My wife and I go here at least 3 times a month. I usually have the steak torta or the one of each taco,steak,shrimp and fish. Their incredibly flavorful and fresh!! They always give super addicting fresh chips and an awesome salsa dip with each meal. You can also choose their fresh and pick from their fixings bar along with homemade hot sauces. They serve soft drinks, but no alcohol. But they let you BYOB, so if you forgot your preferred alcoholic beverage at home. There is a 7-11 right next door. So after we order our food, I go next door quick and pick up a nice cold beer to enjoy with my fresh super tasty Mexican Food. Super nice family owners and a very nice neighborhood following!! Live near here, never would have noticed but I pulled in parking lot and saw there were several little stores in a sideways strip wall against Route 112.. This is definitely not a 4 or 5 star Mexican place. I had a fish taco (breaded, not grilled) and a chicken taco. They were mediocre. Awesome! After asking a Colombian restaurant owner where he goes for "South of the Border Cuisine" as he put it, we discovered this place. The Tortas and Red Snapper Fish Tacos are awesome! Moved back to NY after living in CA where the Mexican food is very good. I've also been to Mexico many times. This place is the most authentic & best I've found in this area. And what a bargain! The only thing I would prefer is if they had refried beans instead of whole pinto or black beans. But the Spanish rice & everything else I've tried is spot on. I moved to this area from Southern California almost ten years ago. While most of the food in NYC/LI is outstanding I always found Mexican food offerings wanting. I missed the simple little taco stands back home that made small corn tortilla tacos with fresh ingredients that were just perfect. Well I miss them no more after finding Mexican Grill 2000. They make perfect small corn tacos with super fresh ingredients and the perfect amount of seasoning. Their salsa bar rounds out the flavors. Well, after reading many 5 star reviews about this place, I went way out of my way to try it when I was moderately hungry because when im starving I like anything and I wanted to be able to give this a real fair shake. First of all this place is well worn and in need of a facelift. Just a cleaning and a coat of paint would do it justice, but that might be the thing that adds to its charm. Its as if you were walking down a street in a small mexican town and decided to grab a bite to eat in between searching for bargain souvenirs. For my first visit I decided to get the basic steak burrito. My friend went for variety in the form of a mexican pizza, a fish taco, and a steak taco. The gentleman who took our order delivered the finished product to the table and we took samples of all the condiments. The burrito looked like any ordinary burrito until I took a bite. OMG, it was not what I expected. all I can say is that the flavors didnt bash you in the palate but they were more subtle. the texture of the rice was delightful, not the starchy sticky kind that I am used to. the steak was tender not chewy. It didnt taste like yesterdays leftover chopped up and repurposed. When I added their hot sauce it took it to another level. it was just the right amount of heat. I believe it was habanero if my palate serves my right. Next was the tacos. The fish was breaded and fried but you dont taste the oil. it was delicious and flakey and fresh not dry and fishy as in other places. The sauce on it was perfection also, sort of like a runny tartar that got on your fingers and tasted great licking it off of them. To top off the meal we had the pizza.The only problem was the size of it. I would gladly pay way more for a larger version. it was fantasic. The crust was airy and light , sort of pastry like, crispy but mouth-melting, not over powered with cheese and toppings. All-in-all I have to rate this in comparison to the other local small take out eat in mexican shops such as salsa salsa and avocados and magic taco, its by far the best. Not for the fact that its so different and using exotic ingredients like magic taco does, or salsa salsa for its specials or avocados for its portions, but this is the best because of its authenticism freshness and lightness. I ate the same amount but didnt feel stuffed which is attributed to the overall lightness of what is a traditionally heavy food. Now if they can only make it pretty! read more
