grilled Onions and BBQ Sauce. So you get the Bacon fat and Hot Dog fat mixing in with whatever kind of oil they are using, which imparts all those flavors into the French Fries. Service is fast and friendly. read more

This is a fun little roadside food truck. You would not expect it to be there, but there it is! They have a huge variety of hotdogs as well as burgers. I personally have only tried the hotdogs and fries and we have never been disappointed. The food comes out fast and fresh. The staff working there are always friendly and move as quickly as they can. The hotdogs and toppings always taste fresh and are delicious. There's a play area for the children to play in while they wait for their food. Plenty of tables are available and most have an umbrella to block out the hot summer sun. If you're in the area stop by and give this place a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

I really enjoy getting the gravy fries from Big Dawggs whenever I'm out that way! The fries are cooked perfectly to a dark golden brown and smothered with cheese and brown gravy. Growing up near the Canadian border I always got classic poutine but since moving to CT it can be hard to find. Big Dawggs crafts my poutine cravings excellently every time! Service is always fast and the food has been amazing every time I've ordered. Staff are friendly and helpful. You can eat on the property thanks to their picnic tables with umbrellas. It's located at Di Roma's garden center so you can shop for plants and get some amazing food all at one location! Highly recommend!! read more

Big Dawggs - Cajun fries and the Chicago dog. - Hot Dogs Near Me - Griswold, Connecticut

I've been here half a dozen times now. The short: Nathan's 100% beef, 1/4 lb. hot dawggs are served here. It is my understanding that they are Gluten free (please verify for yourself as I am not the manufacturer). The fries, chili (which seems to be bean free (I haven't found one)), and clam chowder (weekends only I believe) are home made. I do not find the chili to be spicy, just flavorful (and delicious). The long: The hot dawgg is fatter than my thumb and fits the full length of a bun. Buns for the dawgg and burger come toasted (and they are perfectly done). So are the burgers and dawggs for that matter. Both are cooked to perfection leaving all the juices to be deposited on your shirt if you are not careful. Hot dog buns are not New England style (as you can see in the photos). If you order a Junk Yard Dawgg you can get a rewards card. Buy 9 Big Dawggs & get the 10th free. This particular dawgg is pretty much a meal in and of itself. This is a great concoction (it includes sauerkraut). My favorite version of this dog has always been found in NYC, but no more, this is waaay better). Plus the ham, the bacon, the peppers.... oh, it's sooo good........sorry for the delay, I was just lost in a day dream about it. As for the Taco Dawgg, it's covered in fresh veggies and I think it really works. Super delicious. The crunch of the Frito's really makes it. I'll be getting more in the future. The burger is a good size at 5oz and has a good beef flavor. Not some cheap hockey puck you get from some places. Had one with cheese & sautéed onions, not on the menu per se but owner was more than accommodating and pretty much will put anything together. They are very friendly, even the young one was courteous & smiled, and didn't look like a suicidal mope, totally opposite. Very nice to see that as a customer. I'm going to try a few more items over a period of time before I give it that last star. :-P read more

We stopped here for a quick bite and I ordered the chili dawg... perfect. Chili was not spicy and I totally enjoyed the dawg. My spouse had the sauerkraut dawg with spicy mustard which was also very good with a side of fries... all was delicious and I can't wait to go back and try the taco dawg. I can't believe this place is just down the road - and I've never tried it! That's definitely in the past! The hot dogs are FABULOUS! We each had a hot dog and shared a large fry - and we were stuffed! Went back later for ice cream (which was excellent and more reasonable that that famous place down the road) ... When you get tired of the fast food burger joints, give this place a try. The food is made fresh and hot while you wait. It is worth the 20 minute drive it takes for me to get there. I have had burgers, dogs and cheese fries from here and the only complaint is that cheese fries need to be eaten right away (instead of taking them home) or else the cheese will harden and stick to the fries, making one solid piece of cheese and fries. This is because they use real cheddar cheese instead of the liquid nacho cheese stuff. read more

What a great surprise! We were in the area and decided to find a place to stop for lunch. We had the Chicago Dawg, the BBQ Dawg (deep fried bacon dog!), and the German Dawg and loved them all.
