So one of the things about working with certain vendors is that there is a level of trust that you have to have that the person or persons doing the work is doing the best job they can and making their best effort to earn your trust. This is the case for auto mechanics, plumbers or any variety of service providers who you contract to handle jobs for which you do not necessarily have the training or expertise to handle.
My original review for Metro Comfort Air (MCA) was a good one. The technician they sent out did his job professionally and provided the service we asked for. That was great. We later contacted MCA as our unit was not providing the cool air that it had been. We assumed there was something mechanically wrong with the unit. A new technician came out and first asked if we had a ladder he could use as there was either a problem with his or he didn't have one on his truck. After checking the unit, he told us they needed to replace not one, but two pumps. Okay, as I said earlier, you have to trust your service provider. The technician replaced one of the two pumps that day but said they needed to order the second pump and it might take a day or two. Understandable so we waited. The next week I called and asked when the second pump was going to come in? The person handling my call was very apologetic and said they'd make sure the technician contacted me that day. The day came and went. Fortunately the next day we were contacted and arrangements made to replace the second pump. The ladder was again an issue. Okay, we all get busy and things happen, I get it. Not the end of the world, but not the best customer service either.
Now we come to a couple of weeks after the pumps were replaced. We noticed a water stain appearing in our bathroom ceiling, This is directly under our unit. Obviously we have a leak. We turn off the water and the unit and make a call. MCA couldn't come out right away which we frankly expected. It would be a couple of days. So the technician makes it out. We explain what the problem is and why we believed it was happening (seemed to be when the unit was draining). Once again, asking to use our ladder (this time I noticed there was a ladder on his van), the technician went up on the roof. I was watching from the front yard and while I couldn't see everything he was doing, it didn't feel like he was seeing a problem. He talked about "old water" being on the roof and "attached" a house that would take the water when it drained, directly to the gutter. We turned the unit and water back on and saw no immediate leaking. I assumed he drained the unit, first to check for leaking and next to test his hose connection. Apparently, he did neither because, as I found out later, the only way to make the unit drain was from the control panel in our home. Because there was no immediate leakage, he said we were done and the problem was fixed and he left. Of course as soon as the unit went through it's automatic drain cycle, we had not the same water problem as before, now it was magnified. So much water came through the unit, it soaked our carpet so significantly it took three days to dry out (after soaking up most of it with a towel) and that was with a fan blowing directly on it most of that time.
After discovering the leak was not repaired (literally less than an hour after the technician left, I called MCA to explain the problem was not corrected. Again, apologetically, the person handling the call said she would contact the technician and he would get in touch with us ASAP. That evening we went up on the roof ourselves to see what had been done. Without being too technical, the hose that needed to be located directly in the reservoir to refill the unit after draining was disconnected and virtually spraying water all over the unit. Frankly, we tried to correct the problem but didn't have the tools to do so. It's been 5 days and we haven't heard back from anyone at MCA.
Because we didn't hear back, we contacted another company to come out and take a look. When their technician came out I explained in detail the situation. Using his own ladder, he got up on the roof and within five minutes corrected the problem. He insisted that I drain the unit from the control panel 4 times to ensure the leak was fixed. It was. By the way, he also removed the hose installed by the prior technician.
I started this review by saying that you have to have a level of trust that that the person or persons doing the work is doing the best job they can and making their best effort. Bottom line, Metro Comfort Air lost any trust that their first technician earned. I don't expect people to be perfect. But there is a minimal level of professionalism that should be part of any business and frankly, that doesn't appear to exist at MCA. read more
