Went here solely because our friend that we were visiting in Santa Barbara said the reviews were promising. She had never been, so we brought her with us to blame her if it sucked. Honestly, one of the very best meatball sandwiches I have ever had. Probably my second favorite of all time. I'm fat and I know what I am talking about when I say it was beyond delicious. My wife said that her veggie sandwich was wonderful and our son devoured his cheese pizza slices. He's 4 years old and is VERY picky about his food. That ought to tell you something. My family and I were up in Santa Barbara for my daughters graduation from UCSB. A few people said "we had to try" Mesa Pizza Co. We were very pleased. Service and food were both great. We had the white chicken pizza, it was amazing. We also ate a ton of breadsticks with their homemade ranch. All delicious. Pros: fresh ingredients great crust. Cons: Some ingredients like the sausage was well done which indicated pre cooked. The onions were chunky and not cooked, green peppers were chunky and not cooked. Suggestions: slice the onions and green peppers thin and saute the onions and peppers so they are cooked. The flavor of an Italian pizza comes from all vegetables / cheeses and sauce being caramelized together during the cooking process so the flavors are married into a delicious array of pristine flavors that dance together. There is nothing worse than a good crust good sauce and undercooked green peppers and onions, those two ingredients are not garnishes. Sorry for being picky but I'm an Italian from the East Coast and I'm also a professional chef. I know you can do better. read more

Great customer service and awesome food! Boyfriend wanted pizza which he loved (medium regular crust pepperoni) and I always need to find a gluten free option and this place just hit the spot! Probably one of the best gluten free pizza's I've had. Their sauce is delicious. Wings have a great little kick, individual salad was just so simple and great. They use pretty good ingredients and pizzas are fresh, if you don't think it's that good go try the Dominoes or Giovanni's right next door for some frozen pizzas to compare. The owners are really receptive to customer feedback as well, they changed the dough consistency on request for more crispiness and they are really friendly when they are there. Aside from the pizza, everything else is about average. Good sauce, dough and fresh ingredients is what makes their pizza stand out. My first time there the other day. Ordered a turkey sub with added onions. Loved that it was warm. Although rather tasteless. Could hardly taste the onions as there were few. Needed some seasoning and perhaps a bit more Italian dressing and Mayo. A good sandwich is often in the ratio of the ingredients. The clincher for me was the lettuce which was iceberg which was light green, almost white, with brown spots (not fresh). Iceberg is a most ordinary lettuce. Prefer one that is darker green like romaine, etc. Or at least lettuce that's fresh without brown spots. Disappointed...Not sure if I'll return. read more

If I could give this zero stars I would. My husband will pretty much eat anything and he could only eat one slice. Weird taste to the sauce, burnt the crust. The delivery was 45 minutes late. I've been vegetarian for decades and thought I had eaten every version of "veggie pizza". Was in SB for a few days and scrolling through places to order from, I saw BBQ Broccoli on the menu at Mesa Pizza, so of course I had to try it! Wasn't sure what to expect - would the broccoli be finely diced and mixed in? Large chunks placed over the top? Too mushy? Too firm? None of the above! They must have used the same method that is used for bbq chicken pizzas because it had a similar look. Perfectly sized pieces cooked right into the tangy sweet sauce, yum! The crust (I got the original or standard, forget what it was called) was also the right thickness, not too doughy and not too crispy. To update following the very strange post that the owner issued in reply to me: The owner focuses on the axxes deal, and yet in doing so backs up the problem: the deal is for 50% off your first pizza, yet the store doesn't honor that offer. He indicates that it clearly states cheese pizza, but that's just not the case. The Axxess book does not say that, period. It's crazy that he's responding by insulting the literacy of his customers. I'm not a customer is always right kind of person, but when the customer has something in writing then the merchant might want to rethink the attitude. I've included a shot of the ad in question. As to my need to bash the product, my initial review said that I found the food to me mediocre. That's the truth of if, and I acknowledge that there are worse pizzas. I'm sorry that the owner wants to focus on my review as not affirming the mediocre pizza as being some kind of character flaw. Other people seem to like this pizza so, as always, your milage may vary. Then again, other people like IHOP and McDonalds. I'm just very picky, I admit that. This review is for others who are picky and who expect a merchant to honor their advertising (at least within reason). Original Review: Ok, so I'll start with saying that the pizza wasn't great. If I was going to compare the crust to some other local place, I'd say it is most like Domino's. Which is to say, not the worst, but definitely bottom 1/3. The toppings were ok, but they seemed to come a long way of being close to the outside edge. I don't mean to sound picky, but I like the stuff on top, and if the last 2 inches are just bread... well, it kind of feels like a cost cutting measure. To that I'd normally say they should just charge a little more and not skimp, but $30 for a pizza? Seriously, if it were gourmet then maybe... but not for Domino's level. Finally, they also don't stand by their Axxess coupon. It's supposed to be for 50% of your first pizza. That is what is written, but when you come into the store they point to a sign saying it's only for the cheese pizza. Seriously, if can't put out an add through a vendor and then change your mind after a customer has placed an order and then driven over to pick it up. That last part is totally unethical to me, the part that brings this from 2.5 stars to 1. Seems like this place doesn't do well based on their product so they are trying to cut corners elsewhere. read more

I am a frequent customer at Mesa pizza.This passed weekend I had the worst experience of all my visits to Mesa pizza. The employee wasn't wearing gloves while handling the pizza. I didn't even want to eat my pizza due to toppings falling off onto the counter and reapplied with the employees bare hands. I pointed out that I was uncomfortable with it and he laughed in my face. I sadly will not be returning to Mesa Pizza. Ps i spoke to owner and he told me that they have a sanitizing bleached cloth they use to wash their hands after dealing with the register. I thought that was insane and unhealthy. How am I suppose to use my pizza after an employee has washed his hands on a "bleached" cloth. read more
