Metro Shrimp & Grits
Mr. Kim H.

My girlfriend and I stopped in for shrimp and grits, and they absolutely nailed it. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, the grits were rich and creamy, and the whole dish had that comforting Southern flavor done right. Service was friendly, fast, and the vibe was warm and welcoming. Easily one of the best meals we've had in the area. Highly recommend Metro Diner if you're craving real comfort food done well.

We have arrived. It's a family affair!

We had Troy as a server! He was kind and had a Nice sense of humor. We went here in honor of my Dad Kenny. He ordered from this restaurant 3 times a week and loved the fish fry, and breakfast. I would always order the salomn. My Dad is no longer with us but coming here gave a sense of home and peace. This is a true casual diner where everyone is welcome. I saw older families and younger families. Come as you are and have some good food and great service.

Cute place, tables cleaned, table bidder was thorough and always smiling; quick to clean up after patrons left as well! (That young man could give some pointers to TX Roadhouse about how to clear dishes so people can eat!) Waitress was fast, friendly, kind and attentive! Def diner vibe, which I liked! Food was okay, hash browns were super greasy but I guess most are. I got the bacon egg and cheese croissant and the majority of it was just a huge bottom piece of a croissant. It's hard to explain. It's like the bottom was almost an Italian subroll or similar to that in size and shape but then one small corner of that had the egg, cheese and 2 pcs of bacon. The rest had nothing on it. Topping that there was a normal sized croissant top. Totally edible but awkward and weird to pick up. I ended up just cutting the excess croissant off and trying to make it more the proper shape to be able to eat. By then it was a little cold but it took me a few to decide best ways to make it edible. It didn't really have any taste at all, whatsoever so not something I'd fancy trying again. 4 stars because of pleasant and quick service and super fast bus boy--that man was on it!

Chicken and waffles and fried chicken Benedict

My husband and I were in town and decided to try Metro Diner for breakfast based on the positive reviews it had. I'm happy to say we weee not disappointed! The restaurant was fairly busy for breakfast and our server was very quick to greet us very shortly after we sat down. Additionally, she was very friendly and attentive throughout our meal, even refilling my husband's coffee without him having to ask. There was an error on the bill which she quickly addressed and corrected. For breakfast my husband ordered chicken and waffles and I ordered fried chicken Benedict. My husband enjoyed his meal and the portion was quite large. My Benedict was delicious, with a fresh made biscuit and perfectly poached eggs. Im glad we found this restaurant and gave it a try! We will definitely be back if we are in town again!

Came here with a friend for breakfast and must say its definitely not a Jersey diner. This reminds me of The Turning Point or First Watch more than a diner but nonetheless the food was good. My friend got a big stack of cinnamon roll pancakes that looked amazing. She said they are her go to. I ordered the chicken, biscuits and gravy special that was amazing. My chicken was fried goodness on a pillow soft biscuits smothered in a spicy sausage gravy. I was happy. Took home a piece of bread pudding. One of the best I have had. All in all, service was good, food delicious and the restaurant adorable. If in the area, I would go back

A "bowl" of soup

Long wait when arrived just after opening. Soup was cold. I ordered a bowl of soup but it was a 1 cup serving in a bowl. When I asked if they could microwave it, they forgot to bring it back. Spouse was done his meal so I took it to go which is why I know it was a cup of soup. I had to ask for an adjustment. I got $1.50 off the bill.

What an adorable and tasty little diner!…read more When we arrived the place was packed and we followed the signage instructions to "seat ourselves". Very shortly we were greeted, handed menus and our coffee order was taken, impressive efficiency with a full house! I've have a recent hankering for scrapple and I'm glad this is where I got it- super crispy exterior with a meaty punch of flavor inside, probably the best scrapple I've ever had. I chose the eggs Chesapeake, which is eggs Benedict on a bed of lump crab- you can't go wrong, it's delicious! Husband got the Jo Jo's breakfast burger (without the bun) and the patty was HUGE - a very filling and flavorful choice. Pro Tip: the menu says home fries but it's like a cross between mashed potatoes and diced potatoes - order them extra crispy and you'll be happy you did.

I'm glad, because with it being slightly off the 'main drag' in Middletown, we might not have seen it otherwise. We arrived towards the end of the dinner rush hour, and fortunately were seated over by where a musician was playing. It was a busy night, and we were tired and hungry from a day at the faire. As it was busy, there were sportsball games going and the musician playing, shouting was required for discussion and we had some funny misunderstandings YOUR GRAPE IS ON THE MOON? WHAT? Oh, your gravy is a little cool! :) The musician was great, playing lots of 70s and 80s hits, and he seemed to enjoy us singing along and dancing. We are, after all, rennies. We're glad he was enjoying us as much as we were enjoying his music. We got drinks and menus quickly, and our server was attentive without being pushy. After a few minutes looking over the menu, she appeared and we ordered. I got the Stampede Burger, while one of my friends got the Prime Dip sandwich (AKA French Dip), and one got chicken fingers. All came in reasonable time and were quite good, hearty food. So, why the one star off? Dessert. Could we have a brownie sundae? Out of brownies. OK, how about chocolate cake? Out of that, too. Uh...red velvet? Out. Basically everything chocolate. Sigh. Yeah, it was busy but not insane. We ended up not getting dessert, and it was disappointing. Whoever's managing food orders and prep, please do better. Also, if it's not available, it would have been great for the server to say so up front, that way she didn't have to tell us no 3 times. Parking in a private lot, plentiful. We would go again, we just will plan on dessert elsewhere.

I can honestly say, I have nothing negative to say. Drinks,…read moregreat. Appetizer, amazing Entree, even better Service, amazing. We had the most wonderful waitress. We will be back.

Typically this one is super packed on the weekend but a few weeks ago, there were plenty of spots out front so we finally stopped in. Breakfast was quick and the server was friendly. I just had fried eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. It was all good except the bacon could have been cooked longer but next time I'll specify that I like it nice and crispy. Still missing their fiesta omelet that they took off the menu years ago - maybe one day they'll add it back or at least another omelet option cause I'm really an omelet type girl. Overall though, a good solid breakfast with the best hash browns.

We ordered the crab dip. It wasn't what I expected, but despite other reviews, it was loaded with crab. I'd give it a 2/5. We didn't eat half of it. I ordered a burger, and it came out burnt. Like, inedible, and the bacon was limp. Although there was a good amount of it. Nevertheless, I sent it all back. Fries were not freshly cut, likely frozen, and barely salted. Hubs ordered the steak and said that it was flavorless. He said it tasted like it was boiled, no salt, no pepper, nothing. I tasted his sweet potato mash and that tasted like baby food. Anyway, the manager comes out and apologizes for my meal and offers to comp me something. I say no thank you, but he insists. So, I asked for a dessert. Now, both him and the server come back to the table to let us know that the dessert order is in. We wait about 15-20 minutes. The server brings by the bill and my husband pays. Not a minute after the card is swiped, the manager comes over to say that he was just told that there is no more dessert. Interesting.
