I've been here multiple times now...2 haircuts and 2 waxes and have had great experiences every single time! The wax was quick and professional, and the ladies have been great to chat with throughout. For my haircut and color, I have been going to Erica and she's wonderful. Very consistent, always listens and will give me other ideas after asking if I'm open to hearing them (her ideas have been better than mine). She asks questions like "if you could change anything about your hair, what would it be?" and then uses that information to give you the perfect cut, style, and advice. I've had very mixed experiences here. I've gotten my hair trimmed/waxes here before and they did well. However recently I went here to schedule an appointment for my wedding hair. First I scheduled a trial and my stylist cancelled twice over the span of about a month. At this point it was only two weeks before my wedding and they couldn't fit me in with another "senior stylist" so I went with another random stylist and understood appointment would be free of charge for the inconvenience. However once the trial was done (it took almost 3 hours and still wasn't quite right) I still had to pay 95+ tip as apparently only the hair cut was free (25) and I still was expected to pay for the styling. Then we get to my wedding day and I am supposed to have a senior stylist but was cancelled on a THIRD time the day of my wedding and was only told once I arrived at the salon. The same girl who did my trial did my wedding hair and I didn't complain much because who wants to complain on their wedding day? My bridal party also got their hair done and it was all beautiful but mine took an extra hour compared to my bridal party even though I requested a very very simple style , just curls and a little bit pinned back, and it came out very poorly despite me trying to steer the stylist in the right direction. I had to redo my hair completely afterwards even though I paid over 100 for my hair. I curled it myself and had a wedding guest who happened to do hair help me style it. Took less then 20 minutes and was perfect when we did it ourselves. After the wedding I looked back at the photos they took at the salon and I can't believe they let me walk out like it was! Totally falling out, messy, asymmetrical and bobby-pins showing (Photos from the salon and by the time I got home) About 3 weeks after my wedding when all the celebrations were done we called this salon back to explain what happened and ask for a partial refund or at least something. My mother who called was accused of "extortion" by the owner when she said she was calling before I posted this review... which is an honest review and we wanted to give them a chance to right it before complaining online. Then we were told we should have planned my wedding further out which has nothing to do with them messing up my hair so much. In the end they said they would call us back and it's been 4 days now. Overall really disappointing, This was the most stressful part of my whole wedding. They should have done more to compensate me or at least done my hair well... this was my WEDDING hair for crying out loud. read more

I've given Tru three tries with two different stylists but have just never had good results. First, everyone is very nice at the salon so my experience has not been unpleasant. I go for a cut and highlights and my hair is not easy to deal with, it is fairly curly in the back and wavy/straight, in the front. Also, I am a busy professional so need to be able to wash and go - I don't have hours to straighten and style my hair every day - not even 15 minutes, usually. The cuts themselves are technically fine, it's just that they are 1.) extremely boring bob/lob with some layers and 2.) not a good fit for my hair. Because of the curls and waves, if I don't straighten my hair every day, styles that have long, subtle layers, just frizz up and look lumpy and messy. I want a style that works with my hair, not against it, and these guys just don't seem to get that. I've lived in London, NYC and DC where I've received some great styles that do just that from some really awesome stylists. Honestly, the Tru stylists are pretty average, but at the price I think customers deserve a lot better. The highlights have been fine color wise, but I always see roots (like 1/2 inch) the minute I walk out of there. Again, not terrible, but for the price, you deserve better. read more

Love these folks. Super friendly, super classy. Samantha is the quintessential front desk gal. I LOVE walking in that door and getting to say "hey" to Samantha first. She is always so warm and welcoming and excited about the new products and services the team is learning about and offering. Her enthusiasm rubs off! Even though it's in Schoen Place which could (and does) have some "holier than thou" temperaments scattered about, there is no hint of arrogance found at Trü. Katy, the owner, is a happy power to be reckoned with. She has all kinds of creativity, kindness and business savvy all wrapped into the total package! I have also encountered Kayla who epitomizes all that is good with energizing clients and helping them to be confident that they are in the right place for customer service and 100% satisfaction​. Nice people, but my recent haircut was a major mess-up. I'm upset enough that I'll never go back.

A few weeks ago, before coming to tru, I visited a different salon that completely botched my highlights. They made them very stripey and brassy which made me so upset. On Monday morning, I called tru salon in Pittsford to see if they had any openings, explaining my situation. I had not been to tru prior, but instead read and relied on online posts from customers. I absolutely love the location of this hair shop. It has a parking lot with many different shops and restaurants around (just incase you arrive early). At first, I was very hesitant and nervous, but after I entered, the receptionist was so warm and welcoming. She asked if I would like anything to drink and my appointment began exactly at 12 as promised. As I waited, I looked at all of their organized, aveda products! This salon is smaller than other salons I have been to, but very clean, organized and modern. I love the large mirror stations! At 12 I worked with MOLLY who is absolutely AWESOME! She is young, pretty and most importantly - nice!! I explained my situation with my highlights and showed her ideas of what I might want instead. She assured me she can fix my highlights with no problem and I put trust in her! We talked throughout the entire appointment. Molly was very interested in everything I had to say, and she even recommended me to a delicious icecream spot which i tried after my appt! I felt really comfortable working with her. Molly washed my hair and blew dry my hair so softly. She really has a lot of talent and I ended up with exactly what I wanted done!! I feel 100% better and I am looking forward to booking another appt. At the end of my appt, I met the owner (Julie) who was very vibrant and kind. All of the girls complimented me which made me feel really good! Lastly, the receptionist gave me a 20 dollar offer card to use towards a future service. I will def. be back! I've been going to tru for around 3 years and have always had pleasant experiences with everyone there. I've loved every haircut I've gotten. However, I got my hair bleached blonde there and my hair is now completely broken and not just a normal amount of damage you'd expect from bleach. I have bangs that I didn't cut from pure breakage and the top and bottom layers of my hair are the same length. I got my haircut here for the first time early this afternoon and had a wonderful experience! I was offered coffee/tea/water when I arrived and didn't have to wait long before Colleen brought me back. The place is decorated for Christmas and just looks adorable. It's very clean and bright space. All of the haircuts begin with a short scalp massage (yes, please). Colleen did an excellent job cleaning up the mess on my head, I feel like a new person! And I smell great from the Aveda products. She listened to what I wanted and described exactly how she was gonna help me out. I came in for an appointment at Tru Salon due to the positive reviews on yelp and google . Now, I always wait a few days before reviewing salons because feelings often change...but after a wash with purple shampoo I can confirm I am disappointed with the results. Natalie did my hair and as far as personality goes, she was very nice; however, her highlights left me with the impression she is very inexperienced. After discussing what I wanted and showing a few pictures of warm blonde highlights she mixed the product and foiled my hair. After the shampoo, I caught a glimpse of my hair and it looked very dark. I decided to wait until it was dry to look again. She didn't have time to cut my hair or finish my wavy blow dry, so she had someone else finish it... and this stylist just sloppily dried it, not even trying to curl or straighten it...I could of done a better job myself. When I looked at my hair dry I was disappointed. Very subtle thin sparse highlights through my hair, and the worst part is the underneath is over processed and damaged. She left the bleach on too long on the earlier foils (other salons I have been to spray water on the older foils to prevent over-processing). I was really hoping to leave feeling more beautiful but instead I felt like I wasted 3 hours of my precious time... make that almost 5 because I drove over 40 minutes to go to one of the "best" salons around. read more

I booked a facial with Christine due to some minor skin problems I was having. I have had a facial before, and it wasn't something that stuck out to me. However, I wanted to give it a try again, and I went in hoping to relax and feel better in my skin. My experience with Christine went above and beyond any expectations I had for my session. It was incredible. She explained everything to me, and addressed my body-mind-spirit instead of just the redness on my face. Which, by the way, saw incredible results. She explained to me how the layers of the skin work, why I was experiencing what I was, and formulated a plan for me to resolve it. I was blown away- and booked another session with her on the spot. I also got my hair cut afterwards with Courtney. She was so nice and did a great job listening to exactly what I wanted and making it happen- and also checking in with me through the process to make sure I was getting what I wanted. I've had bad hair experiences in the past- but she made me feel better about getting it cut more often again. I booked with her again as well. All in all, you cannot go wrong with this adorable salon & spa in the heart of the pittsford village right on the canal. It was a phenomenal experience for me. I've had every service possible from Kristine--facials, manicure, pedicure, makeup application, waxing, stress relief treatment...she is amazing. I get a facial and waxing from her each month and she did my wedding nails and makeup. She is so great at her job, with great recommendations, and super friendly. Do yourself a favor and get in to see her. I've had a variety of stylists cut my hair. It seems that each time I find one I like, she leaves or adjusts her hours. Courtney is extremely talented in coloring and she always keeps my vision/style a priority. The atmosphere at Tru is very relaxing and enjoyable. Everyone at the salon is extremely friendly, courteous, and skilled, not too mention the whole salon is scented by wonderful Aveda products. Often while I wait for my color to process, I smell the Chakra wall, get a free hand massage by one of the girls, and flip through a variety of popular magazines. These days excellent customer service is SO rare that when you witness it you need to say something! Every time I step into Tru salon I am treated with excellent service like I have been going there for years. I buy my shampoo there and have had excellent blowouts there too. Today I called desperately trying to get my husband in for a much needed, last minute hair cut. The receptionist in Pittsford told me they were booked but that she would be happy to call the Park Ave location to see if they had an opening. She put me on a brief hold, called and confirmed a time and got back on the line to confirm the time, the stylist and offer directions. She was incredibly helpful and patient and went above and beyond. read more

I absolutely love Tru salon and the staff. I have never walked out of there unhappy in the least bit. HOWEVER, there is a lady by the name of Julie there, i believe she is the owner? or a manager? I have NEVER met someone so incredibly rude in my entire life. She treats her staff like the dirt on the floor she walks on. She is constantly making snide remarks to them and constantly criticizing them. Not once have I ever heard a nice thing come out of her mouth about one of her employees. One time as i went to cash out I listened to her talk to another employee about a girl that was working for her. Making fun of her and saying very nasty things. Having recently moved from Denver, I was already an established Aveda salon fan. So I picked the salon closest to my new home and went on Yelp to read reviews. Courtney's name kept coming up so I called and asked for her (only to learn that she was indeed popular and rather booked up). The receptionist said Kat had availability that day so I went with her. I hesitate to rave about Kat only because I don't want her to get so booked up that I can't get in! In all honestly, Kat is fabulous and talented and is without a doubt, my go-to gal. Just yesterday I had my husband's work holiday party and Kat washed and styled my hair into these gorgeous ringlets that held throughout the night. I felt so pampered and lovely, and certainly could not have created this style on my own. I simply told Kat what my dress looked like, and she envisioned the most complimentary styling. I gave her full creative control, trusting she would pull through, and she nailed it, as she always does. As for the overall vibe of Tru Salon, I have experienced snooty before and this place is just the opposite. I always feel welcomed, immediately recognized (never ignored), and well taken care of. Each visit I am offered tea or coffee when I arrive, and the staff is even atop of refills, which I appreciate.
