Went to Mesa for the first time on Saturday and I was blown away. I met a friend who had recommend Mesa and I was not disappointed. We started with Calamari appetizer and the cucumber mezcal drink which had been recommended by our server Jordan. The steak and Salmon dish were perfectly cooked and flavorful. The ambiance and service were admirable. Our server kept checking up on us, and the Manager Joe was very passionate about the restaurant, share with us other recommendations for drinks which we ended up ordering the lychee martini. Joe stopped by different tables to check on the service and ensure everything was to the expectation. The ambiance, customer service and Joe made the experience very personable that it made us feel welcomed and my first experience there was beyond any other restaurant service I've had. I will be coming back and recommend this place to friends and family. Can't wait to celebrate my birthday here! Congratulations to the Cheff, staff and Joe. These guys can never get their dress code right..I came there today 12/18 and was told I needed to hang my hat...I messaged them last month regarding hats and they keep flip flopping..yes hats, no hats, yes hats... Location-located in Orange County in Costa Mesa at the Camp. Parking is tight so I recommend either valet or park on the neighboring street. We had no problem with street parking at 745 pm on a Saturday. Venue: Absolutely beautiful. Love the outdoor feel but indoors. The tree leaf walls and the tree in the middle is a classy cute touch. Definitely limited on seating so make a reservation by all means. They do flip the tables every two hours so don't expect to stay all night at a table. The food is decent but nothing to write home about. I enjoyed the grilled chix sandwich (18) with sweet potato fries. I just honestly have to ding on the cocktail list. Great cocktails but they are filled with so much ice you are literally getting three sips and your done. So for $14 a drink I felt I was being ripped off. However, I realized the hustle and ordered glasses of rose. No ice and just wine, yass! Otherwise, venue turns into a lounge/club around 9:45. Goes from intimate date night feel to full on party mode. We stayed until midnight and the dj was great. Once I'm in club mode I go for the long islands and do have to say I'm surprised only $12.93 and got your girl feeling right! Dj on a Saturday is mostly hip hop and the crowd is late twenties to mid thirties. Definitely OC crowd if you know what I mean. When we were leaving there was a rather long line to get in so I recommend coming early. I heard they also charge a cover. I just recommend going early and grabbing dinner then staying for the club! I enjoy going to this place and the vibe is amazing. I know people who work here and I have nothing negative towards this restaurant. I am leaving this review to let people be aware that I was robbed at gun point in the parking lot at 9pm 10-15-2022. 3 black men jumped out in a black Audi with tinted windows. They are scouting and looking for easy targets. If you come here, please valet, Uber or walk in a group. I don't think these guys will come back again but just to be safe, if you see any car just driving around or people that "don't belong there" just get the heck in the restaurant. This is just to save you from losing your valuables and possibly your life. And after what seemed like ages the waitress came around we placed our order very politely... charcuterie board and some sliders... not crazy right? We finally got our order after 45 mins... the charcuterie board had wilted leaves sprinkled all over it.. and some rubbery ass meat? Or plastic? I don't even know.. so I said I'm sorry I'm scared to eat this... it looks nasty.. and I can't afford to be sick. We celebrated our good friends belated birthday and had dinner there, joe G the GM was beyond accommodating and made the night one of the best, the food, the drinks and atmosphere was awesome and our host and waitress Kelsie was superb in delivering everything quickly and enjoyable. Mesa has been around a while but I hadn't been in years before last night. My friend and I had an 8:30 reservation for dinner on Friday. Got there and they quickly seated us. Great ambiance but definitely not for a first date or catching up with friends as the music is quite loud (probably only later on weekends nights). Got a gin martini with a twist which was good and then the steak and frites to eat which was really great. Only complaint is my friend asked for an espresso martini and it came out looking... like something else. So we sent it back and our server took it off the bill (the service was good too btw). I feel for them since they're trying to speak louder than the blaring music but it felt rushed and like they were yelling at us. Which I know wasn't their intention but was difficult to understand. And the influencers. Holy moly. This establishment seems to only really on aesthetic since people don't come for the food. But the vibes that this establishment was presenting are influencers with terrible attitudes. People raising their voices and encroaching on our spot at the communal bar. A woman walking up and down the red lit main dining area 5 times because she didn't get the take right. And lemme tell you. She couldn't walk in heels. And then on our way out she and the woman filming her were blocking the entrance by watching the videos and taking more selfies. Finally. They put a red filter on all media they were sharing - which were snippets of Beyoncé music videos and then the Black Swan cut together in the strangest edits. Good food, mixed service. Mesa is a restaurant that doubles as a sort of club/lounge. It's the kind of place that tries to have its cake and eat it too: it tries to do high-end dining on top of a club/lounge. That's an admirable goal, and no doubt fairly hard to manage. Don't expect a cheap meal. The dishes themselves ranged the gamut: Great: Brussels, Spicy Lumpia, Ribeye Meh: Burrata Pizza, Bone Marrow Not Worth It: Broccolini, Skillet Mussels Our original hosts were good, but then we were "gently" pushed to hurry up to make space for later bottle service. While I understand getting booths open for new customers is important, shoving a bunch of glasses on our table wasn't particularly appreciated. Also, this is definitely not a business dinner sort of place. The club clientele and clothing of the servers may offend more delicate sensibilities. read more

I've disliked this place for years but my friends always find a reason to come here. I won some gift certificates for Mesa and a friend invited me out for birthday drinks, so I reluctantly went. I ordered a Gold Rush but had to tell the bartender what was in it. We had reservations and were seated 15 minutes post-reservation time. We ordered a few items to eat: Brussels sprouts with chorizo, short rib with gnocchi, and pork belly appetizer on rice cakes. Everything was delicious. Our table also ordered a few more drinks as well. We asked for some bread to mop up the luscious cream sauce that accompanied the short rib. It took us a while to get the bread but it was well worth the wait. A friend mentioned we were celebrating a birthday, so they brought me a mousse dessert with a sparkler. It was the most dramatic birthday presentation I've seen to date. Our server was friendly and attentive but we were reminded that we had a 2 hour limit on our table unless we wanted bottle service. Went there last nite and made a dinner reservation for friends and then get a call a few hours later cancelling our reservation at 9:30 over the phone due to a party event. We get there and apparently one of my friends knew the server and then we get the table for dinner , like really wtf. Then we pay for the table and our server Jay already puts in her tip amount at 22% without even giving me a chance to change it . 2 strikes ! Strike 3- the crowd , I've been here pre Covid and this was a nice place with a dress code - not anymore , people coming in with baseball caps , shorts , nfl jerseys walking in with cigarettes and blunts as they walk into the lounge . Came on Saturday evening, and although reservations is highly recommended, the hostess was able to seat us within 10 minutes (we sat at the "table" around the huge tree in the middle of the restaurant). When we arrived around 9pm-ish, it was still pretty much people having dinner, and the DJ was playing some tunes. We came here for drinks, appetizers and to listen to music/dance. 11p is when the DJ began playing hip-hop (I don't know if it was a 'Drake' night, but the DJ was bumping a whole lotta Drake lol. Not a problem at all because I fuxx with Drake. HAHA!) By this time, the place was jam packed- folks in the reserved sections with bottle service, those standing around sipping and mingling, not an empty spot on the same 'dance floor' and every table occupied. Really liked the ambiance of the place. It's great for a happy hour or a place to have some drinks with friends. The place is not super big, so if you have a big party, might be difficult to host an event here. Parking is not the best. You can attempt to find a spot within the small lot, park in neighboring areas or pay for valet. Food was good - the fried olives stood out to me the most. Would not have thought fried olives was a thing or even good, but it was delicious. Probably could've ordered another round, but decided to order other items on the menu. I really enjoy Mesa as a lounge for a slightly more upscale night out with friends. Yes people go here to be seen, the crowd can be pretentious, and the hip congregate here, but sometimes that is just what I am in the mood for. Girls dress nice in dresses and heels, even on a Thursday. Thursday-Saturday there is a cover charge of $10 after 10pm. Since Mesa is located at The Camp, parking can be difficult. They offer valet parking for a fee or you can drive around the lot and hope to find a space. The ambiance is dark and not very spacious. It is richly decorated in deep colors and wood. If I am remembering correctly there are some small trees inside. The roof partially opens up but I am not sure when that takes place. Thursday-Saturday nights there is a dj or live music. When I came on a Thursday, the resident dj was spinning some groovy house music that I really enjoyed. Around 11pm some people started dancing in the small dance floor in front of the dj. Mesa is very pricey. The cheapest pint of beer is $9 and beer and cocktails go up from there. I ordered 2 of their craft cocktails. They were sweet, fruity, and delicious. The price was about $12 each. They offer a whiskey menu with many choices, and about 20 various wines. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about whiskeys. She knew exactly how each type had to be made. I was impressed! She was also very friendly, and attentive at the right times. I can't remember her name but she has bangs, long brown hair, and thick black glasses. Small Plates and a Late Night Menu are offered. As of now I have only tried the Flash Fried Calamari. It was tasty but for the price it didn't blow me away and I wish the portion was larger. They served fried onions with it as a filler so you don't notice you get less calamari. Nonetheless I would like to come back and try something else such as the pizza. As I noted earlier, this is a good spot for a classy girls-night or a date spot for a small plate and a few drinks. 3.5?! Pshhh... I loved this place. After getting a taste at a Yelp Event earlier in the evening we decided to roll in for some late night bites! First: The vibe. From the outside it looks like a big concrete block but once inside you'll see that it's wide open and vibey as f#ck. There are TVs in all of the booths playing strange, grainy, black and white dancing movies with no sound. I had no idea what I was watching but it served as some nice ambient light at the table. The band playing on Wednesday... rad. Apparently they play under the big tree every week and did a great job of setting the mood. Second: The food. We decided to share since we had a group of six. No entrees at this table but rather a bunch of plates to share. Fried olives? Hell yeah! They were my favorite with the beet salad coming in a close second and the pizzas (though small) also scoring high. The cheese platter was stunning but wasn't a standout - good none the less. Oh yeah, that calamari wasn't too shabby either! Third: The service. We loved our server! We loved her so much that I can't remember her name. In the middle of our bar hopping, we came to this spot in Costa Mesa. We drove in from the street, and I could immediately tell that this place was pretty good. Great sights with a classy feel. The line took about 10 minutes, since they were at capacity when we got there. Once in, we paid the cover, and to the bar we went. I ordered my standard redbull and vodka, and my buddy got a heff. My redbull/vodka was pretty good, and very strong. The ambient is nice, but seating is scarce unless you dine there as well. There is seating along the bar, but that gets taken up fast. The place gets pretty crowded, but navigation around the place is not impossible. The restrooms are interesting. They have eight stalls, each with a toilet and its own sink. Hence the area is co-ed, which sucks for my buddies and I because the line is inevitably longer. I will return here, as I saw a bit of what I liked. read more

I was there yesterday. I ordered the chicken. The chicken was a little dry to be very honest. I wished they put more sauce on the chicken to make it not so dry. The risotto was not my favorite. And the menu was way too small. BUT the worst part was that I was trying to walk around and try to find someone to talk to. I kept moving around and lingering in some areas to see where the person was. When I was trying to find someone to talk to, they thought I was making people uncomfortable. They called me over to talk to me and told me what they saw and they never allowed me to compromise and tell them my side of the story. They told me to leave afterwards. I tried to explain and confront them about this situation. They told me that if I did not leave they would call the cops. This was almost a tense thing I had to deal with. Maybe there was a miscommunication or misunderstanding or something. Under no circumstance was I trying to make anyone uncomfortable. I did not want to stay in one area. The place was dark and packed with a lot of people so I tried to move around as much as I can. I did not like to stay in one place for an extended period of time. The good thing is that I do not live anywhere near that area. The service needs a lot of training and work when it comes to this. They need to get their acts together before they do this on someone else. I have been to a lot of bars before and have never had issues like this. Hopefully I am not the only person who has had to deal with this at Mesa. I am sure that there have been a lot of people who have had to deal with this issue before. If you have dealt with this before, I feel really bad for you. They call it Mesa. It is a Mess of a place because of that. You do one thing and the next thing that happens is that people think it is suspicious when it is not. If these people cannot get their acts together then they have no reason to run this business. I am very disappointed and pissed the fuck off at those people. I drove 40ish minutes to a restaurant and this is what I get? Like seriously!! What the fuck is going on here? I have no idea. I have a lot of respect for a lot of people that I see. But in this case, I have lost a lot of respect for the owners and the staff in how they managed and took care of this incident. I did not drink. So that had nothing to do with that. At the end of the day I was just there to eat dinner and make friends. These behaviors were severely misinterpreted by a lot of staff. I was able to have to pleasure of visiting Mesa on my birthday a few weeks ago. I was visiting from out of town and was very impressed with Mesa as a whole. The drinks were strong and tasty, the food was great and the atmosphere set the mood perfectly. The staff was super nice and accommodating. We didn't have a reservation but we're able to get us seated near the bar as soon as they found out they had a canceled table they sat us down and took care of us. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a fun lively atmosphere with great food and drinks. Will definitely be back next time I'm in town! read more

Came here after the Auto Show with a bunch of peeps from www.honk.com. This is one of those places I've had on my list to try but never got around to. The restaurant itself is quite trendy, includes a bar and lounge area as well as restaurant seating. We enjoyed a drink at the bar prior to being seated at the table. Fire pits are lit up between some of the tables -- a very nice touch. The menu isn't as exciting as I would've liked -- the choices aren't all that exciting, but there are items for everyone from meats to pizzas to burgers. I opted for the lamb and we shared some appetizers to start. We had 3 appetizers, the sashimi on rice cake had a strange sweetness to it -- not what I had expected really, had thought it would have a ponzu-style sauce. Fried calamari was okay, served with 3 types of dipping sauces -- a marinara style, an aioli style and a Thai sweet sauce. Finally, there was Artisanal Charcuterie, a plate of cured meats -- only there were 2 types -- I had expected it to be a little fancier than that as the menu states 'chef's choice of cured meats' -- oh well. I wasn't overly impressed with the appetizers and from what I saw when the others' main courses arrived, I think I was a tad worried about my lamb. Luckily, my lamb was very flavorful served atop a bed of bulgur wheat. I tried the prime tenderloin steak and also the hangar steak -- both were burnt on the outside! The Mesa Burger also looked mighty charred. Everything looked black! Definitely not acceptable for a restaurant of this caliber. I don't think I'd return for dinner but for drinks this place seems like it would be nice to hang for a few hours to relax and then move on to somewhere else for dinner.
