I've been going to Metro since they were on Gibbs St. I originally went because I have curly hair and had been all over town looking for someone who knew about curly hair. Not so easy. Stefania (Metro owner) was the only stylist I could find that was able to help. That was many years ago. The new place on University is beautifully appointed and the service is always wonderful. Stefania and her crew bend over backwards to please. After the winter lockdown of 2020 my roots grew in so much I decided to 'just embrace the gray'. My hair is not a pretty shade of gray however. Stefania now adds just the right amount of color to make it attractive. I'm very happy with it. Before Metro I had been all over town looking for someone who could 'do it right'. I purchased one of their products and later realised I had the same one and wanted to return it. They did not tell me their products have a no return policy at the time of purchase when I got it. I did not open or use the product. Then I went to return it and they stated due to covid they do not do returns. I find this surprising as if they really cared about the pandemic they should have a mask policy in place and other protocols. In summary, I would not make purchases here as their products are overpriced and they have a no return policy that is not told to you until you try to make a return. read more

I have been getting my nails done by Johanna at Metro Salon for over a year now and can say with confidence that she gives the best manicures and pedicures that I have ever had. My mother lives in Los Angeles and has visited many luxury salons in the area and still swears by Johanna's manis and pedis in Rochester. While Metro's nail prices may be a little pricey, you get for what you pay - a very clean salon, luxurious products, attentive staff - an overall fabulous job. I'm super picky about my hair and only trust one stylist. However, my stylist is in CA & I'm in NY now. I thought I'd be able to put up with my over grown roots and horribly cut hair (tried to get a haircut in Rochester but that was god awful) but I couldn't take it any more so I found Metro Salon and booked an appointment with Carly. Came in and loved the vibe of the salon. Met Carly and told her I wanted to go darker for the winter and fix my hair cut. I told her what I wanted and she also helped me by giving her input. We got started right away and now I am in absolute love with my hair! I had like carmel hair with over grown black roots and now I have a dark auburn with darker roots. Love it!! she definitely fixed my hair and blended my over grown bangs into my hair so they don't look all weird. Carly is amazing! I told her I was new in town and she definitely listed a bunch of places to go to and even helped me a little with housing. Oh, also my friend was waiting for me and she fell in love with the salon too so she decided to get a manicure. We had to come back since (Sarah...I think that was her name) was busy. We came back a few hours later and she got her nails done while I just chilled. Her nails came out really nice! Loved the color and everything! Not sure how pricing is in Rochester, but compared to the places I go to in CA it's pretty average. My hair cut was $35 but I got a $5 discount because I'm a student and for coloring it was $60 (normally $55 but we had to do two different tones and what not so I understood). My friend's manicure was $30. I think everything was worth it especially since their products are all organic and I believe they said they had vegan products and what not too. My friends and I will definitely be back to try the other services like the keratin hair treatment and what not! read more

I'm an actor, and quite fussy about my hair, and the work she did was just stunning. The staff that assisted her were sweet and funny and very professional. Just had an amazing experience at Metro Salon. I've been here several times before (once to have a very large pony tail cut off to donate to locks of love--so they will do that if you are looking to donate your hair). This was the first time I had Stephania cut my hair though. She really took the time to talk to me about my hair, and answer my questions. I was really impressed with her expertise. Expected to see impeccable results based on reviews that I had been reading on here. My experience was nothing to rite home about. However, yelping is a different matter. I got my hair highlighted and cut when the whole hair process was over, I noticed that my hair was unevenly cut, and my roots were still showing a lot. I went back to have them fix it, and while they did when I had the bleach in my hair my head was burning. The results came out better the second time, but for the quality of work they gave the price was unreasonable. read more

I had such a great experience here today. I saw Brooke and she was wonderful. She was super nice and had a passion for her craft. I always have the issue of not knowing what to do with my hair. I told her my frustration, and she knew exactly how to help. She really knew about having curly hair. The whole salon is vegan friendly as well. I wish a salon like this existed where I live. I think that whenever I come to visit, I will have to drop by and get a great haircut. It was very affordable as well. They have a $5 student discount so the cut ended up being $25 plus tip. She pointed out a few imperfections in my previous cut that she immediately fixed, and gave me something fresh, beautiful, and easy to take care of. I recently switched salons after a long term relationship with my former stylist. My hair was looking and feeling damaged and boring; I needed a change and my stylist wasn't encouraging any changes. I just had the most fantastic experience at Metro Salon! I've recently moved from my small town far away to Rochester, so I've had the same person doing my hair for most of my life. After a recent dye botch at my cow town salon, I knew that it was finally time to make the switch. Metro Salon is right by my apartment building and seeing the great reviews here, I decided to make an appointment. I spoke with Michael who set me all up (even w/ text notifications, whoo!). I've never had a 'real stylist,' before moving permanently to Rochester. Now, I have a lot of thick, curly hair - so for stylists to not feel inconvenienced by it is quite a big deal. Marianna worked on my goldilocks with such patience and precision, I was really impressed. I left feeling like a million bucks!! Friendly, clean, very zen atmosphere. My husband and I were there to have a quick trim and consultation with the owner about my husband's scalp/hair loss condition. But, unbeknownst to us, the owner decided to have her assistant do a "scalp treatment" on his head while she juggled two other clients. She didn't even warn us about this "treatment". They just took him over to the chair and aggressively "massaged" some sort of oil on his very fragile, sensitive scalp. Next, they moved him over to the sink and aggressively "massaged/washed" his scalp for what seemed like forever (at least 3-5 minutes) ignoring my concerns about his scalp sensitivities. And, they aggressively brushed and blow dried his scalp, to boot. By this time, his scalp was SO red, I almost died. To top it all off, his hair was cut unevenly!! They also cut the top too much which exposed his thinning areas . Lastly, his condition worsened because of all this. Stay away. They won't listen to you, they'll just do what they want while you helplessly watch in horror. It was a total nighmare. read more

I live in NYC, but needed to get a mani/pedi for a wedding in Rochester. It was very easy to make an appointment through e-mail which was perfect for me since I was in meetings all day and couldn't call. The salon itself is very nice and they immediately set me up with tea and kept my cup full through out the appointment. The women who did my mani/pedi was very experienced and gave great advice when I wasn't sure what color to use. I also will be the first to admit that I am rough on my feet due to playing sports, and she not only made toes look as good as possible, but she also complied with my request to leave my calluses alone. It was also refreshing to have a relaxing mani/pedi experience, versus the usual time in NYC where you are rushed in and out. Another added bonus was that the massage chair that I sat in for the pedi actually gave a great massage. Finally to top it off, they had homemade brownies to share!
