A calm and elegant evening at Mesa Street Grill. My God, I had not been there in ages, and it turned into an absolutely delightful night. Raoul, our server, was attentive, polished, and genuinely pleasant throughout the evening. The kitchen remains one of the very best in El Paso -- frankly far superior to Anson 11, which too often feels overrated and inconsistent. The fresh Ahi Tuna was outstanding. The bone marrow was exquisite in both refinement and flavor, rich and literally melting in my mouth. The Branzino was cooked to perfection. Add a great bottle of Champagne Crystal Roederer Rose with a perfectly balanced French Martini, and the evening became close to flawless. I Mesa Street Grill still knows how to deliver a true dining experience. We will absolutely be back. We made a reservation for our anniversary on a Sunday and it turned into an unforgettable experience. We had the entire restaurant to ourselves which made the night feel incredibly intimate and special. The Christmas decor was a beautiful touch and really added to the atmosphere making the evening feel warm and celebratory. Joey our waiter truly went above and beyond and deserves five stars on his own. He made sure every detail was perfect and helped make our anniversary dinner feel extra special. Our usual saturday spot was closed which is not typical so we came here. Drinks were spectacular! Dante is an amazing experienced bartender. We asked for drinks that were not on their menu and he was pulling masterpiece after masterpiece. We had such a wonderful time. Towards the end, I was feeling hungry so i ordered steak tacos to go. It was awful! Menu stated fresh guacamole and it came with chopped avacado. Ive ordered tacos to go from other places and they did not send the separate ingredients home like this, Im giving them the benefit of the doubt...maybe they though the tacos would get soggy, but why not mention they dont have guacamole. Steak tacos were 17$, with no sides and really rough, but i saw the plates of people eating there, and they looked lovely, so i just wouldn't order anything to go or eat elsewhere and enjoy the drinks here! Believe it or not, this was my first time here. We arrived right at 11:30 am on a Friday and it was empty, which was nice for me. Service was friendly but very slow. We had to flag down the server for our check. We were at lunch so needed to get back to the office right away. The food was disappointing. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and instead of pasta it came with fries!?For a minute, I thought it was from the children's menu. The chicken itself was a bit overcooked and undersauced, but it had a nice crisp. It certainly wasn't worth $19 though. I did like the real tomato slices on top - nice touch. My friend had the salpicon salad but it seemed to just be a dollop of shredded beef on top of lettuce, on top of a tostada. It was literally tasteless. Prices overall were a bit high for the portions and quality. The ambiance was this places' saving grace. Overall, it was nice and a gave an upscale aesthetic. It's a nice place to meet for drinks, if I was a drinker, I suppose. Not sure if I'll come back to this place - defintaley not if I am paying. Glad I finally visited though. read more

Horrible dinner. They have gone from 5 stars in my book to 1 star. The menu changed. No pork chop no chicken parm and no flavor on the shrimp pasta. The one Star is for the martini at least they got that right. I WILL NEVER come back. We had the worst dinner ever. I kept asking did you change the chef ? I was very disappointed with my experience at Mesa Bar and Grill. The food is overpriced for the quality you receive. The rice was undercooked, which made the meal unpleasant and unacceptable. On top of that, the restrooms were dirty and had a strong, unpleasant smell, which raises serious concerns about cleanliness overall. There were holes in the wall! The service was poor, slow, and inattentive, with staff showing little interest. For the prices they charge, I expected much better food quality, cleanliness, and customer service. Unfortunately, this place did not meet even basic standards. I would not recommend it and will not be returning. read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was bad enough to warrant a warning to others. Food allergy protocol was not followed. We explicitly informed our waiter of a food allergy at the start of our meal. Despite this, we experienced a reaction--likely from cross-contamination or ingredient quality issues. While not life-threatening in our case, we'll be dealing with the consequences tonight. If you have food allergies, I cannot recommend eating here. This is a serious safety concern. Beyond the allergy issue, the food quality was poor and portions were notably small for the prices charged. Bottom line: Skip this place, especially if you have any dietary restrictions. read more

Tried their regular dinner and happy hour. It was pretty empty both times. Ordered the Chilean sea bass. Unfortunately it was a bit rubbery likely from it being frozen before. The black bean puree was an odd combo. I think I would have preferred pasta or mashed potatoes or just a side of cooked veggies. As for the happy hour, the $6 margaritas were nice. The ribeye tacos lacked flavor and char though the meat was nicely tender and juicy. The ahi tuna tower was good, no fishiness. The oysters Rockefeller were not authentic. I've had the original from NOLA and although these were tasty, they weren't it. The oysters were tiny too. They lacked the spinach and garlic puree on top. Overall, overpriced for what it's worth, even for happy hour. On average for one person I easily spent $50. They also build in a 4% credit card use surcharge to the menu. read more

Came here to celebrate a birthday. It was always on our to-try list and so we finally found the occasion for it. The service was great from the wait staff. They were attentive, patient, and made great recommendations. That being said, when we arrived, we had previously made reservations for the inside dining area. The hostess took us outside, and when asked if we could sit in the inside dining area, she offered a seat in the bar area. We asked if there was somewhere else to sit, and then she finally took us to the main seating area, that had many open tables. That was very offputting. The food was great. We got the ceviche tower which had a lot of flavor and a soy sauce base. The lobster Mac and cheese was by far my favorite thing we ordered. Or was very creamy and delicious. I got the 14 oz ribeye. It was seasoned well and tasted great. The exterior was a little tough but I think that comes with the way the steak was grilled. My girlfriend got the Chilean sea bass. It had great flavor, and the truffle Parmesan risotto was delicious. We wanted to try to bananas foster for dessert but they didn't have any bananas. This review is for an event my company hosted with two of our partner companies last night. I have not eaten a meal here yet, but am planning to come back and try some samplings from their dinner menu. First - a great big thank you to Michelle Campo their floor manager. Michelle was extremely helpful and instrumental in making our event a success. She helped coordinate everything as I was operating remotely and not familiar with the area or the restaurant. She ensured the back patio was set up they way we needed and even accommodate some last minute changes the day of the event. She helped put together the prefix appetizer and drink menus and even ensured we had mescal old fashions on the menu. Second - a great big thank you to the the wait staff and bartender. Carlos and Elsa did a great job ensuring the drinks and food were flowing and our guests had more than enough of both. They even allowed us to remain in the patio area for an additional hour after our scheduled time. Third - the appetizer selections were spot on and a hit with our guests. We had the cauliflower bites, bacon wrapped, stuffed jalapenos, charcuterie cups, and sliders. My favorite had to be the charcuterie cups because of the ingredients and unique presentation. They included different types of cheeses and prosciutto on top of an arugula salad with grapes and a balsamic reduction. All in all our event was a success, the team at Mesa Street did a fantastic job and we will definitely be booking with them again for our next event. read more

I came here to grab a quick bite to eat for dinner. They have a great happy hour menu with great prices. I believe you have to sit at the bar or the outside patio to take advantage of happy hour. I ordered the avocado crab salad. To me it was doused and thousand Island dressing and it had too much dressing. I also ordered the bacon wrapped Peppers stuffed with cheese. They were delicious. We just had our wedding reception in the patio section of Mesa Street Grill and it was absolutely perfect. We wanted an intimate small reception and Michelle (event coordinator) worked with us every step of the way. We are from out of town and we wanted to celebrate this beautiful day with friends and family in El Paso Tx. Michelle was extremely knowledgeable and knew exactly what my vision was. She and the staff were so Courteous to all our party. I can't say enough great things about our overall experience. Every little detail was spot on and extremely elegant. Highly recommend. My husband and I love coming to this restaurant when we're driving through ElPaso, to Dallas, which is once a month. Mesa Street Grill is probably one of our favorite restaurants!! and we have been coming here for at least 10 years. I'm sure you've seen my other reviews where I have stated that my husband and I eat out every night and I haven't cooked a meal in 30 years thus making me a food connoisseuse. What I love most about Mesa Street is the staff. Always friendly. Next, the food, which the following is what I order, followed by what my husband orders: Me: I love ordering the Caprese salad it's always fresh. Im sure you know how sometimes at other restaurants you get mushy tomatoes well not here. Fresh. And the mozzarella cheese well it is always fresh as well. I ask for blue cheese crumbles which are also fresh, even if it's blue cheese. Next I order the spicy pasta and shrimp dish. I order it regular spicy which is how the chef makes it. It has a bite to it but it's really good and the shrimp are always a good size. I do ask for the shrimp to be cooked more than normal. For dessert. I get the chocolate cake. My husband: He loves ordering the wedge salad first. The lettuce is crisp and they include blue cheese chunks, tomatoes, and walnuts, which make it extra special. So tasty. Next he orders the Delmonico steak, medium well with a baked potato. Sometimes we have to have the steak sent back to be cooked a little bit more but all in all it has good flavor and is usually a good quality steak. For dessert he gets vanilla ice cream with a shot of espresso over the top. It's not on the menu, but the chef will make it for you. AMAZING! The drinks we usually get are a Tanqueray martini and he'll get a Modelo especial. The drinks here are always very good and the beer is cold. Lastly, I forgot to tell you about the green chili casserole. That's a side dish. It's pretty amazing. It's actually a soufflé and it has really good flavor. I mean we usually walk out of here with four to go boxes to take home. I wish I had taken more pictures of our food I forgot , but here is a picture of the wedge salad cut in half because I took half of my husband's salad this time !! One last thing, be careful on the stairs going up and down the front entrance because they are short and steep. They do have a rail to hang onto. One of our favorite restaurants in El Paso. It is a huge restaurant with both an inside and outside seating area. I don't think there are too many places that can beat their lunch menu either. Got the steak and fries for lunch and they were amazing. Steak was perfectly cooked and fries were shoe string. Seasoned to perfection and cooked perfectly. We also got a ceviche tower and half of a charcuterie board for appetizers. My husband said it was one of the best steaks he has had! I tasted it and I agree. Wife and I went to Mesa Street Grill for an early dinner Mar 27. The evening started off well. Our waiter, Joey, suggested ordering from their new Happy Hour Menu, which we did, and the food was very good The service to this point was very good also. However, things went south after that. When we were ready to cash out, Joey was nowhere in sight. After about 5 minutes, I stood and caught his eye in the lower bar area. It took another five minutes for him to bring the "bill". I use quotes because the bill consisted of a two-inch scrap of a cash register tape. The bottom of the tape had obviously been torn off, but I did not think much of it. I gave Joey my credit card and he disappeared. He reappeared a few minutes later with a credit card processing machine. I inserted my credit card, punched the suggested 20% tip amount and hit accept. When I selected the option to receive a printed receipt, Joey stated that I didn't really need one since it would appear on my credit card statement. When I insisted that I wanted a receipt, he reluctantly agreed and said he'd have to retrieve it from the kitchen. Well, he disappeared and never returned. After about ten minutes, I grabbed my scrap of a bill and left. From the time that I flagged Joey to ask for the bill to the time I gave up and left without my requested receipt was nearly a half hour. The next morning, I looked at my bill more closely and noticed that each item was priced higher than what was listed on the menu--by 4%. And the automatic 20% tip that I selected included the tax in the total it calculated the tip on. I called the restaurant to discuss the matter with the general manager. I was told by the shift manager who took my call the 4% discrepancy in the prices is a surcharge for credit card use--which the establishment assumed I would use (the amount was on the bill before I presented my credit card for payment). I also noted to the manager that nowhere on the happy hour menu was there any mention of the 4% upcharge, which I thought was deceptive. She said the General Manager/Owner Aaron would call me to discuss all that transpired. However, I never heard from him. I do not mind paying for what is advertised on the menu, but I resent paying hidden upcharges and paying a tip on taxes in addition to the service. And I resent the waiter's never bringing my receipt. That all seems a little deceptive to me, And I am very disappointed that Aaron could not be bothered returning my call. read more

We went there for my 40th birthday dinner. What a nightmare. A waitress that took a drink order, brought half of them out, and then wanted to take our order. After she took the order, she disappeared, we actually had to go to the bar to get refills, but there she was, flirting with other member of the staff. The food came out, and just my luck, the steak was over cooked. Never once was I given 'I'm sorry' or anything like that, nope. The second steak was brought out, and once again, overcooked. The manager, who looks like way to old and gross to be a manager or anything, stood there, just said he would take it off. I asked him if he understood he ruined my night, its my bday. He stood there. Never once apologized, just took the steak off the bill. Mind you, my asparagus was cold, and I didn't touch my lobster mac and cheese, but he still charged me for that. All this time we sitting here, looking other tables where the wait staff went 16 times to the one table to check on them. She came to the table a total of 7 times. 7. One of my friends pointed out, we were the only white people inside the restaurant, which is cool. I see why we were getting the service we were getting. Stay away people. If you're looking for a genuine experience with casual fine dining, I'm here to tell ya Mesa Street Grill is the place to go. They thoroughly understand the concept of fine dining meals served in a casual-esque setting. My review today will be covering two experiences: lunch and dinner. You see, this place has separate, unique menus for both. Whilst the lunch menu is slightly more rustic than their dinner menu, it still has a fine dining touch to it. Case in point: the lobster mac n' cheese is featured on both menus (though I have yet to try this dish). The ambiance and decorum are quite unique. There's a full bar which is located on the casual dining side of the house. Beyond that, there is a patio which we were originally gonna sit in. But after hearing how noisy it was out there, we opted for the fine dining room for dinner. But before I talk about dinner, we must discuss lunch real quick. Because the two are almost like night and day. I ordered the cheese steak for lunch just because the description of the sandwich caught my fancy and nobody had taken a picture of it yet. It was alright, but not really what I was expecting. The steak could have used more seasoning and I'm fairly certain it was served on something that resembled wheat bread. An odd choice but....to each their own. It was edible. The highlight for me, however, were the house chips. These chips are legit made fresh in house! I was very impressed. They even taste good in ketchup, if that's your fancy. After sampling the lunch, I just had to try out their dinner for date night. Like most dinners we enjoy, there are highs and lows. That said, we'll start with appetizers. From the picture I took, you'll notice their Caesar salad is...not like the typical salads you might see. It almost looks like you could eat the entire thing with your hands. They serve the dressing on the side with four or five stalks of uncut lettuce. What makes a good salad depends on how you dress it. So this one's a mixed bag for me. It wasn't bad, except for the fact that the Caesar dressing was a bit bland for me. It tasted slightly better with some cheese sprinkled on top. There's also apparently anchovies available upon request, but...I have no idea if it would have made any difference in the dressing. When my wife got the steak soup, I had to sample some. OMG!! This soup is fantastic! If you stop by this place and don't order the steak soup, you are out of your freaking minds!! Trust me: this is probably one of the greatest soups I've ever tasted! We're talking like...top 5, easy! Be sure to dip the bread in it, too. Main entrees of the night: surf n' turf for me and the wife got the rack of lamb. Once again, I sampled hers because I wanted to see how the lamb was overall. Every restaurant prepares their lamb differently and this one comes in a (I wanna say cranberry-ish) sauce which...is honestly an acquired taste. Still, it blended well and the lamb was tender and juicy. I liked it. As for my dish, the presentation was stellar! What surprised me the most was the size of the lobster tail. Normally, places in Texas that feature surf n' turf seem to serve up these embarrassingly tiny lobster tails. Not Mesa Street Grill though. They *said* it was 6oz, but that sucker looked more like 7 or maybe 8. Hey, I ain't complaining! The filet was...pretty good. I only wish I had ordered it medium instead of mid-well. Because I assumed it would be one of those extra thick cuts. This one was flatter. So whilst the steak ended up being slightly drier than I prefer, it was still well seasoned and delectable overall. So if you like your steak juicy, just get it medium. The best thing Mesa Street has going for them is the service; especially on the fine dining side. You will be treated like royalty if you dine in on that side. Trust me when I say...I walked out of that place feeling like a gladiator most decorated. Lunch service was a lot less episodic, however. It was almost as if the waiter was stoic and emotionless like wallpaper. Since it was just a quick lunch, I didn't really care either way. It's just worth mentioning, in case you're trying to decide where to sit. So we get to add another go-to hotspot on our roster for places to eat on date night.
