A real Plainfielder for years recommended that I try this place, so at my first opportunity I got a chocolate/vanilla swirl with a butterscotch dip. The dip was the best part of the dessert. We only went to Hanks for Ice Cream, and only here because Buttonwood homemade ice cream had a line about 50 people long. We were a bit disappointed that only soft serve was available at a "dairy bar". Choc, van, twist, coffee and strawberry were available. All of the topping options you would expect (no hot butterscotch!) , and birthday cake hard dip. I will say that the fried clams looked yummy, and the service was great. Would I rather have homemade ice cream? Yep, any day. If I had kids who just wanted ice cream though, this place would be ok. There is a swingset to use and porta potties in the parking lot. I heard good things about Hanks and decided to surprise my husband with his favorite, fried scallops. The staff was friendly and my 2 scallop dinners were done within 10 minutes. Or should I say underdone. The scallops were not fully cooked, tasteless, and even the grease was flavorless. The fries were very good. The Coleslaw was one of the most revolting things I have ever eaten, it is not, in any way, coleslaw. All I tasted were onions ( why??) and pepper and some sauce that was not in any way slaw sauce, but made me think if what mold might taste like if made into sauce. Oh, and raw onions make me sick. Didn't think I needed to mention this since nothing I ordered should have, in a normal world, had raw onions in it. I broiled the scallops in my oven with some salt and made some homemade tartar sauce since HANKS DID NOT PROVIDE ANY and made the meal at least edible. Won't be going back. Seafood poisoning is not high on my list of things to try. And the nausea from the raw onions was not enjoyable, either. read more
