GYG real authentic style Mexican. The spicy chicken enchiladas are the bomb! Another one of my favourite is the chicken burrito bowl.

I had chips and salsa, a staple on American tables at Mexican restaurants and I got English-Aussie chips (French fries). Tomatio "salsa" was OK. They had fresh jalapeños. They did seat us under a staircase and it was annoying hearing the heavy footsteps stomping up and down throughout dinner service. The food was very good to stellar! As others have mentioned, the Tacos are King here. Tartare Tacos are amazing, and we loved the Salmon Civiche and the carnitas tacos, as well. Flathead Civiche was delicious, Brussels Sprouts were super tasty, and we also enjoyed the twice cooked Pork Belly. Not so good was the Pato Ahumado. The mole was really tasty but not enough, and the breast was really tough and fatty, plus no proper cutlery provided. Really disappointing, as we couldn't eat or enjoy it and it was like we just threw $72 away. While I did appreciate their coursing, we did wait for long periods between. Cocktails were good, as was a glass of wine, but pours are very light. Recommended, for sure. Avoid the duck.

I went here with a friend who's partner is from Colombia as he was keen to show what the food is like. I had the Baneja Paisa which is Rice, Beans, Chorizo, Pork, Avocado and a fried egg. Basic and hearty, it's all your essential food groups in one big pile on a plate. Sobrebarrigo comes with two style options. Stewed in coconut sauce or fried with hoago (onion and tomato) sauce. Mexcian style fare looked great with some pretty huge Burritos being brought to tables and they also do Pizza. I tried the soursop or guanabana drink, which is apparently known for it's medicinal properties.. I suspect the high fiber in this is considered medicinal after eating so much meat! I came here for the Colombian food because I'd never really tried it, so I cant really attest to the flavour of their mexican eats or their pizza, but it is well worth the trek out to Rockdale to give it a try. To my mind it brings some flair to an otherwise bleak stretch of shops.

Back then soft shell tacos were a novelty (a completely different experience to the hard Old El Paso tacos we were all fed as Mexican growing up) and they had the most amazing prawn filling. The prawns were in a cumin spice rub and came with a squeeze of lime. This filling is no longer on the menu and my disappointment at this is everlasting. The Crows Nest branch of the tacqueria chain has a really nice atmosphere with a wide open and airy shop front, and an outdoor seating area with brightly coloured flags. The burritos are jam-packed with yummy goodness and the veggie option is actually quite substantial, consisting of sautéed mushrooms, onions. They are also licensed, so you can enjoy a nice cold corona to help wash down the burrito-y goodness. However as per usual with me it comes down to the simple things, which in this case is the fact that there is an array of condiments to accompany your meal, including three types of Tabasco sauce... in large pump containers. There is your normal run of the mill original Tabasco, then there is the extra hot Habanero Tabasco, but for me it all comes down to the crème de la crème of Tabasco sauces; Chipotle Tabasco. It basically tastes like someone has added smokey bbq sauce to Tabasco... And it is GOOD!

The food merged in my mouth in a tasteful frenzy. Honestly, did not take a sneaky pic though as the presentation was not there. The corn chips were clearly fresh and that made a big difference. Really yum and the dip was perfect to match. Next up was grilled corn with a creamy butter coriander sauce. This was nothing special. Was more looking for something a little bit spicer considering its a Mexican. The ancient grain salad was served. This salad contained quinoa, broccoli, pumpkin, chia and pomegranate seeds with a tequila sauce. This was a great choice on the menu and definitely would choose this one again. For the mains we selected Beef enchiladas and Cod. The beef enchiladas was pretty good but not exceptional and was a little light in the meat department. The cod was not what you would traditionally expect from a Mexican so figured it was a good choice to go with. It turned out to be a stellar one. The cod was beautiful and had a nice smoky sauce to go with it. Amazingly there was room for dessert and decided to opt for the Chilli Brownie. The brownie was made with dark chocolate and didn't have that overly heavy after feeling that you get from some desserts. Just didn't really notice the chilli in it though but still nice. The experience was really good in this place. The atmosphere was very relaxed and would certainly come back again.
