Usually Great, But Off Night Tonight My wife and I come to Mexico (the restaurant) often -- it's close to home and super convenient. We can usually leave, eat, and be back home in under an hour, which makes it one of our go-to spots. Tonight, though, the food just wasn't quite up to its usual standard. My wife ordered the Pollo Yucatán, which she usually loves, but tonight it had too much tomato flavor and was missing the balance it normally has. I had the chicken chimichangas, which are usually a favorite of mine. Unfortunately, the flavor was lacking, and the chicken wasn't as moist or seasoned as usual. The chimichangas also could have used a little more time in the fryer to get that crispy texture we love. The rice was another letdown. It's typically delicious when it comes with the mixed vegetables, but this time it was plain and a bit bland -- maybe I just didn't get a good scoop when it was plated. We'll definitely be back because this place is usually pretty good, but tonight felt like an off night. read more

We walked in and had 10 people. They quickly got us a table setup for us all to enjoy our meal together. Food has so many great choices that it took a bit to decide, kids food came out first adults meals followed pretty soon after. Everyone was eating and sharing to try how this or that was! Awful and rude service. Waitress forgot half of drink order, and once she was made aware, her response was "Yeah I know I'm busy". Would not recommend this place unless you want to be spoke to in a rude manner and not receive food for at least an hour. Steak quesadilla tasted like it was made with American cheese. The chicken quesadillas appetizer was one lonely small serving with no lettuce, salsa or sour cream. Friendly, fast service. Delicious, authentic flavors served fresh and hot. The menu has changed a few times since I first found this chain, but it is for the better each time. They actually pay attention to the customers and trends. They serve good margaritas and chilled draft beers such as Dos Equis amber. While everything we tried was delicious. Want to love this place but just cannot keep dealing with this. The last 4 times I've been to order pick up, my order was wrong! When you finally get them to answer the phone, they say that's not the order they took. They don't know who took the order. Who cares! Fix it but it happens over and over! What's worse, they act like you're making it up. They are not consistent with food quality either. The place is local and for that has consistent customers. I was very disappointed with the take out food. My Gordo burrito was absolutely awful. It was stone cold, filled with a bunch of rice and 5 pieces of meat. The whole meal was missing its usual amount of queso and beans. My wife's grilled steak taco salad was also missing the mark, a few pieces of lettuce and a few pieces of steak that was tough and over cooked, we thought that since it was a salad there would be salad dressing there wasn't anything and everything was dry like shoe leather. We eat take out from Mexico Restaurant 2-3 times a month, the food is usually outstanding, not this time. They need to start doing some quality control. Interior is simple but the booths are nice and comfortable and clean. The front desk person was moderately friendly and the server was just okay. Delivered the food and didn't return to check on it for 15 mins. The chips are fresh and not greasy at all but a tidbit thick; their house made salsa definitely came to the rescue and made me want to eat a few more then I would have if it wasn't so tasty. If you like thick chips you'll enjoy there. I can't come into a Mexican restaurant without trying their margaritas so I got a traditional frozen. It was blended to perfection however it was one of the strongest drinks I've had in a very long time. I dare to say I won't get more than 1/4 down...safety first, gotta drive home. The main entree (Jalisco Special), was highly recommended by other Yelpers so I went for it. The ribeye was thinly cut and seasoned. Unfortunately it's not memorable, nor was the chicken breast. If blindfolded and ask to identify it's origin, I could not identify either proteins as Mexican. Were it not for the side salad and the refried beans, which were excellent, I wouldn't have had a meal for the evening. No dessert was attempted this time. Sorry. BTW...If you're sensitive to Covid protocol, there is no outside dining available and not one person working in the establishment wore a mask. I was the ONLY customer with a mask which I only removed to consume food. Unbelievably, NO ONE even attempted to use a mask (staff or customers) as there were lots of families with young children/babies dining in. This is a perfect replica of every Mexican/Peruvian/Guatemalan restaurant that we have along a stretch of road in Charlotte that we call "Burrito Way." Classic Americanized Mexican food - tacos, burritos, chimichangas, nachos and the like. Don't get me wrong, though. It's good food. Tasty, filling, fast and inexpensive. I liked it. One of the only redeeming qualities is the excellent service. You'll see the circus height tent from the road as you approach Mexico restaurant from the highway - it's hard to miss. But I honestly wish I'd just have kept driving. We arrived and were immediately seated. The chips and salsa came out fresh and delicious which is always welcome! From there, however, the it kind of went downhill. I ordered the "new" Al Pastor burrito. When the food arrived, the meat was extremely dry and I honestly thought they were pieces of burnt potatoes as they lacked any discernible flavor and consistency. The rice that was inside the burrito also was very bland which made the entire meal justifiably sad - not to mention the burrito didn't come with sides which means I just get to keep jamming away at the chips and salsa! It's been awhile, and we tired of Chinese and Thai, so thought we would try the old stand-by again. I ordered the Burrito Cancun, which used to be a really big vegetable burrito, but this time not so big. It was still big enough I guess, but was noticeably smaller than before. It seemed that the portion sizes have shrunk. The table next to us complained about the size of the portions served to them, so it wasn't just me who observed this. There must have been something to their complaint, because the manager gave them all complimentary guacamole salads. The portion size of my side order was really pathetic. The Burrito Cancun included a side of rice. What can be cheaper than rice (or beans)? If the entrée is going to be small, make it up with a generous helping of something cheap. The side of rice with my order would have barely filled a serving spoon. It should have been like a ladle of rice. Still, it's convenient cheap eats, and even edible, so it's hard to complain too loudly. I'm sure in time I'll forget about this and return when I have an irresistible urge for Mexican food and am too lazy to drive to The Fiesta Café in Mechanicsville. read more

Seating was well managed by Servers per health regulations (6 ft apart) from other patrons, all Servers wore mask, all patrons wore mask even the children. Servers were friendly and accomadating. Very fast service and didn't have to wait for a table, the food comes out FAST. We liked the chips and salsa it was so fresh and addictive ! The guacamole however was a little bland in my opinion. I got the vegetables fajitas, there were soooo good. Margaritas are large, strong and overall amazing. There is an expansive menu with great prices. It's tasty and authentic Mexican food! The customer service was okay, the servers and workers just seemed really rushed.
