Located in the heart of Bellflower, this is my comic book store. It is truly a real gem. While not the biggest store, they had a great selection of mainstream and most importantly indie comics. Whatever they don't have on hand they can always order it for you. They also have a pretty good selection of back issues. There is also a large selection of trade paperbacks. In addition to comics, they have a wide variety of t-shirts, posters, cards, and action figures. On display are several high end figures/statues from Sideshow Collectibles. Metropolis is also able to order basically anything from Sideshow. Like any store, the quality and quantity of product offered is important. But just as important, and probably more important, is the customer service. And that's where Metropolis really shines. Their employees and owner are friendly and helpful. They are very knowledgeable and can help you with any and all needs. They really care and it shows. I would highly recommend this place with all your comic book and collectibles related needs. Great place!!! I have been coming here for about 9-7 months now and it's my go to place. The staff is very friendly to my girlfriend and me. They really try to interact with there customers give great recommendations on what you are currently reading. I recently got into reading comics about less then a year ago and I have to say this is the best shop I've stepped foot in. Other places are just like library's old and dull. My favorite comic book store. A year ago I decided to get back into collecting comics, and I promised myself I wouldn't go crazy like 20 yrs ago, when I was collecting multiple titles from DC and Marvel. Guess what, walking into the store and with the friendly and helpful customer service, I ended up signing up for the membership, a pull list and I have my nieces collecting too. I enjoy coming every Saturday with my niece. She helps me not go crazy and buy. LOL I always get a friendly greeting, the staff is outstanding. I have been coming here for about 2 years, and the place keeps getting better! They have a HUGE selection of new weekly comics, and amazing stock of toys, graphic novels, shirts, posters, and a really cool staff that knows their comics. They take part in free comic book day every May (my kids love it too!), and they get awesome artists, writers and cosplay models to appear. They give a very generous discount if you become a member to their store for a year. And the staff are quite helpful and funny when you visit their store. So I went there yesterday and I was told I wasn't able to play at their game day, because I was banned. From which I had no knowledge of or even try contact to me to let me know that I'm banned. I feel like it's a personal vendetta against me from the tournament operator because he doesn't like me. Which I had past encounter with in another store. So the accusation was that I cheated in one of their events 6 months ago. I followed all of their protocols like filling out a decklist, I was the only one deck checked in the entire event, and I was willing for them to look through all of my personal belongings. I was able to finish the event getting first of course. When the next week came after the event I heard that I was banned from the store from another person that doesn't even go to that store. As a player and customer I feel like I'm being attacked and my reputation is being tarnished for something I didn't do. It has not been a good experience and I'm pretty upset because I have try to be nice and let things go but this is too much. read more

If there was an option for 0 stars, that is exactly what I would leave. I submitted a best offer on their website for one of their comics. The most they would do was $2 off - wow - why even allow a best offer at that point? The person on the other end of the email wouldn't even tell me how much shipping would be; I asked twice and then went to their website to determine how much it would be. I still ordered the comic and 2 weeks later it hasn't even shipped. What the heck? I've had to start a dispute with my credit card company as they won't even cancel the order. This is nothing less than illegal and immoral. I will not order from this disreputable store again. read more

This is one of the best comic book stores that I have been to. I frequently go there on Wednesdays and I am never disappointed in their selection of new and back issue comics. Both Mikes are extremely helpful and will go out of their way to help me find variants that I am looking for. Came into this store thinking I was going to go in, grab and go, but instead wasted about 10 minutes waiting for someone to be at the register. I didnt even know who was working since everyone was in the gaming area, talking and playing not even paying attention to the 3 customers that came in. Whats worst is that once the worker realized I was at the register all he did was slowly walk and then stopped again to talk to his friend. The friend even pointed me out telling him he was needed at the register but instead this worker stood there pretending he didnt see me or hear his friend. And when finally he started to move again he stopped once more to help a guy who was randomly looking at a dollar bin, which btw the customer stated that he didnt need any help at all, still the worker stood there trying to talk to him about comics and what to pick up and things. Once he finally reach the register by slowly walking he didnt say sorry and acted like an ass smiling. After this situation and the YEARS I've continued to buy and support this shop I will no longer come here. There are finer shops 5 mins away such as Amazing Comics, who has a wider selections of toys, cards and accessories. They also have months and months of back issue ready to grab. Also the workers at Amazing actual KNOWS not only there customers and their preferences but great customer service. Pulp Fiction is another shop near by they have HC and TPB for days and they're 40% OFF if you pay by cash!! They also have a wide selection of comics specially Independent books which at times the first issues would be 50% off the cover price. And you know what? Pulp ALWAYS has someone at the register! read more

I think this may be my favorite place to waste money on trade paperbacks and hardcovers. I've always aspired to be a comic collector but it never panned out. It mainly comes down to room and the often infrequentness of the the titles I'm interested in. Somehow any title I try to follow is reaped with delays and then I just forget or loose funds. Which leaves me waiting for the collected works to be released. The selection is great and their willingness to pretty much order you anything that's available to them is very much welcome. They have plenty of boxes filled with back issues that they're more then willing to bring them out for you to browse. The real key to their success for me is the customer service. I've never had a bad experience not to mention an odd look from their employees. The layout of the store is small and quaint. The comics are organized in new releases, last weeks releases and I believe the week before thats releases. With bookshelves in the middle for the trades. Also, which I though was kind of neat above the comics they have the Hardcovers of all the recent events going on in the Marvel and DC universe. Which just does wonders for me because I'm interested in continuity. I mainly make my way in here on Sundays and they have this fellow who is quite tall and he's always been enthusiastic and helpful to fill me in on cool things that are happening in the Marvel Universe...which is the superior universe by far...duh. I'm kidding but highly recommend coming here for all your comic booking needs. read more

He kept insisting I have herpes in a non direct way with his employees and customers, not coo man. I don't really know what he is talking about at times, but he is really kind of like a bully. So far so great! The staff is friendly. Especially behind the counter. As soon as you walk through the door, theres a long row of long boxes to thumb through. Membership is twenty or twenty five for a yr of 15% off. Me and my bro signed up first visit. Angel works there til eleven pm. So cool to look at comics nice and late. My new favorite shop. Metropolis comics has become my official shop for Hot Toys. Anyone who collects Sideshow/Hot Toy products knows there are very few shops that have an official license from Sideshow to sell their products. Which means you either have to purchase directly from Sideshow or buy them on eBay or Amazon. Which means extra money and time with shipping. Going to Metropolis makes things so much easier and convenient for me which is automatically 5 stars in my book. As an added bonus, the staff is cool and helpful. Mike is the main person I deal with and he always helps me out with questions I have. They have an excellent selection of DC Direct Figures, Star Wars black series, Marvel Select, Marvel Legends, and Marvel/DC Misc. figures all for retail price. They also have some Japanese products like Bandai and Playarts. I highly recommend getting their yearly or lifetime membership because it's an automatic 15% of your purchases (I think 20% if you get lifetime but I'm not sure). You can't beat that. read more

I have visited the store quite a few times, and a lot of these reviews are pretty much spot on. There are very many pros to this comic shop however there are also cons as well. Pros: + EXCELLENT lay out of their comic rack. Their rack goes as far back as comic books from three weeks, even putting their restocked comics along with the fresh comics of the week rather than putting them down the line from the original release date. They also have a more wider selection of the new comics of the week as they have two whole sections dedicated to the comics of the week. +Very nice and functional library of back issues. You'll either have some by the door to the left as you walk in, or you'll have them literally all around the store, the nearest being on the right as you walk in. You will find their back issues very accessible and for the ones that are not, they are very quick to assist you. +Much better showcase stands for all their busts and statues. A very wide variety as well. +Excellent variety in collectibles ranging from playarts action figures to marvel select action figures, all the way to Funko Pop Vinyls and even plushies. +Their apparel set up is very nice as well. +I find it very nice that they sell both snacks and chilled beverages for any of the table top players that wish to set up shop for a nice game of their choosing. +Nice spot set up for table top gamers, and the television set ups are very nice as well. Cons: -Some of the staff do not act professional as they should be. Two examples. 1)I do not wish to purchase anything of Magic: The Gathering for a hundred bucks simply because I do not have a hundred bucks to blow on something such as that. On top of that, after I even inform you that I do not have the funds for that, I don't appreciate being heckled as if my wallet will suddenly grow an extra on hundred bucks to buy whatever it is you are trying to sell me. And asking me another five times will give you the same answer, and another five times of being asked is only going to get me annoyed. 2)I personally don't mind 'puppy love' when I see it. However in an establishment such as this, it is not acceptable. I simply engaged in conversation with a lady about a bruise on her neck and simply said to be more careful when doing her job as a joke. She then went on to tell me something about a tall samoan being the reason for this, and went on to even say something that obviously hinted at a very delicate matter. The only reason I say this is a concern is because the lady was very audible in her words, and there was a child nearby. If I were to bring my child to what I would hope to be a kid friendly establishment since it's a comic book store, I would not want them exposed to that kind of thing. -With the last example above, sometimes it doesn't seem very kid friendly with some of the topic of conversation that go on between employees and customers. I do not mind, however if I were a parent, I would try to hope that my child would pay it no mind. -You sell game items for various other games at your establishment yet the only one you will even promote let alone seem to give a damn about is Magic: The Gathering? I wouldn't see a point in the store selling other table top games if they will not hold any kind of organized play. I see on their calendar that Magic takes up both days of the weekend, and depending on the occasion, the ENTIRE weekend. This does not make very much since to me. Why sell other table top games if you do not show any effort in trying to hold any organized play for them? -The system for special ordering seems VERY flawed. I went in to order a simple Deadpool shirt for a dear friend of mine who needs a XXXL size. I asked if they had the size and they told me they did not and that it would have to be special ordered from the store. I asked if they can do that for me in which they said they would be happy to do so. I asked for an estimated time of arrival and they said anywhere from one to two weeks. I gave the shop two weeks in which I was told that they got nothing yet so it would be in in another two weeks. A month has now passed and still no shirt. I was then told that it was left in charge of someone else and that they should be asked, in which I asked them and they told me the same thing of it being there in two weeks. Two and a half months passed and STILL no shirt in which they proceeded to tell me that it was then left in charge of the owner of the store, as it was his responsibility and that it would be in two weeks exactly. Come back in two weeks and they then go on to tell me that the shirt had been discontinued in that size. I took a lengthy drive down to Frank and Sons and asked them for the t-shirt, and got it in XXXL size in one week. -With the example above, their membership is flawed in only one aspect. I will not put down half the money for a special order only to not receive it and to be told it has been "discontinued". read more

Having been recently released from a woman's holding cell at the Bellflower Sheriffs station for sex crimes my court appointed attorney, prison chaplain and voices in my head recommend that I don't discuss here, I decided to embrace my new found freedom by taking a stroll down Bellflower Blvd. I was a little nervous at first because it appeared that many other prisoners were not only just released but also celebrating right there on Bellflower Blvd. However, my nerves were quickly dashed when I happened upon Metropolis. I initially mistook it for a sex shop, what with the street view windows being completely obscured by posters featuring a variety of scantily clad ladies and gentlemen and then encountering a room chock full of kinda sweaty, kinda shifty looking men upon entering. I also mistook what turned out to be the green lantern symbol for the Astroglide star retailer logo so you can certainly imagine my confusion when I found nary a ben-wa ball, animal shaped vibrator, or hot slut mom dvd in the place. Luckily for me one of the aforementioned shifty looking men saw my confusion and offered to help. He politely explained that Metropolis is a comic book store and that comic book stores do not generally carry nor special order the intimate items I was looking for. He was then kind enough to suggest that I try a website called adam and eve, he even took the time to assure me that all packages arrived discreetly wrapped! TALK ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE! This guy really went out of his way to help me. Just when I thought I was leaving the store happy but empty handed, off to search for a public library with free internet access that didn't block sites like adam and eve, I noticed a Howard the Duck comic! I was instantly transported back to my youthful manimal fantasies, I mean who didn't want to be Lea Thompson? I ended up cancelling that library trip and heading home for a hot night of solo quacking. Honestly, I really wish I would have come across this place sooner, I feel like so many sex crimes and subsequent community service hours could have been avoided. read more

They have a great selection and also have a small but worthy selection of shirts. If we lived closer we would be there more. I didn't know where to start reading, but the staff was very helpful and friendly. they recommended me all sorts of different comics based on my interests. I didn't feel judged for not knowing super heros or indie comics. the store has a friendly atmosphere that makes you want to stick around and chat with them. :) read more

When it comes to my favorite local comic bookstore, Metropolis Comics comes to mind. It's one that I strongly recommend to comic book geeks who haven't visited the store and to individuals who aren't avid comic book readers. I even recommended this place to one of my supervisors because his son is starting to get into comic books. Just by looking at the colorful and decorative appearance of the bookstore I know that it's proof that its staff (called "Metropolis Superheroes" according to their YouTube channel) take pride in their love for comics. The store is clean and organized, so I know which section to look at if I'm looking for a particular comic book/graphic novel. My shopping experience here has always been fun and the staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. In addition, they hold special events at the store (usually visiting artists) and I do recommend coming to their annual Free Comic Book Day event where they hold raffles and give away prizes. read more

having moved into the community, about four or five years ago, i always made a habit to find a comicbook store near my new home. during the move in to our new home, did i go in search for the nearest store. then i found metropolis comics during their annual street carnival. since that day i have been doing business with them only. i even mentioned metropolis comics to my friends at work. i even take pride when it comes to advertising the stores specials like: book signings, store sales and discounts, free comicbook day,etc., when i say that metropolis is THE place to go for your sweet-tooth for the comics genre, metropolis IS the place to go. even to go better that, if they cant find it, they will help in getting what you are looking for. i've been collecting since i was eight. im 58 now. i should know what im passionate about. i love to do for my "me time". im a very satisfied customer. thanks metropolis comics. read more
