A-OK. When I came here they were very busy. They do offer takeout and apparently you can call in orders too, but it was kind of unclear. The front of the restaurant also seemed a little hectic. This is our favorite place to eat ever!! We travel all the way from New Jersey for the delicious, authentic Mexican food, amazing margaritas, friendly staff and supreme service! Very kid friendly too! They go above and beyond! We have never had a bad meal here and travel over the bridge a few times a month to visit! It's so worth it! Tonight we met the owner who is nice as could be and was so appreciate of us coming so often to dine in his restaurant. My husband mentioned casually it was my birthday and the owner and staff surprised me with a sombrero, A "Happy Birthday" sung by himself and the staff, and complimentary delicious dessert!! Very nice restaurant. Stepped in on a Sunday for lunch and our waitress, Kylie, seated us immediately. Kylie was top notch at her job: drink refills, chip refills, entree service. She was excellent. I had 3 soft tacos/rice and all were seasoned just right. Hubby had a cheeseburger/fries since he's not a mexican food fan and he said it was very tasty. Next time I need to leave room for dessert. First to review? Golly. This place is popular enough, but not on the Yelp radar? Sure is packed around happy hour. Well, there's nothing spectacular here, but this is our convenient go-to Mexican joint, about three miles from the house. The food is decent, the place is clean, and the tequila menu is abundant, with good-sized shots. I've had the fajitas, chimichangas and flautas, and found them reasonably satisfying when hungry enough. There are enough big-screen TVs around to catch the game if you're in the bar-half of the restaurant, and allegedly there is live music on Saturday nights, except of course for the Saturday we went quite recently for chips&salsa and drinks, after a Malaysian dinner elsewhere (see a previous review of mine). If you want something tastier, try my local Indian place a few hundred feet away, India Grille. read more

Good food, excellent service, strong drinks and an unbeatable happy hour. What more do you want???? We stumbled into Mexican Post one Thursday night and was pleasantly surprised. What stood out most was the homely friendly atmosphere. It was like your local Cheers, only at a Mexican joint. The bartenders seem to know everyone and they are extra friendly. I had a margarita (which was super strong, yeahhh more bang for the buck!) and tacos and tostadas. Both were very good, the tostada shell is freshly made every day and meat was of good quality. Unfortunately, we had missed HH but they offer 1/2 off appetizers and tons of beer, margarita and food specials. This seems to be the neighborhood hotspot! See you there! read more

No offense to those of you that live out here but this is NOT Mexican food, I should have known the minute I walked in and saw that they called a "California Burrito" a burrito with chili, that this was not the place to eat. For those reading my review a California burrito is a carne asada burrito with French fries inside (I live In California btw born and raised and Mexican American ) all the food here was awfully dry and the salsa and guacamole tasted like it came from the grocery store. I should have known better though when I went to a "Mexican" restaurant on a whim at what normally would be breakfast/brunch time and they didn't have any Mexican breakfast items which most west coast Mexican restaurants do. I admit, I've only had real Mexican less then 5 times in my house, but as for Americanized Mexican, this place is alright. Went here for dinner on a Friday night. The parking lot was packed but we had no trouble getting seated at a table right away. I'm thinking there was a large happy hour crowd. Appetizer - the Minichanga (Crab meat and baby shrimp stuffed in a flour tortilla, lightly fried, and served with chipotle sauce.) I was really disappointed with this, wouldn't order it again. I'm thinking the whole seafood meets chipotle sauce didn't sit right with my taste buds. For my entree I got the combo el numero uno with #5 Chile Relleno & (Chicken) Taco . I enjoy their chile relleno and the taco was pretty tasty. It comes with refried beans and mexican rice, which seems to be standard "mexican side dishes". Very filling. Our server was nice, kept our drinks refreshed and gave us a lot of salsa and chips as we were devouring them. This place was horrible. I ordered a couple appetizers they can out as meals. I ordered fajitas steak and shrimp the steak medium rare. It came out steak and chicken the steak over well done like shoe leather the chicken tasted like it was leftover for several days on the verge of going bad. The appetizers were horrible. The waitress noticed we didn't eat any of it and took off the fajitas. The bill still was 53 bucks. There is no excuse for this type meal. I would not recommend going to this place unless they have a miracle and puts someone in the kitchen who can actually cook. read more

This place! The best Mexican food I have had in years. We went, a group of us for Mother's day, and had great food and attentive service from Dan. The Margarita's are delicious and they have every right to brag. The appetizers were so good we would have been happy with just them. Tequila poppers, wings, Quesadilla, and their homemade salsa and chips which we were fighting over. Lunch arrived with Chile Verde, tacos, Chimichangas, shrimp Fajitas, and everyone cleaned their plates. After we all agreed we could eat no more...dessert came... banana cheesecake wrapped in tortillas and deepfried served warm with ice cream, whipped cream and Carmel. Yasssss. As I said the service was fantastic, we never wanted for a thing. The price was very good too. The average price for app was around $8 and entrees fan around $13 the 2 pitchers of Margaritas killed us though since we got a top shelf tequila...that was $80 so perhaps take that into consideration. We can not wait to go back ( minus a pitcher of Margaritas) and a highly recommend. Btw this is a kid friendly establishment. read more

This was our second time at Mexican Post. The last time we thought it was just ok, so we hadn't been back in a while. Tonight: more of the same. Service was bad: the waiter yawned through his introduction and the drink service was slow. Drinks: Awful. Both Mojito and Margarita were heavy on the alcohol and barely drinkable. Food: Ok. Guac was good, but the nachos were WAY to salty. Overall, the entrees had flavor but the meats themselves were very bland. Very friendly staff. Bartenders are guick to take your order and knowledgeable of the menu. We always get the seafood nachos, which are extremely cheesy, have lots of toppings and never disappoint. The house margarita is the best around too. Patrons are friendly and you can run into people who have been going there for 20 years. Not many places where that happens anymore. This restaurant is excellent in so many ways. From the waiters and waitresses (Esp David and Sharon) to the manager Nick, these people are the best of the best. Took my autistic young friend there and manager came over and explained that he would turn the music down (and he did as autistic people are sometimes bothered by loud music) and he gave her free drinks and a free dessert on the house. He explained he did a lot of work with autistic kids. So kind and nice, I will not forget them, how kind they were to me and my friend. David and Sharon are the best. Get your order right the first time and keep the drinks coming. They are awesome, both of them and I'm so glad I got to meet the manager, Nick, he is a doll! We've always enjoyed our meals from the Mexican Post, but our last visit on 27 June will be our last for a long time. We ordered takeout for 6 p.m. pickup and arrived about 5 minutes early. I was told our food would be out in a couple minutes and paid the bill. After waiting 15 minutes, I asked for the status of our order and was again assured it would be ready in a couple minutes. I told the hostess I would wait in the car (parked right outside the door) and asked if she would please deliver it to me. At that point, I wasn't only annoyed because of the delay but also because the social distancing on the restaurant side seemed sketchy at best. One father was walking in and out of the restaurant on his phone while his two young children ran in and out as well. None of them were wearing masks. After 10 more minutes in the car, I went back in to check on the status and was told our food had just come up. I grabbed it and left. When we got home, our order wasn't only wrong but incomplete. One dinner item was chicken instead of beef, and the extra chips and guacamole we ordered was missing, as well as the regular guacamole and sour cream that came with the meals. Twenty-five minutes late with no apologies offered and the order was wrong. We couldn't decide if the order didn't go in until we arrived or if it was left to sit and was overlooked. It certainly wasn't checked because the paper order with the bill was accurate, but the contents weren't. We'll be looking for our Mexican fix from other sources. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE followed by an ignorant phone call from the "Manager/Owner". I had been to this location a few times. So when me and 12 of my friends wanted to get together for a night of laughs and some dinner we made a reservation at the Mexican post in Wilmington. The reservation was made in mid February for mid March. I called every week to confirm this reservation. The week before I called 3 times to make sure they would be ready for us. Again there were 14 of us. I was assured everything was ok they would have it ready. They didn't have anything ready. We were left standing waiting, the employees were ALL RUDE about it. We rudely being moving around because we were in the way. When I asked to speak to a manager I was told there was no one there. Finally about 6:30 we were seated. Then we had rushed service. We were charged for sour cream. Then when we went to pay the bill they tried to charge us $20.00 more than what was listed on the check. It was ridiculous. We remained polite so that we could enjoy our evening and hanging out together. But all of us said the same thing. I will never go back. When I called today they said there was no one there again. The whole experience was horrible. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I called today to speak with a manager, there is not one there. I finally get a call back from "Tony", who informs me he is half owner and began to justify being rude. I am not going to be treated that way. So I told him I would not yelp and google the way I was treated and hung up. What a horrible experience! read more

Mexican Post is a less than decent restaurant across from the Brandywine Town Center on Naamans Rd in Wilmington, De. The location is great, the wait times (unless its Fri and Sat nights) are pretty much non-existent, and the margarita's are excellent. The food is another story. I think its mainly bland Mexican fare, with little or no spice to it at all. The fajatas are ok, but the chicken was dry and uneventful and the veggies were pretty greasy. The refried beans are so-so, but again, its pretty hard to make a mess of refried beans. Overall, I think this is a restaurant in need of a facelift. They used to be good 4 or 5 years ago, but overall I think this place has really taken a lazy path since they know they are in the middle of an area that brings a ton of foot traffic their way (Regal Cinemas, Target, nearby shopping malls) and have forgotten about real quality food. read more

This is as generic as it gets without actually being a chain store. Service was ok. The chips were good, the salsa just ok. The Nachos grande with chili con carne were pretty bland, with cheap tasteless cheese. The chimichanga with pork and tomatillo sauce was banal with nothing special about it. Came in with a group of friends on a Sunday night and was very impressed with this restaurant. There was a decent sized bar if you just wanted to grab drinks with a solid beer/wine menu. We decided to get margaritas for the table and they were very tasty but strong as well. Food was amazing and the staff was friendly. We split many items off the menu but by far my favorites were the camarones acapulco (shrimp wrapped in bacon) for appetizers, pollo a la mexicana (grilled chicken) for entrees, and the bunuelos (basically churros but better) for dessert. A pretty average tortilla chip for a pretty average salsa. -Salsa (4/10): Again, pretty average. And too sweet. If you like really mild salsa, you might like this more than I did. -Cheese Sauce (8/10): Nice flavor. Has a good kick, unlike the salsa... Just hot enough and not overwhelming. -Enchiladas Suizas (8/10): Again, nice. Reminded me of El Gran Rodeo's enchiladas. However, chicken was a little dry and olives on top are unnecessary, and just take away from the dish. -Rice (6/10): Average. I liked it, but nothing sets it apart... not that it has to be set apart from anything, it's rice. -Fried Beans (8.5/10): Very good. This was a nice addition to the enchiladas. A little salty but it doesn't detract anything. -Fried Ice Cream (9/10): Fantastic. Perfectly sized and really delicious when paired with the honey, which has a nice contrasting texture. Highly recommend this. -Banana Chango (9/10): The warmth of this was nice when juxtaposed with the fried ice cream. Delicious, soft with a crumbly outside and definitely worth getting. SERVICE (9.75/10): -Helpfulness (10/10): Our waiter (who looks like Macklemore... striking resemblance) offered great suggestions, and helped us order for the menu from the first time -Knowledge (10/10): He knew the menu inside out, shared his favorite dishes and his not-so-favorite dishes. -Efficiency (9/10): Very attentive and food was delivered promptly. -Kindness (10/10): Our waiter was very friendly and personable. Not so sure about the other waiters and waitresses, though. ATMOSPHERE (4/10): This was one negative aspect of the Mexican Post. The restaurant's decor was cheap and appeared to be outdated. If they were going for a makeshift look, they succeeded; but it's not polished makeshift, if you know what I mean. There are cheesy little flags and cutouts everywhere. Nevertheless, it is clean. My dad's been a regular for years and his stories of their hospitality are exactly what I experienced when I came to visit from Southern California.
