Mex and Co is located in an amazing spot across from Manley Beach. Indeed, the outdoor dining gives everyone an excellent view of the water, perfect for people watching, and ideal when you've been out in the sun a bit too long. Unfortunately, the Mexican food doesn't deliver the same excellence. Our burrito and chicken enchiladas lacked seasoning. Our guacamole needed more acid and was missing jalapeños. Our tortilla chips were out of a bag, which is surprisingly when it's so easy to make fresh tortilla chips if you have a deep fryer (which they most certainly used for their fish and chips menu). All of our food would have been more suited for a cruise ship than Sydney's discerning foodies. On a good note, service was excellent, friendly, and attentive...for this and the location, I give them three stars. read more

Being from California where the Mexican food is authentic and plentiful, I have to say this place is pretty decent. I shared the fajita plate with my cousin - prawns and kangaroo - Mexican food, Aussie style! It was really good! They give you sour cream, guac and pico de gallo. The guacamole was nice and had a kick to it. My other cousin had the fish tacos and raved about it. Overall a pretty good place for Mexican in Sydney. read more

Yes! Love Mex & Co.... I have been very "judgy" when it comes to Mexican or what's really considered "tex mex" since moving to Sydney. I can't however judge the food bad here. It's legit! The Baja fish and deep fried prawns are $7 each. Served on a handmade tortilla, a bed of crunchy coleslaw, some hot sauce, chipotle mayo and topped with real pico de gallo. Creamy, crunchy, spicy with some tang from lime juice. Really delicious stuff. You can get $5 tacos during happy hour between 3-6. Great views of the water and has an open storefront! Mexican food is a tough gig in the land down under. However, I must tip my sombrero to Mex & Co for stepping up to the challenge. I have to say after trying a couple other places, Mex & Co wins hands down. Prime location facing the ocean, Mex & Co offers the closest thing to what I would truly consider good Mexican. The prices we gauging...lunch for 2 w 1 cocktail each ...about $60 -$9 for a handful of chips and guacamole, but at least it was good gaucamole -$6/tacos, (2 shrimp/ 2 fish) and street style/size tacos at that, but again the quality was good and my tortilla didn't fall apart. The service was friendly and sitting on the beach was very nice. We had the kangaroo and crocodile fajitas which were OK flavorwise, but of course fit the bill for eating (to us) exotic food. The portion was a bit on the skimpy side, but the setups (cheese, guacamole, etc.) were good - just four tortillas is a bit parsimonious. The kid's nachos were solid, and a solo fish taco was good too. I had the house margarita and it was just fine. And, for those native Texans like us: there's no free chips and salsa. Sitting on the balcony over looking Manley beach, no better way to enjoy fresh Mexican food! The restaurant delivers on food, drink & surroundings. The menu is packed full of Mexican goodies, Tacos, burritos, fajitas & many more. My husband had an assortment of tacos, he chose the soft taco all priced at $7 each. They arrived topped with filling & fresh ingredients, the pulled beef was especially delicious. I had the Pollo tostadas. Crispy tacos topped with pulled grilled chicken, salsa & sour cream. They were warm & spicy & the taco fresh & crisp. 3 in a portion for $19. For dessert we had churros with chocolate dipping sauce, there were 3 in a portion & plenty of sauce. Food was served hot & quickly, the staff were efficient & friendly without being over fussy. Would recommend a visit. read more

Mexican food is nowadays not really hard to find, its more or less wherever you go. But good Mexican food are yet few to master. If you go here you will spend a couple of bucks more than other places around, but at the end of the day its probably worth it. They have a pretty classic Mex menu with all the common dishes you would expect. I had the Chicken nachos which was served in a way i have never experienced before. It came very handy in a hot pan, which kept it warm while indulging it. Guac on top didnt disappoint and the size of it was just about right for lunch. At the time, it wasnt much folks around so cant really judge their serving skills, but our food was served fast with no further issues. So if you arent cheap and up for Mexican food, I would def. recommend this place to grab a lunch while visiting Manly for a day. read more

It does not give me joy to give this restaurant such a low rating. Wait. Yes, yes it does! Understand that this review is not at about the food, but about the service. There were four of us -- all adults -- all professionals. We had originally ordered drinks and then realized we might as well stay because we were hungry. One of the adults wanted food from the next eatery over. Since we were sitting outside, in very informal wooden benches, and since he was a paying customer, we did not think it was an issue. Incorrect assessment. Though we purchased more than $80 worth of food and drinks our waitress treated us with sheer contempt. It was very clear that she was speaking to other staff members about us -- when we would look around we could very easily see them glaring at us. I pulled the waitress aside and informed her of our dissatisfaction. She stated it was against policy to bring food from other restaurants to their table. While that may be the case, it had already occurred and we were being civil patrons, so allow us the courtesy of enjoying our food together. Even after my discussion, other staff members came over to our table and tried to remove out plates -- while we were still eating -- several times! (Incidentally, seasoned retailers are taught never to say the "p" word: policy. Policy indicates that a shop has placed its perceived conveniences over the needs of the customer. And while it is naturally necessary to have guidelines and processes to run a profitable business, reasonable requests -- regardless of how "outside the box" they are -- should be considered, for the mere fact that a happy customer will most likely become a regular, repeat customer.) I digress... Finally, we asked to speak to the manager. He apologized, but did not offer to compensate us for our experience, adding insult to injury. Neither did he offer to waive the extra $10 service charge -- because it we were there on the weekend. (None of us saw such a fee indicated on the menu.) We must have eaten at more than 40 restaurants during our stay in Sydney. This was the only one that left a very bad taste in our mouth. I went to Mex & Co. last weekend and was SO impressed. The environment is super cool, the staff was diverse and really friendly, and the food was really tasty. Let me just say that I am used to Mexican food in America and after a year in Aus. I have yet to find any decent Mexican restaurants UNTIL I found this place! The margaritas are really good. Small, but good. I had the blood orange, while my friend had the watermelon. They were both delicious. Next time I will definitely be trying the Espresso martini! As far as portions go, they are quite small as well, but this might be because I'm used to larger portions in America. I ordered the burrito with extra chicken. It was a good size and I was really glad I ordered the extra chicken, because had I not, it probably wouldn't have filled me up. My only wish was that it had came with rice and beans, like more authentic dishes in America. My friend had the chicken nachos, which were were really good, but again, on the small side. My husband and I are big fans of Mexican food but it is very hard to find authentic good Mexican food on the northern beaches...well not any more. We had the nachos to share as a started and I have to say it is the best nachos we have ever had. We then had the tacos, 2 each and they were so delicious, the pork belly one is a must try! They don't add a lot of spice to the food during the prep but supply a bottle of hot sauce on the table. For the two of us the cost was around $80 but we also had a bottle of wine with dinner so it is a bit on the expensive side but you do pay for the view. If you go the right night and early enough you can sit upstairs overlooking the beach which is bliss. The staff were attentive and the food came out quick which was a bonus. read more

Came here for lunch with my wife today. It is a nice beach front restaurant with tasty food. We ordered combo fajitas (chicken and kangaroo). They definitely flavor their meat with amazing spices. I especially loved the tender taste of the kangaroo. My only wish that prices would be a bit more reasonable but that's typical of Australia. read more

Mexican food is my favorite, and this place is one of the best Mexican meals I've had in the Sydney area (note, I have a California-influenced Mexican bias). My mother and I shared the beef and chicken fajitas combo, and we both loved it (AND she's a pickier eater than me!). We also had a couple of the baja fish tacos and yes, they were delicious and I'll definitely be coming back for more of those. Plus, the location near Manly beach can't be beat. This place looked really good. And I will say that my food was pretty tasty. I got a couple of tacos and the corn on the cob with the watermelon marg. Everything was flavorful and yummy. The reason I'm giving them 1 star is because of my boyfriend's experience. Sadly he found a giant piece of plastic in his veggie burrito. We alerted the staff in a friendly manner, and our server mumbled something (maybe an apology?) and walked away. I can forgive something if there is a solution offered. Unfortunately nothing was done for us- no new food, no discount, nothing. That was the last we heard about the issue- nothing from the manager or any other sort of apology. Disappointing for someone who has worked in the service industry for 10 years. :( read more

The food is great here the margaritas are up to scratch, the staff are friendly but the service needs to be improved on, takes forever to get service, the wait staff seem to just disappear at times. The kitchen was really messy when I walked passed which isn't a big deal but not good for presentation. Will be back for more delicious food!! read more

Really great Mexican food but I did find it a little pricey compared to the other Mexican places in the area. It goes get really busy sometimes and can be a little cramped. Staff weren't very attentive when I was there but they were still lovely when we did see them. Really good drinks menu as well. read more

Chicken burrito was pretty good. Tecate with salt added was great but the second one didn't have it. Overall was pretty good beach food.

Tip change your staff to people who want to be there and have an idea about the menu Then go to Mexico or anywhere in America and get schooled on what Mexican food and service is like failing that go to any other Mexican restaurant in manly and order So obviously I think the staff here are bad and the meals are worse The must have high rent because the meals cost to much read more

I had heard Mexican food was pretty pitiful down under, but I was thoroughly impressed and delighted to find this gem in Manly Beach. The beer selection included Negra Modelo and Bohemia, two of my favorites. The taco shells are made from scratch - soo good. Try the pork belly. At first we were offered a dark table with no lights, we politely asked if we could wait for another table to become available and the were fairly hesitant and tried to convince us to stay at the dark table. Eventually we moved tables & then ordered one beef nachos & two chicken nachos. Both chicken nachos came out cold & we politely informed the waiter. The food was rudely taken away to be replaced, however the replacement nachos was also cold. Unlikely to return, however the food tasted decently. read more
