This was one of my favorite places in Rochester, and I would go often for my hair for years. It's hands down the place in the area. Larry, the owner, was always able to execute whatever I wanted. And everyone here is so friendly and wonderful. He also carries high end products that really work. I just had an amazing haircut and style from him, and it's just gorgeous. I had to buy the products he used, they smelled so good and my hair was a glossy miracle! You can see the picture. I never really gave much thought about getting my hair cut or styled, it was just something I had to do... that was until I meant Lindsey form Larijames. I never knew there were so many options and techniques you can do with your hair, from the simplest ways to style everyday hair to a fancier change up for a night on the town. As soon as you walk in you can tell the staff here take pride in this salon, always full of product, bright and clean. Once you sit down they ask what you want to drink. I now only trust Lindsey with my hair, and love of she listens to exactly what you want and explains what she is going to do step by step. I love the openness of the salon, everyone sits in an open circle when their getting their hair colored. So instead of sitting facing a mirror by yourself, you can have a conversation with multiple people. Such a friendly atmosphere. My favorite part is when Lindsey washes and massages my hair/scalp..... this is amazing, you close your eyes and its like you are relaxing on a beach somewher for a mini vacation. I have fallen asleep before..because its so relaxing! She mixes different high and low lights in my hair (depending on the season) and I was leave feeling beautiful and confident! They have a great reward program here too, you check in on FB for discounts and free haircuts. I went there for Shellac nails and a facial right before the holidays. This is the 2nd time I've been there and so far, I've had very pleasant experiences with Michelle, a hairstylist, and Sandy (waxing, facials, etc), with drop-bys from the owner himself to make sure I'm enjoying myself. The Shellac nails were done by a very nice girl however I've had better quality "final product" elsewhere (Scruples in Webster). There are some bumps that were not smoothed over and some edges that can use some filling in. All in all, not bad- you have to look close to notice. I'm not unhappy, I've just seen it done better. European Facial by Sandy- $65 for 60 minutes in heaven-on-earth. I highly recommend this and will be giving gift certificates for Christmas. Sandy does a skin analysis and welcomes you into the most relaxing, refreshing hour you've enjoyed in a long time (if ever!). She's so sweet and easy to talk to but lets you guide the pace of small-talk so you can enjoy the entire hour in peace if you'd prefer. This facial involves, moisturizing and exfoliation (all adjusted to your needs) arm/hand/shoulder massage, heated towels, heated mittens on your lotion soaked hands; not a minute wasted. I've been getting my hair cut her since about 1998 when the salon was just a converted house and not the behemoth building it is now. I would get the last appointment on Thursday or Friday, walk across the street from my apartment, and have some wine while getting my hair cut. I get my hair cut by Christi or Michelle. I've been going here for so long I generally get into the chair and trust them to do whatever they want. I trust them and their work. I have gotten massages here before too, from Maria, but it's been so long I'm unsure if she still works here. She always did a good job. Went here for the first-time this past weekend to get a color with Randi. Booking an appointment: You can request an appointment online and specify your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd preferred time and dates. They texted me the day before my 1st preferred time to confirm my appointment. Thankfully, I don't have too much of a life (in all seriousness) so I didn't mind this and accepted the appointment. Busier folks might prefer more of a lead-time. Salon vibe: Lots of parking, easy to find off of Empire, big, open space, and everyone gets their hair colored in a circle in the middle. Everyone is friendly and doesn't come off pretentious. The appointment: Easy check-in and Randi was very nice and easygoing. I got a single, permanent color that was darker than what I had so it wasn't anything too complicated. She showed me some options on what she thought would work best with my hair and offered me a choice of water, juice, or wine while I got my hair colored which is always a nice touch. What I appreciated most about the appointment is that Randi was able to gauge my mood. I am very low maintenance when it comes to my hair (I might go to a salon just a couple times a year) and I am very transactional about getting my hair done. I don't care much for crazy small talk when I get my hair done because I really just want to relax and Randi was able to balance that by being friendly and accommodating, but not pushy. She didn't push any hair products on me and casually inquired about a follow-up appointment. Once I mentioned that I'd figure out my schedule and book online as needed, she was totally cool about it and didn't press further. I'd go back just because of that courtesy alone. I was happy with how my hair came out too. Check-out: Nice and easy but I didn't realize that I could not tip on my card. The price was reasonable and since it was my first-time at the salon, they let me add the tip on my card but I have a mental note for the future to bring cash. Like Randi, they did not push me to buy any products (even though there are nice gift sets in the waiting area) and was the same regarding a follow-up appointment. I've been to many well rated salons throughout the Rochester area and have never felt so accommodated and comfortable as I do at Larijames. I only ever have Lindsey do my hair and trust no matter what I ask for (even if it's, "just do whatever") I always leave extremely pleased with the result. She always nails the exact color I have in mind even when I can't exactly explain it to her and even when I'm just in for a trim I still feel like I leave feeling 10 times better than I did when I arrived. All of the staff is so friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. The overall energy in the salon is super positive. I recommend everyone I know to go here when they're looking to try a new salon and have also gotten very positive feedback from anyone who's made an appointment. I first went to Larijames Salon for lash extension. Sandy is absolutely awesome. She does not try to push you to products but instead focuses on what works for you. I trust no one else to do my lashes for me other than Sandy. After a few visits, I asked Sandy to recommend me a stylist because I was looking to have my hair cut but was apprehensive about working with someone new. Sandy asked about my budget, my style, and my comfort level. She recommended me to Larry. Larry is meticulous, professional, and calming. Hands down THE person you want to work on your hair if you are unsure about what you want. Not only did my balayage hair color turned out natural and beautiful, the cut Larry did on me was stunning. Larry took his time in cutting my hair, and shaping it to suit my face. I was concerned going short will totally make my face look HUGE, but Larry assured me that he will shape the cut to suit my features. I left completely happy and stoked. One thing though.... Larry is busy and booked solid for months to come. So if you want a meticulous professional working on you, be prepared to wait. read more

Very underwhelmed by the quality of service. Had my make-up and hair done and both were disastrous. I believe that since I went on a Saturday, which is their busiest day, they scheduled me with their worst stylists but that's no excuse since I was charged premium prices for both services. I looked like an oompa-loompa from the make-up and my eye make-up was nowhere close to being evenly done. My hair looked like something I could have done at home for free. I had to change stylists because she wasn't able to cut my hair "right." My hair is very heavy with no body, and I can look like I have a bowl on my head without the right cut. Lindsey listened - really listened - to my concerns, and I got the best cut I've had in years. She used techniques that other stylists hadn't tried. She gives the most wonderful shampoo, too - like a head & neck massage - and she's trained other stylists in the shop in the technique - make sure that you ask for the "Lindsey shampoo." The price is reasonable for the quality of service - $45.00 for a full cut & blow-out, only $35.00 without the blow-out. read more

I went for a manicure and a pedicure the day after the 4th of July this year - it was my first time at Larijames. When I arrived, the receptionist was less than pleasant. The atmosphere was nice and clean - that was about the extent of my happiness with the place. I was brought upstairs for my mani/pedi and immediately started hearing about how the two nail technicians did not want to be there that day. I then heard about how miserable they were at their jobs and ALL about their personal drama. While I tried to tone it out, I just couldn't. The services themselves were decent but my nails started chipping within a few days - I don't do labor intensive work. In fact, I was getting my nails done for a wedding the next day. Plain and simple - the price was fair but I will definitely be paying more for a better experience elsewhere. It's too bad because I really wanted to enjoy myself. And no - my nail technician did not deserve nor did she receive a tip. read more

Got my hair cut for first time in over a year. I went to Lindsay. I took a pic with me. She took me to her chair and combed thru my hair dry which I think is important to know what condition my hair is in before cutting. She said the style in pic would work with my fine hair. She gave me a shampoo and scalp massage. Then cut my hair to just like the photo. It looks wonderful and feels wonderful. I had several people at work compliment me on the style and cut. She is very personable. She also teaches for Paul Mitchell's and went to school there in NYC. she knows her stuff and I'd recommend her to anyone especially if you are "shy" about getting your hair cut. The best salon in Rochester, hands down. The folks here are extremely talented, and the owner is wonderful. My wife goes to Larijames every 3-4 months for hair, nails and facials. After visiting several different salons over the years, she says Larijames is by far the most professional, with the nicest interior and the best staff. I have been to Larijames Salon a few times. I had a great experience with Randi. I always scheduled my next appointment before I left. I would receive a card with the appointment date/ time written down. EVERY time the appointment was either not written down or scheduled incorrectly. They did not match what was written on the card. 2 weeks after getting my hair cut, Patty called me to confirm my hair appointment...I kindly explained this was the 3rd time the scheduling was off. Patty was extremely rude and put off that I was telling her about my scheduling experience. She said she was sorry and what else did I want, when I said I didn't want anything, she hung up on me. I go here pretty often for a simple layered cut and followup bang trim about 4 weeks later. I adore sarah and randi. I had a bad style from Christian but i don't think he is still there! Cut and blow dry runs about $35. The bang trim is complimentary between cuts!! read more

I went in for a textured bob, showed the stylist pictures and got a horrible haircut. My hair looks nothing like I asked for, is uneven, has no texture and is flat. When I hinted that my hair was not turning up how I wanted and asked if she could bring in more layers or add more body, she dismissed my concerns and tried to cover my concerns by putting product in my hair (that she claimed would help add texture) but just made it flat. I was quickly rushed out of the salon chair, feeling defeated and left with a cut that made me really upset while she tended to another client. I have gone here for years and this is the worst service I have received. read more

Will not be returning. Haircut was ok, not great. My stylist barely talked to me and spent most of her time talking to co-workers. I felt like a number, rushed my cut. The salon let me put a tip on the credit card but said I have to use cash for any future tips? No thanks. read more
