I came here for a work event for some drinks and appetizers. The first thing I noticed is this restaurant is very polished with a elevated ambiance and nice lighting/furnishings. Also, the staff were very attentive and kind. Our waitress was exceptional. We got to try some vegetable quesadillas, arepas, and elote appetizers in addition to the chips and accoutrement, all of which were good. I tried a couple of their mocktails as well. They were sweet, but really enjoyable. I left very full and happy and would love to come back a second time to try some more of their entrees considering the appetizers are very delicious. read more

Had a quick visit here with my family, & we had such a great experience! We ordered a bunch of drinks, & everything was delicious. The customer service was incredible...the staff was friendly, attentive, & really quick, especially considering the restaurant was pretty busy & packed when we went. I also ordered some chicken tacos, which were delicious as well. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of them! Overall, this is definitely a great spot for getting together with friends or family for drinks. I'd definitely come back again for a full course meal. Can't wait to visit again! read more

Food was terrible, second time in a row. I would not visit this location. Irving, Plano/Frisco and Downtown Dallas are great, this place is not - whatsoever. Fajitas came out, maybe 1/2 the serving of the other restaurants and it was lukewarm - skillet wasn't hot like normal, could pick it up by hand. Pico looked like someone ate out of the bowl first and we got the leftovers, same for rice and beans. Grilled chicken plate was cold centered, didn't eat it and didn't want to fight with the waiter... Hostess and server were rude, both younger kids that didn't want to be there. Waiter said maybe 5-10 words in total, including an awesome "what's up nod" with nothing said to introduce himself followed by "drinks?" Guy was caught up worried about how he looked, never checked on the tables around us. Got served our dinner with no silverware, had to wait 5+ minutes to catch his eye, he was busy talking at the bar with other employees (packed restaurant btw). Finally got our silverware...he was holding all pieces in his hands. That was awesome, no napkins. Ended up walking around and found a table with no one and took that silverware. Overall, this is the second time in a row with a similarly horrible experience - last time they had 2 waiters serving the entire main room and they kept apologizing for the slow service despite seeing the manager in the kitchen on his phone hanging out, multiple cooks standing around. I'd avoid this location, manager didn't care to listen. Go Nextdoor to Ida Claire for great food and service, same chain, but better ran. $80 wasted! read more

I had to pleasure to visit this place recently and overall it was a solid spot. The food and service was all very good. I got the Carne asada taco plate which came with rice the rice I will say was a bit too limey for me but overall good the meat and the tacos was super tender and good and flavorful. The drinks were pretty strong and had a nice presentation overall would stopped me from giving it a five was just the limy rice but aside from that all of our food was great. read more

Checked this restaurant for a girl's brunch! The restaurant is spacious and decorated well. Initially, our server was attentive, starting us off with drinks and answering any questions that we had. We ordered and it seemed after we received our food, they had forgotten us. No silverware with my friend's food so we had to wait quite some time. When wanting to place another drink order, additional wait time. The restaurant did not experience heavy traffic on the Sunday we visited so it was a bit disappointing. Although the server was missing in action, my Mesquite-grilled steak hit the spot. I would definitely go back again to see if service changes. read more

I recently visited Mexican Sugar for brunch and had a pleasant overall experience. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful inside, with a stylish atmosphere and great décor that makes it a lovely spot to relax and enjoy a meal. For brunch, I tried the quesadilla and the steak tacos. The food was not bad, but there were a few things that could have been better. The quesadilla had a bit too much cheese and eggs for my taste, which made it feel a little heavy. The steak tacos had good flavor, but the steak was somewhat chewy. The staff was friendly and welcoming throughout our visit, which I appreciated. Service was a little slow at times, but everyone was nice and attentive when they stopped by our table. Overall, while the food didn't completely wow me, the beautiful atmosphere and kind staff made for an enjoyable brunch experience. I'd be willing to come back and try some other items on the menu. read more

We made dinner reservations for friends visiting from out of town for 7:45 pm! This place was packed for a Monday and we had to wait at least about 30 mins even w a reservation- crazy! I had made it super early in the day. Regardless I could let that slide bc it's about the company and food. We sat in the nice lounge area, we had kids w us and didn't get any kids menu - my friends had to ask several times for waiter to get us. I have to say this may have been the worst service we have received here and it was so unfortunate bc we took friends to eat there, that never come to Dallas. The waiter was just really rude and you could tell he really didn't want to service us. I mean they were busy and he might have had too many tables but he was never around. My son had to go to bar and get straws for us, my husband had to go get a steak knife from somewhere bc our food didn't come w one I ordered the carne asada and I didn't finish it, it was not good today at all. The kids got the wrong plate and had to rush their food out. We had to ask for refills whenever he did come around and we were told to "give me a minute miss" man I'm just letting you know bc I may never see you again he would run out so quickly. I would not want him as a waiter again sorry. He would split check and my friend had to ask manager to spilt for her at that point we were done. My friends ordered chicken fajitas they never got their tortillas I mean I can go on about how bad the service was. Either they need more waiters or give them less tables I don't know where he went. He also said was stubborn about selling me the $150 Wagu steak platter - like dude it's just a Monday and we not that hungry. And w that service no way would I ever want to order that there I'll go to del frisco or Perry's not here. I contemplated even posting this and just moving on but I feel ya need to know. I've gotten bad service here twice now but not all are bad I had a really good waiter one time he was the best but Monday night was for the pits. No way. So if ya go here I say you're about 50/50 going to get good service and that may just be the way it is here but it's a popping place even w reservations you might have to wait. read more

Worth the hype that i have heard! Wait was not long and food came quickly. Our waiter was very attentive and had good recommendations. They were busy but kept up well with everyone around even bigger parties. The rice has a lime kick that is very flavorful. The enchiladas were really good and made even better leftovers the next day. Everything is fresh and you can really tell! Will be recommending and bringing friends. It was a week night and very busy so i do suggest making a reservation. Also parking fills fast. read more

Came by on a coworker's recommendation plus it was close my the hotel I was staying at. The restaurant was nicely decorated and felt really warm. The fresh chip and salsa kept me munching while we waited for the order. Our server was very nice and friendly answered my newbie questions. Ordered the mango aqua fresca, but probably should have ordered the horchata instead. Found out at the end that the horchata is freshly made. Had the skirt steak that was very flavorful and the steak was cooked nicely. Finished the meal with the quatro leche cake (the forth leche component was horchata). That was a perfect dessert to finish the meal with. read more

Dinner last night at Mexican Sugar was one of those evenings that just flows--good food, good company, good energy. I was traveling with my daughter-in-love Cinda, for a varsity girls basketball game (coach mom life adjacent), and this spot turned a road-trip dinner into a full experience. Let's start with the drinks, because they deserve their own moment. Margarita Flight * Machete * Clásico * Hibiscus Make it skinny: Cazadores Blanco, Cointreau, St-Germain, fresh lime Every pour was thoughtful, balanced, and beautifully presented. Honestly? The drinks alone looked like they belonged at a five-star table. Elegant glassware, vibrant color, zero shortcuts. For dinner, Cinda had the Brasas Chicken tacos --roasted chicken layered with salsa roja, queso blanco, chipotle crema, and queso fresco. Flavorful, comforting, and elevated without trying too hard. I had three made-to-order enchiladas with corn tortillas, black beans, and that unforgettable cilantro-lime rice. That rice deserves applause. Light, airy, fresh--almost floating. I've never had rice quite like that, and now I'm ruined for the regular kind. The enchiladas featured roasted chicken with Chihuahua cheese, queso blanco, salsa verde, and salsa roja--rich but balanced, bold without being heavy. Every bite felt intentional. And let me say this clearly: the presentation was stunning. Plates came out looking polished and artful, the kind of detail you expect from fine dining, not just "good Mexican food." Even the drinks were dressed to impress. Service? Impeccable. The little things mattered--doors opened when we arrived, opened again when we left, warm send-offs, genuine hospitality throughout. Friendly, professional, and never forced. The ambiance was lovely--busy but not chaotic, stylish without being loud. You could actually have a conversation, which is underrated these days. And yes, because standards are standards: it was clean. And if it's not clean, I'm not eating there. Period. Perfect for a date night, a girls' night, or a quality dinner while traveling. Bonus points for being reasonably priced, because good food doesn't need to hurt your feelings--or your wallet. Five out of five. No notes. Do yourself a favor and go experience it. This one's worth leaving the house for. read more

We went to Mexican Sugar for happy hour and had such a great experience! They offer $7 drinks and $2 off appetizers during their designated happy hour, which makes it a perfect after-work spot. 3.5/5 First time visiting Mexican Sugar's new Addison location for brunch on an early Sunday morning, after it being recommended; and the host greeting was warm and welcoming -- it definitely got us excited for the experience. The restaurant itself is beautiful; the ambiance and decor really give it a Mexican Tejano feel, which we loved. Unfortunately, the service didn't quite match that first impression. Even with a reservation, we had to wait to be seated, our drinks were forgotten twice, and our food took about 50 minutes to come out. We also noticed tables seated after us being served first, which felt a little off. The food was good, just not a huge wow factor for Mexican food. The salsas aren't as spicy if you're someone who likes heat. However, drinks were great! The hibiscus cocktail, cucumber jalapeño cocktail and mangonada margaritas were really refreshing. 10000/10! Overall, it's probably a great brunch spot for smaller groups of 2-4, but with a family and kids, the ambiance and service may not be the best fit. Hoping to have a better experience next time but will be back with a review then - :)) read more

After my first meal at Mexican Sugar, I can see why this restaurant is so popular. The warm tortilla chips were very good, and while I prefer a spicier salsa, their mild version is still quite good. Oh, man, their pork chop is fantastic - really tender and flavorful with a well balanced chile citrus brine. The cilantro lime rice had a little heat - perhaps some jalapeño - and complemented the sweet pork well. I actually would have like some more rice, but man, that pork was the star! Our server, Gabby, was great. In addition to serving my table on the lovely patio, she was taking care of a party of 18. After a little light rain, the large party wanted to move inside. Despite the huge inconvenience to the staff, Gabby had it all under control and was super attentive. The only disappointment was their classic margarita, which was rather weak... read more

Oh my! Mexican Sugar is not only beautifully designed, it's also absolutely delicious!!! This used to be TGI Fridays, and Mexican Sugar kept the fire kiln in the corner from the old restaurant, nothing else about this space resembles TGI Fridays. My husband and I ordered the chicken fajitas and it's one of the best we have eaten. The chicken was cooked to perfection. Tasty, char grilled flavor, and moist/juicy. And their cilantro rice was truly a treat to eat! Our waiter was amazing. He was informative, helpful, and my water glass was always full. They use real glass for your drink ware, and I appreciate that as I hate drinking from plastic. And for my purse, they have a purse/coat tree they bring to your table. How fun is that! This has just become my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Dallas area! read more

We came here for one of our son's birthday dinner. It's his favorite restaurant and our first time. I was very impressed when I walked in and saw an upscale Mexican experience inside. The service is five star . Our server was spot on all night but never interrupting the dinner experience. We started with the queso and chips which was amazing. Truly a great blend of cheese and spices. I had the salmon and mostly liked it. What turned out to be a common theme was the temperature all of our entrees were served. LUKE WARM. It really made a difference in the taste and dinner for me. Otherwise, that salmon would have been amazing. My wife and son both had the chicken/beef fajitas. Same issue. LUKE WARM. Every restaurant I've been to serves the fajitas on a steaming hot metal plate. It was a metal plate but just barely warm and their dinner was cold within 5 minutes of sitting on the table. I was served and charged for elote that I never ordered. However, it was soooo good! Then really the last act truly surprised me. We mentioned in the online reservation we were celebrating birthday. They brought out a birthday flan with a candle....then charged us. We didn't order it and I've never had a restaurant charge for something like this. Especially a $200 meal with drinks, appetizers and entrees for four. I'm being generous with four but it was that good. Hope tonight was just an off night for room temperature meals. read more

Summary: 5/5 Food: 4.5/5 Ambience: 5/5 Value: 4.5/5 We picked this place because it was close to our hotel the Addison Marriott and had good reviews. It has a nice slightly upscale vibe with modern design. The hostess was friendly and seated us quickly. It was inly a few minutes before our waitress, Gabby, arrived with water, chips and salsa. The chips and salsa were okay. average among Tex-Mex venues. The salsa was on the sweet rather than spicy side. We ordered our staple classic margaritas on the rocks, no-salt. They were okay/average. Then we split an order of beef and chicken fajitas. The dish was outstanding! The beef and chicken were deliciously seasoned and tender, the sides were tasty, and the portions of everything were perfect for our appetites. The Bar Manager, Jordan, stopped to make sure everything was good and chatted with us for a few minutes about the restaurant. Overall, we would recommend this restaurant and would consider returning the next time we are in Addison. read more

Shout out to our server Stevend, he steered us through the menu, kept everything filled and was fun to engage. 10 out of 5 stars. Cool vibe, plenty of parking and we have already said that service was excellent. But what about the food????? Sangria - frozen, very unique but delicious. Espresso Martini - another solid choice Queso - solid choice, but carries some heat. Salsa - served temperature hot, dark, good flavor. Carrots - fantastic flavor, firm but firm tender. Cauliflower - disappointing, lots of cilantro, but very little lime. Brasa Chivken Tacos - flavor was good, but the spice level was maybe a bit much. Pork Chop - OK I think I died and went to heaven because the pork chop was so tender, so flavorful I wanted to eat every single. ORDER THIS for sure.. Great spot, upscale Mexican with some elevated dishes. read more

Took my daughter to Mexican Sugar, One of her favorite places to dine today. And, as always, it was great. First, I'm always so impressed by the ambiance of these restaurants (I've been to the Plano and Addison locations). Next, the food always hits the spot. The fajitas are my go to dish at this restaurant and if you try their carne asada option, you'll soon realize why. The beef is tender and cooked to perfection with excellent seasonings. My daughter absolutely loved the kids beef tacos. She usually always gets a virgin pina colada as well. Today, the drink was poorly executed, with not even a hint of coconut flavor. That pushed the rating down to a 4. Lastly, the service is always strong at this place. If you are looking for a great place for food and ambiance, I'd highly recommend Mexican Sugar. read more

Upscale mexican food. Our waiter was very attentive and did a great job describing the menu and the preparation techniques. He mentioned that all food is made from scratch and based on my experience, I have no reason to doubt it. Everything tasted fresh. Now even though it tasted fresh, I must say that the seasonings seemed to fall just a bit short. For example, I asked for a spicy salsa - can you bring me something that's HOT? I was offered two options, the spicier option was a fruit/habanero salsa. It was so sweet though that it could have passed for a jelly. So mexican food without a spicy component was odd to me. On the flip side, my wife ordered a chicken taco dish that she said was plenty spicy. The dining room was lively and slightly loud. It was strangely dark in the dining room despite being somewhat bright outside. We were relying on the small lamp on our table way too much! I will give this place another try. read more

If I could do a 10 star I would!!! My husband and I were out for a nice night out for Valentines Day! It's our first time going out on night like this in 4 years because we are very busy working parents with a 4 year old at home. We decided to try out Mexican Sugar because it was walking distance from our hotel on the way to improv! Pros: The hostess was very friendly and we knew with it being Valentine's Day we may not get a table before our show at the improv. She was extremely nice and let us that there would be a long wait until we could be seated due to reservations. Completely understandable. She pointed out to us that we were free to sit at the bar which luckily there was a few openings. The bar staff is beyond amazing and is there for their guests 100%! I had the best spicy margarita that I have ever had from previous restaurant and bars!!! The food is delicious and the kitchen staff is amazing at getting quality food to their guest in no time!!! I would highly recommend the Chicken Mole and the Carne Asada tacos. Chicken Mole does have a slight spice to it but delicious! The bartenders are all about being focus on their guest and engaging in making sure you enjoy your time. We even returned back hoping to sit at the bar again to try their Margarita flight. All three were well made with high quality ingredients and key details with flavored ice on one of them. The bartender checked on how we're liking the flight and made a suggestion to try one of them with a tajin rim. She was right! It elevated the taste of the drink that I can't wait to come back to have it again!! During our return we ordered the Queso Blanco and it really hit the spot for a late night snack!! Chips and the salsa is so good! I wish I would've ordered some to take home because the salsa is one of the best I have ever had!! We can't wait to return again hopefully sometime soon when we have a babysitter again!!! Cons: absolutely none!!!!!! Wish there was a location near my home but would like the same bartenders! Ladies thank you for an awesome Valentine's Day experience!!! read more

We went here for dinner on a Saturday evening. Let me start by saying that the interior is gorgeous. It is one of the most attractive restaurants I have been to in a very long time. Actually, it is beyond attractive, it is beautiful. The restaurant is modern upscale but also casual. It is laid out intelligently. The bar is huge and centrally located, an attraction to the eyes. The restaurant is large but feels intimate and cozy. To me, this is one of the best features of the restaurant. The other thing that stood out was the innovative menu. There are the usual enchiladas, tacos, fajitas, etc etc that you expect in a Mexican restaurant. But there are also some gems that you don't see that often, We started with the Arepas as an appetizer. Arepas are usually a hand held sandwich, a round roll with fillings stuffed inside. At Mexican Sugar, they were served as four small round discs with brisket, Cole slaw, and a Fresno pepper on top. At $16 they were not cheap, but the flavor was very good and they were perfect as an appetizer that did not fill you up for the main course. Another item that you don't see often that we ordered was the elote street corn. It was good. The kid had guacamole and liked it although it may have been a bit too upscale for her palate. The wife and I split the carne asada fajitas. The portion is not large but the meat was seasoned perfectly and was, for the most part, very tender. They serve it medium rare which is a good choice and I suggest going with that. Unfortunately, the one piece that the wife in her fajita was either fatty or gristle and she had trouble chewing it. she did not enjoy it and I had to hear about all the way home. The entree comes with three tortillas which is just about right for the portion of meat. There is an upcharge for more tortillas. My main criticism, aside from the chewy piece of meat for the wife, concerned the drinks. I like my margarita straight up, which means it is shaken and served with no ice. At Mesero, which is the direct competitor of Mexican Sugar, they do it right and give you a full glass. At Mexican Sugar, I got half a glass. I did not even take a picture because it was embarrassing. I understand the thinking: this is the volume of liquid we would serve with ice, so this is the volume of liquid we serve with no ice. Frankly, the visual effect screams pettiness and cheapness. We are talking about adding maybe 1 oz of more liquid. I would fix that problem pronto. For my second, I asked for a Mexican marine to fix the half glass problem. It was not on the menu but they made it anyway. The problem was an incredibly small glass with no discernible tequila. It was a glass of juice with olives. If there was tequila, it could not have been more than a quarter shot since the glass was so small. I would not order that again, it's a waste of money. The wife had the same problem. She ordered some kind of non-alcoholic fruity drink on the menu with no ice and received half a glass. Service was very good. Our waitress, I did not get her name and don't have a receipt to refer to, was very accommodating and helpful. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience. The interior is a reason to visit this restaurant. The food was generally good although the wife would not let me order the carne asada again. Service was great. But the drink situation has to be corrected. read more

Mexican Sugar did NOT disappoint! I ordered the striped bass, Classico margarita (frozen), and queso blanco. My date ordered fajitas, hibiscus margarita (on the rocks). We got chips and salsa that was really good with a lil kick to it. The queso blanco did not visually look like queso blanco and it def didn't taste too much like it but the queso was quite good, if not super thick. I'd water it down a little, the consistency was almost too thick for the chips. The seabass was SOOO freakin good ! We had a few different servers help us before our permanent server. Our second server told me she typically has the striped bass with cilantro lime rice and she was so real for that because the rice was perfect with the bass. It originally came with heart of palm salad and i substituted it with the rice. The Classico margarita was so good, i ordered two and two is all you need to get buzzed fr. The drinks themselves were delicious, mixed well and had a good amount of alcohol in it. My date got the steak fajitas and i tried some of it, it was really delicious as well. Easy to eat, not too tough. Whole meal was 10/10. The ambiance is one great for dates (couple or friends/otherwise) , great for groups, and easy to hear the other person talking. I'd come here again ! read more

It's very disappointing whenever you come to get a drink at the bar and get greeted with such a bitchy mood. Like no hi or anything. We went last night which was a Friday night to go grab a drink at the bar our favorite drink which is la catrina. Had been craving it for a while with my partner. It had been so long since we last went. Went and sat down nobody greeted us. Finally the blonde lady came to bring us menus but in a bitchy mood like she was mad we walked in. After then nobody came up to ask what we wanted to drink. 3 guys cleaning up the bar plus the blonde lady that was there and sadly she also looked like a manager or something. l have worked at restaurants before and man I was always happy to receive a table that would come in whenever we were an hour away from closing because you just never know. We were the ones who called the guy to come grab our drink order. After, not once came up to ask if we'd like to grab another one. So disappointing because my partner and I have a 2 year old and a 2 month old who were at my parents so we could have a date night out. We were having such a good time and Mexican sugar ended up ruining our mood. We left and that tip was $4 could've been more but definitely didn't feel welcomed. read more
