Honestly this place deserves a 4, hell maybe even a 5! The food was something to die for, worth every penny, but the reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the service found at this establishment was something you'd see from McDonald's cashiers. Our waitress took our order and literally disappeared for the rest of the night. Our water wasn't even filled once during our dinner, it wasn't until we received our check did our water finally got refilled. And what really pushed this review was the waitress assumed that what I paid in cash was automatically tip, I understand the confusion but i should still get the chance to make that decision without it being made for me. Mesa has had quite a buzz in OC for several years now, but I recently began frequenting it this past year or so for the djs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tuesday is more laid back with the ambience of old school hip hop, R&B and Neo soul-ish tunes (djs Fluent 1 + Tea Long) while Wet Hand Dan brings more upbeat electronic dance music on Thursdays. This place does tend to draw some pretentious and douchee people, which I really don't care for. But I can manage to tune them out. I've been lucky to get a table in the bar area easily by getting there around 8. The service has been consistently good, friendly, and attentive. I've ordered mostly from the appetizer section and have been happy with just about every item I've ordered! The highlights that really stood out to me, though, were the Bone Marrow, Marinated Shrimp, Ahí Tuna Tacos, and Pork Belly. The only pizza I tried, The Bee Sting, was simple, yet so delicious with that added touch of honey! I'd like to try more in my next visit. Their signature cocktails tend to be on the sweet side and pricey for the small amount you get. Nonetheless, my favorites are The Clash- nice, spicy kick, Me Gustas Tu- smoky mezcal but goes down easily with the Amaro Montenegro and pineapple gomme, and can't go wrong with the good Ol' Fashioned. They do have a decent selection of whiskeys, Scotch, wine and beer as well. We came here for restaurant week and didn't know what to expect. The food was great and our server Cristina was awesome! We got the meatballs, fried olives and calamari. All were delish! We all got the short rib for dinner and it was so good! It does turn into a club in the later hours so beware but we came at 6pm and it was a fun atmosphere! read more

Listen I don't like putting bad reviews about anyone ... EVER ...... but my experience this pass week was horrible... The host who was working was so rude to me and my guests... wish I remembered her name it started with a "J" I think !! As a business owner I would me mortified at the level of customer service and conflict resolution this girl had ... she was tall brunette is all I remember.... What was funny was after we sat down one of my guests said that the same girl on New Years was very rude with other people she was with that night. So for the manager. I know staffing is hard and people can be jerks to staff and that our tolerance can be lower nowadays ... but for there to be two separate groups of people at two different times said the same thing about your Hostess I would probably assume that it's definitely happening more than you know Sorry again for the two stars ... love Mesa but customer service is important and this girl needs to go read more

I have been to this delightful restaurant twice in the past two weeks. The dishes were beautiful, and every bite was heavenly. I was there for the chefs special set menu and I had the braised short and it is honestly the best tasting dish I have ever had. The complexity of the flavor profile was impeccable! I paired it with the Brussels and the cauliflower. The greens were so crisp and vibrant, as if they were pulled from a Cezanne painting and plated. Chef Jonathan actually came out and greeted us and really made us feel at home. Will definitely come back with this new chef changing the new nightlife and dinner experience. read more

Took my girl here for Valentine's Day, and had a way better time than I expected. The menu was small but the food was great (I got the braised short rib and it was fire). They also had cool little jazz band there playing live music and setting the romantic valentines vibes which was very nice - It would be nice to see Mesa do a live jazz night or something like that once a week, I feel like Costa Mesa needs something like that in its "night life" scene. Food was top notch, DJ was awesome, and GM Joe was excellent. Our table had the mediterranean platter (hummus was amazing), mushroom pizza, tuna appetizer, filet mignon, caesar salad, and slow braised beef short rib. Everything was soooo good. Came here this past Saturday and I got harassed by one of the security here. I am currently waiting for management to contact me but it's completely unacceptable. I feel like most security guards will let just about anything slide as long as you pay them ca$h and it's complete BS. I do like Mesa for their food and ambiance but they need to talk/re-train their staff on professionalism and orderly conduct. It's quite appalling considering the good location. Mesa was really cute and trendy! I came here with my crew (sisters&bestie) to celebrate my birthday this past weekend and we all enjoyed our time. We made reservations ahead of time so that definitely helps having to wait for a table. Food and drinks were delish! We had their mussels, kim chi fries, mushroom pizza, chilaquiles, and the salmon. No complaints on any of the dishes. The manager that night was great and even bought us a round of drinks...thank you again! :) Tip: to avoid driving around in circles trying to find the place, they're located in The CAMP on Baker next to the gas station! This place has such potential because of the location and decor. However, whoever owns this establishment must not care very much about how long they stay in business. Everyone who works here is beyond rude. It seems like it's a requirement to work here honestly. The hostess was cold and rude. Our server approached us with an attitude, and it just kept getting worse. It's amazing to me how you could have a table who might drop a significant amount of money and give you a crazy tip, but you just don't put in any effort to do your job or smile. I've never felt so uncomfortable around a server before. At some point, a different server came up to us to deliver our food and I asked her if we could put in a drink order with her. She also had a severe attitude situation going on, and made a backwards comment toward my girlfriend who ordered a mocktail. This entire experience, my group was polite and patient. I don't understand how people here keep their job. Again, it must be due to the lack of concern on management/owner's end. Side note, they obviously hired a new chef because the food went downhill. Only thing good was the music. The food is over priced. We got a charcuterie board and it only comes with meats and no cheeses, or vice versa. You have to buy both for $60 to get a mix. Bathroom lines are super long and the bouncers let everyone cut if you give them tip money, so basically you now have to wait a double line if don't want to tip. Paying already $500 for a table is not worth it if you can't even use the bathroom. read more

Only thing that really stood out were the truffle fries. The drinks however, were amazing! I was really hoping to try the Lavender cocktail but was told they were all out. Will definitely have to come back to try that! My second go-to was the Forbidden Fruit which quickly became my drink of the night because it was yummy! The crowd is definitely more upscale and professional. Wasn't crazy crowded where you couldn't move about which was a big plus! There was a line outside for entry as it got later into the night. This review is long overdue. I've been coming to Mesa for years now because it is one of the best spots to go out in Orange County. Not only is the food great for dinner but the ambiance is perfect for a night out with friends also. Chef Jonathan is amazing at what he does and his hard work and passion is reflected in his menu. We had the hamachi which was so fresh and tasty. The mussels are a must have when coming here. Whether you get the burger or steak, the meat is so flavorful and melts in your mouth! I came in thinking it was more of a loungey vibe but instead it felt more like a club than anything else. They had a live DJ playing a selection of great music. We came to lounge and drink, but the the place was way over capacity and thus made it hard to even get a drink. I do understand that it seemed like the bar was understaffed, only 2 people were serving drinks for a hand full of customers waiting around the bar. They have security in the front so it feels safe. I like the bathroom scene because they have a friendly butler who helps make sure the spot is clean before you use it. This was so good, we ordered 2 more of these. 2) Any of the pizzas: we tried the Bee Sting and the Spinach and tomatoe. Nice sized pizza that you could get 6 big slices from. 3) Old Fashioned and the sangrias. Can't go wrong We also tried the following but weren't too impressed: Mussels, halibut and chips, steak frites. Parking is a bit tough because it shares a parking lot with the camp. Last time we ordered : Charcuterie Broad ( 3/5 ) - it's good but too little and it looks like a leftover when they bring out. Brussel Leave ( 4/5 ) - tastes great but too oily in my opinion. Salmon ( 4/5 ) - i like it. The salmon cooked perfectly. The green pea were tasty and buttery. But the dish was cold and the Salmon skin wasn't crispy. Drinks are always good!
