With the rain that started a little over a week ago, I noticed a stain on the ceiling of my living…read moreroom. I wasn't 100% sure if it had always been there and I just happened to notice it now or if it was new from the rain. Not too concerned I went about my life. Fast forward to a few days ago, I noticed a second stain about 12 inches from the first stain and thats when I had figured that I for sure have a leak in my roof. With the weather forecast showing a lot of rain coming New Year's Eve, I started to worry and went up to the attic myself to see if I could find the leak and just how bad it was and maybe stop it if not slow it down. Well I found it, but because of how water runs, I could not tell if it was just one leak or multiple areas running together. I YouTubed how to find and fix leaks because I didn't want to spend a fortune on a roof that I might have been able to do myself for cheap. A couple of hours of videos later, I felt defeated and decided to let something like this get handled by professionals because I wasn't confident I could find the leak(s) on the roof and if I could even fix it for sure. On top of that, I was not trying to unintentionally or accidentally fall through my ceiling causing more damage or slip and fall off my wet roof and kill myself. ***** I went on Yelp to do research and ended up requesting quotes from a few businesses with a lot of good reviews for roofing in my area but didn't expect any response due to it being the weekend and New Year's Eve. The next day (New Years) I find out the rain was so bad that it flooded and shut down the highway by my house. My worry now was I was not the only one in my area that was going to need a roof fixing and with rain that is forecasted to not stop for the next several days or more, I was not going to get any help anytime soon or until the leak got worse and more expensive to possibly fix.... ***** Well Sam from Academy Roofing was the only one that answered! He said he had several jobs he already had to take care of but he would come by first thing Tuesday morning (today) to take a look. He called early this morning and said he would come by at 0900 hrs. He showed up at 0850 hrs which was right on time and was very professional. He looked at the stain, looked at where it was located in reference to my fireplace and the other parts of my house, asked me a few questions about the timeline of the leak and then headed up on the roof. He came down a short time later after pinpointing exactly where the leak was and advised me it was just a broken tile and he could easily fix it right now. The cost he gave me was very reasonable and waayyyyy less than I was anticipating. I was relieved he could do it right away and not have to come back later due to whatever reason like not having the parts or equipment or not having the time to do it right away. My biggest worry was that I was going to pay an arm and leg to fix the roof since I am sure if he wanted , he could have quoted me anything and make up any reason why and where I had a leak(s) and I would just pay it because I wouldn't be able to know if he was lying and because I knew it was going to start raining again nonstop soon, I would just get it over with. That being said, Sam is very honest, sincere, and fair. I'm usually a pretty good judge of character (law enforcement is my profession) since I deal with bad guys a lot. Even though I only dealt with him for a short time today, I can say with confidence that he is a good guy and does good work. So I give them a call to find out what's going on with the updated estimate, the co-owner tells me he is no longer interested in the job cause he's not gonna make enough money on the project. Not enough money, the audacity. This is not how a good trustworthy business operates. They should of let me know right away if they didn't want to do the job anymore.
